I love the pacing of this song. I love the way it ambles along because it's dealing with a heavy real message and it doesn't need to get loud, doesn't need to be amped up.
My interpretation of this song, is that it's commentary on the lack of empathy in the world. And, it hasn't changed too much in the X amount of years since its release. This song is still relevant.
True! It's actually more revalent than ever. People are even MORE judgemental and on their high horses than ever. People who are poor financially are judged and treated like they aren't even human. Women need to be able to access their medical health providers. Some state have been extreme on banning abortions which is in everyone's best interest. Anti abortionists claim people use it for birth control. I call bullshit on that that is extremely rare. They even banned DNC procedure. It's not just an abortion procedure 8t can save lives physically and mentally. Pregnant people who find out they are having a miscarriage should never ever have to just wait and let it happen at home eventually is enough to F'k anyone up. I went through this so I KNOW. Thank God I was able to get a dictionary to clean me out. Also used for other female issues like constant bleeding or clumps of blood. Then the lifestyle that killed Max. We don't know his life story and his wife and kids need to be lifted up by the community in any case. None of us have a right to judge anyone! "Walk a mile in their shoes". Be a good human!!!
Eat at whiteys is one of the best chill albums. When the party has died down and all the real hommies are the only ones left chillin feeling the effects of all the party refreshments. That album slayed.
Everlast is an OG! Started with Ice-T and the Rhyme Syndicate back in the day. Then the front man for the House of Pain. Was also with La Coka Nostra. You should listen to his Album Whitey ford sings the Blues. Even if you don't react to it. In my opinion a great underrated lyricist.
And Whitey's Revenge was one of the best disses towards Eminem I've ever heard. even though all of D12 came back with quitter and murdered his rap career.
Everlast is a beast. If you want emotion, try watching him sing 65 Rose's live when he cries his eyes out as his daughter has cystic fibrosis and that is how she used to pronounce it and it is a song about that.
House of Pain Jump Around!!!! That’s some young high energy Everlast rapping his ass off! It’s 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥☄️🧯🚒 nice reaction! I’m about to check out another. ❤
I was at a giant rock concert show at the Atlanta Motor Speedway about 20 years ago, Everlast came out without House of Pain sat down with his acoustic guitar and performed, he got booed, he looked at the crowd of like 60,000 people who weren't listening and wanted to see Soundgarden and Metallica, and he said "if you didn't get it, it wasn't for you, have a good night". I can't tell you how much respect I got for that guy that day.
This is truly one of those songs that makes you really think and put things into perspective. No matter what your going through there is always someone who has it worse. True empathy 😢🫢
I listen to a lot of rock 50s-90s, and blues, jazz and some old school hip hop . This disc, Whitey Ford has a lil' bit of ALL that in it. Pretty brilliant, under rated disc & 1 of my all time favorites.
The CD this is from resides full-time in the player in my old truck. It is my frequent go-to music whenever the radio music sucks. Two of my favourites from the CD are '7 Years' and 'Get Down'.
"What It's Like" examines a number of extremely difficult themes in a way few pieces of art ever could. We all have our struggles, we all have weaknesses, and we are all sometimes cruel. Empathy, love, and a desire to help others must be our response, otherwise we are no more human than the beasts of the field.
Animals are more compassionate than some humans. The song points out some very important societal issues. Listen to Five Finger Death Punch - Wrong Side Of Heaven and think about the homeless guy in this song.
@@ireallyreallyhategoogle- I was having that same thought about animals just before I saw your response to this comment. I agree. There’s any number of animals who behave far better than some (many?) humans do. Overall, I think @Kaiserland has a good point, though.
You definitely NEED to hear his acoustic remakes or covers asentually. This song in particular sounds 1,000x better after getting some age in his voice. Makes it sound more real than coming from a kid.
In the second verse, notice how he never says she's at the clinic for an abortion. She might be, but she could be going for a routine check up with every intention of keeping the baby. We don't know, and neither did the protesters who hassled the girl at the door. They just judged her without knowing the facts.
Recommend 'Death Comes Callin'', off the 'Whitey ford Sings the Blues' album. Honestly, recommend the whole album. Also, 'Put Your Lights On', a collaboration with Santana-they won a Grammy for this one.
'Ends' from the same album is a great song and of course everyone loves House of Pain's 'Jump Around'. love that Everlast has everything on his label Tommy Boy up on UA-cam.
Saw him live few years back puts on a better show with just him his guitar and a keyboard player than most performers do with full on bands and backup dancers and singers and man his got on hell of a great and unique voice
Everlast’s career also includes Ice-T’s Rhyme Syndicate….House of Pain…. La Coka Nostra and Warporn Industries. He was in the movie Judgement Night and Who’s the Man
The best line in the song was "Pull out his chrome 45....", that's when our man here was happy he figured out what date the song came out. This song is packed with emotion and it's low energy?
It's easy to point fingers! This song is about judging people without having any idea about what they're going through in their life. Put yourself in their shoes!
Ok, now flip it around and be as compassionate to everyone on the other side of every example in the song, I'll wait. Oh, you're not going to do that? How shocking that you WOULD judge and are just as bad as the "judgers" out there you condemned. Maybe get off your high horse before "judging" everyone else. Be better.
@@bigwillystewart I know. I was just referring to some of the things that Eminem said on the song I remember. but in my opinion, Whitey's Revenge was one of the best disses towards Eminem that I've heard.
Great job with your reaction and thoughts on What's like from Everlast l don't know if you new Everlast lead Singer is the same person who's the lead singer of House of Pain Erik Francis Schrody How brought You the song Jump Around.
The song this album is from is one of the deepest I own. "Whitey Ford Sings the Blues is the second solo studio album by American recording artist Everlast, and the first one following his departure from House of Pain. It was released on September 8, 1998 via Tommy Boy Records, a full eight years after his solo debut album Forever Everlasting and after he had a major heart attack. "Whitey Ford" in the album title refers to the New York Yankees pitcher with that name. The record was both a commercial and critical success and went 2x platinum according to RIAA. It peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200. Its hit single "What It's Like" became Everlast's most popular and successful song, which received him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance at 42nd Annual Grammy Awards."
This song's subject matter speaks volumes to me. I loved it the first time I heard it, and it still makes me feel things more than 20 years later. I tell my children, regularly, that they can't judge someone based on something they say or their attitude because you never know what that person is going through. A greeting, smile or small gesture of goodness can change someone's day. You just never know. That's why there's no reason to be anything but kind to EVERYONE. Discounting certain circumstances, of course. I also tell them that we are all judged by one being, and that being is not me or anyone else I might run into. So, even if I might not agree with someone's decisions, I do not judge them base on those decisions. It's not my place to do so.
Had this song on an album called Buzz Ballads. Introduced me to artists like Staind, Fuel, Eve 6, Sublime, etc. Nearly every song on that album is a bop.
The Message out of the song is always have Empathy for others Never Judge another person, Because "you don't know what its like to walk in their shoes"

