today’s date 5/6/2021 .after 4 days training baby finally started sleeping through the night 😁am so happy. my daughter is 9 m old believe it or not use to wake up 6 and 7 times a night .never wanted to do try cry out method since she cried a lot but gentle sleep training worked for me .thank you for sharing.
Here I am going crazy I'm in same situation I feel exhausted stressed tired u name it. She wakes up many times during night and wants me to pick her up breastfeed then she falls asleep sometimes the next 2 3 mins she wakes up or I'm lucky 3 4 hrs go by. I have no idea what to do.
I want to thank you for this video. I watched it twice before embarking on my pick up put down sleep training, and this was the voice playing in my head on the first day. Before sleep training, my 5mo has been sleeping on me, even at night. We are now on day 7 and she falls asleep in the crib with minor help from me (to get out of the push up position, which makes her super mad). Never thought I’d see it with my own eyes. So, thank you!!
What I loved most about this video that articles didn’t mention was that your baby WILL cry, maybe even for hours but the gentleness comes from your reassurance and presence not from lack of crying 😭! This makes me feel a lot better and want to continue with my angry tempered baby! Lol thank you so much for this super informative & coming from experience vid 🥰
@@refilwenetta6136 tbh I ended up doing cry it out bc I found pick up put down was too much stimulation for her and Ferber just made her more mad. I would cry with her sometimes lol but it never lasted too long and I found talking through the monitor helped her calm down a lot faster! It’s been almost 3 years and she was a GREAT sleeper after sleep training and did great for naps, but now she’s back in our bed (we moved to a 2 story home and she’s afraid to be upstairs alone understandably lol) and I’m cosleeping with our second 😅
Oh my gosh! We tried this for the first time last night with our 9 month old. She was asleep in 25 minutes. First nap today she wiggled around for about 10 seconds and was OUT. I’m looking forward for what is to come after a week or so. She was getting up 5+ times a night every night. We only had to repeat this process twice last night. But it worked! I sent your videos to my sister to use in the future with her baby. Thank you so much!!!!
I looked at both of your videos and I'll absolutely try this method today. I pray it works but I'll just keep consistent with it until it does. Thank you for taking the time to explain this and your previous video showing an example. You're so kind and such a loving mom. Your little is so adorable.
I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible video you created. It's evident that you are a genuine person with a remarkable talent for delivering information in a clear and empathetic manner. Your video resonated deeply with us, and we found your approach to be refreshingly effective. Our situation mirrors yours closely, and while we've faced disappointments with other methods in the past, "your" method seems to be the missing piece for us. Thank you for putting in the hard work and being a guiding force for numerous parents navigating similar challenges. After just four days our 12-month-old is sleeping so much better, we only had one wake up last night. We appreciate your dedication and the positive impact you've had on our family. Thank you once again.
Thank you so much, I couldn't stomach CIO and this seems to be working! My 15 month old fell into frequent night waking after getting his molars and some illnesses, and the things that worked when he was a baby were not working. We started with night weaning, that only took 3 days. Now we are doing the pick-up put-down and after a few days he only woke up once last night! Going to keep going, though I noticed that picking him up for a few seconds actually helps him go back down faster even though he is over 12 months and can stand up. He just likes to put his head on my shoulder for a bit while I sing to him and then once he even asked to go back to his crib. Most of the time he is settling himself back down though so I think we are getting close!
Omg THANK YOU, this is the first video (with the first one you made) that is really helpful and gives me confidence to start the transition for my 1 year old 🙏
Thank you for this video I've been struggling with sleep training my son but I think this is great and I will start trying this method. You touched a lot on vewy similar issues I am dealing with and that makes me feel a lot better because a lot of times books and articles only tell you what your doing wrong and make you feel worse about it.
PLEASE HELP: Yes! This method worked and was a miracle at the perfect time, just prior to giving birth to our second son. Now, our sleep trained 2 year old wakes 2-3X crying until we go in to lay him down and wait in the chair until he falls asleep... THIS IS EXHAUSTING! How do we resolve.
Thank you so much for making these videos and being so detailed. I really appreciate it. I have a 12 month old that I want to transition to the crib from bed sharing. I tried the cry it out way and had to stop after two weeks. Crying by himself to go to sleep plus crib is still in our room. We're going to try the method you used and put his crib in his own room. Thank you for being honest about how long it took and how many times we might have to place our baby back down before they fall asleep.
