The worst part of the experience for me was losing my job, and then I lost my house because I was unable to work in my occupation. I was unable to sleep during the time my left shoulder became frozen. I fell into a deep depression and lost interest in life. I went to physiotherapy and they did laser treatments. That was comforting for the pain but did not alleviate the condition entirely. I was able to get most of my mobility back, once I started going to a manual therapist (this is someone who is a physiotherapist with extra training and can manipulate your shoulder joint to free it up). I found this treatment very helpful.
This is probably one of the most painful things I've ever experienced! I got home from work one fall evening and as I walked inside, I started taking off my jacket. Well that didn't feel good at all. My shoulder was a little stiff and I felt some pain as I extended my right arm to remove my jacket. When I got up the next morning, the pain had intensified and it took every bit of my strength to get dressed. By the time I was in the car to drive to the doctor's office, I was practically in tears! As the doctor entered the exam room, he noticed I was still standing and he could tell I wasn't in a very good position. He asked me to raise my arm and my hand barely moved a few inches. He knew it was a frozen shoulder. Then he wanted some x-rays which meant I had to change into a gown.😱 Did I mention that this is just about the worst pain I've ever had! By the time the x-rays were done, I dressed again and talked to the doctor some more, then I finally returned to my car. I got into the car and put the seatbelt on and just sat there sobbing because the pain was so overwhelming. Yes, I drove myself to the doctor! I really don't know how I made it home again. The doctor started me on a medrol dose pack. After a couple of days the pain started to subside a bit. By the time I finished the prescription, the pain was gone and I could move my shoulder again. Thank goodness! Luckily I haven't had another frozen shoulder but I'm well aware of the symptoms. I've had other problems with that shoulder but physical therapy has helped each time. I just hope I never ever ever have to experience anything like that again! I've never been as incapacitated as I was that day! The pain I felt in this brief moment was worse than any other pain I've ever had in my entire life! So if your shoulder starts to stiffen up with some pain, get it checked out quickly! Especially if you think it will be better in the morning and it's not, get help immediately! Some things don't get better without intervention! Even now after all the years, if I start feeling pain in my shoulder, I don't wait until tomorrow! This isn't something you want to experience! Thanks for sharing another great video Docs and thanks to your guest who understands what I've experienced! 😉
I have read and heard, that natural child birth is the most painful experience, as I wound not really know as I am a man, what would us blokes know. If any bloke say he understands what women go through, he is an idiot! And deserves a hiding! Do you agree? Or am I wrong?
@jonathonshanecrawford1840 I've had 3 children naturally, and yes, the pain is excruciating. ..100 x worse than my very painful frozen shoulder...BUT childbirth is temporary and the joy and hormones enableswift recovery...this FS is going on and on and on...and that is what is so miserable and debilitating
@@angieweisswange5873 My shoulder is almost better now and getting stronger daily. I think what helped was Dr John Sarno and his theory that for back pain or frozen shoulder we should think psychological and not physical. Check him out!
Had a frozen shoulder come out of nowhere last year. Very painful--move my arm in the wrong direction at night, and it was a few choice words yelled into a pillow! Difficult to put on a shirt or reach for the seatbelt in the car. After xrays ruled out other diagnoses, I passed on the steroid injections and did a few sessions of PT. Relying mostly on "Dr. Time," the symptoms gradually resolved 100% after 6-12 months--thankfully!
Same. The pain felt like a knitting needle going through your shoulder. Then the pain stopped, and I couldn't move my arm up or down. Mine lasted 3 months. No PT, and it resolved on its own. I pray it doesn't come back. 😢
I went to Chiropractor and he broke up all the adhesions and you could hear them. Felt like torture but was almost completely healed . Took time for the soreness to go away because the pain had been radiating down my back.
I was diagnosed after waiting months because of Covid. I was told PT would take about two years . Three years with no intervention. The next day, walking the dog on frozen ground, I fell incredibly hard, unable to get my hands out to break fall. As my face and eye had taken a hit and required a visit to the optometrist, it was a day or two before I realized my frozen shoulder was now unfrozen!!! I hit so hard that I think I somehow traumaticLLY FIXED IT!
I'm dealing with frozen shoulder now. It began almost a year ago. I was told that hypothyroidism made me more prone to it. Pain and debilitation led me to get a steroid injection into the shoulder. Relief was almost immediate, and range of motion increased, but that has worn off after several months. PT has been somewhat helpful, mostly manipulation of the capsule, and some stretching. I get nerve pain going down the interior of my left arm, in addition to the shoulder pain. Can't wait until this heals, and I'm hopeful that my full ROM will return eventually.
I was over 50 when I was diagnosed with frozen shoulder. The orthopedist I saw told me that there's not really anything that can be done to fix it, and that I'd just have to wait about a year. When I had strained my back, they sent me in for physical therapy. While at the physical therapist office, I saw some exercises that I wish they'd had me do for my frozen shoulder. In the end, I did slowly recover after about a year.
