A gentleman's rule of thumb I'm also striving to abide by from now on is to never say anything online that I wouldn't say to a person's face in real life. We're much more civil when we don't hide behind a screen.
Of course. If King Richard was willing to bargain his kingdom for a horse, what would we be willing to bargain for the reputation that could land you your dream job, dream business, or, dream date?
@@PayneMaximus Jesus is/was not a mythical figure. All religious studies scholars/ancient historians of sufficient reputation (even personally atheist ones in their private lives) back that up. It's not even debated. Just saying. ;)
Out-dressing your insecure higher-ups is a serious problem that does not get talked about. Thanks for mentioning it. As a proud individual and also as a long time viewer of this channel, I have done that a few times, of course, only with the intention to make myself look better, and it produced negative results. While it benefited me in the long run as I realized I should not work under such insecure leadership, it was not fun at the time and I would advise to be careful, especially, to younger gentlemen. Thank you!
Fashions is fundamentally social propositioning and the strategic usage of status symbols in the form of clothes. So the scenario is completely plausible.
Indeed. In my mind, dressing up was a way to show that I care for my job enough to put up my best looks on a daily basis while my leadership saw that combined with my good performance as my way of telling them that I am somehow above them or will not follow their command. One thing that is rather sad in not so obvious way is that in America everyone admires well dressed individuals as much as the rest of the world but the common culture somehow encourages dressing down and supports being ignorant about a good sense of style. Which makes makes the well dressed individual stand out in a bad way if the surrounding individuals are as problematic as my past work place.
It's a pleasure to see something like this. We have a dreadful culture in which standards of every kind have all but disappeared. It's good to see something which actually encourages good and classy behavior.
Story time: In the 1,5 years that I worked in retail at an office supplies store, I was 5 minutes late once without a legit reason. At a certain moment my manager said to my colleagues that I was 35 minutes late (whilst I was practically standing next to them). I just couldn't take that and said: "With all due respect but that is a lie and it's gossip. You have to drive 10 minutes to get here and you were here 30 minutes early. I was 5 minutes too late." It's a stupid mistake I made but that doesn't justify the lying and spreading gossip about me. And the fact that she does that right in my face only makes it worse. Glad I quit that job.
Great topic. It’s great to see the channel address so many other issues applicable to the confidence and integrity of men! It truly is an era when such information will be crucial, as a gig economy and individual contractors become more prevalent. Keep up the great work!
One of my favorite examples is the woman in the Lyft who was giving the guy a hard time for his hula figure on the dash. When SHE posted the video which became her ruin, thinking she was bringing him down. Seems to be the problem with a lot of people these days, where they get into these echo chambers and think that their heinous behavior is them "Doing the right thing."
This is another excellent video. Unfortunately, it is a sad commentary on our society when so many people have no clue about this. People have forgotten what it means to have character and to be a gentleman in one's whole being, not merely in how one dresses. I often recommend the poem "If" by Kipling as an example of standards of behavior to which people once aspired. And, how important it once was to transition to being an adult, instead of remaining emotionally a child one's entire life. Thank you for keeping so many important values alive.
5 shouldn't be labeled as overly emotional. You only talk about having a short fuse, but you can be emotional like being sad, or just in a noticeable depressive mood. You can try to control, but you should not surpress it. This is one of the things where your reputation has to step back or you crush yourself and then the best reputation is worth nothing.
Also one thing you forgot to mention. "Behaving like a dictator" both at work or on social media can really damage your image especially when coming to discussion about politics, kind of music they should listen to, how they suppose to work or behave, spreading lies and isolating you from meetings etc. In other words, acting like a psychopath which in turn abuses his/her power towards innocent people.
Sven, my father also used to say this - Money lost can be regained, reputation lost is very difficult to regain (but possible since the small world is a large place). But character lost, is lost forever. Thank you for your videos
Your reputation isn’t based just by your actions, but your appearance as well. A poorly, and sloppy dressed man tells me that not only he doesn’t care about himself or others, but he doesn’t pay attention to details. Which is why I’m getting all my clothes and sport jackets tailored to the finest touch
Outstanding and timely advice, regardless of your age or occupation (and women should watch as well). Technology has made it difficult for bad behavior to "disappear". Love the outfit!
The other day I went through a bad situation, where I ruined my reputation amongst coworkers/friends. Costing a close friend his job. I feel deeply terrible about it. If you could do a how to redeem your reputation video that’d be great. Thank you for the great content, you always make fantastic videos.
I don't think there is magical fix for this. Maybe a very positive move could help counteract your damaged reputation, but in the end only time will be your remedy. A partial remedy.
Working with a lot of people in public life, I can only attest to this being the truth. Whatever you do, be prepared to stand for it. For a very long time. It will never really go away. Cultivate some integrity and manners, and you'll not only have an easier time, but you'll also be appreciated by others who find that it's pleasant to be around you.

