Thank you all for your comments. Thank you for sharing your stories on here with me and others. I'm reading every one, some are making me tear up.
For anyone watching this and feeling discouraged. I'm so sorry if this video discouraged you. I want to encourage you that this has nothing to do with my weight but with how I felt about myself. On paper, I'm obese but I feel good.
Congratulations on your realization and doing something about it!
I've been obese my entire life; literally, from birth. I weighed in at 8 lbs 10 oz in 1964 when 6.6 was the average. I was rolled into kindergarten. lol
Five years ago, I stepped on the scale at a doctor's office to begin the process for bariatric weight loss surgery and had hit 445 pounds!
Due to a variety of circumstances, I have never been able to have that surgery, but I have lost 123 pounds, as of five days ago. Illness and adding movement are the reasons, along with a semi-consciousness of my eating habits, for the loss.
I will be 60 years old in 14 months and nine days and am determined to get down to at least 275. That would put me at my 1982 high school graduation weight. After that, I don't care! 😊
I want to add that I have a hip that is deteriorating, and eventually, it will have to be replaced. I began using a cane eight years ago, switching to a walker about five years ago. Walking is uncomfortable, at best, so I only gave myself small increases in walking as part of my movement plan. For example, I don't park in the ADA parking spaces unless it's a super bad pain day. I park 5-6 spaces back. But, I can move my torso and arms, so I do chair exercises following videos I found here on YT. I am committed to twice a week, although the norm is three times and on occasion, do the exercises 4-5 times. Even at work, I can sneak in some torso twists or arm circles for a couple minutes.
Good luck on the rest of this journey we call life!
@@debbieomi I respect you for sharing and keeping up with this hard work, best of luck in the future
If you feel healthier and happier, that’s the most important part. As long as that stays true (and you don’t go too far to the other extreme, but that would result in a decline in happiness), you’re on a good path. Keep on keeping on.
I also think that what medical community calls obese has a lot more to do with social standards than actual medicine anymore. And it's kind of disgusting.
Heck yeah you go Peter! 💪 You should make a cool metaphorical dumbell out of resin! Maybe with gold flakes in it? I don't know I'm just spit-ballin' here, but as a guy addicted to exercising I'm happy to see others improve themselves like you have 😊.
I don’t know if you realize how cool this is. To see a man be vulnerable about his insecurities and personal improvements is so so so valuable to everyone that watches you. Thank you for this!
for you maybe
Because for most of us men if we show vulnerability we get met with social rejection and disgust.
Luckily Peter has that wall of internet separation.
@@georgeh5075 I’m so sorry. It truly is horrible how alienated men are just for their gender. I hope you have people that you feel like you can express ALL your feelings to
Typically multi generational cardiac arrests in a family are caused by an incomplete circumflex artery around the heart. This is what I was taught in paramedic school some 36 years ago. You may want to talk to your doctor about that. The weight loss journey is super important and you’re well on your way to helping out your body. Great video! Keep it up! ❤
This is honestly the best weight loss video I've seen, no nonsense, no being told what to do, or how to live. I just recently started my career as a sprinkler fitter going into the job I weighed 375 I was big and I was unhappy with myself . Im almost a year In and ive lost close to 90 lbs and I can't wait to lose more. Thank you for sharing your story Peter this little video really motivated me to keep going not only for myself but for friends , family and the people I work with.
Weight loss is a journey. No matter how long it takes you, be proud of your success! I’m proud of you ☺️
Had the same wake up call back in 2022. Had my picture taken with a coworker in a suit for an event and seeing how wide I was combined with getting physically winded just walking into work was such a "What have I let myself become...". Went from 250 and now I'm down to 190 and could probably lose another 20-30 and I'll work towards that but I'm honestly just happy with the small milestones, not getting exhausted walking up stairs, having to take a break constantly, and getting to buy all new clothes!
congrats
Great work!! I got diagnosed as pre-diabetic in January of 2023 (this year) and was 215. I am now (July) 175 and feel so much better. My strategy was not to use set numbers or anything but just look at Carbs, Sugar, Saturated Fats, and Cholesterol. If the numbers felt high in my arbitrary system, I just won't eat it. Cutting down on those and walking my 3 dogs with my dad almost every day has helped a ton. I still want to lose a few more pounds and get my A1C levels rechecked. Anyways, keep up the great work and I'm proud of you, internet stranger ❤😅
Nice job!
