Everlast isn't a group, but a guy. He almost died the day he fonished this album. He had been feeling chest pains for hours and his friend/producer got him to go to the hospital where they determined he had a torn aortic valve and was bleeding internally. Because he listened to his friend, he'll turn 55 in 12 days (8/18/69).

A good friend once told me something like, "I know exactly how heavy everyone's burden is... it's every last ounce that they can carry, just like mine." I try to keep that in mind when I get irritated by something.
Being an old fart who is falling apart I've seen people in physical therapy with extreme problems that make mine look mild. As one friend told me, it's not a contest and we all have problems.
"You know where it ends. Well usually it depends on where it starts" is such an important message! Life is so much easier for those with a head start in life. I ran away from foster care at 16 and people looked down on me for my little studio apartment but I didn't care because it was mine. Take pride in your accomplishments even if others don't and instead of judging lift people up who need it. You never know the impact you may have.
Thank you - that line of the song really hit me when it came out. I was doing OK back then, but a lot of other people weren't, and it helped to open my eyes. My very best wishes to you now and for the future.

❤❤❤❤ Honestly thought I couldn't love you guys more .. and than I see you do this reaction. Everlast is the man. My brother and I bonded over everything especially music and when this song came out ... we had to have listened to it thousands of times. I lost my baby bro in 2005 he was only 20 . In 2017 , I saw Everlast was performing live about an hour away from me and NOTHING was about to keep me from seeing the man. When he came on that stage and was 5 feet in front of me I screamed to him " EVERLAST I LOVE YOU!!" and he went over the mic and said " I love you too" My brother's spirit was no doubt shining through that night and I'll always have this love for him , as a connection through my brother. ❤ thank you for your beautiful message, Amber ❤ It spoke to me and I am truly thankful to you both ❤️ ❤❤😘✌️
"White Trash Beautiful", "Lonely Road", "Put Your Lights On" with Carlos Santana, "I Get By", and "Smoking and Drinking" are all incredible songs with similarly heavy lyrics.
All right my babies... Now this track cuts deep on so many levels.... Infinite situations for someone to be in. This was the very first time I've seen the video. We've all walked our own "what it's like" 🔥😊👍🏻
Everlast has been around since the late 80's. He used to roll with Ice T's Ryhme Syndicate befor he was in the group House of Pain, yall should peep one of his first songs Everlast - The Rhythm
As others have mentioned, Everlast aka Erik Francis Schrody, is also the rapper from House Of Pain, which you'll know from "Jump Around". He also did a great song with Santana, called ""Put Your Lights On" that's worth checking out. A 90s artist with a similar name but non-related that you should check out is alt-rockers Everclear. Start with their songs, "Santa Monica" and "I Will Buy You A New Life" and work through their catalogue from there.
Sympathy and empathy both refer to a caring response to the emotional state of another person, but a distinction between them is typically made: while sympathy is a feeling of sincere concern for someone who is experiencing something difficult or painful (which I believe Amber was describing as something that everyone be capable of doing), 'EMPATHY' involves actively sharing in the emotional experience of the other person, often and in it most sincere form, when having experienced something akin to, very similar as or exactly like what another has experienced. I think most people are capable of sympathy (pity and sorrow for someone else's misfortune) but empathy is not automatic nor can it be expected. Some people are cruel. Some are ignorant. Some are willfully blind to suffering beyond what they've experienced. Others simply have no baseline to understand what is means to be dirt poor, backed into a corner with no way out, filled with loss, etc... and are therefore incapable of empathy. Like the lyricist sang; you can only know if you walk in someone else's shoes.
Such a great explanation. I always think that even if you can't actually empathize with someone because your own experiences don't even allow you to imagine another person's pain, the important thing is effort. When we ask people to be more empathetic, we're really asking them to try. You may not be able to fully know what they're feeling, but at least they know you care. Sometimes telling someone you wish you could carry some of their pain for them is the best you can do.
