- The Mackinac Bridge, known to locals as the "Mighty Mac" is the 5th longest suspension bridge in the world! It connects Michigan's lower peninsula and upper peninsula across the Straits of Mackinac and is 5 miles long.
The views are breathtaking in the summer but in the winter, it can get a bit dicey with the ice, snow, and wind. There is a toll on the north side of the bridge as well as more information listed here: www.mackinacbr...

I've driven across that bridge as a driver, and been a passenger a couple times. Great ride!
It's gorgeous every time isn't it!?!? Thanks for sharing! Cheers! 😊🌉✌
I forgot how long that bridge was! Northern Michigan is so beautiful! I love the fact that even in June, July, and August, the temps up there are relatively mild and not super hot! I’m thinking about taking the family there this summer.
You're absolutely right! Many days it'll be 65 on the island and 80-85 on the mainland. Hope you make it to the island this summer! Definitely recommend spending a night or two to get the full effect once the daily crowds subside. Very cool! Cheers! 🌺🙂✌🌉🌅🚲🐎
That's an understatement about the temps. I've worn gloves up there in mid August😂
So summer is here. Did you visit already?
@@hyderabadildarshiv174 Yep! Still pretty cool but the sun is shining and temps are starting to change and get warmer.
@@natureharmonytv There you go. have a good time now
This is one of Michigan's most scenic areas!
Absolutely! The Straights of Mackinac, the Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Island are pure Michigan gems! Thanks for watching!
Man I've crossed that bridge more times than I can count. If you couldn't tell in the video the 2 center lanes are nothing but grated steel to cut down the wieght of the bridge deck and allow high winds to pass through instead of catching wind like a sail. Its so trippy crossing the bridge and being able to look through the deck and see the water below.
Definitely a marvel! Some people really dislike driving over the grates, but looking down at the waters below is nostalgic. Such a stunning experience every time!
I wondered if that's what I was seeing or a shadow. I can't drive on that part because it freaks me out and there was no berm on the right. I would have a panic attack.
i remember the 1st time i cross there. the day before a car blew of the bridge .
Oh. my. god
Is there a car ferry instead?
ahhhh.. orange barrels.. that is pure Michigan!
There's always something!
There are 2 seasons in Michigan: winter and construction. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💯
😂😂😂😂😂
Right after you get over the bridge, hang a left on Hwy 2 and go to Clyde’s Drive-In.
Get a Bacon & Cheese Big C, Onion Rings, Milkshake….thank me later.
They passed it in this video I think, second building past the Shell station after they took the exit.
I’m from Alabama but I travel the country surveying land and have spent a lot of time in the UP….love the land and the people up there. Nicest people you’ll ever meet and tough as hell (in a great way)….
I broke down in the Ottawa national forest one time, in winter, and the first car that passed stopped and made sure I didn’t need help. Just about every other car after that stopped too…guess they saw the plates and figured I might be in over my head 😂
I like Michiganders, but I love Yoopers
Thank you so much for sharing some of your Michigan experiences! The UP rocks and totally agree with you on Clyde's. 🍔🍟🍦🙌 There is so much unspoiled land in up here and lots of fun opportunities to explore the outdoors. I'm so glad you've had such a great experience and hope you get to visit again soon. Cheers! 🙂
Thanks. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Brought back fond memories.
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
One of my favorite suspension bridges of my lifetime.. truly and definitely the scenic and face of Michigan ❤
My family built this bridge. Nice to see a video of it in modern day.
Amazing! There is so much history in Northern Michigan. Thanks for watching!
Good god! How many people work in construction in your family?! That bridge took like 4,000 people to build!
I left my heart in mackinac city! Everyone was so nice! Loved it there❤
Love to hear that! It's such a wonderful area. Thanks for watching!
Mackinaw City or Mackinac Island??
Mackinac city
we're going to St. Ignace August 18th up through Wisconsin from Chicago, and back home through Michigan, we plan to go to Mackinac Island and also visit Mackinac City, it looks like we will be going over the Mac about 3 times, i'm a bit nervous, but i did handle the Chesapeake Bay bridge last summer pretty well, cool video.
