How about knocking from steering wheel when driving on uneven road specially on low speed. Also seems it has a not noticeable free play on steering wheel. When I went to shop, they said it needs to replace the whole steering linkage assembly.

My 2009 Honda accord I had an low speed accident where I hit another vehicle in my blind spot which bent my wheel a little as well as the tie rod end just a little but shortly after the power steering pump lines were very hot and a leak begun as a result melting the seal failed to mention immediately after the accident you had to put physical effort to cut the wheel to the right (where the damage occurred) I noticed a somewhat click coming out of the steering wheel due to life things I have been put in a spot to drive the vehicle this way and as a result I’m now hearing the metal grinding only when I turn right but after a certain point the steering wheel I guess snaps lose is the best way to describe it (going from difficult to turn right starting out to easy) also when up to speed the steering wheel is significantly easier to turn as if it had never been wrecked which led to replacing the pump right off before driving and it helped but still hard to turn here soon I’m gonna replace most front end parts such as the tie rods and ball joints but trying to narrow it down so I can do this all in one go to avoid damage to new parts and hassle ect there’s more that I can’t think of off the top of my head

My 2010 Ford Mondeo has stiff steering which then becomes light then back to stiff, there are no leaks, no grinding. I have replaced the reservoir and pump plus full bleeding of the system several times.... I don't think it is the rack as the car doesn't wander but at a loss to find the solution?

      Was it the Rack?

The boot on the Steering Rack is there to cover the inner tie rod ball joint, to keep its grease inside and to protect it. once the boot is off, the grease that protects it slowly leaks our due to heat and dirt. As a result the inner tie rod can go bad. But not necessarily the steering rack.

I cannot be the Rack necessarily.

Have you hit something hard lately? If not, they steering rack can also go bad due to wear and tear as it gets old. Usually you have to replace it when this happens. Good Luck!

There is a knocking when turning steering wheel in park. Subaru replaced psr but the noise remains. I can't drive a straight line. As if i was a lil drunk. Irritating for sure. Subaru says nothing wrong. Not sure that they replaced anything.

That’s Subaru for you! My husband drove Subarus, still have 2001, with 108k, 1 daughter on her 3rd, other daughter, smartened up, bought an Acura. I put a lot of $$$ in Subaru, most parts are junk. It’s hard to find a really good mechanic, and dealership to work on them. Good luck!

Hi, my son has an 08 ford explorer. He just had the inner/outer tie rods, lower ball joints, upper control arms and sway bar links replaced on both sides. His mechanic also noticed the rack n pinion is leaking and i hear a noise that sounds like grinding. He continues to drive as is. I need to know what are his risks if he xontinues to drive like that until he can fix. Your help is appreciated. Thank you!

if the system leaks oil, it means that the servo pump is also getting foul air inside and has too low a hydraulic oil level, which contributes to the destruction of the servo pump. This will eventually show in the difficulty of turning the steering wheel. Then it's time to replace the oil pump and rebuild the power steering rack. The cost is not small, at least $400

My steering sometimes is tight but most of times its working normal, i hear some slight clunking sound when quickly rotating left right steering wheel in still position, i also hear slight noise like a damn diesel engine, when i turn steering wheel, this is bad rack?

    • @fixit3879
      @fixit3879  5 місяців тому +1

It definitely has to be checked out. But sounds like you may have either a control arm ball joint issue, or tie rod ball joint issue. They tend to make that clunking sound when turning. Check those out, you can get them replaced if they are the problem. Usually steering rack has a much longer life.
      Hope this helps. Good Luck!

What if I loose power and whole car dies when I turn my steering to the left? I was told it's my rack and pinion.

Hitting any object including deer on the road can cause wheel mis-alignment.

Oh yeah. It pulls to the right a little now. I think its tie rods.

    • @fixit3879

Sounds like your car is out of alignment now. Possibly may have to replace a Tie Rod, and then do 4-Wheel Alignment. Good Luck! Thank you for sharing.