Hi Jas, I use to have the same problem with my little girl, she was waking up crying in the night-time but after I put into practice the methods presented in this Parenting Cours tinyurl.com/syfb4jw8 she sleeps all night long and my and my wife can sleep to. I wish you all the best
thank you so much! Your video helped us a lot! We were stuck in the process amd your suggestions helped break the ice and we were finally successful. Others don't talk about how much crying is expected, what's the difference in the process between a 5 month old and a 1.5 year old, etc. The key for us was that we didn't pick up our 18 month child, only laid him back down when he got out of his bed. Even though we had to do this exactly 102 times, it was much faster and more efficient than what we did until now. This only took a half an hour
Hey I am sleep training and before your video I was too scared to do sleep training. Even though this is my third child. Things were different with the other two and so sleep training never happened. But this time I've felt your support. I love this video, you cover so many fears and real feelings. XxX
Extremely sleep deprived mom, here. Who's accepted the 3 hours it takes me to get my LO to bed as my lot in life. 😩 Im going to try this tonight when my 12 month old wakes in the middle of the night. This has to be better than the 2 - 3 hours I spend trying to put him down without him crying every time.
Thank you. My 16 month old was sleep trained at 8 months. Due to prolonged sickness we also fell back into multiple night wakings and feeding/holding back to sleep. Going to try this and update. ❤
Hi! I watched this and your first video and thank you so much for this. It really helps in having a plan and hope for sleep trough the night! But ;) we hope you can help us because we started and we have a hysterical almost 12 month old. We do the PU/PT because we thought she is too young for only putting down. First night sleep routine was a winner. 73 times picking up and 45 minutes later she slept and the whole night! But this afternoon and tonight she was hysterical. First I thought it was me because the first two (last night and morning nap) my husband did it. I did the afternoon and because of hysteria my husband took the evening sleep. So long story short (sorry!). When she is quiet we put her immediately down and when she start crying we pick her up and sush and rock her till she is quiet again. But with every minute passing she gets more frustrated until she is hysterical and the comforting takes a long time. After an hour or one and a half she is so tired of screaming she falls a sleep in my arms. But that’s not the point right? She should fall a sleep in her bed not in our arms? Or should we be more patience and will this pass by? Hope you can help us and tell what we can adjust 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks dear for this video, I tried it and it works perfect 👍🏻 my 10 months old son wakes up at 5:30 at the first night training, I Brest feed him and he fell asleep on me, I did it wrong? Before even with feeding he woke up at this time. I thought he is hungry and he will play after feeding like every day, should I let him to fall asleep on his own tomorrow morning? At this time. Between 5-6 am I mean, thanks 🙏🏻
Thank you for all the tips. Watched your two videos today which armed me with the confidence to start the method tonight. She was asleep after 40 mins, I was gobsmacked! There were lots of tears (both hers and mine -silently!) but ultimately was a great method for us as I knew she still had me right by her, just not cuddling her! Fingers crossed for the rest of the night and nap times tomorrow which could prove tricky but I am hoping I stay strong for both our sakes. Thanks again for such informative reassuring videos x
My daughter will be 1 mid-June. She used to sleep so great and something changed about a month and a half ago (around when she started walking) and it’s a different struggle every other time I need to put her down. So I’ve done some research and I think I’ll try this. My question is this: she’s had the exact same sleep routine since day one (6:15 dad gives her a bath, then I put her in jammies, book read by daddy while mom rocks, lights out, breastfeed, lay down awake at 7ish). Her dad stays in the room with us until we both leave at 7. It generally works but recently it’s about a 75% success rate and I’ll have to go back and repeat the nursing and rocking. Naps are a 100% mess right now. So if I implement the “put down” method for naps, I assume I need to implement for nighttime too? Do I send her dad away after the book? I don’t want to eliminate him from bedtime but she has never in 11 months gone down without a fight and a short sleep when he tries. I think she just assumes he’s kidding because he’s all games (she’s got him wrapped around her little finger).
My daughter is 20 months and for the past 3 weeks she's been waking at 01:00 and, if we're lucky, she'll fall asleep by 05:00...else she falls asleep in the car when taking her to nursery school. I want to try this method because I'm so desperate for a good night's rest. Please tell me it's not too late 😞
Your Q&A was very helpful for me I have a 4 month old baby im trying pick up and put down for sleep training her , she goes to sleep after 20 minutes of crying but wakes up with in 30 minutes please suggest how to extend her nap time from 30 minutes to 1/2 hour
Would you recommend this for 9 month old? He gets up in his crib and stands over and over, don’t want to do Ferber or just the chair method, I want him to stop getting/standing up
Hi. I tried dis method bcz it sounds better than CIO which i tried n i cudnt do. By PU/PD, my baby took 1hr 20mins on the first night to fall asleep. However she woke up 20mins later. N she took almost two hrs to settle down on her own after dat! She again self settled her in the morning widout any shush or pat n slept on her own. But the problem is wenevr she sleeps on her own she wakes up 45 mins later! Wat might b the problem? She is 5 months old. P.S.: i love how u have done ur study bcz it shows in ur answers. Like ur honesty😊
This is so informative and reassuring that CIO isn't the only method! My baby is 5 1/2 months and slept great until the 4-month regression but we've always bounced him to sleep. I'm on night two and bouncing just a little when I do the pick up because it seems like he won't calm down without it, so any thoughts on if that's ok for now as long as we're bouncing less and less. Also, a dream feed helped cut down wakings to feed before we started PU/PD - do you recommend I keep doing the dream feed 2 hours after bed with this method? Lastly, we've started this method in his bassinet while he's still in our room but want to transfer to crib in his own room ASAP. Should we do this method until it works consistently before we transfer or should we continue right away in his crib/own room so he doesn't get confused or regress when we make the transfer if we have success before we move him? Thank you!
