I'm an old rocker, born in '58, into Zeppelin, Sabbath, Stones, and so many others. Some of the most legendary songwriters. That said, I believe this to be one of the greatest songs ever written. Simple and straightforward, it hits hard every time.
Hey from Charlotte, NC! I'm an even OLDER ROCKER, born in '53, into those bands, too. ❤🎸💯 With "What It's Like," Everlast puts the shit right here in our ears, eyes, hearts, minds AND souls‼🤯🔥 I'm DEFINITELY about to jump back into the Everlast "rabbit hole" with both damn feet‼(It's been WAY TOO LONG since I gave him a listen.) Who's with me⁉️
It's just a bunch of leftist nonsense. Second verse women has sex with a loser he runs off she goes and gets a abortion. She shouldn't have been screwing a loser he shouldn't have been have sex with her then running off but to act like the abortion is her only choice. There were a bunch of bad choices that lead her to the clinic. Like I said the song isn't timeless it's leftist nonsense. To add to your Don't list Don't believe every sad story you hear.
Preach it !!!...It's crazy how what the " OLD" people as we called them in our late teens actually had some FACTS after all !...Not shade just saying !
It got plenty of attention when it was released. I love this song. But c'mon. It was all over the radio when it was released. It has had plenty of attention.
Everlast had basically three stages to his career, first stage solo/part of Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate, 2nd stage lead MC for House of Pain, and 3rd stage he got into a rap/rock hybrid sound and went back to a solo career. His post- House of Pain albums are actually pretty darn good--especially the first three. Its a good road to go down.
You can see other comments about how he was lead MC for House of Pain, most notably "Jump Around". From his solo stuff I recommend "Letters Home from a Garden of Stone", "White Trash Beautiful", & "Ends".
I’ve followed Everlast since 92 with his House Of Pain stint to his solo stuff, to La Coka Nostra, WarPorn Industies, and various other hip hop colabs. Definitely a true hip hop artist.
Did you ever listen to his pre House of Pain stuff? I think he had 1-2 albums on Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate label... he had a "hit" with I believe its called "I got the knack" or something along those lines. I have heard of La Coka Nostra.... haven't heard of WarPorn Industries.
@@purplebeard1526 I kinda did. I was a if Ice-T fan when his POWER album came out and of course NewJack Hustler back in the day. But I got my driving license in 92 and when H.O.P. Came out, that was the shit. We used to ride around at 16/17 drinking 40’s and smoking blunts. Can’t forget about Cypress Hill either… now I’m 45 and can only reminisce about the old days… ha…
Absolutely. Even if you've gone through something you still have no right to comment or judge because each person's story is different. You don't know what's it's like for them.
When this song was in heavy rotation on the radio, I had NO idea who Everlast was, but I loved a couple of his songs. It was years before I found out he had been the frontman for House of Pain. Great lyrics and beat :)
Before Everlast did this project he was down with Ice - T's Rhyme syndicate in the late '80s and House Of Pain in the '90s he was one of the few white Rappers that was respected by real Hip-Hop Headz
Hey guys thx for your reactions! This guy came from a rap group back in the early 90’s called House Of Pain. They were kick ass. Everlast transformed himself from a hard core rap artist into the song your about to hear. Rock on guys!!¡
I yelled out "YES!!!" when I saw the thumbnail for this reaction. I absolutely LOVE this song. Such a great song about not being quick to judge and to realize that EVERYONE is going through something and you never know what they are. SO BE NICE!
Blues rock, alt hip hop. Everlast was part of House of Pain (rap group) back in the days too. He grew up in NYC and LA. Great song. Music from the streets.
I actually never heard this song before, thanks for reacting to it, I’m liking it a lot and I agree with you completely it’s not up to anyone judge someone for their choice, who are we to judge, I’m not trying to be political
Everlast is a super talented dude. From House of Pain “Jump Around “ to this awesome album “Whitey Ford sings the blues “. He is a great songwriter and performer.
Yall should check out "White Trash Beautiful" from Everlast if you liked this one and of course "Ends", "Black Jesus", "Hot To Death", etc. This whole album is dope, never gets enough credit.
Used to live in Cali, carried two wallets, two packs of smokes. Always would give something to those who were"in that life" . "Hey man, you got a dollar?" "Nope, but I got a five..." "You got a smoke?? " "Here man, take two. They're small." Treat people with respect. It will come back to you on the end. Because there but for the grace of God go I.
You know something? I hardly ever hear people say that phrase anymore. We were walking through Hollywood a few weeks ago and I looked down, did the signation, and said, "There but for the grace of God." My girlfriend looked at me and said, "The fuck was that supposed to mean?"
@@jhamler1 Sounds like a great opportunity to give an education. Circumstances can change in an instant and we don't know why or how, but our lives can change for the worse on a dime. I count myself blessed that I have a roof, a job, groceries etc. Better than more than most of the people in the world. I'm poor but I'm blessed.

When we was listening to the music we enjoyed our childhood understanding and caring for others. Having a real conversation.. It's something we have that is most valuable. Love.
The way y’all two bob your head differently to this song… it shows how we take different experiences differently… how we act differently to everything.
From the first time I heard this song, I thought it was brilliant. It hit a lot of airplay on alternative rock stations in the 90s, yet I never got sick of it.

The song is so chill but with a heavy true meaning. It says treat everyone with love and respect till you get to know them .we all have problem, bad choice, and unseen life lessons. Great channel, you two are great and real. 👍🙏🙏😎🇺🇸🇨🇦
A song from a different band, that I feel really hooks up to this song is, Adelitas Way - Somebody Wishes They Were You. Going from recognizing other's pains and realizing where you are in life and how many would like to be you. Even on a bad day. It's a combination of these two songs that keeps my head in the game, not get complacent.
Thanks for doing a reaction to this song. It's in my top 5 songs. In the video at the end it shows the 3 people in the scenarios and a few more looking through a window at the "perfect family having dinner and laughing together" and to me thinking wouldn't that be great to have grown up in the perfect family. This song is beautiful and sad at the same time.
So True , Not being able to walk in someone else's shoes 💔 Check out the singer's other group, Just Another Victim from Judgement Night movie soundtrack. 👍 You won't believe it's him
Everlast is a pretty talented guy with an amazing career: From opening up concerts for Ice-T in South Central LA at age 17, to having one of the biggest rap songs of all time with Jump Around and even recording with Madonna (Waiting Remix), to quitting House of Pain, then having a heart attack and making hit country/blues songs like What It's Like, to winning a Grammy with Carlos Santana for Put Your Lights On. He's in his 50s now, still making rap and rock records and is probably the most chill dude you'd ever meet.
He said in an interview once that in the first scenario it was him telling the man to get a job. Then he felt bad about it afterward and wrote the song almost like a repentance.
