100% agree with you about bed sharing. I was sooo against it when I was pregnant. My husband and I are both deep sleepers and I so paranoid but being a mum I swear you become a light sleeper and it’s honestly the most amazing thing sleeping with your baby. The snuggles are something you’re never going to get back so why not do it while you can. Plus my baby sleeps 1-2 hours in his bassinet opposed to 9 hours in bed with us. Everybody is so different though so you do whatever is right for you.
I, too, was agaisny bedsharing until I actually had her and my instincts went in the complete opposite direction. It's just so taboo in western societies. I wrote a pretty lengthy comment but watch the Etruscan Smile with Brian Cox. It really puts into prespective what society can do and shape as far as a baby goes. Not too long ago, every mother would sleep with baby in some form or fashion - it WAS the natural thing to do. What I find funny is, the say to not do it because..well, SIDS..but when SIDS became a thing in the US, they referred to it as 'crib death' because babies were dying in their crib verses in bed. And from there SIDS grew into this anti-bedsharing campaign when in reality, numbers are showing that bedsharing reduces the chances of SIDS in crib because moms heightened senses in bed can either stop a baby from sufficating or she instantly wakes to fix the problem her baby may be having. Mom instincts are amazing.
Wake windows were absolute key for my baby boy... I couldn't believe how exact it was most days... Also, just wanted to say... Being mentally prepared for the lack of sleep, and knowing there is an end to it eventually, helps so much!
I find a consistent bedtime routine makes a huge difference and when we break it that's when we have issues. All baby's are different though and my heart goes out to the parents currently struggling. We have all been their and all fear sleep regression haha
Obviously every family does what works for them, every culture is different, every family is different and every baby is different, but just wanted to say that falling asleep while breastfeeding is the most natural thing to a baby. Our milk has some hormone (I believe?) that makes them sleepy. Again, every family is different, just saying that moms breastfeeding to sleep don't HAVE to stop, if that is working for them.
I’m pregnant now and I’m binge watching your channel and honestly thank you so so very much for all the mummy and baby videos, super helpful and kind of calming for me. Great work !
I am someone who intends to remain childfree for the rest of my life. But I was still curious to see how the other side lives and that is why your videos fascinate me for that reason. It has helped me gain a better understanding of babies and how to be patient with the kids in my circle.
Bed sharing while breastfeeding is so amazing! I could wake up, put the baby on my boob and fall back to sleep myself almost as soon as she latched. Once they are old enough to know how to get the milk without you having to do anything, that is the best way to catch up on sleep. Hands down.
Hey Nikole! I was hoping you could do a updated sleep routine video and transition from SNOO to crib for Oakley. Also, I wasn’t able to click the link for the sleep sack which one is it?
Thank you so much for this video! I am a new mom to my almost 4 month old and I relate so much to so much you you said. Thank you and you're family is beautiful ❤️
Do you have a link for this book you could share.? I tried googling “sleep timing” and could not find the book you recommended by that title. Thank you!
Thank you for including me in this video Nikole, it was such a pleasure and such a great video for parents 💜 loved working with you and your beautiful family!
My son just turned 8 weeks. I have watched your videos and they have all helped me so much! This one also perfect timing. Thank you for the amazing content and valuable info
When you are a working parent who comes home at 6pm and cook snd feed your child at 7pm, how can you put your child to bed early? The best I can do is starting the bedtime routine at 8pm and the earliest she falls asleep is 9pm.
Great info! You said 'gentle sleep training' is there a name to that method or what did you do exactly? I have a 5.5 month old and I need to start this desperately.
you are killing it with the content!! my little babe is turning 6 months and I feel like we are living from Sage lol… I bought one Gunamuna and now wish I have more… worth the splurge!
Thank you for your recommendation, we worked with Lily from lilbaby sleep after watching this and our high needs little one is sleeping 12 hours and is so much happier, it's really changed our lives! I trust all the specialists you recommend!
just watched vid on the "dream eating" technique and giving it like 5 minutes before going to baby and soothe with hand but not pick up baby for like 3 times overnight before taking them out for a feed once doing the self sleeping.
So true - you get used to sleeping and then...BOOM!! Sleep regression hits and you no longer sleep... but it does get better. We have three children - three, two and one - and we sleep trained all of them at the age of two months. We do have bumps here and there - but what a treat to be able to sleep a full night. Thanks for sharing because it can be overwhelming. Greetings from a Canadian Portuguese girl living in the US to another Canadian Portuguese girl!