@@deborahwinder3617 That's exactly it, empathy is an active act of imagination and it takes an effort to try to imagine being in another person's shoes. People willing to make that effort are also more likely to take some action on it even if that's just listening to someone who needs to be heard. Experiencing another person's pain by making that effort then just shrugging about it would be sort of ghoulish--and I don't think empathetic people would make that effort and then do nothing.
This is one of those songs that everyone I know absolutely loves. It doesn't matter if you're into hip hop, R&B, rock, alternative, heavy metal, etc. This song speaks to everyone!
I vividly remember the first time I ever had heard this song. Tears rolled down my cheeks as the raw emotion of the lyrics. The point of view in each verse was rather haunting. Lyrically a masterpiece to me. Blessings to ya'll.
Amber, I 100% agree with you. It should be enough that we have all been through difficult situations to understand that someone else might be going through something as bad or worse, and cut them some slack. Unfortunately, humans come with something called the fundamental attribution error, which is a mouthful, but basically means that when we're trying to explain why something happened to us, we tend to credit ourselves (make an internal attribution) when it's something good, deciding it happened because we worked hard, as an example. When it's a bad outcome, we tend to blame others or bad luck (an external attribution). But the opposite happens when we are looking at others. We tend to unconsciously assume that when bad things happen to other people, they deserved it for some reason (an internal attribution). The good thing is that once someone realizes they come with this built in bias, they know to look for it next time they find themselves judging someone they don't know, and considering situational factors instead of just deciding they're a bad person.
AMEN, Amber. To ALL that you said in the break at around 5 min. I wish more people thought as you did. The world would BE in a much better place. I AM glad you are a mother who can pass on this message to your kids (& a teacher still? or even again in future - to pass this important message on to your students.) Of course J. seems to be of the same thought (which is helpful in a marriage) & can help cement the message in your kids. J. can also, even right now, pass this message on to his students (or, when school goes back into session in the Fall.) Have a good day, the both of you. Love from Canada. ❤
What it shows is that Everlast (like a lot of musicians at that time) have a multi-faceted musical skill ... He can rap, sing in tune, play a guitar and other things. Always liked this song for that and many other reasons. Also, it gives Amber‘s end message so much more weight. Much love to both of you for doing this song.
I like what seems to be the message of this song, and that is to not judge a book by its cover because you can’t judge someone’s life and how they are, unless you have walked a mile in their shoes, because who knows what that person has been through or is going through that you can choose to judge them so basically what it is saying is to think before you speak and think before you act
Such an incredible song. I'm so glad y'all chose the explicit version of this instead of the radio edit. While the lyrics can be offensive to some, it really gets the point across of the story. We are ALL human and we ALL make mistakes in life. Because God doesn't care where you've been...He cares about where you are going. Love you guys!
Jay and Amber have barely scratched the surface of the 90's. I say it all the time, the 90's was a crazy time for music. Every generation has their musical influences, I feel like the 90's was the great melting pot of influences. Generation X was sick of being told who we could be and what we could achieve. Our music reflected that rebellious spirit of change. Y'all get back to some of those incredible 90's R&B groups and tell me that we didn't have a great time ❤ but there were plenty of messages, like this one, in our music 🎵
Loreena McKennitt! I have so many favorites but the first one of hers I heard was "Mystics Dream". Also you have to check out her live arrangement of W.B.Yeats "The Stolen Child" video by Ron B from her Nights From The Alhambra concert. This woman is so accomplished. You should really check her out. She's had a career spanning four decades. If you love instruments...she does a lot of renditions of folk music but she also writes her own songs. Her music has Celtic and middle eastern elements. I think you would love her. She can be considered 'World Music' or 'New Age'. She's also from Canada. She's also been given so many honors. She's an honorary Colonel of the Royal Canadian Air Force and she's also a French Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. She's been invested with the Order of Canada and Manitoba, as well as being awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals. There are so many others I can't possibly list. I've been watching since you guys started. You really need to do Loreena McKennitt sometime. ❤️🙂
Amber in the 70s the Band RENUION had a big hit called LIFE IS A ROCK BUT THE RADIO ROLLED ME 😎😤Its a comedy song with a very good 70s Sounds they mention a lot of the top Bands of the 60s and 70s Amber if you dont check this song out FASTyou will be dssapointed you waited so long when you do hear it for the first time Its🎼🎵 70s Gold big timeThank 4 all your reactions Rob Squad ,And thanks for helping the OLDIES BUT GOODIES stay Alive,
I love this video! All the people he's been singing about looking in on a picture of perfection and not comprehending it like it's some bizarre, alien thing. Meanwhile, I'm there standing beside them wondering the same thing.