I had frozen shoulder 18 mo ago. I had dealt with the pain and lack of mobility for almost a year my orthopedic doctor sent me to physical therapy where they did heat,e-stem stretching exercises with pulleys, therapist using her weight to pull against it. It took 3mo 2 times a week but completely fixed it. I had 1 shot at the beginning but just working at the stretching solved my issues. Find a knowledgeable PT it was game changing
Great video. I developed frozen should on my right shoulder that was finally identified by an ortho doc that had been one of my coworkers for a long time. I was decidedly atypical in the presentation. 36 years old and with a history of mid back trauma. My doc literally stared at me for two hours as I worked a providers meeting and told me to see him. Made me get PT (im stubborn and the pain wasn't slowing me down [in my own mind]) after four months of PT, and yoga I was dramatically better. We argued over cause for years and he decided it was from carrying a 30 lb machine gun (former military) for miles on end. Please keep doing what you do.
I also was diagnosed with frozen shoulder (about 20 years ago). I was sent for physical therapy and given meds to reduce the pain. I did not take the meds but went to all my physical therapy sessions. After weeks of therapy I found the pain greatly diminished. I was told at the time that this problem may likely recur and to continue doing the prescribed exercises at home. I still have the exercise sheet I was given and although I do not do them regularly, I do bring them out with my hand weights when my shoulder gets sore/achy. This works for me and after doing the exercises daily for a few days, I find relief from the pain.
I have had this happen in both shoulders (thankfully not at the same time). My first time I was 29 and pregnant with my first daughter. I was very healthy, very active so I was surprised. It just hit me suddenly. Literally overnight. The second time was a few years later just after I had given birth to my second daughter. It was absolutely awful and painful. I would go to my gym and swim (or at least hang out) in the therapy pool. That helped a ton. If you have it know that there is help out there. If you don't like one treatment plan that you are given, choose something different. I know it can be really painful but, it will pass. It is going to get better. Hang in there.
I am currently experiencing a second round of having a frozen shoulder. In 2019 it was the left and it took 2 years to fully heal. This time its the left, very painful but I have found if I stick to an anti-inflammatory diet (no sugar, wheat, limited dairy) and taking turmeric, ginger shots has helped. Also acupuncture has helped. Massage and applying castor oil with frankincense essential oil has done wonders.
I just went through frozen shoulder, cortisone shot did nothing at all, did physical therapy for a little while, but it honestly got better on its own, it took a long time, and it was very painful though!
I had frozen shoulder 10 years ago. The pain was so intense during the freezing stage that if I moved my arm the wrong way, I would drop to my knees in agony. Maybe even worse than childbirth....It is a horrid condition. I did physical therapy and acupuncture. Nothing worked. Took a good 18 months to resolve. Five years later I got it in my other shoulder! Second time around was not as bad.
I'm exactly the same right now, right shoulder this time! Physio and a distention arthrogram eventually sorted the first out, hopefully it will work this time around too!
I had a sore right shoulder about 6 years ago, went on naproxen for knees and shoulder pain went, got knees replaced in march and am well reduced in pain and sore shoulder back/never left, but i do pilates stretches and that really helps, and u docs gave so much good advice on rehab after knee replacements that my physio said i didnt really need him and my surgeon was delighed with my walking at 6 weeks, im enjoying lufe again, walking, joined 2 choirs, work a couple of days in a fabric shop and look after grandchildren, i couldnt have done this before
I've had frozen shoulder for 8 months now. Had the first injection 5 months ago, today I had hydrodilation with ultrasound guidance. I hope it works to relieve some of the intense pain. I have all the thyroid problems or had till I removed it. I can't wait to get this over. I was an active senior and it's been life changing.
I had frozen shoulder on both shoulders a few years ago. It really came on suddenly first on one side and then the next. The only "cure" was trying to exercise the shoulders by rotating them in all different directions. After a couple of months, I noticed a huge improvement. I kept up the exercise treatment on and off for about a year until my shoulders felt almost back to normal. I have my range back, but I can no longer sleep with my arms above my head for extended periods of time. I have learned to sleep on my back a lot to compensate for this.
Now I know what happened with my shoulder about 3 years ago. I had never heard of this. Took about 15 months to "mostly" abate. Very painful. Thanks for doing this video.
This video briefly touches on the effects this condition has on one’s life. Daily functioning is 100% altered. I’ve had 4 kids. I’ve had broken bones. I’ve had surgery for a SEVERE case of calcific tendinitis in my other shoulder. I cannot stress enough just how debilitating this condition is! I am a female and have given serious thought to shaving my head bald. This causes unbelievable frustration and depression! Please don’t make light of this condition. If it’s a severe case, it’s soooo debilitating that you’d rather amputate your arm. When you literally CANNOT sleep for more than an hour or two and wake up in tears, something must be done! This is no joke and an absolute nightmare to deal with!!!
I agree. I am on my SECOND frozen shoulder right now (my first was 12 years ago) and I'm in agony. I'm a nurse--I work with a shoulder specialist at the hospital so I have access to great care but there are still no miracles. The jokes they are making are not funny at all, they are insulting. The pain is worse than childbirth, literally, because it goes on for months. (The person who commented they went to the dr the morning after their symptoms started and the pain was gone after a medrol dose pak--you likely didn't have a frozen shoulder.) I have a really high pain tolerance, I am tough, but there's just no relief from this. I had a cortisone injection that did nothing. In the last week mine has gotten much worse and I have become so miserable and kind of useless at work. I am canceling going to a close family friend's wedding this weekend because it will be so painful to get into the dress, it is form fitting and I have no range of motion in my arm anymore. (It's a formal wedding so I can't just go buy another dress.) Plus I can't imagine sitting through a wedding and reception in misery and having people try to hug me. I have lain in my bed crying the last two mornings after sleeping about 3 hours.
