Who/What should I react to next? 🤩
Electric Light Orchestra "Tightrope"...TRUST ME!! 🔥
Led Zeppelin's 🌑 "When the Levee Breaks" is the deep dark blues'iest rocker (even with harmonica;) & with best drum intro! (o' John Bonham)👍
I would suggest to now go & listen to the studio version as well.
Turn to Stone- or Telephone Line - E.L.O. Much Love!~
Roll Over Beethoven- live-ELO-same concert-Wembley
The violinist who is standing, is the gorgeous Rosie Langley. She’s been melting hearts for years.
Jeff Lynne is a superb producer of live sound as well as composer / musician. A modern genius.
The part you didn't care for - is one of my favorite moments in the song. It's done perfectly.
I saw ELO's farewell concert when they came to town a few weeks ago. I usually go to hard rock / prog shows where every song is 20 minutes long. Lynn and crew hit you with 3.5 minute hits one after another for two hours. It was a fantastic show.
I just saw them live last week here in Los Angeles and they sound just like their records. The sound mix is impeccable because Jeff Lynne is an incredible music producer and you can hear every instrument on its own. The weird violin sound you here during the violin break is exactly as it is on the record. It's a distortion device for the violin. The violins and the cellos are electric.
I saw Electric Light Orchestra live back in the 70s.Great concert..even without sexy women on the stringed instruments.
It's not a distortion device on the studio version, it's a string crescendo from another song on the album (the song is, *"Nightrider",* and the album is, Face The Music) played backwards on, *"Evil Woman".* That's why it sounds strange to the ear, because it's backwards.
The instrument that gives that sound is a Clavinet. An electronic keyboard that gives that mix of a wah-wah sound. Widely used in the 70's and 80's Disco period.
The “weirdness” at the mid point were strings played in reverse or “backmasked.” That created the dissonance. It was a prerecording triggered by the keyboardist, not played live.
Actually, didn’t they just recreate the backmasked section using the live strings with added phasing? The live phasing might also be the reason for the difference in sound. I’m just sceptical about the “pre-recorded” idea because it sounds more difficult to do. But hey, if you know it as fact rather than speculation, that’s fine.
I hear this a lot in reaction videos: "I know this section!". It's because the songs are so old (and GOOD) they have permeated the culture to a level that they could not have imagined at the time. Whether in movies or commercials, they get played, sometimes in tiny clips, or as part of a movie soundtrack. Also, that sound you were obsessing over was there in the original studio version, it was by design, to don't mess with perfection, please. I've heard this enough times to know almost every note by heart.
First time I saw them was on The Midnight Special introduced by Richard Pryor, 1973. What was their signature song "Roll Over Beethoven".
That's a Clavinet (keyboard) on the chorus. The string break was created by running the string part through a phase shifter (processor). It was originally created by playing a string part backwards from another song on the same album "Face the Music" then running it through the phase shifter. Pretty cool! Jeff Lynne is a great innovator!
No mistake, the dischord is intentional and correct.
Its a synthesizer. Have seen them multiple times live starting in 1973. This is their live sound. Jeff Lynn is considered a production, recording and sound system genius. The light show is second to none as well.
"The light show is second to none as well."
Pink Floyd would like a word.
My god I love it when you young'ns recognize the chorus from a song like that
Maggie ALWAYS knows the chorus. ELO typically performs live very much like the albums/singles, so much so that anything not quite up to par stands out. Love this song and video. Loved your reaction. 😃
One of my favorite aspects of ELO is the inclusion of the strings, to add a bit of classical feel to their songs. Such smooth and fun instrumental blends. Great reaction, Maggie.
No matter how many times I watch the dvd I can't pick my good lady and I out. Great reaction
Electric Light Orchestra "Tightrope"...TRUST ME!! 🔥
Agree my favourite song
@PatRyan-my8ep I can definitely relate,, It's my favorite by them as well,, ELO at their very best.
Agreed. New World Record is one of my absolute favorite albums, all thriller no filler!
@kallsop2 I can understand that..Personally,, I've never met an ELO song that I absolutely didn't like.
In 2002 Evil Woman by E.L.O. was used in Austin Powers: Goldmember during the jail scene where Dr. Evil receives a visit from Frau Farbissina. 😂
That is Wembley, June 24, 2017; the biggest venue the band ever played. Crowd numbered 60,000.
Next year he is at Hyde Park, could be even bigger. Looking forward to see him live there🤩
@@mgnzmn9362 That would be Jeff Lynne without ELO, since ELO is done touring, right? Of course, he always was ELO. There were no original members left on the Over And Out tour.
