We were all hoping, I am sure, that Burke would return to live performing, but very sadly this was not to be. My sincere condolences go out to Burke's family in this very sad moment. the opening was stolen or 'influenced GnR Paradise City. I've been listening to rock and thought I did some deep dives in my early days back in the 80s when I was first discovouring it all and I completely missed Budgie. Once you hear them, you see their influence across dozens of bands.
I'm a die hard sabbath, zeppelin and floyd fan in my opinion the holy trinity. I'm ashamed to say I never even heard of budgie until yesterday, I'm literally blown away they are amazing, right up there with 70's sabbath.

Misery Shows, Act II... if you make it through the second guitar solo without hearing Jimmy Page and David Gilmour in the guitars then I have lived MY life in vain.....

Burke once stood in for Snatch It Back's frontman Chris for a few months when he'd lost his voice. So just playing pub gigs and evidently loving it; he was so at ease with an audience of any size, having a laugh and a joke and rocking the roof off the place. More than just a gentleman, a true rocker for whom the music was the thing. It was a real privilege to have witnessed those small gigs mostly at the Royal Oak, full of bikers and seen him up close.
Yes, I saw Budgie many, many times at the Croydon Greyhound on a Sunday night. Between the years 1972-1976. Some nights it was packed but some nights we could sit on the front of the stage and just let them blow our ears to pieces. It took 3 days before the ringing stopped but oh man did we have a great time. Had many a beer with Tony Bourge and burke. Burke used to tell us his favourite band was the carpenters but I never knew if he was pulling our plonker or not. We saw Thin lizzy too on the same stage many times and they played even louder. Strangly enough I can still hear perfectly.
Fox at the Greyhound on a Sunday night - those were they days. I remember the infamous Golden Earing gig when the band pulled out because the stage was too small, and they put on a heavy rock disco instead.
Did the same with Nik Turnet, ex-Hawkwind at the Swan in Bolton as a callow youth in 1980 stood next to the speaker, was deaf for three days. Happy days, done it innumerable times since, no hearing loss, great tune tho Parents is my favourite...
Thank you gentlemen for your memories. I'm going to have to look if they ever came over to Texas. I got a dollar that says they did. I'm envious of y'all. Ha

Budgie brought me here. I was in a garage band that practiced in an old pig shed on a mates family’s farm. We used to do this song. I think we did it justice. Our lead guitarist went on to play in many bands and makes a living as a session musician to this day. Our singer had lost two fingers in a motorbike crash and his voice really suited this song. Our drummer went on to die in a horrific industrial accident. I still have some tapes of us rehearsing. We were called Virgin Blood. We did a version of this long before Metallica.
You should post your cover of this song on here. I was in a local Atlanta rock and roll band in 90'-91 and I found someone that had a cassette of our release recently (I had nothing of it) and I was surprised how well it had aged. 1-2 guitars, a bass, a drummer and a singer playing rock 'n roll will always age better than electronic music, rap or radio pop or pop country will. Budgie released this song when I was a little kid, but I was a teenager when Metallica covered this in '87, hard to believe it was only 14 years between the original and the cover, but 23 years since the cover! We don't really think of rock bands as being able to swing, but Budgie were that rare exception. They were so tight and locked in they were more like a jazz trio, effortlessly able to move and change shapes mid song without even a flicker.
My Band had the pleasure of supporting Budgie a few times in the 70s was instantly impressed with their songwriting abilities and incredible musicality. Watched then from the side of the stage playing parents, bread fan, In the grip of the tyre fitters hand, etc. Will always remember those days with great affection.