I totally agree with you! This affects mental health and quality of life. I've had it for 13 months and pt, injections, anti inflammatory meds, and exercises at home faithfully have done nothing. Drs dismiss the pain and everyday limitations that affect our mental health. Months and months we cant get back. This is not a joke nor should it be put in an informational video as such. Tell me how you'd feel if you couldnt perform surgery or do activities with your loved ones for 13 months then maybe youd understand why this video is offensive.
@@amymann9148 Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking while I was watching it. What if they were unable to do their work properly, or sleep, or hold their granddaughter, like me? It is so depressing. My Dr. is female and I think that helps with her being more compassionate. Not that there aren't male doctors who are (I know some)--but she has seen me at work every week and even said she's seen the life drain from my eyes. I'm usually very bubbly and happy--lately I've been like a zombie with a miserable look on my face. She said, "I know that look--I see that look on most every frozen shoulder patient who comes in my office." I had to go ahead and take FMLA and I'm having surgery in a week and a half. Wish me luck. I hope you improve, you know I feel for you!
Oh my goodness I’ve had frozen shoulder in both of mine! The first one I did not know what it was and waited until I had lost pretty much all mobility in my arm. With shots and tons of physical therapy it went away. Literally extremely painful!!!The second one I recognized the symptoms earlier and receive the same treatments before it got as bad. If is a slow 18 month process in each shoulder but now I am totally pain free and my mobility is back.
I have frozen shoulder.. it is now over a year. This past January, I started seeing a chiropractor. Over the months and weekly visits, I have almost 80% mobility. Still hurts like the dickens and cannot sleep on my left side. With him stretching, massaging, manipulating and giving me exercises, it has come a long way considering I could not move my elbow from my side even 5%. Still a long way to go, but so much better than it has been.
Great video! Yes sooooo painful. I injured my right sholuder and the frozen shoulder emerged out of that. I have been seeing an Osteopath weekly for months and going to slow down on that. I do cupping and accupuncture on myself, warming Chinese type tiger balm oil, massage gun, hot showers with ball against wall rolling on scapula...even tuning forks! And then just leaving it the hell alone aswell. Time it will take, but waking up from the pain of this thing is the worst...not being able to do my very long hair up is not great either and I cannot hug my man in bed easily which I really miss! Try and avoid shoulder injuries at all costs!!!
I’ve had it in both shoulders. No thyroid issues or diabetes. First time, I endured torturous PT for months, thinking that if I just worked harder, it would help. It didn’t, so my doc told me to stop. Second time around, I just waited. I never fully regained backward motion of either arm, but that was a small price to pay for the pain eventually stopping.
I’ve had fs on both sides -not at the same time. Super painful-exactly as described in the video. They were about a year and a half apart. The first one healed with injections and therapy. Was about to do surgery after an mri on the second one but got annoyed w the surgery clinic in Dallas. I’m so glad I didn’t do the surgery! Yes I was in pain. Yes I learned to dress drive wash etc w one arm. It took a long time but I was able to get full motion on that second shoulder with stretches and massage. After a few months I finally figured out that the tendon under the front of my armpit was the main culprit. It would not release my arm in order for me to raise it. The tendon felt like a tight wire. Maybe things evolve as one heals a fs and that tendon was just a phase of the healing process idk. Massaging and stretching that tendon was key. Other things I did… magnesium baths. Drank more water. Drastically reduced junk food and sugar intake. Ate tons more veggies. Good luck to those who have it. Don’t give up!
In the middle of this condition (ninth month) due to more than one injury to my shoulder...very painful the first few months. Very difficult to sleep on my side or on my stomach during this time. I didn't want the steroid shot so I took ibuprofen for the pain. I also had three six week sessions of physical therapy. My mobility has gone much better. I can reach around my back, towards the center of my back and to my opposite shoulder including behind it. Now it is just about being to reach all the way up. Massaging, streching in the morning and before bedtime has helped tremendously.
I developed frozen shoulder on my right side and yes for no reason. It was such a painful thing at first and yes then it froze. It took a lot of physical therapy but in time got back about 75% range of motion, then after a year I got back to 90% and that is where it has stayed.
Ive had frozen shoulder 3 yrs this Aug 😢 had a cortisone injection at drs. Then recently had 2nd hydrodiolation injection. Helped the pain but still limited movement. Can not put arm up in front or out side ways . Hope it release soon !
I had a frozen shoulder 5 years ago. I jusr got it in the other shoulder. I am over 50. My first shoulder healed with physical therapy. I start next week!
I have it for the second time in same shoulder. First time was about 5yrs ago. First time was severe and cortisone shot was helpful until it healed. Took about a yr to heal. This time I'm not sure how bad it's gonna get but pray it's nowhere near as severe as last time. First thing I told the specialist 5yrs ago was, just cut it off.