I need to be consistent and have a set routine for my son’s nap(s) and bedtime. My son HATES his crib. He just wants to co-sleep. So we decided to try this for bedtime one night a few days ago and it took 30 minutes. He woke up 4 hours later and was crying. An hour and a half later of crying, out of frustration and exhaustion, we gave in and put him in our bed. A couple days later, we tried it for nap time and it took 10 minutes.
So crazy hard question what should I do if I'm (dad) is ready to start this but my wife isn't, my wife says this method is mean and heartless and I cant convince her that it's not and for some reason now my child won't go to bed before 2 or 3 am
@@HelloKittyNerd_ I use to have the same problem with my little girl, she was waking up crying in the night-time but after I put into practice the methods presented in this Parenting Cours tinyurl.com/syfb4jw8 she sleeps all night long and my and my wife can sleep to. I wish you all the best
Hi, I followed the chair method with my 9 month old and she was falling asleep by herself within 4 days, it really worked! BUT.... I have a question, it's been over a month now and my daughter is still very upset if I leave the room while she's awake, it's probably separation anxiety kicking in, but I was wondering, when can I start leaving the room and not wait for her to fall asleep and then quietly leave, and how do I go about it? Thanks
Hi Kristen. Your method completely worked for me very well. My 11 month old now falls asleep on his own within 5 minutes at night and for naps. He sleeps straight from 7:30/8:00 until 4:30/5:00 and then he wakes up and refuses to go back to sleep. Sometimes he goes back to sleep but always wakes up by 5:30. I try to breast feed then but he just doesn’t go back to sleep. Please help me.
Thank you for this! How do you handle the naps if you’re not home? Ie visiting relatives with the baby and no crib to ‘put down’. She is usually carried or nursed to sleep.
I have a bed routine but how do I know my baby (7month) has nursed enough to last him through the night. He’s very stubborn and will cry hysterically to get his way. He’s very used to being nursed to sleep and wakes 5+ a night 😩.
As long as you are nursing every 3-4 hours during the day, and he is draining both sides, plus a really good feeding right before bed, then you can have peace of mind that he isn't hungry - just mad that he can't nurse to sleep anymore. You know your baby best though and if he truly seems hungry, feed him that night, then the next day try to add 1 or 2 more feedings so that you know he's getting enough calories. My oldest son was like that, nursing 3-4x a night, and finally I just said "no" and the next day he ate more and after 3 days was getting all he needed during the day and started sleeping through at night.
Hi! My husband and I have a now nine month old. We’ve been rocking her to sleep the past three months now and NEED to do something different, so we are wanting to give this approach a try. Two questions - will this approach work if my husband and I trade off in the night or does it need to be the same caregiver the whole time? Second, we live in a one bedroom and room share with our baby - will this approach work with us in the room after they’ve gone to sleep?
Hiya, thank you for your videos. They have been so helpful and instilled confidence to do this. We started this last night with our 11 month old. It went relatively well with the longest pick up/put down time of 1 HR 45. She also wroke up at 5 an crying for a short period before going to sleep on her own which is unheard of! Gentle shushing, humming twinkle twinkle and placing a hand on her stomach from time to time helped through the worst of it. This afternoon she didn't get up once and settled herself in 14 mins.1 question though - for her naps and before bed time she always has a milk feed and sometimes will fall asleep. Is this ok? She will often wake up when she's placed in the cot so I start the process then or whenever she wakes up. Thanks again for your help - for the first time I have hope we may sleep again!
So glad it's working!! And to answer your question: It's fine to continue giving her milk feed. Just make sure to wake her up before laying down (which it sounds like she's doing anyways!) that way she is doing the work of learning to fall asleep and also remembers that she fell asleep in her crib vs your arms. Great job mama!
Thank you so much for this video. My little guy sounds just like yours! I still have a question about illness: Do you comfort baby by any means necessary i.g., rocking, feed to sleep, and picking up? I found that I give him what ever he wants while sick (and he gets sick a lot) then I have to re sleep train. Is this the right approach?
Yeah, so that's actually why I had to sleep train. My son was sleeping through the night from 4 months to about 6 months, then he started getting recurring ear infections. So I comforted to sleep often because of worry and wanting him to feel better. Now after sleep training, whenever he was sick I'd comfort with rocking, but as soon as the fever was gone I'd go back to him sleeping on his own.
Kristin & Co. ok great yeah I figured. Just kind of do what you need to while they are not feeling well, than back to it when they’re better! Thanks so much for all the info. You gave me some hope for light at the end of the tunnel. We are on day two and sleeping through the night 🤞🏻
I need some suggestions my daughter and her first baby she's 14 months old she's been co-sleeping this entire time and she has her in one of those low bed cribs how can we do this? should we do a real crib now or try to just work it with the bed she has?
