Greatest band ever to come out of Wales simply brilliant 👏 the best ever RIP Burke Shelley sadly missed your music lives on forever 😮
Nobody does it like Budgie, chainsaw riffs and epic songs. RIP Burke, always my hero.
Since there is little to nothing being made today, having to look to the past to find good music and Budgie is pure gold!
Bourge was a fantastic guitar picker..always loved Budgie..way..way ahead of everybody..most underrated group ever..
One of the best bands ever
The greatest band you never heard of....
Seriously. Just heard about them a couple days ago, and already, they're one of my favorites of all time.
2020
Found Budgie today through Metallica’s version of Breadfan which my dad told me to listen too. Can’t believe he never told me about these guys every song I’ve heard is fucking gold.
Metallica borrowed from Budgie too. That little bass part around the 5:13 mark was used in Anestesia Pulling Teeth
The view the proud the budgie fan dads can't give away all their secrets just some of them the rest you have to figure out on your own and make your own.
One of the first good Welsh rock groups , and still yet to be bettered.
They never will be mate.
Rest in peace, Shelley Burke, the voice of Budgie. The fantastic band all the great credit as inspiration that remained in shadows. Blasting ‘powdered milk in memoriam. Diolch for the music!
people make too much drama... his life wasn't as sad as people say, they were playing crowded gigs after all, they were not playing empty venues... people have to relax a bit 🤣
Of course. Also all three guys got married, had kids and lived relatively normal lives while remaining underground rockstars and one of the first pioneers of heavy metal. Pretty sure they also never wanted to make it mainstream.@@FeelingShred
As others have said, a very underrated band, could still wipe the floor back then with most bands today.
ANY band today - 99% of them suck.
no recognisance for me
I guess it’s not really my place. But I’m sure my dad(Ray Phillips) would really appreciate your kind comments. You Budgie fans are amazing and with all due respect.Double amazing!!!!!!Hod bless you beautiful people.❤️❤️❤️🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻👍👍👍
Ray, Tony and Burke produced the heaviest music along side Sabbath. Ray I take my hat off to you sir, great music, great drums, wishing you well.
Budgie is fucking amazing. Life changing 🙏🏼
Greetings from Vienna / Austria. I still hear BUDGIE on LP. I love their music . A big "Thank You" to your Dad and his mates . This tunes keeps me young !
I've been listening to and studying bands and music since 1978. I don't know a lot but I know good music and a good band when I hear it and I don't know how in the world this, slipped past me without ever hearing it, and I'm glad, even though I'm late, I have gotten the chance to hear it cause this is some of the best I've ever heard. This is some of the best! This band should have been world wide!
@@invisiblewithlibertyandjus8458 This is Rock , their music stalked me all over the years. Since 1971.
I was a big fan of Budgie in the 70's, one of the most under rated band.
no fan now?
@@christianbavan2083 Of course, but I do not listen to music as much today as when I was young, but when I do it is still on Budgie and similar bands from the 70's, today's music I am not interested in at all.
@@kentbergstrom3020 Of course you are not interested in today's music...YOU CLEARLY GOT TASTE. Only people without taste can be interested in today's stuff
@@giuseppemaggio5894 there are a lot of great modern bands, stop crying about how old music is the only good music because you're missing out
@@sabbathbloodysabbath3351 The best stuff from today is worse whan the average back in the 70s. It's a fact that in those times you HAD to be good to be succesful. There were no recording machines and computers, there was no autotune and music was made to be RELEVANT! Today's music is made to last for a 1 month. Even if a performer has the talent, the mass just won't appreciate it today
Budgie was so under rated. These guys rock!
Tony Bourge is freakin' awesome ! That guitar sound is as mighty as ever.Never gets old. Never !!
The sound Is a a Gibson Sg I own one because of them and Black Sabbath I have Doctoral in music
For real that guy is a fucking amazing player
Criminally underrated, i gotta say
Tony is such a badass....🤘🥃💪
bummer they never got recognition as a pioneering kick ass trio they were
Brilliant band, huge influence on other more successful bands. There ain’t no justice. Another great welsh near miss, Lone Star
i hear u the greats get ignored yet somehow the rrhof lets rapp stars into it.how is rapp allowed into a rock great hall of fame. makes zero sense.would the rapp hall of fame if they have or are getting one allow testament and overkill into it.hell no..i rest. rock on!