Right there with you. It seems to be coming back in both shoulders at same time now. 5.5 years down. The left shoulder is still not healed from the first time. it feels deadly in its effects. Pure evil tortorous pain. I cried today as I face this coming on like a freight train. Can barely type already.
I can highly recommend physiotherapy, however, you have to be dedicated to the exercises multiple times a day. It does take a while, there is no immediate cure for frozen shoulder, ibuprofen which is an anti-inflammatory, was a huge help and I fell in love with my heating pad and my massager with heat as well. Don't get discouraged, I was doing exercises for at least 18 months and now I have no issues with my shoulder. Good luck!
My post rotator surgery Physical therapist has had me icing my shoulder. It is now stiff after lifting my arm 45° above straight forward last week. Neck is worse to, But after reading many posts. Thankfully, I'm Confident it is not frozen.
I had a frozen shoulder just earlier this year. Lost range of motion and severe pain when I tried to move it. Once I realized it was interfering with my daily activities, I went to PT for advice. Took Meloxicam, 6 weeks of therapy, little improvement, she sent me to orthopedic doc. X-rays, confirmed frozen shoulder. Injection and 6 more weeks of therapy. Mostly better, just this week I have some soreness again in shoulder, just keep moving it. I am 51 and was told this seems to happen quite frequently in women ages 45-60. Hmmm. Hormonal changes perhaps? Thanks for a good video, docs
Mine started 2 months ago. I've been going to a chiropractor but no relief. I will start doing the stretching a lot and see how it goes. Good to know it's not forever!
Frozen shoulder is debilitating and demoralizing with constant pain, unable to sleep etc. An orthopedic surgeon offered to treat it with MUI, manipulation under anesthesia. I jumped at the chance. The procedure worked and the shoulder got released and the pain subsided within a few weeks.
Dealt with frozen shoulder for about 12 months. Worst pain I’ve ever had. No sleep. PT no help. Manipulation under anesthesia after 12 months. Here I am 1 year later. No more pain at all. Still some restrictions but minimal. Shoulder functioning 97%.
another great video - i am experiencing this exact problem and you've helped put it into perspective. i had an injury and it's been sore for just over a year. i have lost only a slight amount of mobility. doing stretching now.
I had it on my right shoulder about 4 yrs ago lasted a yr. Now I'm fighting with it with my left. At 1st I thought it was my rotator cuff. Did PT, had MRI I do have 2 small tears but they are not worries about that so now I'm back in PT as I was not sure if I needed surgery or not. It's hard to do my job but I fight through it. It hurts so bad. It's been since April, 3 months so far this time.
I got a frozen shoulder right after my surgery for labrum tear repair that was caused due to racket sports. It’s been 9 months and I don’t have any movement back. I find it hard to believe I will be fine even after 1 year. Then I also got the worst tennis elbow pain as well. The mental pain and agony is indescribable and I feel that only the person going through this can actually understand how mentally draining it is. I wish I didn’t get that surgery. I am 32 years old and I got this. :(((
I had rotator cuff surgery & I’ve been going to therapy for 6 weeks now but my arm & shoulder are worse! The therapist says I have frozen shoulder now! It hurts a lot worse than it did before surgery!! I can’t drive , comb my hair , use my right hand to lift a water bottle! So frustrated! Going back to doctor to see what’s next I can’t take the pain especially at night!!!
Took Levaquin antibiotic on 2 separate occasions and ended up with Frozen Shoulder on both occasions. Lasted 6 months both times. Now listing Levaquin as one of my "allergies".
This was timely! It only went up an hour ago, on the day I injured my shoulder by falling on a hard pavement. Nothing broken but stiffness and awful pain so I expect it is 'frozen'. Thanks for the advice, I expect the pain to go within 3 years, that is something to look forward to!
I shattered my upper humerus in 2011. Surgery and PT and it was great for many years. About 8 months ago, I started noticing less ROM and some tenderness in my shoulder. Had my first PT appointment today and the Therapist seemed to think it was a classic case of Frozen Shoulder. I had most of the symptoms and demographics (overweight, diabetic female). After one session of manipulation, seems as though some of the "frozen" is melting! Therapy hurt a little, but he was able to manipulate my shoulder more at the end than at the beginning of the session...only 29 more sessions to go!!
I am experiencing it now. I can't reach behind my back. It has been three months. I go to physical therapy, where I have learned some exercises to help stretch and regain range of motion. It is still painful when I take off my clothes or a coat. I ask my husband for help with my bra. No one has offered or told me about shots. I go to therapy in an hour and will ask her if I could get one. I had a tennis elbow in the same arm about 7 years ago, and physical therapy helped within a couple of months. This is still painful. Heat helps. Thank you for the video, I can clearly understand what it is now. I have watched other videos but you explained it clearly.
I was washing out the shower reaching up scrubbing then bending down scrubbing the floor. Later that day I couldn’t move my arm, put on underwear or do anything with that arm. Went to physiotherapist who couldn’t budge it. She sent me to surgeon hundreds of kms away. I didn’t want to see surgeon so got a second opinion from another physiotherapist who used a TENS machine, massaged everywhere around the joint including the armpit, & gradually gave me exercises to do. It took months but eventually loosened it. I keep up with the exercises not overdoing it. It pays to get a second opinion sometimes. I have Osteoarthritis & got a hip replacement. Physiotherapy alone doesn’t fix everything sometimes.
