    Re Styles - vocals
    Fee Waybill - vocals
    Vince Welnick - keyboards
    Summary:
More than three decades after the release of their debut A&M album in 1975, the Tubes have never received the recognition and attention from rock historians they truly deserve. They have always been a cutting edge band, and the best material in the Tubes' repertoire has been able to melt quirky humor, intricate musicianship, and radio friendly pop hooks into a memorable blend. They have always been known for putting on an incredible live show, spearheaded by front man Fee Waybill's vaudevillian stage charisma.
At the end of the day, however, the Tubes' "in-your-face" theatrics were their greatest virtue and their biggest liability-when the Tubes became trapped by an unprofitable stage show they had developed, they went barebones and decided to focus only on the music. Unfortunately, no one was all that interested. The indifference caused the breakup of the band in the mid-1980s, and though they tried to re-group in 1987 without Waybill, it wasn't until a new deal with BMG imprint Radikal Records in 1995 that the core line-up finally reformed.
This show was staged at Winterland in the band's hometown of San Francisco, a few months before the release of their self-titled debut album in June of 1975. There is no visual aid here, but it should provide a good idea of Waybill's over-the-top showmanship with a litany of characters (which included a drug-hazed rock star named Quay Lewd). This is a short set, clocking in at just under 30 minutes, but clearly demonstrates the vivacious onstage energy of the Tubes at an early point in their career.

I was 16 or 17 years old and from Akron...Tubes were up in Cleveland Ohio. I sort of knew how to take 77 up into Cleveland. Took my buddy and we got up there and found the concert hall. Drank our butts off on the way and when we got there in the car and went in and bought some acid from the most f up dude we could find and I remember hot chicks dancing along with Fe and one heck of a show. The best T-shirt...big splash THE TUBES that was squirting out of the bottom. First major concert in Cleveland. 2nd was DIO at couple months later and both were friggin mind blowing.

I saw them when that LP first came out at Vets Memorial Columbus ,Ohio. A buddy of mine called the radio station and got free tickets. No one was there, no one knew who they were. SAHB, Sensational Alex Harvey Band opened for them. Couldn't have been no more than a couple hundred people or so.

I bought the first Tubes album in '75-76. "White Punks on Door" was well received in my group of friends. But I'll be damned if I can remember why we liked THAT song so much. And I'll be a monkey"s uncle if I can remember who those friends were.Shit, I can't really remember much about the '70s, or the '80s, or the '90s, dammit what year is this? What is dope? Who the hell is Fay Waybill? Why am I typing words on this thing? What IS this freaking thing called..........

Teenage had a race for the night time
Spent my cash on every high I could find
Wasted time in every school in L.A.
Getting loose, I didn't care what the kids say
    We're white punks on dope
Mom & dad moved to Hollywood
Hang myself when I get enough rope
Can't clean up, though I know I should
    White punks on dope
    White punks on dope
Other dudes are living in the ghetto
But born in pacific heights don't seem much betto
    We're white punks on dope
Mom & dad live in Hollywood
Hang myself when I get enough rope
    I can't clean up, though I know I should
    White punks on dope
    White punks on dope
I go crazy 'cause my folks are so fucking rich
Have to score when I get that rich white punk itch
Sounds real classy, living in a chateau
So lonely, all the other kids will never know
    We're white punks on dope
Mom & dad live in Hollywood
Hang myself when I get enough rope
Can't clean up, though I know I should
    White punks on dope

I'm not sure yet ; maybe I found a way to hear MY MUSIC again. Many years of groups around the world are now being heard by thieves who probably didn't know what they had. To me music is indescribable, personal, and I guess everyone gets ripped eventually? People are getting a little desperate, though.