In my humblest of opinions this is the most underrated band of the '70's, (and yes MOXY was cool as hell too) Period. So glad I stumbled upon them many moons ago...
Agreed
Along with Legs Diamond and Capt Beyond
You mean Roxy?
@@SKYSAW59
I forgot about the band ROXY.
They , along with MOXY, were top notch
There’s also the 70s lineup of pentagram
and the bass lines that mr Shelley plays .... AMAZING *****
This album is one of their best. Great stuff.
"THE" BEST !!!
Great band
You are the greatest thing since powdered milk is the greatest thing since powdered milk
R.I.P Burke shelley. thanks for all the music!!
It's fucking heavy man..Budgie should be in line with black sabbath, deep purple and led zeppelin
Also Free and Humble Pie
**"Crash course in brain surgery" is another greatness that American bands covered, yet, how did this unbelievably great band not get the recognition they deserve?!?!
In terms of tone and mix this is about as good as it gets for a rock trio. All three instruments stand out huge without getting in each other's way. Something about the 70s that they could get great recordings like this.
analog
The phasing at the begining is really funny ..it sounds like 🔥 fireworks 🎆🎇
Ray Philips amazing drummer 🥁🥁🥁🔥🔝🔝🔝🖤💜
One of the best song's :))) I worship Budgie and i think they are underestimated. ! One of the best bands ever for me. My LOVE.
i know since 1971 i im ok
We will always remember You here in Poland !!!!!!!!
is there any Polish word for Badass or like Holy Fucking Shit ? 🤣these guys deserve it 🤘
Rest in peace Burke
This is just great. Total madness, Budgie did what ever they wanted. Thank you for THAT!
Burke and Tony (and Ray, Phil, Steve) - you men knew how to rock. Hope you are looking down on us Burke.
Seen em in Derby, 77ish, there were 4 of em on stage. never forget how good they were🔉
Just heard this song yesterday for the first time. Absolutely sublime!
so legendary stunning songs
marquee club,early70s, Budgie,,,,,,,,support band Judas Priest !!
Budgie the first heavy metal band.
Budgie are awesome I have a budgie obsession wich goes right back I worked as a stevedore on the wharfs I was as hot as a dockers armpit and in for the kill for the money a breadfan you might say, that takes guts !
any crazy stories from that time come to mind? 🤘
This is a fine LP. Much under rated band. Saw them live quite a few times around 1980-82. Fabulous classic British rock.
Doktor Uzi Agree!
Underrated indeed. If it wasn't for Metallica, I probably never would have heard them.
+Barry McNicholl same.
Iron Maiden for me. They covered "I can't see my feelings"
Saw Budgie at the Liverpool Stadium in '71' 72 and '73 with the original line-up. They just don't make bands like this anymore. I can hear Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Megadeth, Napalm Death and a host of others here.....all influenced by the Welsh rockers.
and Red Hot Chilli Peppers with the funky / heavy Metal style ... R.H.C.P. maybe the most influenced from Budgie band .....
oh, and Iron Maiden of course ... Steve Harris influenced from the bass Line at 5:17΄ in this song to write "Phantom of the Opera" ....
Kelvin Pell Fuck the Foo Fighters man they fucking suck asshole
@@user-vb8rf2hn5v 6:54 ish sounds like 22 Acacia Avenue...

You are the biggest thing since powdered milk
Baby for me it`s true
I can give you any old thing
`cause you`ve just got to be good too
My oh my, my kind of woman is an all time winning gal
I hear one saddest story 'bout the lover and a man
Oh it hurts me when i cry
Oh woman child give it all to me
You are the biggest thing since powdered milk
Baby for me it`s true
Well i can give you my guitar
And songs inside are true
You`re all i`ll ever want but i need you more and more
But i don`t need nobody else to give me what i came here for
Oh it hurts me when i cry
Oh woman give it all to me
Yeah yeah yeah!
What kind of a woman will ruin my soul
What kind of a woman would take me whole
Oh woman to one man, no tears, my soul
That kind of woman will ruin my home
And when you walk in
You`ll stand twenty feet tall, stand twenty feet tall
My mind is a burning live wire to my brain
My mind is confusing the rich with the sane
Oh woman to one man, like rain to the snow
Believe in me woman don`t leave my home
And when you walk in
You`ll stand twenty feet tall, stand twenty feet tall
Oh yeah
What kind of a woman will ruin my soul
What kind of a woman would leave me whole
Jesus Christ, if you're gunna quote the lyrics, get them right. "You`ll stand twenty feet tall, stand twenty feet tall". Seriously?