Hi! We’ve been doing your method for about 2 months now and it has been WONDERFUL. Our baby started sleeping through the night and taking long naps pretty much as soon as we started this. I sing your praises (and share your videos with all my mom friends.) My daughter is about 13 months now and still sleeping great, but it takes upwards of an hour to get her down now. It was going great and then something changed and it went from taking 20 minutes to get her to sleep to now she won’t lay still and seriously plays for over an hour as we try to keep laying her back down. Any thoughts how to get her to calm down faster? She’s tired when we put her in her bed but she just refuses to fall asleep! I’m going crazy.
Hey! It's a developmental leap. Just stay consistent and it will go back to normal soon. Try giving her lots of stimulation during the day so that she can practice skills she is learning (talking, walking, etc.) That way she's gotten it out of her system by bedtime.
Hi Kristin, this is such a helpful video!!! Probably the most thorough one I’ve seen. could you clarify the part regarding starting with night time sleep vs naps? So if I start this method with bedtime only, should I still rock/bounce to sleep for naps? Or next day should I do the method with naps as well? Thank you !
Kristin & Co. great thanks !! Hoping this works for us. She is napping on us during the day and won’t let us put her down 😩I love her but I can’t do anything else and this social distancing isn’t helping since I have no help and hubby works.
My 1 year old only sleeps when we carry him, is my fault cause since he was born, I would carry him and he eventually falls a sleep, but he’s heavy now and my back is hurting. I will try this method tomorrow, wish me good luck 🙂
I'm on day 4 of training. My baby seems to go down easier at bedtime. Yesterday it took about 20 minutes. However, he will only lie down if my hand is stroking his back. I try to stop the stroking and then just leave my hand still on his back and he falls asleep. When I don't do this he jumps back up faster than I can put him down and he will be hysterical. Is what I'm doing wrong? Am I creating another sleep association for my baby by having my hand on his back
We are transitioning away from co-sleeping into the crib, but we also have a bed that we have been using in the same room. She is 4 months today, and we’ve dabbled with this the last couple days (trying to figure it out). Are you saying if we sleep in the same room it could take months? Or if we co-sleep/bedside bassinet sleep? Do you suggest we go into the other room? definitely don’t want it to take months!
We sleep in the same room as baby , his crib was attached to ours but now we separated the crib. Yesterday we started this with our 14month old..he took 50 mins for his nap and 35 mins for night sleep but when he woke up during the night, he was crying but not standing up..I waited for over 5 mins and tried comforting him with words and patting. He didn't stop crying. I couldn't bear and nursed him to sleep🙄 What should i do when he cries but doesn't stand up.. Thanks a ton ❤️
Thanks a lot for your information. I notice bout my son when I put him down drowsy, he often turns over and crawls. Do I let him do so or I should pick him up once he crawls? I hope I can get ur reply soon so I can get started doing this method. Many thanks.
Hi Kristin! Thank you so much for this video, it is very helpful for us and we have a good progress on teaching our son to fall asleep without the association of breast feeding. Anyway, I wanted to ask you about the day naps - he wakes up every 45 minutes and I rush into the room to calm him down and put him back to sleep. Is that Ok or should I keep calming in order to have longer naps during the day. He is 7 months. How long these naps should be? Thank you in advance!!
You can take turns doing the routine, but don't switch out in the middle of it. So if the baby is still awake and you decide to leave so your husband can take over, then he would basically be starting all over because it's confusing to the baby and doesn't understand why you're leaving (kinda like fomo). But lets say you do the bedtime routine, then your husband goes in the first wake-up to resettle, then you go in the next time etc. That's fine and will work.
Your best bet is to figure out what the daycare napping schedule is and replicate it at home. I wouldn't worry about how they put the baby to sleep. Kids tend to sleep better at daycare than at home
@@KristinCo Wife and I did this last night. When we put him to bed, it took him approximately 30 minutes to fall asleep. However, when we woke up at 11:50PM, it took him nearly 2 hours to asleep using the P/U P/D method. Hoping tonight is better!
So I hope you receive this with all things well in your world. I was wondering if this method still works when a caregiver picks him up in the middle of the night and carries them to bed with them?
PLS HELP. I just started sleep training using this method last night but my 14 month old baby wakes up at 5 am. How do I know if she’s awake for the day or she just woken herself up and might go back to sleep? Should I put her to sleep again or get her out of the crib for the day
If a baby learns self soothing initially at , say 6 m.o., via the CIO method and it works, but down the road has a regression (for whatever reason), say around 8 m.o.- do you think it would be OK to go to the PU/PD method for the next/later round of sleep training? Since it's been a couple months in-between, do you think it makes a difference?
