Can you guys put this up blind against a good Glendronach and Glengoyne? It would be great to see the quality of the liquid objectively up against some others.
Just bought my bottle…been looking for a long time for this bottle. Can’t wait to get it and try it. Thank you for your review. Helped me in y buying decision 💯
Thank you for this review. I have been drinking macallan since the 1970's and it is my favourite whiskey. I still have an unopened bottle of 1976 18year old bottle. A whiskey trader offered me £2000 for it which I declined. I have been buying the 18 year old ever since . It's a brilliant taste nice and peaty and woodey.
We were very lucky and privileged to be able to not only sample this, but then to share every remaining drop with our subscribers! It was an experience we'll never forget! ~Mark
Hey guys, glad you like(d) it so much! Regarding the quality-comparison with Glendronach/Glengyone 21 or some older single cask cask strength bottlings I actually regard it as an encouragement that this quality can be achieved way more inexpensively. Perhaps - and I don't know if other Macallans/others have been (even) better in the past - it also shows that there is an end to what our senses can taste/appreciate. Plus, it's good to know there are different styles of whisky that can reach the top of the mountain. One more thing regarding the cooperage and casks selected. Judging from the 43% abv and the 20 years of age (and 21yo Glendronach single casks as reference), taking a very conservative approach Macallan only had to use two sherry butts to produce 750 bottles. :-)
Yup seems like the perfect sherry scotch. Depend on what you're saying. Let's compared it to Glengoyne 25, who's 1/5 of the price. I'm really curious about your opinion.
I think the telling comment was saying a 5,000 bottle "stood up to" a couple 200$ bottles (Canadian $). Why would I go from reasonable prices for special event Scoch to "first car/some peoples house down payment". I think this needs a flavor that is unlike anything existing for that price. Would scotch tycoons ever actually reach for this when dropping thousands? Or is MacAllen becoming the next Johnny Walker where people see the money first and taste second.
Oh I remember saying that and thinking the same thing. I honestly think all Mac's are overpriced, but of course this one is targeting a different class of scotch drinker for sure. To cut the price a little explanation, the crystal decanter is worth close to $2k and the box is made of corian! The one thing I could say is if you paid for this you got good scotch. Now personally, there isn't a scotch out there that I would say is worth this kind of price, but that's my financial status. If I had disposable income where the price didn't matter....maybe, but let's be real...for $4k I expect life changing and ain't no scotch gonna change my life...hahah!! ~Mark
One cannot ignore the effect that having a bottle of that price in front of them has when it comes to establishing a score. If I'm reading body language and tone here, I'd say you were a tad underwhelmed with this scotch. I've seen past 4444 reviews and every one of you were far more passionate about those scotches than this one.
I could imagine you are more exited, if you are pleasantly surprised. This one set the bar of expectations so high they might've been just relieved it did not fail. Just imagine No. 6 got them a 2-2.5...so much inner fury. ;-)
15-50% higher than in the USA, I believe. Not a big choice either. Just some mass market brands. And keep it in mind that the av. monthly salary is something like $500. All boozes are more expensive but vodkas. Vodkas, even very high quality vodkas here are very cheap. Too bad vodka is Not my cup of tea ))
That ain't true Jimmy.... I really went into this looking for something to knock it for...minus the price because the price is stupid on this bottle..... I mean if I have to take that into consideration I'd not be reviewing it! Anyhow, I wanted to knock it for the 43% ABV, but couldn't because it drank wonderfully....I hoped I'd get that sulfur nose that I commonly get in Macs...but it wasn't there...Now I know this is all subjective and everyone is influenced or biased by something, but I did try to be as honest with this as I could and I believe my fellow dummies did too....Anyhow, thanks for watching and commenting!! ~Mark
Nice review. Yes, I believe it tastes like a 4 out of 4. The whole thing is a peace of art and art can cost lots of money as we know ;). From my point of view, its just a crazy price for a "maybe 20 years" old first fill sherry. I got the Glenglassaugh 30 Sherry 42% as a gift(300$) and I dont think after watching your review the Macallan comes near it, which makes me very happy! Your performance was a 4 out of 4, thank you :)
Awesome review fellas. I am so envious of this bottle, I look forward to hopefully trying this one day. This is a review that you will not see that many of, mainly because of the price and availability. I'm a up-and-coming reviewer myself (Drams on Deck) and the most rare macallan product that I have reviewed is the Macallan Edition 1. What state are you guys located, you seem to get good prices on spirits?
Looking forward to the premiere guys. Not one I would personally buy if i had 3K to spend on a bottle of whisky unless I had more money than I could ever spend. That said it will be a great tasting whisky for sure.Just wondering what you plan on doing with the decanter when you eventually finish the bottle, keep or sell?
I feel like the Mac 6 should have it's own scoring system. You guy's can't score this with the same numbers as a Spey Fumare (No disrespect to the Spey, I'm buying it this Friday) 😄😄😄😄 But I'm just saying ... Its a Macallan 6 😅😅😅😅
Huge congrats on the 200th review. Love your channel. One thing you might want to consider is leaving price/value out of your ratings. This always confuses me. I have seen you mark down some poor hard working distilleries product for being $120 when you thought $100 would be more like it. Then you come to this Macallan and totally leave price/value out of the picture! It would be more fair, and in my opinion better if you just reviewed whiskies, rated on taste smell and finish. Then you could of course talk about price/value separately. I know on every day scotches it is hard to separate value from the review. But the fact is we can’t taste and smell what you are tasting and smelling, but we can draw our own conclusions about value. Something to think about.
Makes the Mac 18 seem like a bums' choice huh? The Lalique is half the value, the name and the packaging another 1/3 so a Mac 25 would be a better value and I never thought I would utter those words.
Won't argue that! Personally, I would say that about any spirit at that price. But, that's just because that price is so far out of my personal budget. I mean at that cost it better change my life... LOL ~Mark
In your other reviews do you take price into the equation? I think you have back yourself into a corner with this review. Was it really any better than one of the great sherry bombs that are out the. What gets me is there’s nothing on this one to say unchilled filtered. Why did you not pour and let it breathe first. I do enjoy your reviews. But I think you did this one all wrong.
Not sure why the cost hasn’t been taken into account like all other reviews you guys do. Let’s face it, you guys know your way around whisky... this bottle is terrible value for money. You could buy so many bucket list whiskies instead of this. Congratulations on 200 reviews!

Elijah Ammon the price surely doesn’t justify the difference
@7:15 the joy of the fella on the left!!
You just have to take into account the decanter when considering the 'price' That there is Lalique and stand alone empty its worth a lot of money :)