This is such a brutal honest take on weight loss. I’m 41, 5’8”, and I’m over 400 lbs. I’ve been a fan of your channel for years, and you have definitely kicked me in the butt to just get out and move. Thank you for allowing us to be able to hear your story.
You can achieve your goals! I believe in you!
Keep up that hard work champ!
Sometimes all it takes for someone to get motivated is seeing someone else do what they want to do. Not in a jealous sense but rather joy and confidence that it can be done. I believe that if you take this as inspiration to make better choices for yourself, you'll no doubt become and inspiration to others around you without you even realizing it. Your journey is just as important as anyone's. I believe in you.... random internet stranger (lol) you got this!
You can lose it all. Dont listne to the voice that says you cant. You 100% can if you choose too.
I’ve noticed how much more fit you’ve been looking over the years. Proud of you, Peter!
As my mom says, "its progress, not perfection". Good job on your journey so far and good luck on your journey to come.
A few years ago, I was working for the big brown delivery company. Just by working for them, I lost 70lbs. When I left, I hadn't changed anything else, so I've gone back up to my heaviest.
I've watched your videos for years, simply because your calm, measured voice is inspiring and enjoyable, even though I have never worked with resin. I think it is a voice I needed to hear for other reasons today. Thank you, Peter.
This is such a good story, and such a good message. "It's not about the weight, it's about being happy". I'm so glad you are feeling happy. I've always gotten a lot of joy from the work you share, and I love knowing that you are in a good place while doing it
Thank you for normalizing getting healthier over time! I’m on a similar journey myself. It’s a hard mindset to switch to after crash dieting for forever and never being able to do it fast enough. Very proud to see a favorite creator of mine focusing on overall wellness and letting it take the time it takes instead of falling in with most of media’s idea of what that should look like. Get after it Peter! 🎉 so happy for you!
You got this Peter. Glad you are doing this for you. Walking is great. All the support from all of us.
I am so proud of you. I just had gastric bypass and am at 333 down from 380 at my highest. I am still fat as all hell but I refuse to deny myself health any longer. Talking about your father and ancestors streak hit home for me. My grandfather died at 64, my dad is 63 and after a lot of hard wear on his body, I'm not sure he has enough in him hit hit 65.
in 2019 i was 398. In May of 2022, I had gastric bypass. I was 346 and had lost that 50 pounds on my own. Since then I've lost 110 pounds. That 160 pound total loss has made a world of difference. You can do this. You've got it.
My daughter was 380. Had the sleeve and lost 150 lbs so far. My husband was carrying a 50 lb bag of chicken feed recently. He’s in shape but was puffing a little bit. I reminded him that our daughter had been carrying around three of those bags all the time. It is so crazy to think about that. I wish you good health and success in your weight loss and most of all hope that you feel good soon.
I’m super proud of you Peter! Thanks for being here with us and I’m looking forward to your project when you turn 60!!
Your story is astonishingly similar to mine. Like eerie similar. I'm currently bouncing in the 251-259 decade and have been here for months. You've given me the motivation to go for the next decade and see where that takes me. I appreciate you and your videos and I wish you the best of luck in the future!
Every passing moment is another chance to turn it all around.. Cheers to your health, Peter
I love getting to hear this part of your story. Congrats on your health journey so far! Consistency is a lot harder than most people realize. Especially for creative people, because your brain gets stuck on the things you're interested in in the moment and taking care of your body becomes almost annoying because it takes up valuable brain space that you can be using for the thing you actually want to be doing.
That said, a lot of people do underestimate how important physical health is for mental health, not just in a "brain bad" way, but in it's influence on your ability to perform cognitive tasks... like those involving problem solving and creativity.
THIS. 100! And sometimes it's crazy hard to break that hyper-focus when I'm really deep in an idea.
God this is so accurate! This is literally me too.
This is an incredible, albeit emotional story. The bravery you've just shown all your followers shows change can happen, even when you're not feeling your best. I remember meeting you last year at Makers Central and it was incredible; we talked about many things and I said then, as I will now, you're inspiring not only as a creator, but as a genuine person. Well done Peter!
