I really like ultra pure! I was on Hetman’s no. 1 for my horn for a while and it worked fine but ultra pure is just better for me. Granted, my horn is about 20 years old so I imagine Hermans no. 2 or 3 would’ve been better

I use Hetman #1 on my Manchester Brass Bb and other horns. Great stuff!

I was introduced to Hetman’s in the early 2000s and never looked back. I also believe it is made in the town next to where I grew up. My first bottle of valve oil in the fifth grade was Holton. I believe the stuff was straight kerosene oil, and was NASTY to breathe in!

agree: CASS is a slow oil. I have yet to try Hetmans. Bach oil is fast, but smelly and evaporates too quickly. I found a brand from China, labelled "Mammoth" - it's a darn good oil, cheap, fast, lasts a very long time, colourless, odourless. another highly rated oil is BERP. my horn is Bach Strad.

Valve oil is personal-different oils react differently from person to person depending on the chemistry in their saliva. I tried Hetman over 20 years ago and didn't like it all...same with Al Cass...made my valves sluggish and stick...for me, 5 Starr works the best but, that's me. You have to experiment to see which oil works the best with your particular chemistry....Lamp Oil also works great but has a strong odor, like an old band room.

I did a long time ago. I found it ok but nothing to get excited over.

Haha, I've watched plenty of students struggle with the child lock.
You need to squeeze the lid inwards (to make an oval shape) and twist.
I'll make a quick video for you when I'm back at my trumpets.

    How is old

Id say anything older than 30 years is old. But it also depends how often you play your instrument. If like me and playing it for 4-8 hrs per day, I'd probably look at going to a #2 after 10 years.
