Had frozen shoulder and still working the external rotation/mobility. It was SO painful!!! The muscles were so angry all around it and I couldn’t do anything until those settled down. On year 3 1/2 still recovering. I pray to God I don’t get it in my other shoulder. I’m very active and it really affected my quality of life

You guys have helped me so much with my current shoulder problem (impingement) in my right shoulder...I think what I learned from you guys have helped more (or definitely added) to all the visits to my PT’s here. I also had frozen shoulder a few years ago in my left shoulder. Took 2 shots 10 PT visits and a MRI before I found relief...I really wish I would have found you sooner. BTW, I purchased your wall anchors and also the bodylastic bands. I use them everyday. I recently showed my husband your video on tennis elbow, he currently has that. I’m sure he will find relief. Thanks so much!

I had impingement until I was able to free up a bit more muscle and ROM away from the common impingement locations. I was then able to train without impingement. I think the major one that helped was the behind the back stretch and subscapularis infraspinatus stretches

I was diagnosed with frozen shoulder (right) about 2 years ago.It was a long year of pt, massage treatments, and home stretch/strength routines before I finally seemed to regain really good movement and minimal pain. Then, about a year later brings me to the present with over 6 weeks of right shoulder, upper arm, and neck pain. Doc took 4 X-ray views which showed only mild arthritis. He prescribed 5 days of prednisone since the pain especially at night and mornings just wore me down. I'm getting deep massage treatments once a week and doing ice, heat, tylenol, mild stretches....and just recently starting a bit of band work 2-3 days a week. I'm an over achiever, so I really am pacing myself to not regress. The prednisone really was a tremendous help to break the very bad pain cycle. So here I am. Thank you Brad and Bob for addressing this.

Thanks, Bob & Brad. I took my body for granted over the years, doing exercises that were way too vigorous and injuring myself too often. The worst was in 2013 when I tore a knee ligament and couldn't walk properly for months. My mistake was not researching before starting a new exercise. Now I am older and wiser ... and I'm following experts like Bob & Brad! My goal is to age gracefully by being smart about what I eat and how I exercise. But first I must do something about the shoulder pain that's been bothering me for months! ;)

Perfect description of my shoulder. Clearly, it is my body's natural reaction to prevent further injury by reinforcing and the limiting shoulder movement. Thanks Bob and Brad for your super description that exactly matched every detail of my ailment! Since I'm not a doctor, I don't have to agree with the health care industry's coercion to always see a doctor for everything. Most ailment and injuries heal themselves if given proper natural treatment.

Had it in my left shoulder, very limited in my movements, but was able to go through all of the motions that are described/shown in this video, but it was extremely painful. Had to get a steroid shot through a radiology department to make it loose and follow up with PT. I now have it in my right shoulder and the night pain is much worse than the left shoulder but it is the exact same pain. Had it in my left shoulder when I was about 48 and am now soon to be 51. Have not be diagnosed with diabetes, but recent blood tests show higher than normal glucose levels (at 9 counts higher than the high end of the spectrum).

I was diagnosed with a frozen shoulder this week. Both Shoulders are affected, one much less than the other, and the interesting point is that I'm pretty sure I know what started it off: I bought a new mattress about four months ago, and it was just too hard. I'd be interested to know if too-firm mattresses have led to frozen shoulder in other people too.
The mattress has gone but the pain remains!

I’ve been doing the exercises and my whole shoulder cuff will be so sore after 30 minutes of exercise. Maybe one day I’ll be able to do a handstand again 😭😭😭

I'm 36 and have just been diagnosed with frozen shoulder of my right arm. Question; the pain isn't so much in the shoulder itself but between my armpit and breast, forearm, shoulder blade and pins and needles in my hand. Is this all related to the frozen shoulder? I also have the early stages of Osteoarthritis.

Just to let you both know, you are both right once again. Also kudos to both of you and your videos. I love how you both play off each other’s comments so well. You both have great energy and are so kind to pass on what you know. So I recently saw my Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in the shoulder, arm and hands. He is quite adept at what he does. He basically told me that as a Type 1 Diabetic I have developed a Frozen Shoulder. The options, wait it out - which can take up to 3 years- get a steroid shot (which sends me to the ER and then the ICU due to the steroids making my blood sugars go through the roof even with MORE insulin) - or 12 weeks of painful physical therapy. I simply went home and had a good boo-hoo 😢. It has been another couple of months and I am going back for the steroid injections as I am not sleeping well and when I do I am having nightmares. I ended up with becoming a Type 1 Diabetic after a car accident - it is rather rare they say, 1 out of 100,000. But please let your patients who may be in need of narcotics or have been in a nearly fatal car accident to get their blood checked and a urinalysis each month. I knew we had “missed something” as my muscles had wasted away and I did not feel right in any way. So we need to be our own advocates and ask for these tests, your pancreas just may thank you and get the help it needs to heal. Thus, no diabetes to live with as a Type 1 with many complications!! I was too out of it to think to ask for these two simple tests, blood work and/or urinalysis. Just sharing the information so if you or anyone you love is in this situation do the simplest of things and get these two tests done. That’s all I got. Keep up the great work!!