I have it in both shoulders now. and has been like this for almost a year. the pain is hell on earth. I cry when I sleep, says the wife. I hope that it will get better soon
I agree that this is often associated with hormones changes. I suffered with a frozen shoulder shortly after a hysterectomy which sent me into immediate menopause. Physiotherapy helped me - but really took well over one year to fully recover.
Horrible pain! I was diagnosed early and began therapy, still got cortizone shots, 3 of them. It took me over a year to feel myself again. I did gained back mobility but only 90-95%. Sadly, I started with pain again few days ago after 3 yrs of feeling better. And yes, you can get it again on the same shoulder. Being familiar with the symptoms I think my right shoulder is showing some signs of frozen shoulder too, and I'm right handed. Thankfully I know what to do in order to feel immediate relief. I also have pain killers in order to sleep while adding heat to my shoulder. It is vital to do stretching, it gives you the comfort you need avoiding the throbbing pain it causes. Today my pain level is 10, but the excercises must continue. If you don’t do them you will feel worst. Thank you.
Had it. Can’t articulate how painful it was. Thank GOD the cortisone shot fixed it. There was a chance the injection would not work. It worked immediately. I live in fear I’ll get frozen shoulder again. Ef’ing terrible!! 🍁 it’s nice to hear fewer than 5% recurring
Literally have it as we speak, hence why I’m here on this video comment. No trauma and don’t really play sports, it honestly came out of nowhere but I do sleep on my side or belly down and arm over me so perhaps that. Started officially two days ago and today I tried some acupuncture with E-stim, some other devices, heat lamp with infra red light/heat and the stretching and movement (which was a bit painful) and it all has become incredibly better! Pain still there on certain movements but definitely a solid 40/50 percent better, range of motion noticeably better with less pain and now I can even lay on it or put pressure on it when I stand up with said arm without any real pain!
Useful video to set expectations, thanks guys. This condition is indisciminent. I'm fit & healthy and have had this on both shoulders. Don't waste too much $ on treatment as it made no difference. Be patient. 10 months per side for me. Just manage the pain. Good luck.
I had a frozen shoulder about 15 years ago. It seemed to happen because I had a very bad habit of sleeping with my arm under my pillow, so weight of my fat head on my shoulder/upper arm most of the night. I worried that the pain and limited movement might be permanent so went to a physiotherapist. She's a sports industry specialist. A couple of months later after a combination of heat treatment, electrical stimulation, and massage/stretching, I was back to normal. No trouble since probably because I'm now more aware. An old friend admitted that he couldn't lift his arm over his head, could no longer play tennis. I told him about my physiotherapy, etc. He just shrugged and remained resigned to his fate. I don't know if his problem sorted itself out. Approaching old age can make some people fatalistic, some people determined not to lie down and die.
I just got diagnosed with Frozen shoulder, 2 days ago, and it sucks because I'm a drummer, I need my shoulder to be able to play the songs that I have to play. I'm getting some injections next week, I hope like hell they work. 6 months to 2 years it's a long time for me not to be able to play My Drum set.
Good information. There seems to be lots of options for treatment, which is a good thing. Down side of the condition seems to be it can take a long time (well, in my eyes a long time) to get decent relief. Guessing for someone who has it, that time frame feels like forever. It is interesting that shoulder problems can cause some of the worst pain we can feel.
Not sure if it was frozen or arthritis, but a few decades ago my shoulder was so painful that I couldn’t do some of the simple things such as opening doors or carrying my purse. I rubbed castor oil on it about 3 times a day, & in a month I saw improvement. Almost total relief about 6 mos later. It never totally went away, but it stopped bothering me. Castor oil has helped my other joints as well. The key is persistence.
For me the pain in the shoulder started overnight in bed. It progressed for a few days and I was not able to bring my arm up shoulder high from the side but could rotate it and bring my arm up to my face. I had one shot in the shoulder and 10 weekly visits to PT and finally got through it.
I’m a healthy woman, 62yrs old. Out of the blue my left shoulder pain started Dec 2023, continues even though I do hot and cold compresses. Night-time is worst, persistent muscle throbbing wakes me up consistently. I’ve started routine of gentle yoga stretching for my back and now shoulder, seems to help a bit. Visited my doc, got an xray and started physio. Hopeful my FS will heal soon.
Go to a chiropractor and have him break up those adhesions. I had this same thing a few years back and the pain started affecting my back. You will hear the adhesions break away and will feel so much better afterwards.
I have developed frozen shoulder after having a superspanis tear for 2 yrs. How is surgery done since you can't be in a sling with the frozen shoulder?? Also have Osteoarthritis,, subscapularis tendinosis, biscep tendinitis, and and subdeltoid bursitis Thank you for the video and any insight to surgery measures.
I have been lifting weights since my early twenties. I developed frozen shoulder on my left at age 48. I had one hydrodilatation injection, and it was like a miracle cure. After a few months of follow-up physiotherapy, I had my range of motion back to 85%, and after one year, 95%. However, I had a labral tear and nerve damage of my infraspinatus on the same side two years afterwards and I had major surgery. Now I am 56, I am still lifting weights regularly, and I am as fit as I was in my 40s.
