When The Tubes plated New Years at Winterland in 1975/76, the Stanford Band backed them in the finale to this song. Within a few weeks, in a quid pro quo, The Tubes played MemAud at Stanford. i was there. Best. Show. Ever. God, I feel old ....
I was in High school and I was in charge of getting the band for our annual Barn Dance and we usually went with the local bands we had in our small farming and ranching community called Gonzales (bout100+ miles south of SF). It was for the FFA annual Barn Dance and I contracted these crazy fools and I tell you what, they played their asses off for us bunch of cowboys and stoners, it was one of the most successful dances the AGGIES ever held the good old days.
+Agapito “Augie” Villanueva ....look for "Cowboy Fee & The Heffer's Dream, Keystone - Palo Alto"......the tubes doing C/W.....think I saw it here on YT
This sh-t is the BEST! I'll never forget way back in the day when my dad brought this LP home when I was like eight or nine in like 1975 plus it was all over the radio back then. It still gives me chills and reminds me of growing up in suburban Rincon Valley Ca in the 1980s. Whether our folks were "so fucking rich" or not, we were, almost all of us, "white punks on dope" LOL. In any event, classic and fully ROCKING song. Much thanks to the uploader. This is as classic as it gets. WPOD, indeed! The Tubes f-ing ROCK, and this is a very prime example, if not the very best example, period!
Here's a little kid on dope right here ,... and the disco dancer's on dope, ... and the hard angel's on dope, ... and our piano player is on dope also, ... and the fireman is on dope right over there, ... and this guy is on dope, ... and that guy over there, ... and everybody, ... here it goes Lee, White Punks On Dope, ... I can walk, ... Thank you Jesus!
It's my personal requirement to watch this video a few times a year. Brilliant song and great stage performance. And the Hard Angels don't make it too tough on the eyes either.
Didn't get to see the Tubes live until about 1982. More new wave than punk at that point, but they were still amazing! And this song and performance IS EVERYTHING!
I graduated from Concord High School/Northern California in 1975. In July of 1973 when I was 16 I seen LED ZEPPELIN at KEEZAR Stadium in San Francisco, The TUBES opened up the show! Never heard of them before, became an INSTANT FAN on that day.....and still am!
You don't think they are the tiniest bit contrived? Come on, man. I love the Tubes, but they are very much a performance gig in the vein of A. Cooper, Cheech & Chong, Spinal Tap, M. Manson, GWAR, Green Jello, the Darkness, Steel Panther, etc. Satire is always somewhat contrived. It is an attempt to satirize/parody. Comedians throwing on costumes are always contrived.
I saw them in NY at the Academy of Music. While exiting, I passed by Glen Buxton from Alice’s band. He was standing against a wall and said to his friend “These guys are fuckin great!!”. He was sooo right!!!
When Fee says, f__kin' Jesus, it went right past the FCC sensors (and still does) whenever the studio version gets played on the radio.............unadulterated!
Tuesdays are always the most difficult day to pick up a #music video; there are just so many good choices! The Tubes have always been one of my favorite bands. I saw them at some theater in the valley, where I was the only person dancing in the aisle "on dope." I also saw and danced to them at The Catamaran Resort in SD. I was introduced to their #music by my first UCI roommate with this song!