Oh fun! Sounds like it will be a great trip! You'll be a Mackinac Bridge pro in no time at that rate. It is pretty impressive how minimal it is over the vast waters. If you make your way to the Island, the ferry companies have bridge tour ferries as well as the Sip N Sail cruises at night generally go under the bridge and talk about it a bit. Really cool to see it from a different angle! Cheers!
I drove over the Chesapeake Bridge numerous times in my late teens when I was stationed in DC, and spent weekends in Ocean City. Never had an issue. Did it again a few summers ago in my mid 30s, and I darn near had a panic attack. I never would have expected the response that occurred until it happened. I would love to do Mackinaw Bridge but I’m worried I’ll have a similar experience. This was a neat video to watch tho! I cautiously look forward to the drive over one day!
We've crossed the bridge twice now. It's amazing!
It really is spectacular. I cross it frequently and it never gets old. Every season brings a new experience. Thanks for watching! Cheers!
thanks for posting this video from a retied trucker. I have not been there for about 20 plus years.
It's beautiful every time. Such an expansive and inspiring view. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!
headed here next week. i cannot wait!
It's just stunning and breathtaking!!!!! It's just beautiful here in Michigan, come see us, you will love it !!!! 🌲🌲🌲🌲..
Agreed! Getting to show off Michigan is an honor. Such a WONDERFUL place!
Been there done that... a super thing to do.
Take the elevator up and see it from above.
Don't forget to visit Castle Rock.
Never taken the elevator but would love to get to the top someday! Have never actually visited Castle Rock either, but it's on the list!
Rode my motorcycle across it from Ohio on a trip around Lake Superior. I’d driven my car across the bridge a number of times before but being open on the bike was a totally different experience. I love northern and upper Michigan!
That's great! I agree with you that it's a totally different, airy and open feeling crossing on a motorcycle. I've done it a couple times, but have since sold the bike. Would love to get another one some day. Thanks for sharing!! Cheers!
✌
My BFF and I crossed it in 1976 on our way to St Claire Shores. 💯❣️
So cool! Does it look the same as you remember? Thank you for watching! ✌
@@natureharmonytv even going over it multiple times and living here my whole life the turning of the bridge and the noise is terrifying but it’s safe
Very safe but you're right, that feeling never gets old. Just a modern marvel to be honest!
My first time across “The Bridge” was in 1958, with Mom n Dad in the summer……… my last memory was in my Semi coming back from N.D. In winter . Snowing, cold & windy. What a differance
Wow that is a different experience! It's an adventure every time! Thank you for sharing and hopefully you'll cross it again some day on a beautiful sunny day or at sunrise or sunset!
Thanks for this video! I'm doing this drive this weekend. Sometimes crossing big bridges intimates me. I have to admit to trepidation watching the water loom closer and relief at the sight of land, and that's just from the video! But I know i can do it! One job: just stay on the road, right? 😏
Absolutely! You got this! It's such a beautiful drive every time! Enjoy! 😊🙌

Did it a few hours ago and it was a piece of cake!! I had built it up in my mind but it was SO fun and beautiful and nothing to it! Greetings from Mackinac Island!!👋
looking at the trucks parked by the toll. waiting for the escort to take them across brings back memories. waiting for the escort ,i see they still do that.
Same ole Mighty Mac!
Wow i never knew this bridge is this long😮😮
Right!?!? One of the longest suspension bridges in the world!! Thank you for watching! Cheers! 🙂🌉🙌
I love Michigan ❤❤❤
Used to drive from Grand Rapids to Marquette as kid. My mom would hire a person to drive us over the bridge. As soon she saw the towers from however many miles away her blood pressure would skyrocket.
I believe it! It's an amazing engineering feat but isn't for the faint of heart. Thanks for watching ❤️
That would be a trip driving on that metal grate and just being able to see below you 🤦♂️ definitely test the ol nerves
It's really not bad at all. I used to love to look down at the water through the grates as a kid. It's a very beautiful and peaceful drive across!
I love Mackinaw Bridge is my fav.