Hi I’ve been doing this method for 3 days now and I see a little result but it’s killing me. Because I normally nap with my now 4 and half month daughter all the nap and that last sometimes 2-3 hours in one nap and for bedtime I’ll co sleep with her in our bed and when she’s in deep sleep we will transfer her to crib. Now that I’ve tried this she sleep now on her crib all nap and bedtime ( still not perfect because sometimes it took me 40 min to 1hrs to bring her to nap and bedtime and sometimes in just took me 1 minute like a magic ) now I’m thinking if it ok to that I’ll do this all the nap and bedtime in her crib her bedtime 6:30 to 7pm and when she’s in deep sleep at 11 or 12 I’ll do dreamfeed and transfer her to our room because the last 3 days of not sleeping with her is killing me deep inside and I’m just crying and broken. I miss co sleeping with her because now we don’t sleep at nap and also at evening and I’m just really broken
Thanks for the video! My 8-month baby can usually put himself to sleep during naps, meaning I can just put him down in the crib and leave the room right away. He will go to sleep himself after 1-15 minutes, cry a little or no cry at all, depending on the day. But he cannot do it at night. If I only do this pick-up/put down method at night, and leave immediately for day naps, does it count as inconsistant?
I love these videos, and am getting ready to implement this method with my 18 month old. I know it will take longer due to her age, but I'm wondering what do I do when she wakes up in the middle of the night? Do I go right in immediately and start the routine over?? Also, is it ok to change her diaper and then do the pick up put down method for the middle of the night wakings?
I'd wait a little bit, maybe 5 to 10 minutes to see if she settles. If she doesn't then yeah, you do the routine over just like at bedtime. And unless there is poop or she's soaked, the diaper change will just wake her up more and make it harder. I used the Pampers baby dry and that kept both of my boys dry until morning. Hope that helps!
Hi Kristin, Thanks for the video. We have an 8 month old and we are training him to sleep after watching your video. We had a question, is it ok to get him drowsy by rocking him and then placing him in the cot to settle and sleep? He is waking 2-3 hours and we are room sharing. He is in a cot currently. Every time we put him down, he cries so we have to pick him immeditately rock and walk fro 30 seconds approximately until he is quiet and back into cot. After the 4-5 time, he doesnt cry when put in the cot and goes to sleep. Are we winning here?
I tried this method with my son when he was four to six months old and it worked wonders but now he's too and his sleeping patterns have grown erratic. I tried going back to this method but he just screams uncontrollably. I do a routine of bed bath and books but once I put him in the crib he goes into intense crying and will not accept pats or words. How can I walk the intensity down of his reactions to the sleep method without stressing him or me out
My husband and I are going to try this with our 15 month old. At daycare they have sleep trained him for naps but we were curious…do you recommend only 1 parent doing this with the baby or can both?
Thank you for providing an alternative to cry it out. I have a question even after watching your videos multiple times. We just started this today with our 9 month old. After 15 minutes of picking up and putting down, I noticed that he was stuttering for breath (hyperventilation) a little when he would stop crying. Do we still continue when he starts doing this or wait until his breathing is normal and then put him down again? In today's situation I waited for a minute for his breathing to return to normal and when I put him back down he was already asleep. Not ideal I know.
Hey! Thanks for the great video, I am on the second day of training and we suddenly have an urgent 2 days trip out the city, shall I take my babies bed with me and continue in the hotel?! Or stop and restart in few weeks?
No, I think you can do it! Just don't rock or nurse to sleep and make sure the baby is falling asleep in their own space. Even if the crib is in your room, as long as you follow those guidelines sleep will get better
@@KristinCo Hi Kristin, my 14 month old is teething and not eating properly and neither taking bottle only depends on me for breastfeed. He is waking up at night 4-5 times.suggest me how i stop breastfeeding and make him sleep through night.
Start by dropping one feed at a time, every three days, until you are no longer feeding at night. Just make sure to feed more during the day to make up for the lost calories
Hi there, I’m hoping someone can help me. We followed this method for our 13 month old and it worked AMAZINGLY-he’s now sleeping through the night mostly, aside from some morning wakings from time to time. But what we’re not sure how to do now is how to get to the point of putting him down and leaving the room. I’ve been sitting crib-side for the past month. Do I just gradually sit farther and farther until eventually I leave the room and come in when he cries? Thanks so much to anyone who can help
What was your son’s schedule like while you were doing this? I am currently trying to transition my 15 month old to 1 nap instead of 2, but he only sleeps for 1 hour and he gives us a hard time for bedtime. I feel like he’s overtired and I’m becoming confused as to how long his wakeup times should be before his first nap and before bed if he only naps for an hour. I would really love to try this method, but feel like I need to figure out his schedule first. Any advice? Thank you!
