  • This video is about a simple repair to free up your slow valves. This repair does not always work but it is a simple first step. It will not do any damage if you are careful. If this does not work, there is likely another problem.

This was super helpful! I did accidentally rip a t-shirt in the process, but it solved the problem!

I've had this problem before and solved it the same way. Start simple and work your way into more complex stuff. Excellent video!

I have a Yahama trumpet that fell, bending the 2nd valve slide and binding the 2nd valve. A local repairman fixed the dent and unstuck the 2nd valve which works fine now. However, the 1st valve is sticking now and never did before the fall. I've tried cleaning as outlined in the videos but the valve is still sluggish when released slowly. Any suggestions?

Great. I just dug my old trumpet out from sitting idle since 1983. Going to try this. What valve oil do you recommend?

How do I fix a trumpet valve when it's depressed it sounds like metal hitting metal?

There are a lot of reasons for this. My first guess is the felt on the valve cap is too thin causing the valve to go down too far and hit the bottom valve cap. To diagnose this, loosen the bottom valve cap and see if the sound goes away.

      Don't they always?
I don't think I've ever seen one on the used market without a dent or wrinkle.