You're an inspiration. I've struggled with weight my whole life, and it sux. I just turned 59, and this video really hits home. Keep doing what you do... all of what you do. You're awesome, dude.
Walking is such a fantastic stress relief. I related to your brief statement about London-- when I visit there, I love to walk and feel so much better than I do back in the states. Unfortunately, I don't live in a walkable community, but you've inspired me to try to find somewhere safe I can get those miles in!
You're absolutely right about walking and stress. I went to a chemist a few years ago for some sleep aid tablets and instead of just selling them to me, the pharmacist asked questions about why they were needed and told me I needed to exercise more. That annoyed me at the time but she'd done exactly the right thing. Walking, coupled with a physical job rather than the sedentary one I'd been in at the time, really improved my stress levels and, in turn, my sleep. I'm very grateful to that pharmacist for talking it through with me and forgoing a sale in the process. Good luck in finding somewhere nice to walk, and enjoy it 👍
Wellness is a holistic practice, as physical as it is psychological, and you example that perfectly here. Thank you for your vulnerability Peter. Walking is entirely underrated! It helps my anxiety a lot. I was disabled for about a year making walking not possible for me and it definitely took a toll on my mental health because even though i actually lost weight during that time not having my independence to even go walk to the store was something I mourned every day until i got my surgery. Everyone who can should absolutely walk while they can when they can as much as they can.
So proud of you not just for losing weight, but for having those small mindset changes, practicing healthy coping skills for stress, and having realistic goals.
I was in a pretty bad accident in early 2020 right before the world shut down. Having a mix of COVID stress and my doctor asking me to not do any physical activity for longer than 30 minutes at a time made me gain a lot of weight. 3 years and 4 rounds of physical therapy later, I’m still not medically cleared to do many activities, and I’m still only able to walk for about 30 minutes at a time. I try to walk for those 30 minutes every day, not just in the hopes I lose weight, but to help me feel better mentally.
Thanks for sharing your story, it made me feel not so alone in my journey.
I’ve had the same struggle here. I was 300 at my highest. Now I bounce between 230 to 250. Glad to hear that you ultimately feel better, more than anything that is the motivation to keep going.
Thank you for sharing this! I have such a hard time with weight (and addiction) and seeing someone talk about it like THIS. brings...SO. much. joy! Thank You! I hope things continue to go up for you, your family and anyone reading this! amen
Slow and steady is the way to go. You're doing great and we're happy to be here with you on your journey.
Slow and steady is actually the ONLY way to go. Quick weight loss never sticks. Fad diets and such scientifically don't work, they have a 98% failure rate. Sudden weight loss ruins your metabolism and your health and then you get the weight back because you have a lower metabolism now
im so happy you shared your journey with us. you don’t know just how inspiring it is to see you thrive!
you are inspiring in so many ways! thank you, sir!
Congratulations!
Last year June I was very disabled and in a wheelchair. I was also at my heaviest weight. This year in June I had lost 61lbs with the help of medication for my diabetes and I am using a walker after a year of physical therapy!
Keep it up that’s awesome
@@cameronknowles6267 thank you!
Proud of you, Peter. You’re a inspiration to me in more ways than one!
I wish I could give this more than one thumbs up. I love when stuff like this is shared. It’s so wholesome and I’d like to think a positive example like this can have an impact on others. We need more of it. Stay awesome (and happy) Mr Brown!
total respect for sharing Peter. Congrats!
Peter, you look AMAZING. I'm happy that you've not only acknowledged your wake up call, but embraced it. I've always said "Progress is progress no matter how big or small" and honestly seeing your positivity and progress is heartwarming. Keep being awesome, keep making progress, keep being you. ❤
I think I have been watching you for about 8 years. Over that time, perhaps because it has been so long, I have noticed a change but it was so gradual you did not seem like a different person. Looking back through the years, congrats on changing yourself because YOU wanted/needed to. It is not a vanity issue, but more long-term, that is great.
We're proud of you brotha! Keep it up. You inspire me every day to create and better this world!
Thank you for sharing Peter ❤
I'm several months into my own weight loss journey and am now 20 lb down. I hope to be 50 lb down by the end of the year. Its incredible to see the weight you have lost, and how those 50 lb have impacted you. I hope I can reach that same point.