Its cool as hell when Mr Cotten comes down from his synths to dance with the stage show! Was lucky to see the original band a couple of times with the huge stage show before they slimmed down the band.Still catch The Tubes when they come thru Phoenix!!!
First saw them in 1979 on Remote control tour and about 20 times since ,about once a year they come thru Phoenix.Saw them in February 2016 as a 5 piece band with original members Fee Waybill Roger Steen Rick Anderson and the one the only Prairie Prince. They still kick ass live!!!
You've got your concerts mixed up, I know it's hard after all these years to remember who was at each one. Opening for Led Zeppelin that day was Judas Priest, followed by Rick Derringer. I was there.
No shit, I was only 6 when this came out, but living in an extremely progressive dominant FM radio market (Cleveland Ohio GO CAVS), we would get all kinds of music and having older brother, cousins would listen and opened my mind at an early age. Classic Gold here
I can walk! Thank you, Jesus! LMFAO I've loved this track for over 40 years. This video will have to remain *the* top best performance of it that I'll ever see, and I'm gonna watch a few more. Lol
***** Although Be-Bop Deluxe had some very good songs, the majority of their material was boring introverted prog noodling, on top of that in Bill Nelson a weak voiced charisma starved frontman. He found his vocation in the 80's with somewhat anonymous but interesting electronic music ,that suited him more.
Shad Michels, they are still playing live--they rock the house, too! Fricking amazing. The synth player, Michael Cotten, and Bill Spooner (one of the guitarists) usually don't play out with them anymore; and the pianist, the great Vince Welnick, passed away, I'm sad to say. But Fee, the singer, Roger Steen, the other guitarist, Prairie Prince, Rick Anderson, the bassist, are still to be found touring, and they rock!
fesadas001 I can see why! What a spectacular performance! This is what a live show should be like. I don't go to many concerts anymore 'cause they are boring in comparison to this. I made an exception for Swans last week, & I'm glad that I did....another truly remarkable, mind-blowing band to see live...
Saw the Tubes in Southampton , UK after they were banned in Portsmouth for lewd behaviour. The local council did not want to take a risk. A crazy, high energy set, it was fantastic. Fee Waybill was astonishing to watch. The whole of 'white punks on dope' is a mickey take on a white youth sub culture in the affluent areas of LA. I loved the very staged stack of speakers falling on top of him, as it did in every show and the bizzare characters casually appearing on the stage. I remember the topless female dancers dressed as king prawns, it doesn't get any wackier than this! They were so much more than just this song.
This is kind of Music 🙀😺🤟🤟🤘🤘✌️😊🤡😺😙🤩. WHITE PUNKS ON DOPE FROM THE 60’s Yes,Like it was Yesterday as in Yesterday,Today & Tomarrow Anyone 🛐☦️🙏🔥🤘 Real Good Shit 🙌🏻 PEACEOUT MEDICALMIKE YOURS
The icons of performance art.
One of the greatest songs of all time.
Yes it is
Fact.
When The Tubes plated New Years at Winterland in 1975/76, the Stanford Band backed them in the finale to this song. Within a few weeks, in a quid pro quo, The Tubes played MemAud at Stanford. i was there. Best. Show. Ever. God, I feel old ....