Thanks✨👏
I love how this song pretty much descends into heavy metal territory at 5:40
That's the part of the song i REALLY LIKE
Reminds me of Judas Priest's Sad Wings of Destiny album, bluesy metal.
@Rodolpho H. and ride the sky by Lucifer's friend
@@RCAvhstape Judas Priest was their opening band 1973-1974 shows iirc
@@ItsBriiiiii That would've been a great show to see I bet.
Today is my Budgie birthday! First time hearing this band. Sadly I am 43 years old and not sure how this group escaped me. This is my first Budgie song. Loved it, listened to the whole album this is off of here on YT. Fantastic, especially the bass playing. Love how it is in the forefront. Great stuff!
Happy Birthday dude!!!!!
good choice white breadfan and other songs i like all budgie!
Welcome welcome
Don't feel bad. I'm 63 and only heard of them about 6-7 years ago. Like finding lost treasure. Better late than never.
They're very underrated...but still kick ass. Peace out.

One of my favorite BUDGIE tracks 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
The riff change around 5.20 blows my mind .
brilliant
Tony's genius
what a band what a tune this band are so underrated it's untrue.challenge anyone to trawl through their catalogue see how many bands copied their brilliance quite a few
+mick Doyle They're probably the most underrated band ever
One of the finest hard rock albums of all times Ray Phillips drumming is beyond reproach! Excellent hard to believe that so much sound can come from 3 guys. But it does
I was astounded to find out tonight that they were a power trio... I was only listening to their music looking at album artworks, never knew how they looked like and I wanted to keep some of the mystery... surprise surprise BOOM... 3 fucking guys with this MASSIVE sound 🤣
Apparently they found the drummer through a newspaper ad that they posted. Nice
Nice
nice 👌
Most underrated over looked rock bands ever plus they were welsh.
WHAT IN THE 1971 and tower speakers is this..... Rock the shit out of those drummmmms
Love those DRUMS LOVE BUDGIE 💜🥁🔝
Ray Phillips’ (drums) last album with the band and he titled the album too. Stunning brutality !!!!!!!!!!! 🙏
Your favorite band's favorite band.
Why didn't Budgie go stratospheric? I just don't understand it. Far better than many, if not all, the mega popular metal bands. And the range of their tracks too. Not just head banging guitars on ped's, but also great ballads too.
For some reason they just didn't get the air play? Like aerosmith, led zepplin, queen etc? I just happen to have a radio station in spokane washington! That played budgie, and many other bands that weren't mainstream! The same bands you hear on the classic rock stations now! I've always thought budgie kicked those band butts! That I just mention their body of work stands up today? The problem a lot of people have never heard them! That's the problem their needs to be a radio station that plays their music and others?
crap label, MCA. So they played endlessly in small venues until nothing left.
@@brianbanks703
Yep, but don't think Budgie really cared about Stardom and riches.
Like BreadFan?
We few Budgieheads are lucky
Also (along with crap label and possibly not caring that much for fame), that was because they were from Cardiff, Wales. That sole fact made it more difficult for them than should've they had been from Scotland like (also half-forgotten) Nazareth, or Ireland like Thin Lizzy, let alone England like Zepp or Purple.
For a comparison, imagine your chances of getting to Formula 1 in early 1970s (assuming you were talented): A) being born in Milan, near Monza; B) being born in Siracusa, Sicily...
Shelly Burke said it once in an interview... They're a good traditional God loving Welsh band... They didn't sell out to the big record execs and their horny master...
good guitarist
Esto si era heavy metal de verdad el sonido vintage de esa epoca era el mejor no este sonido de hoy
New Year’s Eve, 1971, sitting in a circle around a turntable on the floor of some dudes house. I can’t remember how or why I was there, by myself With other longhairs, didn’t know anyone. We played albums til the Sun came up. Everyone was sharing whatever they had. Later we got some pizza’s. They next day I realized I needed people like this for friends, not the crummy friendsI’d been hanging around with. It was a new year, with a new realization. Met my Wife that year.
Best drum solo ever to start a song !!!
Excellent 🥁🎸💜🖤🔥
One and only Budgie
Never be any band like this again Burke's bass is so fat and always there
Legend of the bass
Rest in peace Burke and thankyou for all those heavy duty riffs that will live on forever
Beautiful musicality! Love every second of it..