At 15 months it really depends on your toddler. Ours would take a 1 to 1.5 hour nap with a 30 minute catnap in the afternoon when he was transitioning. We would wake him up after 30 minutes otherwise he wouldn't be tired enough for bed, but if he didn't have that little nap he'd be too overstimulated. After a few months we started noticing he wasn't as fussy in the afternoon so we just dropped it. That was around 19 months for us
My baby will be one when I start this method and he currently co sleeps with me and I breastfeed him to sleep every time he wakes up, do I just stop feeding him at night? He doesn’t take a bottle
Your son is precious! So my son is 16 months old and we started doing this method. He doesn’t get up when he is crying but he dose lay there and cry “mama!” when he has woken up the last nights. I tend to wait a couple of minutes but you mentioned it’s ok to comfort him. How would that look like? He tends to reach for my hand and wants to hold it... sometimes laying my hand on his chest helps sooth him too. But, is this going to hurt the sleep training? Thank you so much for your great videos, they have helped a lot.
It's fine to comfort if they are upset. If he isn't crying or anything just sitting next to the bed and comforting with words is best. At 16 months old too much touch will actually stimulate and keep them awake longer. It sounds silly, but also, don't give eye contact. Just comfort without being engaging in any way if that makes sense. So they know you are there for them, but also that it's not time to play. I hope that helps!
This was soooooo helpful, thank you! I have one question still, though: how should I know when my baby is ready to wake up from sleeping at night? He's almost 6 months old and has never slept as much as everyone says he should. Also, he sleeps in my arms all night long and I think he likes it so much he doesn't want to get up. However, he wakes up ALL NIGHT LONG so maybe he's still just tired. We usually go to bed between 8 and 9, and he gets up between 7 and 9 in the morning. It's never really consistent, and I pretty much just get him up when it's getting really hard to resettle him. But considering he's going to be angry and unsettled during this training, how do I know when to stop trying to make him go back to sleep?
Hey! At 6 months, your baby should be getting around 11 hours of uninterrupted sleep at night. He's definitely tired if you are holding him all night and resettling him when he wakes etc. I recommend a bedtime of 7 or 7:30 with a wake up of 6:30 or 7. This seems to bed the most natural sleep times for most babies. However, definitely read your baby's signals on when sleepy or not. Also, you want to aim for at least 2 to 3 naps during the day at this age, anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hrs long.
I feel like my 16 month old got this down on his own during his regression going on right now 🙃 but he just looks at me sitting there waiting for him to fall asleep as you say and when he does (takes forever) and he sees I’m gone he cries all over again. Would I go back in and do it all over again or let him cry it out a little. Help 😅
No. Since she is in a different environment with its own routine for naps, she won't get confused with what you do at home. She will just associate you and your method with bedtime in her room and then associate her nap times at daycare as specific to that place. Hope that makes sense!
This is soooo helpful! My baby has her first teeth coming through. She is 11 months. Should I sleep train at night while she is teething or wait? Thanks so much!
Hi Kristin, I’m eager to try this method with my 4 month old because he has been sleeping in my arms since birth for both naps and night time and it’s been exhausting. Is it ok to start doing this in his bassinet since we plan to have him sleep in our room until we buy a crib when he’s 6 months? Also, do you let them cry a bit for a specific amount of time before you pick them up each time? And what if it takes them a while if crying when held, do you just keep soothing them by rocking/holding them upright until they quite down before putting them back down?
Sorry I also forgot to ask, if they start making a hungry cry, are you allowed to feed them once you’ve started the process? And moving forward can you feed them at night if they wake up once they leave to sleep independently using this method?
I did the pick up put down method with my daughter when she was 10m. But she had her own room so it was a little easier.... my son Is 8 months but we share a room so I'm a little worried about trying with him. I was thinking of doing it when he starts to stand so I don't have to pick him all the way up and just lay him back down.
I tried this methid at bedtime and it took 40 mins of crying and hundreds of PUPD before baby fell asleep. And then baby woke up just 30 minutes later and I repeated PUPD for 10 minutes. But then baby woke up after only 10 minutes this time, at which point he wqs inconsolably crying and I couldn't even calm him down when picking him up. Any suggestions, or is this just not a good method for our 5 month old baby?
My baby’s naps are really bad and inconsistent. I try to do a schedule but since he’s always tired or not sleeping when it’s time it always fails. Please help me
Thank you for this video! When you are helping the baby resettle during the night, do you stay with them until they fall back asleep? Or leave the room and keep coming back in
Hi there, This video was really helpful, thank you! My partner and I started implementing this with our 6 month old and it has drastically improved her sleep - we're on day 5 now. The only issue we seem to have is between 4-6am (she wakes up usually at 6am) where she struggles to settle and I am just picking up and putting down for that time. Am I doing the right thing but pushing through until her usual wake up time (6am)? It feels like this is the last bit to crack and then it will be great! Her only feed in the night now is around 2am but there was one night where she didn't wake up until 4am for a feed then slept until 7am so we're thinking of maybe trying to settle her without a feed at 2am (if she allows) and feed her when she wakes after that. Does this sound like a good idea to you? Thank you!
