Look at the frequency of Private Eye for instance - still lots of sales 25 years later - and a lot have been consumed unlike the Edition bottles. I'm not interested in such volatile pricing for Macallan whiskey, so, I don't particularly look for it. I do see that the pricing is higher than the competition which is why when the product is available it stays on the shelves a hell of a lot longer.
Forget about the investment. I bought and opened the bottle no.6 and it is one of the best NAS whisky that I have tried. Orange and chocolate with very typical macallan oak taste. Highly recommended to try!

Hi - yes - I think they are grossly overpriced, but not as much as the Folio bottles are. If you look at the reviews of Edition 6 (take a look at the recent Whisky Fun review as this was based on this exact bottle :) ) it is a good drinker :)

I’ve played safe by buying two bottles of each release (with the exception of edition 1) - one to drink and one to keep. If the ‘keep’ bottles don’t increase in price, I get to drink them ;-)
We have to encourage the other collector's to open their bottles in the near future. Maybe we will see another increase of hammer prices in a few years.
Give it some time for the price of edition 2 to 6 to catch up. I agree that a certain amount of bottles are locked away in collector's stash but as time passes, it will get harder and harder to find. In my area (Toronto), Edition no.6 was released in January 2021, and people are still looking for them months later. If it doesn't go up, an excuse to crack one open and drink it.

@@russelt8559 When Edition no.1 was released, alot of people ( not all), overlooked it so it didn't sell too well ( plus the number of bottles produced was far less than the other editions). I recall it was only available in Taiwan and US. Upon release, Edition 2 was more widely available globally but some are already consumed for sure thus incrementally increasing the value. All we need are bidders bidding up the price in auction. My cousin told me in China they're selling Edition no.6 for £226 a bottle retail..
@@Adrian802 I was one of the ppl who laughed at Macallan when Ed1 was released. I laughed until I tasted 2 bottles...Ed1 is e closest to the banned Sherry Wood (Virgin forest oak tree in Jerez, Spain)

Can't follow your reasoning at all. I've been dealing with whisky for over 10 years and think these bottles are a great investment. If you send me a set of the six for 2000 pounds, I'd make an easy 1000 pound profit on ebay in Germany ! I expect the bottles to increase from now on because that's it - no more. I think that people did drink a lot of the bottles already (90 pounds is not so much, and they were tasty). In any case, I expect the editions 2-6 to increase to between 500 and 800 pounds (edition 2 already is 400 pounds). This is just by looking at the (NAS) edition 1 already selling for 1300 pounds. Edition 6 should increase in value rapidly because several countries didn't receive any bottles at all (for example Cyprus). Maybe edition 1 has nearly reached it's peak (I personally wouldn't buy one any more) but the other editions were also well received - even though each edition had its haters and lovers. I consider my estimates as conservative. If I sell, I always prefer selling a cheap whisky expensively, rather than an expensive whisky at an even higher price. If you buy several bottles like these, then it's very easy to enjoy one or two for free after selling a bottle, so they end up actually being cheap - you just need to adjust.

First of all, add the buyer's premium (10% - no VAT as you are in the EU). Cost of purchase is now £2,200. When you import the set into Germany you will have 19% VAT to pay - bringing your total to £2,618. Let's add a token £20 for shipping. TOTAL PURCHASE £2,638. Let's assume you sell the set for £3,000 on eBay. Your selling fee would be 10%, so you would net £2,700. However, Paypal fees are around 2.9%, so you would only really net £2612.70 into your bank. £25.30 net loss. I do not mean to be facetious, but it is important that with any investment you take into account the full costs and not just the hypothetical profit. Again, with Edition 2 there were over 20 sold at Whisky Auctioneer in January 2021, all less than £300. Some as low as £270. I do not disagree that some bottles of Edition 2 have sold for £400, but these are the exceptions to the rule. I hope that these bottles do prove to be a good investment for people - but the more you look at *all* of the numbers it just doesn't stack up to me.

If I buy something for 2000 pounds that includes VAT, buyers premiums etc - just like when you buy bottles on the internet or supermarket. To be honest I don't care - I have bought 40 bottles of this series for an average cost of 100 Euros per bottle. In the end I will be laughing and you will be arguing that you were right.

It is - you just need to manage it like any investment. Buy low, sell high :) Right now the Editions are no longer able to be bought low.