You will! You've got this! Congrats on the 20 lbs so far!
You got this! Even if the next thirty takes longer than you want, you’re doing great!
Good job man! It’s an uphill battle sometimes but you still pulled through. I’m happy for you. Phillip Defranco put it best when he said losing weight is trying and failing a bunch of times until you eventually succeed with a routine/diet/whatever helps you. No shame in failing before you succeed, that’s how everyone else does it.
I got onto a birth control implant a few years ago and it made me gain 30lbs. I got really sad about it but when the implant was replaced I lost all the weight! Only to gain it all back once my body realized the implant was back. Now I’m trying to run everyday, I can’t go very far yet but hopefully soon I can. I’m also trying to eat better and drink more water. Hopefully I can go back to where I was. It can be a real hit to your confidence. But it feels good to make progress towards your goal. I’m glad you’re proud of yourself. You absolutely should be.
Also your choose your own adventure stream inspired me to buy one of those books and it was really fun to read with my boyfriend, so thank you for that. I hope you’ll consider doing another one of those streams sometime.
The implant plus other meds made me gain like 50, I'm glad to know I'm not alone in the sad of it. It was pretty hard for it to happen so quickly. Hormones are a he'll of a hurdle. I wish you well on your health journey and your dog is so cute!
@@LizzyMarieTina yeah it really is crazy how quick it happened. Felt like myself then was back with all the weight within a month. I did try to lose the weight when I knew the implant was getting removed, so it was hard to see all my progress go and realize I had only made progress because it was gone. I suspect the implant or the hormones make me hungrier than I would normally be too because I crave foods so strongly. It’s annoying but I think I can lose it. So I’m hopeful for now lol. I wish you luck on your health journey as well, and thanks! It’s nice to hear about someone else with the same experience.
Im so proud of you, your mentality is inspiring!
I needed to hear this! Thank you!!
I don't mind at all. I'm glad to hear that you've found something that you enjoy. I've been losing weight doing pottery. It's amazing how physical it is. I hope you outlive your 50s by decades, and that you and Mrs. Brown have a long and happy marriage.
Congrats dude!! It's definitely not easy and something you need to be ready to do. Everyone has that Lightbulb moment or what you called a wakeup call. My wakeup was in 2018 when i was 28 and had high cholesterol and was constantly trying to catch my breath at festivals, fairs or even just hikes. Decided to lose weight and lost 50lbs, mostly due to changing my eating habits. Started weight lifting after that. I'll be 34 in a few months and am probably in better health than I've ever been as an adult. Best feeling is being able to walk with ease and comfortably lift everyday things 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I'm so glad you made this video. I'm on a journey too and it's nice to see other people taking it slow and being mindful about their well being. I hope these changes allow you to live way past 60!
I am so proud of you! Keep up the good work!!
Thank you so much for taking care of yourself Peter! We all love you very much, and want to continue watching your builds for as long as you enjoy sharing them with us!
Peter, you’re my favorite creator. I cherish each of your videos. Your creativity and passion bleeds through in each of your projects. Thank you for making this video. Your vulnerability deepened my appreciation for Peter the person. Congrats on achieving your
goal! I hope I can strive to work towards bettering myself through hard work and determination like you have.
I appreciate you for sharing your story, Peter!
Good for you man, keep feeling good. Thank you for sharing
Really freakin proud of you Peter. 🎉 Thanks for being so open and vulnerable about it. ☺️
Thank you for sharing this Peter. Cannot tell you how much hearing this and seeing your vulnerability means.
Probably my new favorite video of yours. So very happy for you!
Consistency is key. Going from making yourself do something to wanting to do it more because you feel good doing it is huge! Congrats
Congratulations Peter! Your spirits seem way higher over time and I see more light in you. Thank you for sharing your personal accomplishments with us.
Thanks for being so open about this. My dad had a heart attack and stroke on the same day in 2020. While he's in his 70's his family live to be in there 90s plus. It took over 2 years but he finally had bypass surgery last October and is doing well. I'll keep you in my prayers
Congratulations! Happy to hear you are feeling better.
You should be proud of the progress! You are awesome!