Yes, this is actually very common and my son got stuck on a 5am wakeup for a bit. Try moving the nighttime feed back an hour, so 3am, and after a week move to 4am, then to 5am, and keep doing that every week until you get to your desired wakeup time
Thank you for this video! I've just started to sleep train my 1 year old and usually I rock him to calm him, wait until he closes his eyes but is not completely asleep before putting him down. In your experience, do you think I've rocked him too long already? Should I put him down earlier, even before he closes his eyes?
Thanks a lot, this video helped me, comforted me. Someone asked about waking after 35 mins. My 7.5 m wakes up after 25-30 mins she sits up or stand up but she is still sleepy and wants to go back to sleep. Should I pick her up or try to get her back to sleep?
Yes, especially if she still seems sleepy. I have a follow up video talking about ways to make naps longer etc plus other issues you might face in sleep training. Give it a watch and let me know if you still have questions! ua-cam.com/video/-XDn0j3UdHw/v-deo.html
@@KristinCo I'm interested in the tips for extending naps as well but the link that you shared for the follow up video is the same link as the one for this video. I tried to search for the video, but didn't have any success. Could you share the right link please? Thanks
The method was successful for my baby! We dedicated a couple of weeks to it as we worked our way from a 10pm bedtime to a 7:30pm. Now that he sleeps earlier, he has been waking up at 4-4:30am. Will he eventually learn to sleep through until 6ish, 7ish? Thanks in advance!
That's great! And yes, he will eventually. Our son got stuck waking at 5am for a few weeks, but we just kept laying him back down until the time we wanted him to wake up. We never made it to 7am, but he wakes at 6:30 which was good enough for us!
I made a comment on the other vedio before finding this one (which was very helpful and made me feel better) but I still have some questions. If my 13 month old stays laying down but still cry’s calling for me should I let it be ? Crying it out method he wakes crying all night. Tonight was the first night trying this I read him a story while he ate a bottle in his crib then laying him down after. He also wakes at night (I think out of comfort mostly?) wanting to eat, if I don’t give him one and let him fuss while half asleep he usually wakes himself then doesn’t want to sleep again. What do you recommend and when should I try it.
Hi Marisa, I use to have the same problem with my little girl, she was waking up crying in the night-time but after I put into practice the methods presented in this Parenting Cours tinyurl.com/syfb4jw8 she sleeps all night long and my and my wife can sleep to. I wish you all the best
Hey my little one used to sleep though the night after we switched her from our bed to her crib but for the past few months she has ended up back in our bed she is supper attached bro me and screams Everytime I try this what would u recommend?
The longer you wait the harder it gets screaming/crying wise, especially if she knows that eventually she'll just end up in your bed. She has believe that once she is in her crib, she's going to be there the entire night. There will be crying/screaming the first three days, but after that, if your are consistent, she will stop crying and after a week or so she'll sleep through the night again
today’s date 5/6/2021 .after 4 days training baby finally started sleeping through the night 😁am so happy.
my daughter is 9 m old believe it or not use to wake up 6 and 7 times a night .never wanted to do try cry out method since she cried a lot but gentle sleep training worked for me .thank you for sharing.
My baby is 9 months and she nurses to sleep 3-5 sometimes more a night. I'm hoping soon I can try this out and me and her can get some sleep
I'm so glad! ♡
This gives me hope, I’m about to sleep train my bed sharing & contact napping 5 month old this way. Thankyou for this comment
YESSS. It took me a while to realize that too. My kids are very happy and well rested now thanks to this method!
How did you manage with the crying
Yay! I'm so glad it helped!
So true. And every baby is different!
PLEASE HELP:
Yes! This method worked and was a miracle at the perfect time, just prior to giving birth to our second son. Now, our sleep trained 2 year old wakes 2-3X crying until we go in to lay him down and wait in the chair until he falls asleep... THIS IS EXHAUSTING! How do we resolve.
I tried your method for afternoon nap, it works!! I will try for bedtime tonight.

Thank you so much!
I've been listening to you in my earphones while going through the sleep routine , it's made it easier
Of course! Hope y'all all start sleeping soon ♡ let me know how it goes!
thank you so much!
OMG.................. I tried this for his 1st nap of the day and he fell asleep within 15 minutes!!!! Thank you so, so, so much!
Well done! So happy it was helpful :)
I found this video super helpful! Thank you so much!
Great video ❤
What to do during travel? And jet lag?
Your Q&A was very helpful for me
I have a 4 month old baby im trying pick up and put down for sleep training her , she goes to sleep after 20 minutes of crying but wakes up with in 30 minutes please suggest how to extend her nap time from 30 minutes to 1/2 hour
Would you recommend this for 9 month old? He gets up in his crib and stands over and over, don’t want to do Ferber or just the chair method, I want him to stop getting/standing up
Do you turn off all the lights? My 9 month old seems scared when i do
So informative and infinitely helpful. Thank you!!!
I'm so glad ☺️
Thank you!