This is such a masterpiece of feeling and care. Be kind. Always. Out lies and evil. Always. Love your Steve Miller Band shirt. Great line from the song “Space Cowboy.” “And I don’t let my friends get hurt.”
I was generally not a big fan of the music of the '90s, but I do remember this song and how powerful it is. I agree with Amber, the lyrics are the star here...truth, laid out pure and raw without a lot of theatrics or beating around the bush. A message of love and compassion, but presented in the most blunt, confrontational way possible. "How dare you judge these people. Who do you think you are?" Amazing writing.
The 90's were so diverse and such a departure from the 80's. Grunge and introspective song writing were more important than catchy hooks. It was also one of the best decades for women artist. A few suggestions. More Jewel and Natalie Merchant. "Hands" by Jewel is one of the best songs about selflessness and compassion. Also, for your daughters Natalie Merchant's "Wonder" is a great song about fulfilling your destiny. And finally, please check out Maria McKee. She was with a cult band in the 80's called Lone Justice. Kind of a country, rock, alternative mix. Three songs that I love are "Don't Toss Us Away", "Am I the Only One", and "Nobody's Child"
Every single time this song comes on the radio I have to listen to the whole thing and sing along! One of my favorites. This was a hit right out of the gate and is a classic in my opinion. One hit wonder but what a great hit!
My all-time favorite song EVER! What a beautiful message that stands the test of time. Jay, you had your eyes closed at the end getting into the music but you missed the visual of the perfect family behind the glass while the 3 in the scenarios and Everlast (along with many others) are just watching.
I've Loved this song ever since it came out the message is just so profound when you sit back and look at everything. People take so much for granted during their life and then we are so quick to judge somebody for not doing the same thing, or not liking the same thing or maybe they just have some situation going on their life but nobody knows what you're going through. I don't care who you are everybody in this world wears a disguise
90's Music still bangs, hits hard in the feels like we're still still struggling to this day and people at the top in thier own bubble tell us not to worry that they have our backs. No one ever had my back, who I voted for, EVER!
I just want to say I love the passion and indulgence you put into your videos. It shows how committed you are to observing quality music or at least willing to venture down roads untraveled. God bless and keep up the fantastic work you do!! Nothing but love for the both of you!
Have to agree with others, Amber totally gets it. Been awhile since you guys have done a Savage Garden song. Similar time period of music, so I'm going to suggest 'To The Moon & Back'.
I hope you made him rewatch the end, as he was eye's closed all the way. Glad Amber caught it all. Love that song. Amazing that the same dude did Jump Around, amongst other hip hop anthems. Great channel.
You guys are the best. Music brings us together as humans especially a song such as this. we gather to see our favorite bands in a giant arena and for 3 hours you forget the hate in the world, and enjoy the moment with total strangers
So many times I have sat at a bar with this song playing in the background, a pint of Guinness in front me, discussing the complexities of life with a philosophical bartender.
The best bartenders aren't necessarily the ones that can make the fanciest or the most different types of drinks. It's the one who is a good listener. If he's philosophical that's a bonus.
theme song from the tv series Saving Grace and Stone in My Hand, are 2 of my favorite Everlast songs. He also appeared as the bartender in Saving Grace.