had a frozen left shoulder a couple years back, as a result from a bursitis, had it for 4 years ... worst pain i ever had, still don't have full range of motion back, probably never will
couple weeks ago i had a bursitis in my right shoulder and you guessed it, it's in the freezing stage now
those tests i cannot perform without pain which wont go away untill i take meds, taking 1200 mg of ibuprofen takes away about 80% pain

I believe i developed frozen shoulder after a bad dislocation, then i had surgery for the dislocation and still have a frozen shoulder. My physical therapist and doctor were saying I should be able to move more by now (7 weeks after surgery) but I can only raise my arm to about 110 degrees even after doing daily physical therapy. Move my arm sideways woth elbow stuck to my side i get a little bit past 90 (normal) and it stops.
I told my Physical therapist its a frozen shoulder but she doesnt want to say it is. Maybe thinking it would discourage me? I dont know. Itll be discouraging not seeing progress and it not being frozen.

Sorry that you are suffering. Have been there. I know that medical professionals frown on this, but have you tried sleeping in a recliner?
Sleep deprivation in addition to pain can drive you over the edge…
If pain is enough to make you cry, use whatever it takes to at least get some sleep while addressing pain. B & B have good suggestions for sleeping
      In conventional beds as well.
In middle of my last episode I would look longingly at the various beds in my house and cry. Recliner was only respite I got, and propped up my shoulder as per
      B and B.
      I wish you healing…🙏

My left shoulder I can do all tests for a frozen shoulder but in any direction about half way it’s like a nerve is pinched and hurts but I can do the exercises and complete it? It’s very stiff at nights when I go to bed and stretch it out through the day. Dr. Says everything looks good and it’s not at a stage for a shot. Is it always going to be like this ( just left ). Or will it go back to normal? It’s been about a month, I think. Thank you in advance.

I had all these symptoms except mine lasted only about 6 months. After two months I got frustrated and started working out within the range of motion that didn't cause pain. Barbell bench press seemed to help alot. After two months lifting heavy and going only to where the pain started I gradually got more range of motion until I could use a broom or pole to do shoulder dislocates. To this day I have to do those before any workout or I get shoulder pain. Also a deep tissue massager helped throughout it all. Its weird because it felt like I was never going to have any range of motion in my shoulder until I put heavy weight on it for a couple months.

I had similar injury like that on my left shoulder, but I don’t believe it was a Shoulder, it was from a previous injury. I went to a chiropractor that was recommended and he knew all about shoulder injuries. Fix me up he worked a lot on strengthening all the muscles around the shoulders and arms. It worked. You didn’t do it with weights But he did it with his weight on my arms with different positions. So I believe it when you say more weights Lot as long as you don’t reinjured them. He’s retired now so I can’t use them to fix my right shoulder, which is screwed up now, but I’m trying to remember the exercise he gave me and he performed on me so I can start fixing my shoulder, lol. I did some exercises, and it actually help my ventral motion just for a few exercises in one day

100%. If you are prone to shoulder problems then they can return/ start in the other. If you want to bring that chance to 0% then never stop "prehab" excercises. -just to be clear it's always a good idea to hold off on excercises if you feel things going bad. Prehab just to keep up health when reasonable.

Is it frozen if you can move it in all these ways, but it gets painful at a certain point? Or is it frozen shoulder only when you literally cannot move it past a certain point?

From what you guys describe, I don't think I have frozen shoulder. But it sure would make sense. My shoulders were fine until I decided to do some light pruning in my yard. After around 10 to 15 minutes, both my hands were shaking. My shoulders, bilateral, have been hurting every since...with right shoulder being worse. I can move them just fine, but with pain. And I can use them but after a few minutes of light work, they are both very fatigued. So basically I have become useless. I've seen three different doctors and they each seem to have their own opinions, from bursitis, to rotory tear. I've done PT but my shoulders do not seem to be getting any better. I'm at a point I don't know what more to do. It's now been hurting for five months. The pain seems to be getting worse. 😥

Had it in my left shoulder first. Was mis- diagnosed at first and it took 18 months to sort out. It went into my right shoulder and got treated correctly and it took 6 months to get better. Very painful, but got all movement back in the end!

I have full tear of my rotator cuff. I have full 'passive' range of motion' with the pipe, as you are showing and the surgeon is telling me I have frozen shoulder, because I have to 'cheat' to get my arm up with the pipe, but I'm telling him it's because it hurts from having detached muscle.

