In the first 30 seconds, you described the 97 Rav4 my wife just bought. CV boots are GONE. Left strut is soaked in strut oil that's leaked out. This explains why the car clicks turning left or right and the front suspension bottoms out. 265,000 kilometers on the odometer. So! I'm doing everything. Im also replacing the head gasket and refreshing the top end. Laping the valves and new valve stem seals. The car does run good.
Yes, that's the unfortunate reality of having a 26 year old car. Everything will be worn out. You'll need new springs for sure. You might want to consider the Old Man Emu lift springs. You'll get better ground clearance and it's the same price as buying normal springs. Make sure to buy only Toyota parts. I've had to remove almost every Autozone part I've installed so far. One of my next projects is fixing my front suspension AGAIN. The front fenders are at different heights and I suspect my Autozone struts have something to do with it. Original Toyota CV axles can be as much as $500 each, so you can save some money by going to the junkyard. If you find CV axles with boots that are NOT torn yet, they'll likely be good as new.
you keep saying the impact driver is to weak xD, its because its a driver, you should buy a Impact Wrench, has much torque, you will definitly fell the diference. Great video!!! am learning a lot with you about my 4doors 1997 japanese version.
Thank you for posting this video, I recently had a slip of my tool when trying to remove ball joint in front left, and it caused the large seal on the outer boot to slip off and i tried to repair it with an aftermarket clamp Next day i smell grease and see that its been leaking from the boot all over the inside of the wheel. The aftermarket clamp i used was more narrow than the original clamp. I just got the boot kit from Toyota because even tho my boots are fine, i need new clips and grease, and the only way to get new grease is to buy the kit. This video showed me exactly how to use the clips that came in the new set. Thank you
This is not just the best video I have seen for an auto procedure, it is the best DIY video I have seen on any topic! Congratulations and thanks for your excellent vid!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have a whole video series on the first generation RAV4, so be sure to check out the other videos if you haven't yet.
Thank you Paul for this video. I have a Daily driver 1998 RAV4 5speed 4WD that I bought in 2001. This video series has helped me so much! I refer to your videos for all my RAV4 maintenance needs. 👍
