- Never Turn Your Back on a Friend is Budgie's third album, released in 1973.
This is the band's best known album and is notable for its inclusion of "Breadfan", the band's best-known song. Metallica recorded a cover version of "Breadfan" in 1988.
The album cover was done by Roger Dean, who has done much of the album artwork for progressive rock band Yes.

Hmmm ... song is playing back a tad too fast. It's a fast song, of course, but for those of us that wore the vinyl out long before CD's - this is just playing at like "34" instead of "33 1/3" - may be a problem with the original post - may be a mistake in one of the many international CD's released of this album?
Interesting. I first heard it on a compilation called Metallic-Era that had all the original songs Metallica covered, and it's always sounded exactly like this to me. Maybe they decided to speed it up a bit on later pressings; it wasn't uncommon for bands to speed up the tape a bit during mastering back in the day.
Great song, but they have 100 other songs that are better.
