@@LabCoatPaul I've fixed most underchassis rattles aside from the one coming from the driver side which sounds exactly like yours. All the bushings, stabilizer links, rack end, shock mounting look good. I am waiting for your video on how you would tackle it.
@@starmobile5588 My RAV4 has a rust hole through the front subframe where the left lower control arm mounts. I have a new subframe I plan on installing soon.
I dont have my 99 rav4 anymore, but i loved it. Unfortunately, i rolled it 3 times and totaled it... But i keep watching these because 1st gen rav4s are the best generation of rav4 ever!
if you are worried about the rattle at all, you could potentially add another hanger towards the rear and either weld a bushing on the frame or use a convenient bolt as a mounting point. good luck with the smoky engine
The "extra large", compared to the O.E.M tyres, are causing a multitude of your rattles as there is no "give" or shock absorbing ability in them. Remember the RAV4 was only meant to be a "soft off roader". RAV4 1996 5 door 3SGE manual transmission O.E.M J.D.M owner driver.
I have a rav4 2000, it has started to drop rpms when I'm idle at a light and feels like it wants to stop running. What could the problem be? Any advice? Absolutely love your videos, so helpful.
It sounds like you need to clean the idle air control valve. I don't have a video about it, but L35 in colorado does: ua-cam.com/video/O3yb5RIlqPM/v-deo.htmlsi=7V7BM3oOucraeLk5
hey if i was to remove both cats for better performance for offroad build i am doing with mine, what do you suggest will it improve perofmance becuase mine is very old just got it and its probably clogged. the parts are hard to get by in my country and there are no enforcements on it in my country
Removing a plugged catalytic converter will definitely improve performance and fuel efficiency. The 3s-fe engine is not very clean, so it needs the cat, but if you don’t have emissions testing, you can get away with not installing one. You might get a code P0420 and a check engine light on if you’re missing a catalytic converter.
Hi, Paul! I've been watching your videos for a while, thanks a lot for them! I have a problem with my RAV4, I would be happy if you could give me your opinion on it. I have a 3sfe 1995 AT; ignition with distributor, not coils. Fuel consumption has increased dramatically (about 20 liters per 100 km), sometimes there are misfires when releasing the gas at idle. Gasoline literally flies out of the exhaust in drops. Idle speed fluctuates a little. We tried changing: spark plugs, high-voltage wires, MAP, injectors, fuel filter, fuel pump, timing belt, lambda sensor, throttle valve, coolant temperature sensor and intake air temperature sensor. What we know is that my injector pulse is 3.5ms, and MAP shows 59.3kPA inlet manifold pressure. Other owners say they have 2.4ms 30.6kPA. We thought there was an air leak somewhere in the intake manifold. We tried to check with a smoke generator - nothing was found. Compression in the cylinders is 13. Do you have any thoughts? With best regards
Also - we tried to start the car without the intake pipe, only with the throttle. Exhaust gases came out of it 😭 but the valves in the cylinder head are OK...
@@tianshano It sounds like the car is getting too much fuel. Have you checked the fuel pressure regulator? Pull off the little vacuum hose and smell it. If diaphragm is ruptured in the fuel pressure regulator, it will leak extra gas into the intake through the vacuum hose. Also check your timing belt. If the belt jumped time, you will get an engine that's hard to start and backfires through the intake. Good news: it's a non-interference engine and the valve can't hit the pistons, even when the timing belt is broken. Bad news: Replacing the timing belt is a lot of work.
hey,... the cat needs to heat up to work ... its way to far back and the exhaust pipe is to thin to carry the heat to the cat.. C++ , but these 1st gen ravs are awesome
It's the stock location for the catalytic converter. Toyota didn't think it's too far back. In 1996 and 1997, the RAV4 had a manifold cat and one under the car. In 1998-2000, the RAV4 had only one cat under the car.

Haha mine whistles as well ^^