You pasted Audies restaurant last exit before the toll.... great food
Always wanted to check that place out! Thank you for the recommendation! 🙂🌸🙌🌉
Hi, so I’m from Florida and have no idea about ice or snow. But wouldn’t the metal grating make trying to drive across it even more challenging? How does that work? Is it regularly salted?? 😮
Hello! To be honest, I'm no so sure about salt. I would imagine they'd stay away from salt because it could cause it to rust, but use sand instead. I am really not sure though. I've crossed the bridge hundreds of times in every kind of weather and all seasons. If it's unsafe for any reason, they shut the bridge down or send out pace cars to reduce the speed of traffic. You could probably look up or contact the Mackinac Bridge Authority if you want more detailed information. Thanks for watching and have a great day!
@@natureharmonytv Thank
You
Linda looks like you're over the ocean in the middle of it
Beautiful!
🙂✌
So Cool and long!
It's one of the longest suspension bridges in the world!
I’ve lived in Michigan all my life and remember hearing my grandmother talking about this bridge I will be taking my first trip across it in 4 days and I’m super nervous I don’t like bridges at all
That is so cool! It sounds like you're destined to take this trip. 🙌 You'll do great! Just throw on your favorite pump up tunes and if it's warm, roll down the windows and feel the winds breeze of the Straits of Mackinac! Enjoy and let us know how it goes! Thanks for sharing! 😊✌🌉Cheers!
Sweet
🙂✌
Cool!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the drive!
I bet it is crazy covered in snow.
Luckily they are very good at keeping it cleared of snow and ice, but it is stunning to drive across the bridge when the lake freezes over!
Driving over this bridge always terrified me. The side overlooking the lakes are not very, in my mind, safe. The inside lanes are a graded metal and to me felt like it was forcing me into the oncoming traffic. It's a awesome place but scary to me.
I crossed the bridge in the winter in the middle of a snowstorm at night.
It's truly an engineering feat. Fun and scary and beautiful all in one! Thanks for watching!
Try driving in the mountains in west Virginia and Virginia and Pennsylvania at night during a snow storm
@@obkeeno I've driven through West Virginia in those conditions. One of the most intense and focused drives I've ever done. I had no idea the that was going to be part of the route and was surprised and overwhelmed by the vastness of the mountains and the intensity of the drive. The snow factor is just....dangerous but I guess that comes with it! The Mackinac Bridge is only scary for folks who don't like water, heights, or bridges. They work it up in their heads as being scarier than the actual drive.
Thanks for this video! I'm doing this drive this weekend. Sometimes crossing big bridges intimates me. I have to admit to trepidation watching the water loom closer and relief at the sight of land, and that's just from the video! But I know i can do it! One job: just stay on the road, right? 😏
I've only crossed it in the summer.
Just watching this video gives me anxiety. Those open road grates and the open-see through sides of the bridge would stress me out. At least with the Chesapeake bay bridge parts of the side views or obscured with the concrete barriers n all, and it still stresses me crossing it.
Well you're certainly not alone. I know many people who are not big fans of crossing the bridge. It sure is beautiful though! 🙂🌉✌
@@natureharmonytvtrue true it’s super beautiful. Definitely on my bucket list of areas to visit. :)
Is the wreck of the Cedarville near there ?
I'm not familiar with the wreck of the Cedarville, however, after Googling it, yes, it looks like it's close to the Mackinac Bridge. The Great Lakes are a graveyard of freighters.
Try walking the bridge on labor day... now that's cool!!
Remember in the 80’s a yugo was thrown off ?
7:30 bros tires are glitching
Haha, yes they are. Didn't even notice that before. 🚗
If the Golden Gate Bridge and the causeway from Louisiana has a baby it would look like this
Haha bridge babies. I've never been to either of those but have a visual. The Mighty Mac is definitely an experience!
@@natureharmonytv they are both an experience! I’ve walked the Golden Gate Bridge and I’m terrified of heights and water and I was faced with both of them but the view was so beautiful all my fears was suddenly removed
After this I'm definitely driving the causeway 😂
@@angelamullen9000 it was an experience tons of water for miles lol felt like I was going into a new realm 😂
The Tacoma Narrows looks like this bridge too. As a kid that bridge scares me because I knew about the first bridge collapsing.
I'm the 100th comment
No way jose. Lol
Came here after Key Bridge collapse 😢
