This song came out in the nineties…I’d say they still haven’t learned much in the way of empathy. Just look at the streets of LA if you get my drift.🤷♂️🫤
I know, literally it was said the young girl who got pregnant, her contributor left her no contact to take care of the baby and he's like huh??? What did the guy do??
“You know, where it ends, it usually depends on where you start”. A very true societal observation about the difficulties in breaking the pattern of one’s upbringing. The song doesn’t necessarily aim to change that, but to bring about compassion for others who may have things tougher than you do.
Everlast has been involved in a LOT of bands. While most famously recognized for his part as the founder of 'House Of Pain', he was part of both La Coka Nostra & Soul Assassins, and a supporting voice in numerous Cypress Hill songs, not to mention worked with several legendary artists such as Carlos Santana.

Badass Live Acoustic Performance by Everlast🔥 This song is about being kind to others, because you have no idea what they are going through in their life. "God forbid you'd have to walk a mile in her shoes, then you really might know what its like." Great Song with a Powerful Message
It's kind of saying that every one of those people has something they're going through, so don't judge, and don't only have sympathy or empathy for someone if you've also gone through it, have those things even if you haven't gone through the same situation!
I remember learning how to play the song. It's a great song, still completely relevant. I think it's an important message for everybody. I'm glad you guys did not react to the censored version. Some words have a big impact on the song, it's not the same when they are censored
Just catching this one a year later. I think y’all missed hearing the lyrics. “Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom.” He said he loved her then left her alone and pregnant. Then she got treated like shit for going to the abortion clinic. Hence the wanting to cut off his balls lyric. Try a few others if you haven’t revisited him. Black Jesus White Trash Beautiful I Get By
The end when they are all looking in on the family symbolizes them seeing what a normal life is or should be and how the family eating doesn't "know what its like" to deal with what they delt with
I got this promo a few weeks before it’s release, at my old CD exchange, and new record store. Everlast is a true O.G. This song is truly epic, and I’m glad you two played it. Awesome! Onelove!
That ending, with the rich/white family in the glass house, while everyone else struggling is looking in. Laughing and eating, with no concept of what all the people on the outside are going through.
Everlast has been involved with a staggering amount of bands. While mostly known as the founder of HOUSE OF PAIN, he was started out as the original white rapper as a member of Ice-T's 'RHYME SYNDICATE', went into a rather impressive solo career (working with legends like Carlos Santana), only to be later called back to rap in several supergroups including LA COKA NOSTRA, WARPORN INDUSTRIES, SOUL ASSASSINS and more.
i know, i had to stop and go 'really?'. but i love that they're jamming out to this. I love this song. if one has time to really listen to all the lyrics it has a very very good message. I get with reactions sometimes there's too much to take in at once. you've got the music, the lyrics, singing/voice and music video.
Right? I was like how did y'all miss the kid tommy stopped calling nd she was pregnant. Her struggle was the choice with abortion and the controversy around it.
theyre not listening at all. "why would she want to cut off his balls?" oh idk, maybe they explained it in the line immediately preceding that one......
Pretty sure neither one of them are really paying attention to the song End of the second verse “she’s pregnant right?” Eh. Not anymore. That’s the point

Everlast started with Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate, then did a solo album, then co-created The House of Pain (a bunch of hits with the first 2-3 albums including; "Jump Around", "Who's the Man" and more), then went solo with this album ("Whitey Ford Sings the Blues"), then did a couple more. Recently they are back together with several others in a group called, "La Coka Nostra", but he still does solo albums.
The people in the window represent the happy family we ALL wish we had or are a part of, but most can only watch that from the outside because of their circumstances in life which led them away from such a thing in the window..
The family symbolize the ideal "great American" nuclear family, their privilege blinds them to the realities of the world, they don't know what it's like to be in a position where you lose all you have or have to choose between keeping or terminating a pregnancy or being impacted by social violence...if they did experience these things they might be capable of showing empathy instead of contempt and understand that for most there is a big difference between the idyllic life of privilege and the harsh realities that many in society are faced with. (sorry for my lack of sentence structure!) lol
You're making just as big a sweeping generalization as you accuse them of. Not all nuclear families live a life of "privilege", and not everyone who isn't in one is better off.
@@JakkFrost1 Exactly, having your house in order (particularly at middle age as the scene depicts) does not mean that you are 'privileged' or that you have had everything handed to you on a plate. For this guy to suggest so is completely ignorant of the large number of working class families who work hard to provide a stable family environment (a percentage of which make it into the middle class). However, it's entirely possible that in the process of working hard to build a family home, such effort and focus can make you prone to forget about the struggles of others. This is what the end of the video says to me, as there is no interaction between the people looking into the window (aspiration?) and the family inside
@@JakkFrost1 100%. This song isn’t just for a mythical perfect family. They don’t really exist. It’s for all of us. Even those of us who struggle still have a tendency to judge others. Beautiful song with a reminder for us to all do better
I think that the last scene was attempting to convey that the people who were raised in such a family are completely oblivious to the suffering of others, that they dont see what is going on with so many people (looking at the family through the glass window).
