Heat guns can not reach the temperatures needed for a reflow. Even if they could a reflow would not fix the issue. The yellow light of death means general hardware failure and could be a number of different things. You can read the syscon error codes to get a better idea of what the specific problem is. The most common problem is a the GPU itself dying due to a design flaw in the original 90nm RSX GPU, the only fix for this is to replace it with the 40nm found in the slim ps3.
I agree that the best way to find out the problem is using SYSCON but, most YLOD issues are caused by a bad GPU/CPU or solder issues under the chips. Thanks for your comment :)

Please take this video down and do a proper ylod repair guide by doing a syscon diagnosis and seeing the error codes, if you can't fix the console so be it, but don't say a heat gun is the guarenteed fix for ylod because like many people here will say to you, IT IS NOT!!!

@@mrnoodle3777 a heat gun is physically incapable of actually reflowing a gpu. At most you are just heating a chip, fixing a bumpgate defect and it is only a bandaid fix. The chip replacement is really the only true fix for the YLOD due to GPU Failure or 3034 in the syscon logs. There is no other easy way around it. The bumps that break inside the chip melt at 300c and before you melt those you would destroy the board so it isn’t possible.

i buy it on 2007 new and runs fine.. on 2014 i did clening inside and new themo paste and on 2023 i do same thing clean from inside and new themopaste again and runs great
So I take that with this unit the CPU and GPU did not fry when it got the YLD.? My unit had that happen to it so no repair center near me can repair it 😢

@@twowheeleddaydreams4291 It is usually a yellow light which flashes once and then goes red along with three bleeps. But ask the seller to confirm if it is not clear. Also only buy consoles that have the warranty sticker unbroken - buying an opened console is asking for additional problems.

@fasttechvideo I guess if you used flux it would just get blown around the board. Unless you taped around the solder balls to keep it in place. Also I would assume it would be best to do the reflow first, you wouldn't want to be putting the heat gun on brand new paste that's been put on the chips.

Any tips with the GLOD? whenever I turn on my ps3 A01 console, it stays on but no sound or display on the screen, and it does not allow me to turn it off with the power button. I can only turn it off from the switch in the back

Needs a new RSX. You're not getting anywhere near the heat req'd to fix the problem. Heat gun is temporary until the bumps lose connection again, then you're screwed. You've already damaged the RSX.

As far as im aware it can be 100 things to cause YLOD, i got from a lot with supposedly defect consoles ( half of them came out to work just fine) but the only PS3 is a CECH and guy states its not his but he has bought it with YLOD and thinks its the PSU but he says that PSU from other PS3 dont match which im highly doubthful, do you know which power supply are direct plug and play for CECHC model? Or supposedly why PSU would cause a ylod,is it caps or something.

fun little fact if that doesnt work it could be a failed gpu. worse case scenario ofcourse but u can install a 40 nm gpu from a slim and fallow a guide on the internet and boom its fixed slightly more time consuming. but as i said worse case scenario. also it could also be the ram chips but those are due to way too much heat and such. so the gpu wouldve failed by then or other chips wouldve failed by then.
Yes you are right, reflow is not a permanent fix, that’s wishful thinking, for permanent fix both a (reballing for the BGA, AND use of eutectic bump for the die), or if they keep using the high-led bumps they should have changed the undfilling to a high Tg underfill instead of the Namics 8439-1, which they did withe the late versions of slim and super slim, truth to be told, they build it wrong, the most important variant \model of the ps3 😢 It was a faulty manufacturing standard at the time that effected Xbox, Play Station, Toshiba laptops and other like Nvidia GTX cards 6000, 7000 and some early 9000 series Knowing this now, that heat did something there, but since the under-filling is the same for those high-led bumps, it will give you YLOD again soon

No it's not a good Idea, the ps3 and other consoles have their cooling designed very very SPECIFICALLY to work with the airflow it has. Look up the video on youtube on ylod on ps3, it's an hour or longer :). Don't ever do that ur gonna ruin whatever console you have by doing it!
I really live the videos however the constant plugging of products makes it really hard to follow along. like explain everything that you are doing and once your done doing that then plug your products. don't plug them mid explanation. also slow down some so people can digest what you said. talking nonstop makes information go in one ear and out the other. I do really enjoy the videos but they're just so hard to digest because the constant talking with little pause and the relentless plugging. well still buy your products even if you plug them only twice in a video.

Good. My a01 had been running since 2006 until recently when it broke due to a ‘mistake that was made’

is there any method to get that blue screw out on the hard drive once stripped? Im trying different bits and its not working.
Use a Dremel to make it a flathead or drill through it in the middle
you can also use an elastic to create tension to get the screw out if you don't have the other tools
Also do you know how to test the nec tokins with a multimeter while on board?

Yes in most cases this is because of a dead GPU. It could be caused by other things but mostly its a RSX problem.

You need to do a full DE-LID and thermal paste replacement. Check out our DELID PS3 video on this channel

there are other such things in the whole video, you may feel they are small things, but for us normal people it would make a whole lot of difference.

No it's not a good Idea, the ps3 and other consoles have their cooling designed very very SPECIFICALLY to work with the airflow it has. Look up the video on youtube on ylod on ps3, it's an hour or longer :). Don't ever do that ur gonna ruin whatever console you have by doing it!

I really live the videos however the constant plugging of products makes it really hard to follow along. like explain everything that you are doing and once your done doing that then plug your products. don't plug them mid explanation. also slow down some so people can digest what you said. talking nonstop makes information go in one ear and out the other. I do really enjoy the videos but they're just so hard to digest because the constant talking with little pause and the relentless plugging. well still buy your products even if you plug them only twice in a video.

yet you know what is funny you no longer need s backwards compatable ps3 i jailbreak my 2ng gen nonbackwards compatable ps3 phat 80gb never played ps2 games but now since i cfw it with hen cfw i can play ps2 games plus this is a temporary fix not a permante fix i tryed this sadly RIP too my ps3 phat i try this like so many times before it go up on my shelf for display
