ELO are one of those quiet heavyweights of Rock. Absolutely huge in the 70’s with their unique sound. They have a special place in my heart as their music reminds me of childhood holidays in the 70’s and 8 track cassettes.
One of those bands when you hear them you recognise who they are.
Check out The Diary of Horrice Wimp, 10538 Overture, Rockaria!, Turn to Stone, Sweet Talkin’ Woman and last but not least Mr. Blue Sky.

Lots of good songs by ELO. Jeff Lynne is brilliant. He is not well-known because he is very humble and avoids the spotlight. I recommend these two songs off their Out of the Blue album: "Standin' In The Rain" and "Big Wheels". They are pure ELO. Enjoy!

Just a tip...when you listen to ELO's song "Can't Get It Out of My Head" it should always be preceded by "Eldorado Overture." Those two songs go together like peanut butter and jelly or bacon and eggs.

The rabbit hole called "Electric Light Orchestra" is deceivingly dangerous. Once you fall into it, it's very hard to get out, assuming one wants to. So many good songs to choose from, and even the non-singles are just that good.

1979’s Don’t Bring Me Down was ELO’s biggest American hit, coming in at Billboard No. 4. Funny enough, it was also their first song (among a rare few) that featured no orchestra backing.
It was an “afterthought” song ELO’s leader and music industry genius, Jeff Lynne, recorded solo after the album sessions were done, thinking he needed to include a banger. His band mates and contracted full orchestra was long gone. He used a drum loop of another but song and wrote and played all instruments. I’m not sure but it might’ve been one of the first drum loops used from start to finish in a pop/rock song.

ELO/Jeff Lynn's founding idea was rocking hard on classical instruments and compositions. The name is a play on a "light orchestra", which is an orchestra with fewer instruments. So that's the sound you're hearing--experimenting with combining classical elements and rock playing and production. Lynn said that he put any more compression on that record, it would play backwards.
I'm a big fan--personal favorites that you may not have played are Can't Get It Out Of My Head, Strange Magic, From The End Of The World, and Yours Truly 2095. Love you guys.

This is the more commercial side of ELO that they started to develop from the mid 70s onwards. Could I recommend you fine gentlemen the track "Showdown" from a few years earlier (1973) which has a much more symphonic progressive rock sound and is in my opinion one of the finest things they ever did. Keep up the good work guys. Enjoying your reactions and analyses tremendously which are amongst the most considered and intelligent on youtube.
