If a 1st you don't succeed... Just keep trying till it boots up properly? Bit an annoying faff, so will a simple new HDD replacement fix this? I already backed everything up.
Dang it! Thanks for your replies on this as it kind of confirms I should not bother with buying and trying a new HDD on this... If the reboot-till-it-works trick starts failing us, we'll have to buy a new slim one.
Mine died in the fall of 2013 I did some research and found out that for most ppl this model only lasted 3-4years before burning out did you keep your system blown out? I found out too little too late that the blowing out features for the vents can keep the system going for a while longer. .. That is what I get for not reading the instructions. ..
Yeah I can be the nec token but it really does depend on the problem it can be the CPU/gpu , if you watch rips documentary on the YLOD you should get the info you need
Okay you have 2 options. 1. You have to get rid of it, and buy a new one. 2. Buy a torx t10 screwdriver, a philips screwdriver, some compound paste, and last a heat gun. If you choose option 2 get ready for some work
Yeah, its the yellow light of death. It happens on the older models more than then newer ones. The only way to really fix it, is to open it and and reapply the thermal paste. I fixed mines that way on my 'phat' PS3 and its running like champ. The issue is that when Sony made the original 'phat' PS3, is that the cooling in it wasn't great, and so after long use of play, the thermal paste wears out and it starts to not really do its job. So your only real option if you do want to fix it, is either get thermal compound off Amazon or your local electronic store, you'll also need a heat gun too. There are tons of guides on UA-cam, so it's easy, I did it without any trouble. Nerve racking, but it works in the end. And the other option is to transfer the data onto the Slim PS3. Those have little to no failure rate and they run quiet.
I have the same problem but when I go into safe mode and I restart system it stays on for really long but when I go in a game it turns of which is fucking annoying I checked the thermal paste and it looks like shit but I cleaned all the dust out of it and it’s still the same
In most cases, you can get thermal paste and put it on the thermal pads and it'll work. That wasn't the case with my old PS3 though. On another note, what's your PSN?
The Fat model of the PS3 will have heat issues after some time. I had the same problem with mine and had to rip it apart to re-flow the main board of my PS3.. It can be fixed but needs to done correct or it will happen again.
2Old4Toys I can tell you that It was the first time I ripped apart my PS3 also when I had to do it with no experience before hand. It will take some time, I did in a day watching YT vids on how to rip it apart. It crashed on me again in 2 months and had to re-flow the board again to get my game disc out. I just bought a new slim after as they don't have that issue as much and the old fat PS3. I have heard that re-flowing it more then 3 times will kill the board thast why I bought a new one as I did twice already. I also did the bad way so too. If you do get a new PS3 I recommend getting the old one to work and doing a system back so you can transfer all the data to the new PS3. If you have a big HDD on the PS3 it can take a day to transfer the data to a external HDD and another to transfer it back to the new one. I have done it with 4 PS3 so I know, its not hadr to do just time consuming.
The red light means either a problem with the graphics chip or the hard drive. It may just be a lose connection, seeing as it turned on when you lifted the console slightly. Maybe you could try positioning the console vertically and see if the issue still occurs. Perhaps the hard drive just needs to be reconnected or replaced.
PS3: fuck it im not going to let you play *shows YLOD* Guy: *tries again, and again...* PS3: i said something... fuck it i will let you play this time...
just go out and buy a ps3 slim they are pretty cheap now and always gunna be better than gen 1 ps3 also junior is right, ps4 is too new and doesent have enough games out yet to warrent buying it yet, in my oppinion anyway.

I've done that so many times but it will happen again when you're playing a game or a movie dvd
It’s cause by kept turning it on u recharged the nec capacitors

Beep. Pause. Beep Beep Beep. You're ps3 is officially cooked.
You could probably try and towel trick it, or maybe take out the hard drive, buy a slim, and put your hard drive in the slim and your data is saved.

U need to take out the hard drive and turn it upside down blow a hairdryer at the back for 15 mins then blow a cold fan at the same area for 40mins
I have a ps3 super slim having the blod (black light of death
...this is why i swapped my SECOND HAND phat unit to a SECOND HAND slim.
Years later still going!
No light after the green one
You need to heat it up or put new thermo past
PS3 YLOD Fix Part 1 of 3 pretty straight forward

YLOD起こしたらほぼ治らない(修理業者なら治る)のでこれは下手したら漬物石になる()
My brother got it fixed for 40
I have no clue...good luck my friend
bs
Mike Blais I swear... it still works for our PS3. An annoyance but better than buying a replacement right now.
ps4 works with ps3 games, might as well scrap it or sell it.
The PS4 is not backwards compatible with PS3 games.
@@CommanderZx2 not even the PS5 can play ps3 games which makes no sense. The Series X can play some OGXBOX and 360 games