I have had open surgery twice for frozen shoulder. Once in May 2022 and again October 2022. Unfortunately I'm type 1 diabetic which is why it returned so soon. I'm in physical therapy 7 days a week which is painful. My shoulder is not any better and I'm scared.

I had my first covid vaccine June 2021. I immediately got frozen shoulder following the injection. I wasn’t diagnosed with it officially until recently after getting ultrasound. They thought it was SIRVA or muscle reaction to vaccine at first. I had been seeing physiotherapist since July and being honest nothing really worked. I’m so glad I found out what it was. First phase was extremely painful! Any little movement would cause spasms and the constant deep ache. Only thing that helped was heat. Thankfully I’m in the second phase and pain diminished. I was terrified but got my second vaccine last week. (Terrified it would amplify the problem). Luckily the pain subsided, and I’m back to my pre existing frozen shoulder. I’m ok with that though!!! (I opted to get second vaccine in my bad shoulder)

Omg! Me too!! I got the Johnson back in April 2021. Then I noticed I had pain in my arm that would come and go. I felt they went too high on my shoulder when they administered the vaccine. The pain escalated to daily the past couple of months so I went for X-rays and an MRI. Now I’m going to PT for the frozen shoulder in my left shoulder/arm. I too decided to do the booster a week ago in my left arm/shoulder again worried that I would then have two shoulders out of commission. With frozen shoulder I can’t lift my left arm, put my coat on, tie a scrunchie on my hair, pull the car door open, basic everyday things…The shoulder bone feels bruised like I was slammed against a concrete wall. I’ve been doing the hot and cold therapy. ..can’t really do NSAIDs because of allergic reactions and sensitivities. Hoping I’ll be pain free soon with full mobility once again.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I had this. It was 18 months from start to finish. The “freezing” was some of the most continual excruciating pain I’ve ever felt. And couldn’t move my arm any higher than my hip. The good news is that I eventually got full range of motion back, but god what a misery. Cortisone shot helped tremendously with the pain.

No idea what's going on guys, but the link to your site isn't working for me. It never leaves UA-cam and just hangs there. Ask your web designer to test the hyperlinks from a mobile device by navigating directly to UA-cam on it then attempt to navigate indirectly to your site by clicking on the link. Google and domain names can be funky. Anyway, I have no frozen shoulders but a mild impingement in one. It's gotten no worse over the years and if anything, seems less problematic the more I beat on it with this hammer, which my pt gave me. Yeah, it leaves some bruises and occasional bleeding, but nothing I can't handle. Look him up sometime. It's "Vinny & Louis Rockos physical therapy services" located behind the 7-11 on the north side across from the Hungry Howies. Honk your horn and they'll come out and fix you right up. You get an impingement hammer and an 8 oz glass of wild turkey. 😁

I’m 17, my left shoulder started like getting locked in place whenever I move it or stretch it in a certain way, my right arm does it too now like a year later, I started having problems when I was around 14-15, sometimes I wake up and like my arm I just can’t move it at all, I don’t think this is what I got idk what it is but it really don’t feel good and I don’t think I’ll ever get them fixed, it’s scary cause now I’m too afraid to do the simplest things, like throwing a punch or a football, if I throw a hook my arm sometimes completely stops in place and I can’t not move it from like the triceps down and when I throw a foot ball it’s like my arm Bounces up like right below my shoulder and if I throw it hard enough it gets locked in place and hurts

Well looks like my Chiropractor is right on the money...unfortunately. I can raise my arm in flexion a little higher than your example but not much. I can raise my arm to the side just under level with my shoulder... Sort of. And the elbow and then forearm rotation to the side... No can do at all, and hurts like hell if I try it.
the only thing that's different I guess is the length of time I've had the pain, though my chiropractor has said that these "three phases" aren't uniform with all people.
This started coming on a month and a half ago and it can still be extremely painful. Not a fun condition...

I'm having the same problem. had it for 30 years in both my shoulders. Don't bother getting a diagnose. None of these doctors know what they're doing. Five different doctors will give you five different diagnosis. They go by what the MRI technician says. The MRI is up to interpretation. There is a website where they show four arrows pointing to what they call a total supraspinatus tear. Then they're advertising stem cell injections and claiming the guy is lifting 400 lb weights just a couple months after the injections. That MRI is up to interpretation. Doctors only have opinions. The opinion of a homeless person would probably be just as good.

If you have a loss of 25% in the other movements then yes,you do.
external rotation of the shoulder (a loss of at least 50% mobility compared to the other side, is considered a positive finding) and Range of motion needs to be reduced at least 25% in 2 other planes compared to the other side such as in abduction and flexion.