I had being too submissive to my employer in the past, so I always get bullied. Now I’m being more resistant, but then my peers somehow avoiding me because they want to save their position. I was also dressed sloppy in the past, and now I’m being overdressed in the office just because I’m wearing sport coat and chino, while everybody else dressing ultra casual like going to the gym style. I think there’s no rule of thumb on how you should behave in society, every culture has different mechanisms on its own. Sadly, most people don’t care enough to look at real problems, instead constantly making a snap judgement prematurely. Any recommendation guys?
I would say keep navigating the bounds within your workplace. It sounds very tricky given what you've already experienced. I won't advise on what to do specifically but with your ability to observe I'd encourage you to adapt and keep your options open for getting into a position that will allow you to not have to jump through so many hoops just because you want to assert yourself and be stylish at the same time. Keep your chin up and good luck to you!
I had a question unrelated to this video, because I can't find the video again I'm looking for. There was a shoe for summer you recommended that had a cotton upper, and straw sole, I think the style started with an A. Do you remember what style of shoe this was?
They damage their reputation by not watching your videos & subscribing to your channel, wich is very dapper, thus they end up looking like peasants. Remain dapper and carry on!
Good information overall, but I have to disagree with you on a few things (9:30 to 10:21): 1. While the focus of this channel is on men's style and ever increasingly behavior, men are the obvious target. That being said, sexual harassment is every individual's responsibility, not just men as women can also be harassers. 2. There are no universal standards one can use to distinguish harassing behavior vs. non-harassing behavior so speaking up can be helpful and help prevent future possible misunderstandings. There are also lots of surveys out there that show different feelings over what's deemed to be sexual harassment and this doesn't even touch on gender, generational, and cultural differences. For example, one showed that 25% of men viewed offering to buy a woman a drink was a form of sexual harassment. 3. People's opinion on things can not accurately reflect reality. Another example, people may think we live in the most dangerous (i.e. violent) time in history but even the w.h.o. acknowledges that violence is at an all-time low, historically. This is in no way to downplay the seriousness of the problem but rather to invite a more critical dialogue about it (a gentlemanly endeavor, I hope :-) ).
What a timely video. I'm beginning the process to delete my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchats so that I can start new accounts and have as clean of a slate as possible now.
Hello Sven! I love your Channel man. I was wondering if you could go over the removable shirt collars that you see in the show "peaky blinders". Maybe you could do a review or a brief overview of the style of clothing that they wear in that show. Thank you for your time.
In a situation where you are dining together with your family and you have a conversation, is it acceptable to check up facts regarding your conversation from your phone? For example, you are having a conversation about politics and you are discussing about when queen Victoria was coronated. In that situation I would take my phone and say, "I'll check it up from Wikipedia".
Just curious but are you saying one should not object to being filmed in front of a camera if they do not want to despite, and to a limit of their behavior, and when there is an abuse of a right to privacy? If I am a gentleman to those in response would not be by filming me without my permission, it goes against the nature of the gentleman, or any man for that matter, to treat them further with thoughtfulness. One cannot successfully be a gentleman in a bubble while in public; if I am received with ungentlemanly violation of my rights it is cause for objection. Society becoming comfortable itself to be watched and recorded everywhere they go is tolerance of invasion and that is not a "reputation" that I desire to share in.
Live in a way that accusations against your character will not be believed by others.
That is true.

5:01 Sven Raphael Schneider swears in a video for the first time ever.
He's done it in at least two others. I'll try to think of the topics so you can enjoy the contrast even more.
His reputation is over 😂
They damage their reputation by not watching your videos & subscribing to your channel, wich is very dapper, thus they end up looking like peasants. Remain dapper and carry on!
Lol
Replace mis-use of socialmedia, with “use of socialmedia” lol
Until when Is acceptable for a gentleman to avoid a fight? I mean, when do I consider fighting as my only option?
Good video, very well done.
Thanks!
This is why you make accounts that do not have your real information lol.
Well I guess some teachers should watch this
What a timely video. I'm beginning the process to delete my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchats so that I can start new accounts and have as clean of a slate as possible now.
Sven Raphael, you are the best!
Hmmm, someone should certainly should read this but then again that person has already broken every rule and doesn't seem to care.
Hello Sven! I love your Channel man. I was wondering if you could go over the removable shirt collars that you see in the show "peaky blinders". Maybe you could do a review or a brief overview of the style of clothing that they wear in that show. Thank you for your time.
We did! www.gentlemansgazette.com/peaky-blinders-suits-style/
How topical. I fear the advice will be wasted on he who needs it most.
Facebook, Snapchat, etc... This is the reason why I wish to live in XIX century...
Why is the painting and coat rack moving in and out of frame?