Budgie com certeza foi uma das melhores bandas dos anos 70's. Talento e criatividade os caras tinham de sobra...Bandaça!
love tony bourge's singing towards the end of this
Burke Shelley was singing, not Tony Bourge
@Øyvind Wang I take it back, yes Tony starts singing at 5:40 you are correct
It's a great outro, for sure....
@@ScottHunterBooks Their voice was really different but had some similarities in some points. Like Tony's voice was a baritone of Burke's voice. Found it awesome. At first i thought it was Burke singing that part and "Heaven Knows our Name", when I found out it was Tony I just freaked out!
The Welsh version of cream !! Never gets old one of the best bass riffs in history
that bass
Super 🎸ok
I always thought the first part of this sounds like a steam locomotive struggling to the top of hill only to career down the other side. Great great band, Tony's riffing and soloing are fabulous, his vocals on the second half are an unexpected delight. He should have sung more songs. Goes to show, if you wanted to be a riff meister in the early 70's, better hope your name was Tony.
So that's Tony singing in the second part? I was wondering about that. Really good voice, he has a more pleasant tone than Burke
(whom I love but... well... )
The turnaround to the second (third if you include the drum solo) part of the song is so exciting, as good as Robin Trower's Too Rolling Stoned! :)
The outro to too rolling stoned is soooooooo good! I can't wait much longer by Robin Trower is another gem. Fuck most there songs are pretty great.
I saw Trower in a small town in southwestern Oregon around 2010....ish
Awesome show! Bridge of Sighs is the most haunting chord progression in all of Blues Rock.
love me some Robin Trower, I hope to see him live while he's still around... legendary... loved his album with Jack Bruce (from Cream) and also loved his 2010 album Playful Heart... classic and modern at the same time, brilliant
Seen them in 76,Caird Hall Dundee
Rush loved Budgie.
Can ya tell? Haha!
except the canadian hacks couldn't come up with any memorable melodies or harmonies to save their fucking lives 🤣they always sounded too robotic to me
Una de mis canciones favoritas de Budgie!
super bass!
I've been listening to this album since 1992. It never gets old. Every couple of years my friend (who discovered the album with me in college, and now lives in another state) and I have been trading the CD back and forth. I have the poster for the album cover framed on my wall, which once adorned our dorm room. This music not only takes me back, it rocks me in the here and now! Truly terrific piece of music, which so few people know about.
great band, watched them twice at the legendry TJ'S Newport south Wales. brilliant live
I live just up the road from what was TJs. Knew the owner, he used to run another pub called Langtons. Had the opportunity to see budgie in cardiff in 2006, but fell Ill . I really missed out. I have got into their music these last few years and think they are awesome.
HAHA the effects at the beginning, they were taking the piss out of it weren't they 🤣🤣brilliant

Music is awesome , album covers were shocking, till this people don't it's actual band called budgie ....the mighty budgie ! 🤙
If the Budgie album doesn't have a budgie album, its not good.
PS MOST WHO DIDN'T HAVE THIS ON VINYL DON'T KNOW THE 1ST 30 SECONDS OR 40 SEC'S OF BREADFAN HAS BEEN DELETED. IT OPENED WITH 'BIG BEN' CHIMING & THEN WINSTON CHURCHILL'S SPEECH SAYING "I HAVE NEVER PROMISED ANYTHING OTHER THAN BLOOD TEARS TOIL & SWEAT". i SO MISS THAT DUBBED INTO BREADFAN AT THE BEGINNING, IT SET THE TONE FOR THE ALBUM. ALSO THE SONG PARENTS IS SIMPLEY AWESOME :)

I think using capitals to alert someone they hit caps lock & 'a' letter simultaneously is rather like chopping down a tree next to a tree chopped down & calving on the 1st tree, I chopped down the tree next to the tree you chopped down because I don't like the fact that you chopped down a tree :)
Please troll someone else now as you have used capslack every word you wrote by intent. Go play Within You Without You man you missed the whole message. Then play 'Let It Be' 14x message & mother Mary will come to you whispering words of wisdom Let It Be.
You need to take Lucy to take the Skies Diamonds to understand Sgt. Peppers. If you did understand your user name you wouldn't use caps to alert someone to the fact that they did. Or do you believe in an eye for an eye till the whole world is blind?? Get a life man- lighten up lamo