@@singhonlo67 55 here. I quit several exercises, due to joints issues from them. Slow rep cadence is safer for the joints than pumping out reps quickly.

I love this info. Hypothyroidism is my thing…. I had a Thyroid uptake blood test in May I would show you the labs but that would not be right; any way my Dr had me on 25mg of Thyroid (Armour) IGR, now I take 60mg… plus I have all the arthritis problems…I’ve been on those for a week….maybe it will help!!❤❤
I'm currently going through frozen shoulder and it's really sucks. Have had it for 6 months, but just got offically diagnosed and a cortizone shot. 3 days later, hasn't helped at all, next up will try a Fluoroscopie via distensive arthrographie, anyone ever tried that and if so what results did you feel?
1980 I fell forward while ice skating. I put both arms out in front to break my fall. Alittle pain and after a few weeks that went away. I was diagnosed with adhesive capsulitis in my right arm in 2000 (20 years later) and the left arm 2002. I was unable to raise the arm more than shoulder high. I got the manipulation procedure while under sedation and then several weeks of physical therapy. It has now been over 23 years and no reoccurrence.
I got frozen shoulder on my right shoulder in 2021. Excruciating it was so painful I couldn’t sleep 😩 I ended up getting a Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA) in 2022. With 2 months of physical therapy I got my full ROM back!! Now my left shoulder is bothering me possible frozen shoulder 😣 I will be doing the MUA.
In 2009, I had a frozen shoulder. I had 2 visits with PT. When I complained that the exercises were very painful and reducing my ROM, the PT shrugged and said I HAD to do the exercises. I had a methylprednisolone injection prior to starting PT. I made an appt with my old standby ortho. He sent me to a shoulder doc in Sacramento. Dr Hirahara was researching PRP. I know that PRP has not been conclusive but he gave me PRP. I had excellent, very responsive PT and recovered completely. Who knows if it was the PRP, the excellent PT or the combination? I still use the same PT clinic; I've a few other injuries. . .
I have a very high pain threshold but frozen shoulder was so painful that it almost killed me!! 😩😩😩 I had it for over a year & I was shaking so much from the pain that the PT’s couldn’t even work with me. I was given a t-bar to use for stretching the capsule.
About a month ago I woke up with a painful right shoulder. I couldn't reach behind my back or reach over to my left side. A couple of nights ago I reacted to a feeling on my left side and slapped at it with my right hand. 😳 that was a big yeouch! So I am now using my resistance bands to slowly and carefully rehabilitate it. As my arms gets more strength, it feels a little better. Still sleeping is troublesome at times. Hoping it resolves asap. This sucks on ice.
I had a frozen shoulder about a year and a half ago. I went through the physical therapy but still needed a cortisone shot. It's mostly better now but I can still feel some slight stiffness. Occasionally if I'm reaching forward and upwards it catches. It's not perfect, but livable, I guess.
There is no need for shots in the shoulder nor surgeries. The tendons from the scapula ,the neck shoulder and the breast all conjoin at the shoulder and are all connected together at the side of the bicep. Start by thumb nuckling the side of the bicep and you will feel what is like a knot. That is like tightly wound rubber bands Like inside a golf ball. 30 seconds if you can stand it. Then arms straight down at side and twist wrists back and forth for 30 seconds. If able. put hands behind back and interlace your fingers and push down as if you were pushing against something. Pull arms up behind back while fingers still interlaced and push back down again Repeat as often as possible 30 seconds at a time ,for about 5 minutes.... You will be happy to have released the tension of your frozen shoulder. It helps me and others I know and have shown this technique working wonderfully !!
Please answer for the fill in the blank part, releated to the first instruction ________ 30 seconds if you can stand it. Do what for 30 seconds ? push in, rub vigorously, Please help me fill in that blank. Looking for all available help...
Hi there! You caught me at the right time.....yes you stand straight and with right or left hand make a fist. then you use the knuckle on the bottom of your thumb and use it to knead the muscle in the side of your bicep. You will find that spot and rub it up and down ,sideways, and or in circles. It is like a little knot where all the tendons meet. You will know when you get the right spot as it is a like a Nickle sized spot on the side of the bicep. And it will be painful when you knead it fairly hard... then follow up with two other maneuvers and repeat all 3 maneuvers @@TheLoglady007
Hey. Thanks for sharing. I am still trying to discern, where on the "side of the bicep" you are talking about kneading? When I think of the side of my bicep I think of my tricep. But that doesn't make sense..? @@todayistomorrow9067
I’ve had a bad shoulder for years from sleeping on my left side to counter acid reflux. (My doctor told me to lol). Dead hangs have worked wonders since I began doing them a year ago. I could not move my arm laterally more than 5 or 6 inches before I began performing this daily exercise. Now I’m slowly adding weight to a lateral raise.
I read somewhere that hanging can solve 80 or 90% of the shoulder issues in many people. Probably depends a lot what issue you have. But it is just a good thing to do for the shoulder.
I had frozen shoulder about 5 years ago, took close to 2 years to get surgery. I was in constant pain. It is coming back now and in the same shoulder, even though the doctor said he hadn't seen it come back in the same shoulder, I am proof that it can.