Glad for you, man. I’m on a same journey. It’s not vanity or weight loss culture for me. I just don’t want to feel bad and tired all the time. Thanks for sharing where you’re at.
Congrats! Not always the easiest thing losing weight especially when your self conscious. Really happy for you.
Thank you for sharing! It’s lovely that you are feeling better!
This is the kick in the ass I needed, brother. Thank you
That's great, Peter. Working on your health is never a bad thing and you should be dang proud of yourself for not only starting the process, but for also keeping to it. Amazing job!
You look so genuinely happy telling this story, and that's so awesome to see.
Congrats on how far you've come!
Thanks for sharing your journey Peter! Best wishes!!
congrats Peter! you're doing awesome!
This is amazing, so glad you can feel comfortable in your skin. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to get to your goal, as long as you are in a downward trend and you can maintain your better lifestyle both physically and mentally, you're doing a good job.
Thank you for sharing with such raw honesty--and HUGE congrats for doing this for you, and no one else.
Here's to more feeling happier with yourself, every day.
This is amazing! You are so levelheaded about all of this and it’s wonderful to see. Congratulations on getting to a point where you feel good ❤
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing your story. It is very inspirational and we’re all so proud of you!!
Peter! Congratulations on the progress you’ve made! I too had a similar wake up call about a year ago… I’ve got 2 kids under 3 years old and I want to be in their lives for MANY more years! I put in the work and made a lot of life changes too. Happy to show I’ve lost 35 lbs as well. It’s not 50, but it’s progress. And i have never felt better! Keep up the work you’re doing! You look great man!
I'm proud of you for your progress!
Also, very well done presenting your excitement for your own weight loss without shaming other people for their weight.
Awh delighted for you! You look great, and a lot happier.
Great job Peter, really proud of you!
You're doing great! Don't kick yourself for the time it took, those who love and care about you and your health wouldn't want you to take it to the other extreme and lose weight too rapidly. Slow and steady is the best in the long run and the healthiest for you in the short term and the long term, and I'll say it again. You are doing GREAT!❤
Both my parents were overweight when I was growing up. They both struggled in different ways, but in the end they both felt bad about how they were. Every person's journey is different, and every person's goal is their own. I am proud to see your progress, Peter. Feeling good is the best place to be.
Congrats Peter! I am currently undergoing the same life change, and sometimes I feel like everything has to happen at once. When I don't see results instantly it gets me down. But you're whole attitude has made me see it in a new light. Thank you!
That one of your best videos yet, thanks for sharing and keep up the outstanding work!!!
Very uplifting and encouraging. I have tried every diet, potion, pill and a surgery. I’m over #300 now. Your story gives hope.
Last year I weighed 160 lbs and from just walking around 25k steps everyday because of my job I have gotten down to 110 lbs and I am more than proud of myself. I still have a long way to go but I'm more than happy with how I look now! You should be too!!
You're 110lbs but you "have a long way to go"? How? At 5'4" 110 is ideal weight according to the BMI chart. Are you shorter than 5'4"? If not, you're actually underweight. If you're over 5'4" please please please get checked for an eating disorder. I'm worried about you.
This got me out of a rut. You’re awesome Peter, wish you the best health! Thanks for sharing
Congratulations, Peter. This is much needed motivation for myself!
Congratulations on your journey and thank you for sharing it with us.
Way to go, Peter! This is awesome to hear! Keep working on yourself to ensure you have more time with your family!
Congratulations! That's a huge amount of work!
Good on you, Peter.
Keep up the good work!
Been watching since the beginning, love everything you produce. You're a great teacher.
So glad you are doing this for you. This is great, and thanks for encouraging us through your sharing.
Congrats, man! 🎉 Amazing work 👍👏
Congrats on feeling better! Thank you for sharing, it couldn't have been easy.
It's so good to hear that you're happier in yourself!
We’re happy for you man, you look great
Sending love Peter and to anyone else on their own journey. Keep it up!
I'm so excited for you making the changes. Thats so awesome.
Who could dislike this video! You are the man Peter!
way to go man, you're looking great! I'm glad you're feeling better too. take care!
You look fantastic mate. You have given me some great motivation, thank you.
Lots of love to you - the channel and your work is awesome, you'll succeed with this as well.