Everlast was the frontman for house of pain! Jump around was their biggest hit!
And House of Pain has an Oklahoma connection since one of the other guys from it runs the Outsiders Museum in Tulsa.

I've been watching since you guys started. You really need to do Loreena McKennitt sometime. ❤️🙂
Song calles Ends from Everlast is a must!
awesome song
Really Cool!. His tune “Ends” really caught my attention back in the 90s. Still one of my fav tunes from around that time.
Toad The Wet Sprocket hat a hit album Dulcinea. All their songs were hits
Somethings always wrong, great song from that album
@@marijolamb5459 Fall Down was featured in the movie Drop Zone. Thats my favorite. Walk on the Ocean is another one.
I wonder how many of them realize at that point that “the perfect family” is a myth, so it’s unattainable.
@@CatherinePearl100 Good point. That's why I said it was so alien to them.
This is jsut the tip of the iceberg with Everlast. Phenomenal performer.
I saw that prayer that you prayed. Wonderful.
This is such a masterpiece of feeling and care. Be kind. Always. Out lies and evil. Always. Love your Steve Miller Band shirt. Great line from the song “Space Cowboy.” “And I don’t let my friends get hurt.”
You know him from House of Pain.
This song hit big when it came out. It made many think and left its mark.
Loved this song from the first time I heard it.
man taht sound so haunting years later. Awesome you guys played the noncensored version. XM doesn't even do that!
It's one of the greatest songs ever written!
Always One of my favorites ❤
I was generally not a big fan of the music of the '90s, but I do remember this song and how powerful it is. I agree with Amber, the lyrics are the star here...truth, laid out pure and raw without a lot of theatrics or beating around the bush. A message of love and compassion, but presented in the most blunt, confrontational way possible. "How dare you judge these people. Who do you think you are?" Amazing writing.
This song has my favorite groove from the 90's. It's a vibe all on it's own.
Don't judge others....PERIOD!!!🎵🎼🎶💜💜
Someone once told me that if you know someone without problems, you don't know them very well. Empathy.
One of the greatest songs ever written
What Amber said in the middle of the song, yeah....that was beautiful
You guys rock, keep it up yo.
I've Loved this song ever since it came out the message is just so profound when you sit back and look at everything. People take so much for granted during their life and then we are so quick to judge somebody for not doing the same thing, or not liking the same thing or maybe they just have some situation going on their life but nobody knows what you're going through. I don't care who you are everybody in this world wears a disguise
a true classic that will go down in history
PERFECT reaction and welcome to this song. It has moved me for 30 years.
One of the best songs ever. Period.
Great song and y'all totally got his message . Good people .
powerful folk blues rock hip hop mix of a tune! ♥
'You know where it ends, yo, it usually depends on where you start' - so true!
What a masterpiece for this genre of music, just brilliantly crafted.
Have to agree with others, Amber totally gets it.
Been awhile since you guys have done a Savage Garden song. Similar time period of music, so I'm going to suggest 'To The Moon & Back'.
I love this song. Empathy, tolerance, understanding and kindness are things that just aren't common enough today.
I'm a child of the 60's and 70's but Everlast... I love his stuff . He recorded with Santana .... it was brilliant . Xx
Thank you for understanding empathy. It shouldn't have to happen to you for you to care.
Thanks for playing the uncensored cut.
This was the theme song for a series called Saving Grace with Helen Hunt. Loved this song since hearing there years ago.
I thought that was Holly Hunter...
@@yurintroubl it very well could be! I wasn't sure if that was her name.
😍This entire album was great!
It’s so crazy how we need the songs from back in the day right now. The messages the talent. Some of what’s missing today. We need these so bad today.
I absolutely love this song, one of the few 90s songs I broke free from my 80s love to adore. It's an incredible story and message.