@@mgnzmn9362 The Over And Out tour this year was medium-size venues, at least in the U. S.
The genius called Jeff Lynne was 70 years old here, he's just finished his last tour in America this year at 77 years old, same age as me, l don't know how he does its, called Over and Out.
What a man, what a career ❤
Showdown by Electric Light Orchestra should be next! it's an amazing song
No song projected my life more than this one. It was an absolute guide as I followed that of fast women balanced by that of slow racehorses. thanks Maggie Renee. You evil woman you!
Thanks for ELO ! Never forgotten. And you're so beautiful !😍
Great arrangements. Great tunes. I do not believe they ever reached a number 1 hit on the charts yet they have so many hits
The only number one hit song credited to ELO in either the US or the UK was the song Xanadu by Olivia Newton John which was arranged by Lynne
Another segment of the soundtrack of my life. Love it!
In the set list for the Over And Out tour. The graphics for that one were terrific. Jeff's voice is showing the years, but he can still deliver.
ELO has a lot of good songs, some of my favorites FOUR LITTLE DIAMONDS
Always loved their version of "Roll Over Beethoven".
ELO’s Rock Aria ! I would have thought would be right up your street.
Long Live Rock N Roll!~
The entire album (Eldorado) is a bit of an opera about the nature of dreams and the humdrum of everyday life vs. the heroic nature of legendary tales.
Saw ELO back in the 80s out of the blue album live. Trust me was a awesome concert. Have all albums.
The "hole in my head" line is a reference to the Beatles' "Fixing A Hole". Lynne was heavily influenced by them. John Lennon called ELO "the new Beatles". Jeff helped get George Harrison's career going again in the late Eighties, and, with him, was a member of the Traveling Wilburys.
Not quite. What Lennon called ELO was, "Son of Beatles". The former Beatle really dug ELO, praising them several times in the '70s, even up to just a few months before his death in 1980, when he listed, *"All Over The World",* as his favorite new song on the radio.
@@Cosmo-Kramer Okay, I stand corrected. It was high praise, no doubt.
Love the reaction, Maggie!
Great song as they said back in the day "groovy." lol Great job Maggie!
It’s Actually A Fire Extinguisher!
It’s a fire extinguisher on Mr Blue Sky, not this song.
Manchester Orchestra - The Silence. Brings all the feels!
I think that sound is violins played backwards so it freaks your ears out when the attack comes at the end.
Pop and rock often use sour or off notes etc for effect or meaning .
One of my favourite recordings by Master Classical Guitarist John Williams is based around discordant and seemingly bum notes.....but when composed so well and played perfectly it sounds fantastic.
The tune itself was composed by a renowned composer, so it wasn't a mistake.
Evil Women? More than one , even.
You have to remember “American Band Stand” was the only live performance on TV at the time,so if you wanted a live experience you had to go to a live performance 🤣. So the crowd was always huge, the crowd here was thin because people had space between them on the floor. I went to a concert once and had to push the guy in front of my girlfriend so we could breathe and a stage hand started pumping out dry ice fog on the crowd to keep cool so they didn’t pass out (I think some people did) from body heat. Fun times 🎉 Oh and maybe “The Midnight Special “. No computer cell phones only records or possibly eight tracks.
Fire On High from the Face the Music album is another must listen-to
What a song magical check out their diary of Horace wimp thanks for reaction
I wrote this in a matter of minutes. The rest of the album was done. I listened to it and thought, 'There’s not a good single.' So I sent the band out to a game of football and made up 'Evil Woman' on the spot. The first three chords came right to me. It was the quickest thing I’d ever done. We kept it slick and cool, kind of like an R&B song. It was kind of a posh one for me, with all the big piano solos and the string arrangement. It was inspired by a certain woman, but I can’t say who. She’s appeared a few times in my songs.--J. L.
I SAW ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA (E.L.O.) LIVE 2019 AT THE TACOMA DOME IN TACOMA, WA. STATE U.S.A.
Thanks, Maggie - they were awesome when they came out in the mid-late seventies.. and continue on... their live performances are always great.. Jeff Lynne is the genius behind this group.. I hope you have time & inclination to check him out as part of the "Traveling Wilburys" as well.. probably the best "super group" evah! (Jeff, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison!)... look forward to more of your reactions... (p.s. that little "discord" you heard was TOTALLY deliberate... lol.. creating that moment of dissonance also creates a "relief" when it's resolved)
Roll on next July, Hyde Park here we come. 🤗
The “wah wah” sound is a keyboard, originally a clavinet.
I grew up listening to this.