Exactly - by not raising his voice, he makes you pay attention.
It's a lyrical song with a great message.
Everlast was the front man for House of Pain, then moved on to a solo career.
House of Pain was pretty great, too!
Before that he was solo and rapped as a part of Ice T's Rhyme Syndicate Crew
He was a member of La Coka Nostra until 2012
Jump Around!
Until Em 😂😅
The message is don't judge because you never know what someone's gone through.
My interpretation of this song, is that it's commentary on the lack of empathy in the world. And, it hasn't changed too much in the X amount of years since its release. This song is still relevant.
It almost feels worse these days, but, yes. Empathy was the principal theme.

This is one of the greatest songs of its Era. Imo.
Santana / Everlast - Put Your lights on .. wonderful song ,
I get the energy from the message of the lyrics.
It amazes me that this song is a couple years older than I am and yet it’s hitting all these hard issues that we still have yet to completely face
This song is great because it can instantly put life in perspective for anyone who is blessed and never had to deal with a rough life...

This song is a lyrical masterpiece 🔥 if your not feeling empathy towards your fellow man after listening then good luck being human.

Hey man great content I'd like to also hear him do a review on dream state his newest one
This is probably his best song. The video is super relevant back when it came out in 90's.
I get by, Lonely Road, Little Miss America are pretty good also.
this song will be relevant for eternity
First time hearing Everlast. I liked it.love your reaction. Thx for sharing.
Empathy always makes the best lyrics. 💯
You have to hear "Everlast - I get by" and "Everlast - White trash beautiful"
This song was Legendary, helped me through some hard times growing up in the 90’s
gotta love song that the chorus changes based on the verse and still sounds good.

Everlast ft santana: put your light on is another great song.
Stone in my hand, I get by , white trash beautiful , are all great songs from Everlast
I remember when you couldn't go half an hour without hearing this song on the radio or the video popping up on MTV. It had a good run on the charts.

exactly, and sadly so did Mr. Boyd
But what he says surrounding her going in, does implicate her having gotten an abortion done. And knowing what it's like to make such a choice .....
@@MasonBentley-x7n IT absolutely does not. A tough decision to raise a kid without a father and help is also implied. Clinics don't just do abortions.
Google info about the song, everything says the verse is about a girl going in for an abortion.
He does use the word “Choose” though….
How funny - I heard this song on the radio last week and thought about searching out reaction videos, but promptly forgot. Thanks, MrLboyd!
The message of the song.
Real simple. Choices and perspective.
Everlast wrote 2 mega 90’s anthems. This one and Jump Around when he was heading House of Pain. Man the 90’s were some seriously good times.