Great video! As a exclusive breastfeeding mom I have a question, when you would do the dream feed while swaddled or even in the sleep sack did you burp her and change her? Also same question when side breastfeeding did you burp her. Because I notice my baby girl gets really gassy if don’t and sometimes even chokes a little from the milk.
I binge watched your channel during my pregnancy. I love your content! I was wondering if you used a monitor when you transitioned Sage into her own room or if you just waited to hear her cry from your room?
My son had his sleep regression at the age of 7 weeks, but luckily he has always been sleeping well at night. But the day naps are our fight still and he is sleeping in bed with us, otherwise he just doesn't sleep well.
I am so happy that I found your channel!! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. As a soon to be first time mom, my baby is due on November, your videos are really helpful. Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing your experience. It is nice that Sage wakes up at same time every day. My 5 months old son wakes up at 4/4:30 for feeding and it takes an hour to fall back sleep then he sleeps until 6-8 so it is really difficult to have daily fixed schedule. By the way What happened when you stopped Dream feed? Did your milk supply dropped?
During my pregnancy I remember thinking "No. Baby will NOT sleep with me in bed. Period." And then I had her and my instincts went immeditely to the opposite. I did not and would not feel comfortable with her away from me. I believe more studies are coming out with bed sharing, that it actually DOES have benefits for baby and mom but until Western society gets over the taboo thought if it, it will remain taboo. My mom was one of those mothers that was raised that it was an absolute no no and so for her daughter(s) to do it was shocking and worrisome for her. Believe it or not, there was a movie she fell in love with that changed her mind. It's called the Etruscan Smile with Brian Cox. Long story short; he lives in a very small town in Scotland where they aren't afforded the luxuries of us Westerners so when his son moves to the US and has a baby he comes along where they are "sleep training" their baby and he just doesn't get it. All the routines, seperation yada yada. It's a great movie and really shows you how far we have come from what used to be normal to now be considered seperation. Anyhow - like you said, my insticts have kicked in. She is almost 6 months and I just have this overwhelminh feeling that she is ready to sleep in her crib and have her own space so we are going to start the gentle training. A week of naps in her crib and then moving on to the Ferber method if necessary. I think what is most important is them being able to move on their own. I wouldn't feel comfortable putting her down if she wasn't strong to move on her own. Thank you for this video! Our babies seem very similar!!
I just recently found out your from CANADA! Love your channel and your family! Baby Sage is so cute and love watching her grow! I myself am a new mom & have a 3 mo old baby boy 💙 and love to watch your vids since they give me so much inspiration!
Hi! I love your videos and find them very inspiring and relaxing! I was just wondering if there's any chance you could tell us where you got your bedrooms curtains and tiebacks?!😃
Also just wanted to add that I have a baby daughter who is around the same age as Sage and I have learned so much from you, this is my new fav channel, you're doing great as a mum and Sage is a lucky girl! 💗
Thank you soooo much dear Nikole for this very informative video with many details and examples of the scenarios!!! It truly was very helpful for a new mom like me, my beautiful baby boy is almost 3 months!!! :))) Thanks!
Studies are showing that burping isn't always necessary. I would watch or do some research on this before obviously going fourth but if your baby doesn't seem to suffer from stomach problems, you can do without. I stopped burping my baby around the 3/4 month mark because I noticed she didn't need it.
Thank you for sharing this. My daughter the same as Sage. I have to breast feed her in order for her to fall a sleep. She wakes up every hr or two. Get scared in the bassinet. Im going to take some of your tips. Hopefully they work out. 🙏❤
Been looking forward to his video! Expecting our first baby in August and we're renting the Snoo. Happy to hear you've had success with it! Nikole, did you use the Snoo starting Day 1 with Sage, and were you ever concerned about the movement especially at the higher levels? I know it's a common concern for first-time users/parents. Logically I've read the Snoo is very safe and I shouldn't worry too much, but I keep envisioning me bringing home our baby and getting a little freaked out seeing it in person. Did you ever limit the motion or just let it do its thing? Thanks!
🥲 you’re going to make me cry .. soo sweet of you! I think just being a new mama during a pandemic makes you learn everything on your own and just take things into your own hands. It’s been such a fun and fulfilling experience to share what I’ve learned with other parents 🤍
That's too difficult considering I can't just sleep when I decide to. I have to give one hour to make myself fall to sleep on bed. Edit: and some people it's so easy to get to sleep like they lay in bed for 5 min and bam- sleep
Self soothing isn’t physiologically possible until babies are 3-4 because their prefrontal cortex isn’t formed… usually hand sucking is a stress signal in babies, but the sleep training industry has reshaped the idea to be self soothing.. it’s a very misused phrase :/