ELO always does good stuff..check out their song UFO for interesting change of pace-stay healthy (both of you)
ELO doesn't have a song called, "UFO".
It’s Evil Woman!
I think the sound there is violins played backwards to freak your ear out when the attack sound comes at the end.
Hello 👋 beautiful lady, I hope you are well, and enjoy this song 🎶
And thank you very much, Roy 🤜🤛😊👍

Phase shifter on the strings.
Listen to the studio version. That string interlude is correct and the same as the original.
Early on, Jeff Lynne just kept overdubbing. By the time of "Face The Music", in addition to the group's musicians, he was using a 30-piece string section in the studio.
I think what you were hearing at the end of the bridge was some flanger that they put on the violin, and took it back out again'
I was there.
Awesome, I know that had to be worth the price of admission
For starters, lots of fun on this review!
I agree around 5:20, I think that particular sound was from a guitar with a pedal effect. The attack is so distinct and forward, and there are nuances hard to explain that "feel" like the downward and upward picking pattern. Not the sound of the pick, per se, but the difference between upward and downward stroke of the pick, esp when picking kind of fast like that.
I'm sure a synth can be programmed thusly, and you could probably come close to that sound. But..... I think guitar.
Now you made me go listening to "Mr Blue Sky" - again. It's too catchy!!
Maggie,at 2:48 is like on the original record.. 😁🤷♂️🥳
You should react to 'Telephone line ' from the same concert Live in Wembley stadium.
The Original Album Song is like a Phase Effect.
It's not a phase effect on the studio version, it's a string crescendo from another song on the album (the song is, *"Nightrider",* and the album is, Face The Music) played backwards on, *"Evil Woman".* That's why it sounds strange to the ear, because it's backwards.
I love you Maggie.... and I love ELO ❤️
Do ELO's ShangriLa. Has special stuff
Great reaction as always! Not strange at all at 7:45, and the notes were on point, only modulated a bit so it sounds off. Listen to the studio version and you will hear what they intended to reproduce at that point in the music ...
I can't remember the song title, but one of their songs did have a high operatic part..... brilliantly sung live by the male bass player.. ....if you find it , you will be surprised.
The song might be ....A Living Thing, im really not sure.
This is very close to the studio recording.
Livin' Thing from the same clip at Wembly PLEASE. XX
The only reason I know this song is because it was in one of the Austin powers movies, I can't remember which.
Fun fact: Duran Duran also does a rendition of this song.
Up next , stay with ELO the song , Roll Over Beethoven . PLEASE
Jeff Lynn is a God level musician, nuff said, don't question God...
Evil WomAn - singular!
Cool!
Excellent
The Group Yes, the song Hold On live in the Apollo. Its a great song
You know the chorus because it and the song were ubiquitous.
Exactly as planned-- it's the same on the studio version .
Hello Miss. Pussycat Dolls utiliza ese estribillo sonoro de "Evil Woman" en su canción "Beep".
Últimamente, Duran Duran hizo un cover
ELO es fantástica agrupación, pero me quedo con la ELO Original de 1974 a 1986.
Next song from ELO: " All Over The World" o " Sweet Talking Woman" o "Shangri-La " esta ulltima le interesara.
Me gustan tus reacciones, te veo desde Chile, América Latina.
Check out Rollover Beethoven by ELO!!
So Paul Mcartney is not the only left handed bass player.
That sound you heard is not a guitar but a synthesizer with a clavinet sound
Hello, beautiful woman!! Please, react to Strange Magic.
Face The Music (1975)
Evil Woman. Not Evil Women.
Lots of movies.
That electric violin part that sounds like a wrong note is, as far as I know, the correct note. I have heard this song 1000 times over my life and that note is ALWAYS there. I think it's there to play on the unsettling feeling of the word "evil" in the title. At this point, the song wouldn't sound proper to me withOUT that note.
It's not a distortion device on the studio version, it's a string crescendo from another song on the album (the song is, *"Nightrider",* and the album is, Face The Music) played backwards on, *"Evil Woman".* That's why it sounds strange to the ear, because it's backwards.
Not Ello it's E×L×O
Nope that strange sound was done on purpose.
synth n vioin in tandem?
Great reaction. If you like cow bell try Nazareth - Hair of the Dog
Any elo
Guitar with a pedal.
Woman, not women
It's very distracting when you keep jiggling your puppies Maggie ❤
you don't know what you're talking about. all you have to do is listen tom the recorded version.
Most uncool review!!!
Hablas mucho y no escuchas.
ELO ARE AMAZING SO TALENTED👌👌👌👌👌🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