and to this day no one has been able to wipe that self-congratulatory smile off his face knowing that he owns one of the greatest riffs in Rock history.
My buddy just literally introduced me to this band and this song. Crushing shame they weren’t as known as all the other mainstream rock bands. My buddy was telling me to also listen to Budgie’s whole album called Impecable. Amazing music.
I thought that was Janice Joplin there for a minute! How in the world have I not ever heard this! How was this not the biggest band in the world?! Unreal!
Man that is just so good, it amazes me just how much music transcends through time. This is as good today, if not better, cos we realise what we had, what we are losing. Hands off AI, leave the arts alone. Thanks legends for this gold
I chose them as part of a seven song/four band (some bands had more than one song) for a compilation album for limited distribution to FM radio two years before their debut album. I was close with Dave who engineered their first release so I got to pop in on the recording sessions.
Had the utmost pleasure of seeing them live a number of times. The last time in Wrexham 2002, when I met them all backstage, and they signed an old picture disc I had. All gentleman. Burke was criminally overlooked in rock history, but when bands like sabbath and Metallica quite them as influential then that tells you how good they were. RIP Burke, a true legend
This is one of those riffs that defined the "heavy metal" sound man, not to mention one of the one's that made me want to play guitar. Freaking pioneers of heavy, these guys. So underrated. RIP Burke!
I was in my late teens and 20's when Budgie was at their pinnacle in the seventies. From that time to the present, I have owned or still own several thousand albums. I don't keep track, but I can say with almost certainty that this band has received more plays from my collection than any other during my lifetime I have some fine memories of rocking out to two of my favorites, "Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman" and this tune during metals early days.
Came here as my two teenage kids were asking what I was playing on my old nylon string, so I had to show them. Didn’t know Burke Shelley passed until I read these comments. Burke, you and the boys just reached the musical minds of 3 generations. Cheers to you, Sir. RIP. ❤️🤟
the first band i ever saw live. it was 1970 and they were booked to play at our school's Christmas dance, for those of us who were 15 and over. i still wonder if the school's headmaster knew exactly what he was getting. great night, headbanging, and kissing the girls. lovely

So happy to discover them.
Just heard the sad news! This is the first song I ever heard by Budgie and was hooked. Massive fan from 1981. RIP Burke.
We don't really think of rock bands as being able to swing, but Budgie were that rare exception. They were so tight and locked in they were more like a jazz trio, effortlessly able to move and change shapes mid song without even a flicker.
probably the most underrated band ever, awesome live, saw 'em 3 times, bloody brilliant!
And that kids is how it used to be done...........Talent , attitude and creativity. Absolutely incredible ............. Long Live Rock and Roll
Testify
Kudos to all the teens of the 70s who would find and support bands like budgie, and the record companies who signed these talented niche bands.
Heard this song for the first time today. My head just exploded. Epic!!!
lol... enjoy 4 the rest of your life..cheers
Me too
You said it !!
I grew up with your voice, thank you for the music you gave to the world, go in peace John Burke Shelley

I'm 45 years late to the Budgie party.
Ditto
45 years late for a Budgie party, you're too early, Try and listen to Man
Better late than never
Ha I ignored them in the early seventies. Shame on me 😔
So am I. Better late than never.
All three of them at the top of their game. Brilliant!
Important song to us, back in the day. Still rocks, now.
Nice upload, thanks.
RIP Burke, you beautiful man!! Thank you for the music

This was one of my dad's favorite songs, i used to lend my phone and headset to him so he could break down crying because these songs took him back to his teenage years.

I was lucky enough to see this band play live back in the late 70’s/early 80’s and lucky enough to live only a few miles down the valley from them. Massively underrated band.
wow where
@@zagrockstrum I live in Blackwood South Wales, saw them play in several local clubs,. It was a shame they were never given the break they deserved.
My old boy used to play this track on repeat on cassette when I was a kid, love it more then ever. Rip
It's so amazing... Rock of 70th sounds so good and fresh! Regards from Russia! God gave us rock'n'roll!
Hey Russia! Rock on broski!
Rest in peace Burke. Going to be cranking your songs all day now. Legendary singer and musician.
Rest In Peace! May the rest of the world know your glory!
Trzy osoby!!!

