The video's here!! Yeah...I should have played a practice match or two before committing to Von Bolt for this map. Even before realizing the map was designed to harm the wheelchair-bound elderly, I was already feeling the pressure of Max in his element on a mixed-base map. Looking back, I also think my opening Neotank build was an awful idea that ended up hampering my long-term map presence since I ended my capture phase too early. Still, it was a really fun game, looking forward to facing you in some future global league matches!
I love seeing how much this community is full of good sports, it makes me smile to see, so kudos to you for both having fun with the match even losing, and for being able to enjoy re-watching the match too!
I think if I were to re-select my CO I still would have chosen Max over Adder personally. I value the firepower boost on his day-to-day over being able to use his powers more often, and on a large high funds map like this I feel like Max charges up his powers almost as quickly as Adder. That's not to say Adder is unplayable - I would have chosen him even over Von Bolt in retrospect - just that he would be at a disadvantage against Max too.

Haven't watched the match yet, but my guess on why Von Bolt is bad here: -The starting comm tower will basically negate his defense bonus against a CO who has an attack bonus on the most viable units for this map. -Von Bolt has no movement abilities (which is vital on a map this large), while Max does. -Those Black Boats can draw his SCOP pretty easily. Even after you've thrown Bombers and Neotanks into the mix, just add a few units to the Black Boat cluster and they'll soak up his SCOP every time. Then they can repair themselves to do it again and again.

Troll Master here, remember me? I actually picked Grit here and faced Max. I understood Grit is pretty bad on this map but I was on a quest to win this tournament with just Grit. Let's just say the match did not go very well for me. I could've played much better but still it was very rough. Max is really strong here with his movement and firepower. I am guessing Zon Bolt is bad because of all the open space allowing you to keep your units spread out weakening his rockets, if not I suppose there's enough terrain to take advantage of means you can ignore his minor attack boost.

Von Bolt's ability is based off of greatest cost-value of the damage it will deal I believe, so it is heavily weakened by maps with predeployed-expensive transport ships.
My guess on Von Bolt being bad: You can put your four black boats together for a nice 28k lightning rod. Besides that, direct units will rule on this map, infantry fights will be less common. Max has better directs than Von Bolt because his powers give him not only a lot of firepower, but also movement, which is very important on a huge mixed base map like this.
i don't know why ppl say base skipping is bad, i counted income per turn when mangs was skipping city for airport, and after 4 turns u have same income, no matter if u skip or not. I can see that in low income match it can be worse, but here he can have bcopters faster and not loose that much on income in the long run
I think the only thing Von Bolt could do on this map is rushing your HQ immediately. Whether the Ex Machina hits the black boats or not wouldn't matter, because they would be crucial in forming a wall. But even then Max would still be superior, because he can break through with much cheaper powers.
You say that Zerglinstew had to pop immediatly his CO power, even knowing that you countered it with your blackboats, but why? What if he held on to it? The mere threat of his CO power may have forced you to play at a disadvantage, am I wrong? Keep up with the good content Mangs, thanks!

I just want to put my prediction out here, at the 5:43 mark, for why Von Bolt is a bad pick. I think the map is too spread out with too many fronts, so his Ex Machina is heavily ineffective here. All you have to do is spread out the turn it's to be activated and it will only hit a couple of your units, and with high funds it would be really easy to bait it into hitting a sacrificial neotank way off the beaten path or something.
Ya those black boats and the fact that there is going to be A LOT of units on this map with all these bases and high funds. a little square of units not acting isn't going to be much against 40 max units max forcing or blasting.
I'm at the "take a look at the map and take a guess why VB is trash on this map", and, if you're telling me to take a look I'm guessing the answer is apparent at that particular time, so my guess is, the boats. The boats can move and gather to create a high value zone which I'm guessing baits out VB's power, right? Edit: 24:57 ok so I was right lol, I'll be honest it would have probably gone over my head if not for your hint at the beginning, but this is definitely a brilliant way to take a weapon out of his toolbox, good thinking!
awesome game! I do think it would be better if you could be more illusive with who wins during the commentating! Obviously towards the end it becomes clear that you're going to win, but keeping it a secret for as long as possible does make it more entertaining. Love the content!
Best guess on why Bolt is bad is 2 reasons. 1 is 2 commtowrrs just mean is harder to wall and the second reason is it is a huge map where copters basically 1 shot each other so defence is not as useful
I would love to play more competitive games or in tournaments. But I can’t fathom why the default minimum turn timers are so long. It’s like they want the game to be played at this snail-pace over the course of weeks.
Its that long because its kinda the point of the site. Even if you only have time to play 1 day a week, you can play a proper match of advanced wars PvP. Still, you can have several games going at once if you have the time and brain power for it.
@@Santisima_Trinidad personally looking forward to the reboot camp were nintendo inevitably drops the ball and every game is decided by a disconnect or timer 🤣 They should basically have each game be a save file sent from one player to the other at the end of each turn but they won't do that!
@@jacobs483 the start of bassically every introduction to AWBW video. It's a turn based strategy game, you might as well play over a long period of time, properly think through your moves. Like doing chess by letters in the 1800s. If you want fast paced competitive play go for starcraft.

I think adder would have been useful for this map. His movement power lets you bring your numbers into play to overwhelm that 20%

Without even seeing the video: The big flaw of this map is that Ex Machina will target blackboard instead of the Strong sides.

Multiple games is an option (5 at a time in global league - not sure of the total amount allowed at a time though)
