@@KarlDeckerPresents me too. Colorado born and raised. I’ve backpacked all over the front range. Been to just about every corner of the Indian Peaks Wilderness area. I used to live I Grand county. Now this is back in the 1980’sand early 90’s. I had to buy a permit that looked like a concert ticket. My most memorable hike was up Hells Canyon and all those house size boulders I had to scramble through. Also 1900 feet of elevation gain in under 2 miles as I recall. But the lakes on top were well worth it. I was an avid fishermen in those days. Crater lake is teaming with nice sized brook trout.
I’ve done the same fishing and exploring all over the Rawah and Mt Zirkel wilderness areas.
No GoPro, no digital just 35mm or even 110 cameras with SLR in those days. Many trips I went alone for 4-5 days. Other trips with friends. Have you ever been to Big rainbow lake or round mountain north of steamboat?
August 2020 my high school friend and I fished at Lake Evelyn in the Byers peak wilderness area. The day after we left there was a human caused fire that shut the whole area down.
My friend died in October 2020 of the WU FLU at 67. I have a video of us fishing on my channel.
Here is commentary by my late friend of us fishing on the Colorado in Grand County:

@@BIGLOVE4TRUTH we are the lucky ones. I did spend 7 summers around Steamboat at a summer camp when I was a kid. Loved fly fishing in those days. Now rock climbing and making videos is my thing. Sorry to hear about your buddy. That was a nice fish! I’ll have to look up Hells canyon. That sounds interesting. Take care my friend.

@@KarlDeckerPresents you produce terrific videos. I only did some minor top - rope climbing around Boulder when I was younger. Another group of us went to crater lake in August 1985 and woke up to snow. Hells canyon is extremely difficult. I had at least 60 lbs of gear in my backpack. The scree and boulder field is steep and dangerous. But as I said the alpine lakes on top are breathtaking. That trip I went down the easier trail to lake Granby. I remember immediately stripping down and going for a swim. I never did that at crater lake though😳. Round mountain lake is over buffalo pass near steamboat and offers no technical climbing, and has a field of columbine flowers and all the brook trout you can eat. Moderate hiking and below timberline. Big rainbow lake trailhead runs west of Walden, CO. Pretty easy hike to the base of Mt Zirkel and that lake is pretty big with, you guessed it, big rainbow trout.

Thanks man, that knife edge ridge caught me off guard and I was pretty nervous, such huge double sided exposure and a sketchy down climb for it but. . . check out the little bear traverse video, OMG was the exposed. Really most all of my trips are pretty intense, that one was a bit more chill because I had sprained my ankle the week before and was taking my daughter and her friend along. . .it did nit disappoint! Thanks Frank, may be best to leave her down there, the climbing gets very exposed and class 4 plus she'll enjoy exploring around the lake, it is just spectacular! You're going to love it just make sure to stay low traversing to the summit, when I got too high and hit the ridge too early it was very intense, I rock climb hard and often. Please come see some of my newer videos if you want to see some more thrilling ascents like this, you will not be disappointed. Cheers!

Hey mister! That place is one of the most scenic locations in CO. I had to reserve camping there and was so happy to bring my daughter and her fiend along. That last bit of climb got double crazy. The mountain goat I met was a Beast and he gave me the look of death, lol, then I got lost close to the summit. I was pretty scared doing that selfie on the knife edge ridge! The summit itself was a big relief. I am just finishing a new video, a couple weeks from premiere, doing a free solo rock climb with some cool camera angles and a 50m rappel. Hope all is well with you and your brother, do you have the wife and kids?

Headed for a 4 day trip this next week - I’m bringing snowshoes and spikes but I’m hoping I can get by without it! I’ll make it to the lake with certainty, but I might have to observe the peak from the base based on conditions.
Do you know if there’s a map of the dispersed camp spots? I know there’s 12 spots based off other videos, but have yet to see a map.
Great video and cinematography - also my first comment on any UA-cam video! Well done my Friend!

Man, be careful, the forecast is for up to around 15" of snow up there for Fri-Sat! I do think there is a map somewhere, I'd call the ranger station, I think they sent me one when I got the permit to camp there, it was almost 2 years ago. . . Big thanks Jacob! Please come check out some of the other videos, honestly, this video came out great for how old it is but, my skills have really grown over the last year, there are dozens of really amazing ones, I think the coolest are places I can fly the drone and really show the summits in all their glory! A dream of mine was to summit Lone Eagle Peak and you have inspired me to try it this upcoming weekend if the weather permits it. Do you have any tips?
