ELO was the first prog band I ever listened to at 7 years old and still love them. Jeff Lynne's voice is one of my all-time faves. Great pick! Mr. Blue Sky I highly recommend.
What I like about Jeff Lynne's voice is that while it isn't flashy, it's so warm and full right there in the middle that it's perfect for all the other elements they build around it...
Sweet talkin woman.... Can't get it out of my head..... Birmingham blues.... Telephone line.... Mr. Blue sky..... Steppin out..... Eldorado.... .. Out of the blue album.. every song they do is EPIC.

Personally, I, always, had more of a preference for EARLIER Electric Light Orchestra material and the "harder-edged" side of their sound [THIS song was a great place to start, I.M.O.!]. I will recommend: "Don't Bring Me Down" (kind of a "you want disco?? ...this is "rock 'n' roil disco!" 😛😜"call-out"/"response" record; at thee time...🤷) l "So Fine" [unfairly ignored, nowadays! 🤘🤘] "Do Ya" [A rocker!] and "Turn To Stone" [good "meld" of: Lynne's Beatles obsession, with "rockier" tendencies and "orchestra"-toe arrangements and ideas!]

ELO is a classic, period. They were an entity to themselves as far as their genre. Ask most 50+ adults to name a song of theirs and they will be stumped. However play any of their multiple hit songs and that same person will sing along word for word. Kudos for testing the waters with them! Look forward to every post you two post!
Not the only symphonic prog band by a long shot. Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, ELP, Kansas, Alan Parsons Project, Moody Blues, Procol Harum, RENAISSANCE!!, etc all used classical and symphonic influences to shape their music. Many of those bands used the MELLOTRON to recreate that orchestral sound. ELO was good, but hardly unique. And what's this with 50+ adults not being able to name their songs?? Lmfao . I was buying ELO albums at the age of 14-15 in the mid 70s. We Boomers grew up with them. Are you freaking kidding me? 🤪🤪🤪🤪
ELO are one of those great, underrated bands of the 70s/80s. John Lennon once famously said in an interview that he liked them a lot and that their sound was similar to what the Beatles would have become had they stayed together. Another good one fellas! 🤜
@@Greg-io1ip Somehow not buying that. Arguments and lawsuits over songwriting credits is what did it. Groucutt and Bevan felt slighted by Lynne and that's what ended the Orchestra. Lynne and Tandy are the only original pieces left performing.
Mr Blue Sky by ELO was found by scientists to be the happiest song. I totally agree it is. You guys will love it for sure. Definitely the studio version, you get the full effect.
Keep those Elo reactions coming !! “Livin thing”, “Mr Blue Sky”, “Telephone Line”, “Do Ya”, “Showdown” are some other great songs but they have so many unique songs that are simply awesome !
I'd love to hear about your music experience. I looked at your About page, and all it says is you are music producers in CA. I know one of you plays the drums from listening to your commentary. What music background do you have? What music have you produced? Was it all a specific genre? It would be really cool to see you guys make a Bio video of yourselves. I really enjoy your channel!
ELO has strings in their band even while traveling, hence the name Electric light Orchestra. The number of strings is greatly reduced during travel as opposed to recording.
Jeff Lynne had to be Mozart in a prior lifetime. Pure genius and still doing it today at over 70 years old. When you react to Mr Blue Sky, make sure it's the album version so that you can hear every melodic change at the end. Almost makes me tear up every time. Anything from the Zoom album is epic, but all of Lynne's work is nothing short of fantastic.
"Strange Magic", "Tightrope", "Turn to Stone", "Telephone Line", "Shine a Little Love" and "Fire On High" are my requests for "NEXT". Love your channel.
Jeffy Lynne the lead singer, writer, composer, producer etc was a master at turning Beatlesque pop melodies and outfitting them with symphonic prog orchestration. Their 2 best and peak albums were Eldorado and Face the Music, which this song is from. There is some great live video of them during this era, you can see the cello and violin players perform, good stuff 👍
Everything ELO is gold. The obvious would be Mr Blue Sky for sheer audacity but a personal favourite is from a later album (Time) entitled Ticket to the Moon. Jeff Lynne is a musical genuis who still has his voice live decades later.
Thank you both for your reactions. Have you reacted to ELO's "Roll Over Beethoven", "All Over the World", "Don't Bring Me Down", or "Showdown". And the list goes on. They have ALOT to react to. Lol
There is a line in one of the verses that is a reference to a Beatles song, of whom Jeff Lynne was a huge fan. And in fact The Beatles song is one that McCartney wrote and sang lead on, Fixing A Hole where the rain gets in. And in fact, he collaborated with McCartney once the Beatles broke up and they had a hit together which I absolutely love, I've Had Enough.
Listen to that fucking production and arrangement. For some reason, all of a sudden, those keys remind me of Daft Punk (Hey, you guys need to listen to them). Yes, those strings come in and out always adding to the dynamic, interest build and diversity, then a little dissonance or oddity is tossed in, a wrench in the works, but quickly pulled out of back to the groove. This is the profound and subtle song writing mastery of Jeff Lynne. Pure genius.
Saw them on the Face the Music tour. So good, no freaking reserved seats. Only came across those fir Billy Joel Glass Houses tour. I was like WTH is this. Im stuck seated here? Can't go to the stage? Lololol
ELO--primarily Jeff Lynn--is known for combining rock and classical, and has a deep catalog of albums, hits, and great records. Jeff is known for his writing and producing, and has worked with other famous artists. I suggest starting ELO's their early, rawer, and athletic early incarnation, with Roll Over Beethoven--their breakout hit--which combines Beethoven's Ninth and Chuck Berry. I would love to hear La's reaction to its hyper, rolling drumbeat in the instrumental breaks. And Lynn sings like a man possesed. All the best.
My Dad used to quote the Bible,"Like a dog returns to eat its vomit, a fool returns to his folly." It took me so long to learn, at a certain point he could just look at me and say "Yummy?"....

ELO has a pot of gold in their music.
70s radio was full of ELO, they had so many songs that became a part of our lives through thier long string of radio hits.
If you were asked to play in the Traveling Willburys, you were already a legend. Jeff Lynne is one.

Spot on.
Why is everyone leaving out the ELO lip-synching controversy that ended them? Odd.
@@Greg-io1ip - "Ended" them? They used backing vocal tracks when live to capture the studio sound. Lynne ended the band, not the lip synching.