After having surgery on both shoulders for torn tendons I developed rozen shoulder on both sides. Did physio, had hydrodialation, did a lot of rehab at home. I didn't think it would ever get better but with perseverance and a lot of hard work I can now do 30kg military press easily, I have regained almost full range of movement. I now do 1 hour of weight training g 5 days a week and I'm 55 years old. I feel great.
I had a frozen shoulder. Ended up getting a steroid shot which remedied the situation - what a relief. 🌿Before the diagnosis, I looked up videos on UA-cam on how to take a shower and dress myself with a rotator cuff injury, since that's what I thought it was. The videos helped me to stay independent.
Same here, same basic treatment on both shoulders (different times) and it took some time to heal! My last treatment was on my right shoulder (2020) still recovering (from both treatments)
I presently have this issue now. I had the steroid jection done as well, but now I am noticing that my muscles near my shoulder hurts more, as well as it is swollen more than before. I am doing physical therapy currently, still in pain but hopeful this will work.
Yes, I've had _frozen Shoulder_ on my right shoulder, and does it ever hurt! My doctor prescribed *Tramadol* for the pain, it reduced the pain a bit! I couldn't really sleep properly because of the Frozen Shoulder! My doctor sent me to the local hospital for a X Ray, and it didn't show much! So he referred me to specialist! And he injected steroids, the pain went away, the specialist used an ultrasound to see where it was! It took nearly 2 months for pain to go away, and 12 months for the use of my arm again, it was still sore on the upper arm. a few months later, my other shoulder the same thing! I'm hoping it does happen to my other shoulder 😃
@@ClareHarrison-qi3bw Your right no one in their right mind wants frozen shoulder unless they are American insurance companies and charge the patient $100,000+> for the treatment! Since I have had frozen shoulder twice, I know what it is like, very painful!
Yes, I have had it on both Shoulders in the last few months. I had it 2 years ago on the right side. It flares up when I get on this machine bench press. So I am left wondering if it is true frozen shoulder or part injury? But it still acts the same way and hard to lift your arm over your hear. I had success with the rubber cord or band stretch exercise wide grip and over head behind blades hold and stretch and behind buttocks with band lifting both hands looking straight ahead,. Also elbows in front with band slight stretch with band for rotator cuff area. Good luck (Age 64)
Me too! I would be up at 2am scouring the internet for any treatment I might have missed the previous 17789 times I tried to find crazy ideas for help. Nothing. I finally told my chiro that he had to try something different cuz the md wanted to do mri. Chiro taped it, from one shoulder to the next and down my biceps. In 15 min I had odd excruciating pain that took my breath away but only lasted for 2 min. Then a cold feeling traveled from shoulder to fingers and then warmth flooded back up. That was the end of it. I kept the tape on over night and got a big blister from it where it didn't stay down but it was wonderful to sleep all night again!!! Almost 2 yrs! Now I have it in my other shoulder.... ugh.... going to order some tape and do it myself.
I'm on month 5 of frozen shoulder. I recently had a steroid injection in the back of my shoulder and then another into the joint under X-ray. Both have helped so much. My pain is much less and range of motion is probably 50% better, but I still get zingers if I move the wrong way. Those zingers are intense! I start PT in a few days and I'm really hoping that it helps. It's been an ordeal.
I had a frozen left shoulder in the fall of 2019 from a yoga exercise. I ignored it at first but by the end of the year I was in pain and couldn't do much with that arm. A cortisone shot worked miraculously as well as physical therapy. My shoulder has been good ever since.
Do you know which particular pose? I have frozen shoulder right now, well, I’m in the thawing phase and was wondering if I did something in yoga to cause this? I do yoga 4-6 times a week, and I don’t want to make this happen again.
I was diagnosed with calcific tendonitis in three shoulders-not that I have three shoulders-it was in one twice. All different times. Sounds a lot like frozen shoulder symptoms. Pretty painful when the dissolving process was going on.
I started having pain last year in October November time and soon increased to a point I had to seek medical attention. Since it was still early stage where I had full mobility I had to get MRI done where it was confirmed early onset of frozen shoulder. I was then given few choices, one of them was hydrodistention which help me to accelerate recovery. Within two week I moved to thawing phase and responding well to physiotherapy. I have regained 80% of my shoulder motion. I was told if I do nothing then it can take up to three year to be fully recovered.
Thank you for this video. After testing my hormones at the age of 47 , results came back very low estrogen. 1 months later frozen shoulder started up , still dealing with the agonising pain 3 months down the line. X-ray showed nothing wrong with shoulder, had cortisone injections in shoulder still experiencing pain, earliest appt to see orthopaedic surgeon is in April hoping to get some sort of relief. Question: Could this be more prevalent in Females due to extremely low estrogen levels ( post menopause)?
See the medical medium and frozen shoulder…
@jonathonshanecrawford1840 I've had 3 children naturally, and yes, the pain is excruciating. ..100 x worse than my very painful frozen shoulder...BUT childbirth is temporary and the joy and hormones enableswift recovery...this FS is going on and on and on...and that is what is so miserable and debilitating

My shoulder is almost better now and getting stronger daily. I think what helped was Dr John Sarno and his theory that for back pain or frozen shoulder we should think psychological and not physical. Check him out!