THANKS FOR YOUR SLEEP TRAINING VIDEOS :)
Thankyou for your videos I’m about to start this training with my 5 month old who won’t sleep anywhere but me, wish me luck
You got this!
Did it work? My baby 5 month won't slp either 😢

Thank you so much for this video ❤
So helpful. Thank you.
I sing your praises (and share your videos with all my mom friends.)
My daughter is about 13 months now and still sleeping great, but it takes upwards of an hour to get her down now.
Thank you !
Hey! Once you start keep the routine the same for nap and bedtime. So no more rocking or bouncing
Am I creating another sleep association for my baby by having my hand on his back
Hi Kristin, how did you put the baby to sleep before sleep training?
Hi I know this is a older video but I am thinking about starting this method. But what if I share a room with my baby?
I couldn't bear and nursed him to sleep🙄
What should i do when he cries but doesn't stand up..
Can you do this method if he sleep in the same room with us in crib ?
Can my husband and I switch out? Or does this need to consistently be the same parent?
You can take turns doing the routine, but don't switch out in the middle of it. So if the baby is still awake and you decide to leave so your husband can take over, then he would basically be starting all over because it's confusing to the baby and doesn't understand why you're leaving (kinda like fomo). But lets say you do the bedtime routine, then your husband goes in the first wake-up to resettle, then you go in the next time etc. That's fine and will work.
How do I move my baby to the crib once she is asleep or do I wait until she is in a deep sleep and then move her
Suggestions for napping at daycare. We are going to try sleep training at home but what should we do about keep a routine at daycare.
Ok,just one more question, what about breastfeeding?does that mean I have to stop it?
Hello! Thanks so mucho for this video! I watched the first video related with this method , I am in day 5 and he still wakes up every 2 hours! 😢
So I hope you receive this with all things well in your world. I was wondering if this method still works when a caregiver picks him up in the middle of the night and carries them to bed with them?
such a helpful video, wow, loved it :)
Thanks! I'm so glad ☺️
No, that's great! Keep doing naps the same because that is what you are working towards with bedtime too.
@@KristinCo Got it. I will try this method right away. Thanks again Kristin!
But what about a 6 week old? Too early for sleep training I know. So what do we do?
@@KristinCo thank you!!!!!!
How can I walk the intensity down of his reactions to the sleep method without stressing him or me out
Wonderful! Thank you!
The hyperventilation is just from crying and is not usually harmful. But you know your baby best and should always put safety first!
It’s so hard with twins. Currently trying and they are 15 months old🥲
Hey! Thanks for the great video, I am on the second day of training and we suddenly have an urgent 2 days trip out the city, shall I take my babies bed with me and continue in the hotel?! Or stop and restart in few weeks?
I live in a one bedroom apartment. Do you think sleep training will be super difficult for my baby?
No, I think you can do it! Just don't rock or nurse to sleep and make sure the baby is falling asleep in their own space. Even if the crib is in your room, as long as you follow those guidelines sleep will get better
You are awesome. Thank you so much for this video. I’ve tried other methods and this one is golden. God bless you

Hi Kristin, my 14 month old is teething and not eating properly and neither taking bottle only depends on me for breastfeed.
Will this work with my 8 month old, she’s been co-sleeping for 3.5 months
Help 😅
Hi thanks for this video, what do we do if our baby is in day care? Would they have to do the method with her during nap time ??
You can start! Just use tylenol for pain
@@KristinCo Thanks much for the quick response and advice!
Hi! You said you would show us but I didn’t see any clips where that happens. Did I miss it? My baby was crying so I had to skim the video.
Does she need two naps since her second nap is sooo late can i make her nap earlier or her bedtime earlier she sleeps at 8pm
Do you keep white noise throughout the night or nap time or switch off once they in deep sleep ?
We keep it on the whole time. We live in the city, so we like it as a buffer from outside noises that could potentially wake them up.
Try moving the nighttime feed back an hour, so 3am, and after a week move to 4am, then to 5am, and keep doing that every week until you get to your desired wakeup time
@@KristinCo Fab! Thank you so much :)
njaysea starting this soon! How is your baby’s sleep now?
Thank you for this video! I've just started to sleep train my 1 year old and usually I rock him to calm him, wait until he closes his eyes but is not completely asleep before putting him down. In your experience, do you think I've rocked him too long already? Should I put him down earlier, even before he closes his eyes?
You can rock as long as you or he wants! As long as he's drowsy but not asleep when you lay him down. That way he's learning how to do it on his own
@@KristinCo great! Thank you, that is also what I figured. You're videos were great! Thanks for filming it! 😊
Kristin & Co. Thank you so much for your answer you are the best 🌸
Hi Marisa, I use to have the same problem with my little girl, she was waking up crying in the night-time but after I put into practice the methods presented in this Parenting Cours tinyurl.com/syfb4jw8
she sleeps all night long and my and my wife can sleep to.
I wish you all the best
How do you sleep train a baby for naps when you have a toddler i dont understand 😭
@@KristinCo thank u so much ❤️
