Easier than facing the rod stamping to the back: ·The rod bearing tangs on the rod and the rod cap seat on the same side as each other (like an old Chevy 350), those bearing tangs need to face the exhaust side of the engine (oil dip-stick side, same side the identification stamp is on). ·The pistons should have an arrow, the arrow should face the front of the engine, towards the crankshaft pulley, not the flywheel, and there should be the larger valve reliefs on the intake side (USUALLY); with the exception being the use of Vitara pistons, because those are from the Suziki Vitara engine, so the arrow will face towards the flywheel of your D-Series engine, since the Vitara engine is oriented opposite of the D16. ·These steps are mission critical to remember while pressing the wrist pins in or to inform the machine shop of them if you have the pistons mated for you.
nice yea video editing is a pain I just picked up a d16a yesterday I'm in the process of swapping my intake manifold over to it from my blown Y8 so I can drop it in.
the d16a came with a alternator my Y8 harness plugs in but colors don't match on the plugs. it's driving me nuts. any feedback if it will work.or should I just swap the Y8 alternator to be safe and avoid the headache.
Connecting harness to the car plugs dont match? Or the alternator? Obd2 alternators use a Different connector plug than the OBD1. You can always wire a 0bd2 plug onto a OBD1 harness. If the connector is square on the alternator its a OBD2 if its Round its obd0-Obd1. Need more info but always here to help
ok it makes sense now that you said obd1 is round.it's square on the harness and on new alternator.for some reason I was thinking it was different. thanks
corbin parvin it has loads more power and with my mini me swap and short gear trans with tune in my ef I beat a few K series. Once it’s tuned and everything is broke in I could see it happening
Saw your "eBay" vid. I'd say the diff is you actually work on cars, and a lot of guys don't. They use a mechanic and mechanics say things like "I only use Felpro" etc and won't install an eBay part. Part is a part. I did buy an eBay alternator for my Accord and it was DOA, but I shipped it back. No biggie.
Hi, Great videos! I'm about to do the a similar build. What work did the machine shop do altogether? Just trying to figure out what to ask them to do with out sounding silly. What sealant did you use for the oil pump and rear main seal housing? I am using King main and rod bearings with YCP P29 pistons. Thanks in advance
I want to ask i swap my d17a with d15b from a dragster garage about engine oil change i ask him he says 4000km or 3.500km or even less with castrol gtx instead of 5000km if the engine is ported and strong is there any reason to change the oil 3000km please i just want to know because also i didn't know (about engine break oil 1000 thing) please can you reply to me
Sergio González Didn’t. I have ran up to 18psi on my turbo build without head studs just to see how long it lasted and it held for over 2 years before I sold the car. But if you can afford the arp then get them for sure just Incase.
Mike Fritz It’s running wix filter. I use the cheap Fram and magnetic drain plug for the first 100miles then drain oil and put in wix then drain again at 400 miles and put another wix. I took pan out checked everything over and it’s all good still. They didn’t have any good filters in stock and they never have them due to Hutchinson being a V8 town where they barley keep Honda spark plugs let alone filters. But the k&n is too expensive to replace 3 times. But checked the bearings and they still look good as new so my method works lol😎
@@JamesDguy A year ago you said you sold your build for $3,500 so you could not Dyno it. 4 months after you said you still own it and it's "still going strong"? What's up?
How could you do all that work and spend that money and not put it on a Dyno? You obviously have the money. How could you not run it on a Dyno for $500?
Yea thats what i used on my head gasket in this video ^ The engine running one is being processed right now. It will be uploaded shortly! Be sure to watch it!!! It runs really good. After its 100% broke in ima do a pull video before tune and after tune then track run it, Both Straight line and circuit.
I would Love to get an engine like this! Anyone have a rebuilt D16Z6 or 9 etc? Just talked to my mechanic and he doesn't want to do a rebuilt... hahaha... I wanted to do a rebuild with him in his shop... I've got a Del Sol. If anyone has a solid engine let me know! Peace!
It was the break in oil filter. Its the only filter they had in stock for my car here in Hutchinsuck, ks lol Small town with trucks so they don't stock honda stuff and most is a 3 day out thing -_- its running WIX now
James D guy I will be on my lsvtec build bro. I really like how you are giving the d series a chance people throw them out. Myself I have given my old y8 for free to a friend to build because it's just easier to build a B series for all motor application
Next car I will 100% give the d series a chance. How are the auto trans d series ? I need auto for the daily ! Traffic is bad where I work so I'd rather not shift after a long hard day at work
gurjinder singh They are not bad as long as they are taken care of. No neutral revving and dropping into gear. But you can not as far as I know tune a automatic ecu. I had a boosted d16 auto but ended up converting to manual so I could tune it. My car pulls pretty good untuned but it really needs a tune. It runs pretty rich with the new setup
James D guy I don't think I'll boost it or anything is probably just a cat delete and a catch can that's about it tbh. It's just going to be a daily not going to drive it hard do you think the d16y8 is a good motor in a 1.6el ?
Easier than facing the rod stamping to the back:

wow looks great. your definitely enjoying this engine build. everything looks so clean fresh. can't wait to see part3
Barbas Life I am enjoying it for sure. I love it and it runs great. I got it in but working on the video so it can be uploaded

James D guy think it'll run with a k series? That's kinda what I'm going after but with a d lol

Great videos man 👍 D-Series on the move. I'm going to be building a D15B8 in the future. Looking forward to seeing more.
6 years later and this video is still fire does everyone get the p29 pistons off ebay ? done more work with the vitara than p29
Good video lots of useful information many other videos don't cover

Thanks most people jump straight to hate and don't realise that AutoZone and oreillys sell more junk parts that the sellers on eBay.
Looks good and will run better
Already running and processing the 3rd final video to this.. The install/Run. Its running so nice!!!!!!

What compression were you aiming for? Stock rods, which head gasket, what head and how much was it milled? Thanks for info.
just saw 12:1 compression
wow, amazing video fam !
thanks to support my song 😊
What's your altitude? 210psi on 12:1 Cr with stock cam doesnt add up for sea level
Looks good

What about timing? How’d you line it up?

Hey james What did you gap your oil control rings i cant find any info on it.? Im doing a vitara build 75mm ycp
Barbas Life I never gapped my oil rings on any of my builds never had a issue
@@JamesDguy ok cool thanks
How is it doing with the stock rods ?
Idk how I stumbled upon this video but is there any reason why the second ring was installed upside down?
jsnyder95 Because i was a idiot and wasn’t paying attention lol 😂 good thing is never had issues 😊
Moore Motorsports James Dguy lol funny how sometimes things like that don't make any difference.
Did not you use arp head studs with 12: 1 compression?

Are those aftermarket piston rods?
Aftermarket pistons but rods are factory with arp connecting rod studs
What kind of oil pan is that
Br4ndon_ V stock y7 oil pan similar to the stock d16z6 or b7 but it only fits the d16y engines
Keep it up
Fram oil filter? I hope that it just there while building.

Did you pre stretch the rod bolts or just run them as they came?
The machine shop did. I took my engine to them to get the rods resized since its always recommended to get the rod resized with new bolts.
James D guy Thanks!
What block are you using
It was a D16y7. I have sold the car since this build and its still going strong!
@@JamesDguy A year ago you said you sold your build for $3,500 so you could not Dyno it. 4 months after you said you still own it and it's "still going strong"? What's up?

ej8 coupe hday project car holmes no idea. Guy offered 3500$ for it so I sold before I dyno it.

what is your head specs?