@@angieweisswange5873
I thought I posted this already but I don’t see it. Dr John Sarno’s techniques really help frozen shoulder as well.
Same here too.....pt and time
Same. The pain felt like a knitting needle going through your shoulder. Then the pain stopped, and I couldn't move my arm up or down. Mine lasted 3 months. No PT, and it resolved on its own. I pray it doesn't come back. 😢
Mine lasted a year and a half with PT. Now I have it on the other side. No fun.
I went to Chiropractor and he broke up all the adhesions and you could hear them. Felt like torture but was almost completely healed . Took time for the soreness to go away because the pain had been radiating down my back.
Yup me too..had it on my right for a year..was much betr aftr the shots..loosn up n less pain but nw its on my left..ouchhh ..@@1corinthians-138
Wow ..yup very painful .
Wow!! I hope you are doing well now ♥️🕊💪
Wow!! I don't want to fall but I wouldn't mind a sudden unfreezing!
If you haven’t already gone: go to the chiropractor and have him break up those adhesions.

Look up dr John sarno. His back technique also works on frozen shoulders.
How many weeks of pt it was cured
This was my experience exactly. I kind of wonder if the physical therapy was even worth doing for this this condition.
@@robkenyon6949 They wanted me to go twice a week!! I did that for a month or so, then didn't go again, I don't think it helped my situation at all.
Keep moving and stretching your shoulder! It does get better.
Aww thank you!
Yes! No one understands the intense pain unless they have experienced it, too!
I also have it a second time in my opposite shoulder now. 😭
I'm exactly the same right now, right shoulder this time! Physio and a distention arthrogram eventually sorted the first out, hopefully it will work this time around too!
Very sad😢
Noo! Now I’m scared. I’m about 20 months out from my fs and trying to regain strength and full mobility. I always called it drop to the floor pain.
My frozen shoulder about 10 years ago was absolutely excruciating! After physical therapy it took almost 2years recover!
same for me 2 years to recover, it was brutal!
Would you please share/update since your hydrodilation? I'm 8mos in and considering it myself.
@@tthill75 It really helped. I am now thawed. I still don't the range as well before but working on it.
(The person who commented they went to the dr the morning after their symptoms started and the pain was gone after a medrol dose pak--you likely didn't have a frozen shoulder.)
I have a really high pain tolerance, I am tough, but there's just no relief from this.
I’m a few months in and I DID just shave my head. It was too difficult and painful to wash my hair as it was. Luckily my hair grows fast but still 😕
Oh my goodness I’ve had frozen shoulder in both of mine!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I am going through frozen shoulders and is very nice to hear story like yours
His description of the problem line up with my experience. Thank you.
Definitely could be related to hormones. Hang in there
I had frozen shoulder both sides about a year apart. Had manipulation. Therapy afterwards was brutal but it worked!
Thank you for sharing this video. Very informative. I can now decide what to do with my frozen shoulder.
Acupuncture helped me. I was in extreme discomfort and pain. Took 3 sessions .
Definitely worth a try.
Mine started 2 months ago. I've been going to a chiropractor but no relief. I will start doing the stretching a lot and see how it goes. Good to know it's not forever!
Time was what helped me.
So glad to hear that. Thank you for sharing.
I’m massage therapist but I try to learn as much as I can to help client feel better. All wonderful info 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Thanks very much all Doctors
Thank you for answering every question I had about frozen shoulder!
I never had this yet.... I have had 2 trigger finger surgeries on each hand and blessed by having them done.
That was very clear and educational
I got a frozen shoulder right after my surgery for labrum tear repair that was caused due to racket sports. It’s been 9 months and I don’t have any movement back. I find it hard to believe I will be fine even after 1 year. Then I also got the worst tennis elbow pain as well. The mental pain and agony is indescribable and I feel that only the person going through this can actually understand how mentally draining it is. I wish I didn’t get that surgery. I am 32 years old and I got this. :(((
I hear you. Its the same for me. Especially when you are young and out of a job because of being physically debilitated
Been doing PT for a couple weeks and it has been getting better very slowly. Very painful and so uncomfortable at times.
Love your videos…very informative….please do a video on rheumatoid arthritis and treatments.
For sure will add to the list
Thank you Dr. Weenik, and Dr. Zalzal. Great video!
This works!!! 🎉thanks guys. No wonder you’re both so famous ❤
Going lighter these days? With the weights...

Omgosh, started a job , using muscles I forgot I had! Short of it- frozen shoulders AND frozen hips!! The pain I endured was indescribable, sooo bad!
I have had the same shoulder get frozen several times. No diabetes & no hypothyroidism. Latest one is 4 years.
I was just diagnosed with frozen shoulder after a fall that tore 2 tendons, awful pain .
After doing the stretches, I could already feel a difference in range of motion. Thank you so much!
I had it 8 yrs ago, cortisone shot cleared it up, now i have it in the right shoulder
Wow, I can’t get over all the bad things that can happen to our joints. It’s so very sad
Yes, you don't want Frozen Shoulder Ping Pong! 😀

Had frozen shoulder for almost 2 years ,oh boy how painful it was!
Thank you all
Very good information. What causes a frozen shoulder?? How to treat it?
Great news. Thanks for sharing