Thanks my friend I will do that. when I saw their videos on the YT it brought back good memories. Those really were the best days of my life!!
AWESOME!
a Barn Dance??? lololol. That's killer!
This is the best g-damned story I've heard about these crazy guys.
Anthem❤
What a fecking riot! They don't make em like this anymore!
THE most talented musicians to ever do a "theatrical" band!
This sh-t is the BEST! I'll never forget way back in the day when my dad brought this LP home when I was like eight or nine in like 1975 plus it was all over the radio back then. Quite possibly the best live performance ever in the history of western civilization!
The OGWT version is actually even better, & it's in color!
George Penwell sounds like...morden day society. ..
actually smoked hash with the piano player
America's finest. Thank you, Jesus.
I love this so much. I want to share this with Rhonda Santis.
It's my personal requirement to watch this video a few times a year. Brilliant song and great stage performance.
And the Hard Angels don't make it too tough on the eyes either.

America's greatest entertainment value 40yrs. ago!
So much talent, best Theatrical band Ever!!!
Classic song. Brings back lots of memories.
Absolutely fantastic
Marilyn Manson and the rest of these pretenders got nothing on these guys. They were outrageous without being contrived.
Is anyone else laughing so hard ? SHOWMEN !!! Those boots !
Ima WHITE PUNK ON DOPE 🤣🤪☮️☮️☮️🙏🏼😄🤪😎😜🍀
First time I listened to Don't Touch Me There on KSAN instantly fell in love with them.
this might be the greatest rock n roll song ever
This is one of the best tunes.
Fearless & focused insanity = genius!
National Anthem
Love it !! IT Never gets old !!! The Tubes!!!
seen the Tubes in Dallas in 75 the again in 80 both show's were great, but that first show in 75 was beyond anything I have seen sense!!!
I saw them in NY at the Academy of Music. While exiting, I passed by Glen Buxton from Alice’s band. He was standing against a wall and said to his friend “These guys are fuckin great!!”. He was sooo right!!!
Loved the Tubes, loved Fee Waybill - priceless XD
I am so with you on that my favorite national recording artist back then, now its the winery dogs, n u r cute.
This song is great
Right at 6:02 the sound just becomes so sinister and evil- so sublime.
still astounding
This band is my fave, they were like the rocky horror picture of rock n'roll, all the antics and theatrics just rules
erm..so who came first..Rocky horror or the Tubes..who was copying who?
@@alanoneill3065 Rocky Horror's first performance was in June of 73. Do you know if The Tubes were playing in 73...debut album came out in 75
that was the badassesst things I've ever seen maybe
I'm really tired and that made me laugh so much, in a good way. It is exactly what you said, lol.
I seen them in 76 at Golden West Ballroom. Great song!
Fascinating!!!
Saw them live in San Francisco at the Palace of Fine Arts. Great concert.
What a band. What a show. Kiss was the headliner. Jaws dropped that night.
thank you Jesus
Can't clean up/although I know I should!
When Fee says, f__kin' Jesus, it went right past the FCC sensors (and still does) whenever the studio version gets played on the radio.............unadulterated!
he says thank you jesus
Best version ever.
Yeah, this is pretty great. What's remarkable is how early this is.
rock at its best.
Still fucking cool!
Seriously! Who can watch this just one time?

First saw them in 1979 on Remote control tour and about 20 times since ,about once a year they come thru Phoenix.Saw them in February 2016 as a 5 piece band with original members Fee Waybill Roger Steen Rick Anderson and the one the only Prairie Prince. They still kick ass live!!!

Lucky you!
WOW! i remember them as New Wave in 1981
saw these guys open for Led Zepplin, 1977, Oakland Ca, Oakland Coliseum, WOW!! Day on the Green I think it was called.
You've got your concerts mixed up, I know it's hard after all these years to remember who was at each one. Opening for Led Zeppelin that day was Judas Priest, followed by Rick Derringer. I was there.
... Sing along with Bill tonight ...
This was more elaborate than the touring production of Hair.
Hell yeah!
Oh yeah this song hits all kinds of buttons
MUST HAVE GIVEN IGGY POP A BIG LOUD GAS BUBBLE FOR A WHILE UNTIL DAVID SAVED HIM HEY?
The best band to appear on the legendary British music show "The Tube!"
Looking good ladies!
Exactly what is was like to be young in the bay area in 1975.
Thanks!! Right before I graduated High school on 6-11-1975. This Frick'n Rocks! I appreciate. :)
No shit, I was only 6 when this came out, but living in an extremely progressive dominant FM radio market (Cleveland Ohio GO CAVS), we would get all kinds of music and having older brother, cousins would listen and opened my mind at an early age. Classic Gold here
The real deal, baby.
yes we were!
I still am. And nobody cares.
I can walk! Thank you, Jesus! LMFAO
I've loved this track for over 40 years. This video will have to remain *the* top best performance of it that I'll ever see, and I'm gonna watch a few more. Lol
They performed at one of my band mates friend...’celebration of life’ party in Fremont, CA. Killer fun band. Roger Steen’s a killer guit player....
This is the official theme song of Johnny Manziel.
If my kids only knew. LOL
+Timothy W
Mine does. He's okay with it .. LOL! He turned out better than me despite my mother's " I hope you have kids like I did" curse.

As good as it fuckin gets!
This is such awesome footage!
I listened this song every morning in 8 grade, my turn table was right next to my bed. Hollywood High class of getting kicked out in the 11th grade.
Hollywood High? I went to Hollywood High in '75. Music was amazing then....still is.
I have this, constant LP I took to parties to "DJ" lol!! Fucking on edge for this time period.
