Are there any comparative studies between acyclovir, famciclovir, other nucleoside analog antivirals?

Yes there have been studies done comparing aciclovir vs famciclovir, aciclovir vs valaciclovir and famciclovir vs valaciclovir in shingles. All studies seem to point to famciclovir and valaciclovir being at least if not more effective than aciclovir, and have better dosing schedules due to longer half lives 🙂

@@EviePharmacist good to know! I saw was reading a study that suggested famciclovir was associated with lower rates of recurrence if used during a primary HSV infection. Now I have famciclovir on hand if I ever get a cold sore lol!

@evibacarter interesting I haven’t heard of that. Does it mention how early the patients had to take it in the primary outbreak? Would this then be applicable to HSV-2? 🤔