One of the greatest bands of all time. Could keep to the likes of Rush, Sabbath, Motörhead, Priest, Yes and other bands influenced by them all at the same time during their career...
R.I.P. Burke Shelley. Great, underated player and singer. He will be missed!🎵🎤
Nothing underrated about these guys
RIP Burke Shelly, with thanks for decades in which to enjoy your music 🎶
Budgie were among my earliest rock heroes. Am shattered at the news of Burke recently passing away. RIP and thank you so so much for all the endless pleasure you have given me over the years
what a loss, goodbye Burke Shelley you gave us so many great memories with your music
It,s like watching the same chemistry as Geddy and Alex!!!
Cheers, Bernie
Only a few decades BEFORE
@@PhilK005 .. Exactly Phil!!!
and to this day no one has been able to wipe that self-congratulatory smile off his face knowing that he owns one of the greatest riffs in Rock history.
Saw them in Adelaide a decade (or more?) ago & he was still smiling...
Agreed
REAL PRO MUSICIANS !!!!!! WHAT A JAMMIN SONG !!!!
My buddy just literally introduced me to this band and this song. Crushing shame they weren’t as known as all the other mainstream rock bands. My buddy was telling me to also listen to Budgie’s whole album called Impecable. Amazing music.
RIP Burke Shelly
A Absolute Legend!
Blast Some Budgie in his honor!!
Yes Partner do blast some Budgie out ! You are Absolutely right.Burke Shelly is gone but his music and Legacy will live on Forever.
@@jimmywooten7751 Hell Yeah dude!! A Legend definitely his legacy of Great Music and albums will Live on! Blast some Budgie Dude!!
I thought that was Janice Joplin there for a minute! How in the world have I not ever heard this! How was this not the biggest band in the world?! Unreal!
Lol I'm not the only one that thinks the frontman looks like her with glasses. He does have a feminine vibe but I love it.
Man that is just so good, it amazes me just how much music transcends through time. This is as good today, if not better, cos we realise what we had, what we are losing. Hands off AI, leave the arts alone.
Thanks legends for this gold
I was among the few Americans who recognized the quality of Budgie.
I chose them as part of a seven song/four band (some bands had more than one song) for a compilation album for limited distribution to FM radio two years before their debut album. I was close with Dave who engineered their first release so I got to pop in on the recording sessions.
R.I.P. Burke it sucks that I just got into your band like a couple of months before your passing you rock dude!!
@@Kthuluu I just checked that album out and HOLY CRAP what POWER!!!!
"How many times should we play the opening riff? 128?"...."Nah, double it!"
Well when the riff is just that good, you can play it over and over
@@arcwiz It is my phone ringtone
My alarm ringtone as well

RIP Burke Shelley. Great voice, great frontman, great band, and this is a great song.
Saw them at Cheltenham town hall , played bread for 15 mins .
Stood at the front , couldn't hear for a week , happy days .
Well I’m a Zeppelin fan since the 70’a and I don’t remember these guys until a friend of mine sent it to me tonight . They were great. 👍
I'm gonna tell my kids this is RUSH.
Ha!! Burke Shelley does sound like Geddy Lee.
@@TealScarab and looks a bit the same too
Bloody sacrilege!!!!!!! There is only two types of folks in the world, those who love Rush and those who are wrong.
@@NyeGuy-yv2dv Power trio heaven in both cases.
haha, how did I manage to follow you here from Diamond Head exactly one week later.
Definitely the most underrated metal band bar none! Their first four albums were way ahead of their time and influenced countless metal bands to come.
RIP Burke!
So true.
Simply the best, you can see how so many bands were influenced by the most under rated band
sad they didn't blow up
I was in my late teens and 20's when Budgie was at their pinnacle in the seventies.
RIP. ❤️🤟
OMG. I Just discovered this band. Amazing! I can't stop playing them!
Rest in peace John, thank you for the great tunes over the decades my Welsh brother
✊🏴🖤
the first band i ever saw live. it was 1970 and they were booked to play at our school's Christmas dance, for those of us who were 15 and over. i still wonder if the school's headmaster knew exactly what he was getting. great night, headbanging, and kissing the girls. lovely
Bet that was better than most School dances in the last century , lol
My friends covered Master of Puppets at a school talent show about 20 years ago this was in a small farm town many of the religious ladies were not to impressed 🤷🏻♂️🤣
@@MClover420 it was great
Heavy, I would have been high back then somehow
I just heard this on WRMI shortwave radio.
My God I got up out my sleep. One best rock songs ever. One of top. That for sure. I'm keeping this one listen too. Hey I was little boy grew up this kind on radio. Awesome.
First heard this 45 years ago got the album"never turn your back on a friend"
Class is class
Truly Killed it! So much metal so ahead of its time! An all time classic
I mean that as an absolute compliment
Love the smirk on Tony Bourge's face - the look of a guy who knows just how good he is on lead guitar. Love this song.
I´m 60+ "found" Budgie, before my friends.. ;-) Got all there vinyl, and are a big part of my rotation playlist, listening to all the great music from, 50 ties and beyond.. i got 5 older siblings, and listen to a lot of great music, and Budgie is in top 10..Who ever died from what ever band, u all rest in peace...
66 and I'm in love with you
Saw them do this live in a night club in Doncaster town centre, the place was packed out, the sound system sounded excellent, a memory that never fades, thanks for uploading.
