Omg Peter!! We need more Sanding Shanties!
We should call them that!
Yes!
And I'm sorry but I heard that in Lois Griffin's voice.
@@dansnow7 That makes it even better!!
@@dansnow7 I've been *SLAIN* I must now go catch my breath from laughing too hard omg
I’d buy this album.
I always smile when I see that he’s still using the joiner’s mallet made from milk jugs.
That is one of the more useful tools I've ever made. :)
It's the one of my top favorite mallets
Same
it's great seeing someone make and use the toold. if you only ever saw it sitting on a wall would be a bit boring. means there quality in the work
Casually reminding me just how long I've been watching Peter Brown 😂
it looks like a desert... like the cherry/strawberry cheesecake you get in those cheesecake samplers from the supermarket.
dessert*
I'd just edit the comment, but you loose the ❤️ if you do that lol.
this is what marshmallow & resin doesn’t turn out to be.
Was getting hungry watching the video😂
I thought similarly, but my guess was cake in jello~
12:45 this exposition is what I live for. You can never get enough of "It starts at 1500 and goes through to 12000".
when it could have started at 100 and gone to 3000. but they just picked some arbitrary number system. why not start at 90,000 and go to 1million
If there's one thing this channel has taught me, it's that micro-mesh is "it's own grit system".
You're just supporting my theory from ages ago that you're not a woodturner, you're a weirdturner. I love the end result of this, it reminds me of ice cubes in an adult beverage on a saturday evening.
Very cool!
A little advice though? You really don’t want to cut or break fire brick without N95 breathing protection. It can contain crystalline silica. We want you to stick around to make more videos. 🙂
Good to know. Thank you. The presence of silica is certainly one part of why it is so hard on the steel!
thinking same thing
@@peterbrownwastaken Silica and Ceramic, so like Slide100 said, please wear that dust mask next time (and some gloves, because if that stuff splinters while you're cutting it, you've got DEEP puncture wounds, because those shards can be *_sharp_* !).
Definitely don't want silicosis
I was about to comment the same thing. Really not good for you
Gotta say, I still appreciate you telling us how micromesh works, in case we forget. You should make something like micarta from your used micromesh
That’s a great idea!!
The handle reminds me a bit of strawberry shortcake.
Fun video and the fire brick definitely looks much more appealing than the brownie handle!
That's exactly what it reminds me of too!
Aluminum oxide, which they put in a lot of fire bricks, is very abrasive. You might want to deep clean.
Suggestion: cast LEGO’s in resin and make shoes out of them so you can walk on LEGO’s.
"... So you can walk on Legos"
I swear - when I read that the bottom of my foot immediately started itching and crumbled up 😅🤣
But indeed super fun idea
I think it’d be super cool if you used the stabilizing resin to get the bricks a bunch of different colors and then cast them in clear, white, or black
I know a couple people have mentioned the dust and silicosis so I thought I’d add in the same warning for if you decide to do anything with clay or things with clay dust! Idk what you’d use it for but in ceramics one of the first things they tell us is to be careful when cleaning up dust cause the particles are really fine and get into the lungs really easily so I thought I’d share just in case!
I've been getting art therapy (don't know the english term) for over a year now and none of the therapists have ever mentioned that the dust is dangerous. Some people even sanded their dried clay pieces.. Kind of concerning that hobbysists take more safety precautions than therapists 🤔
@@RamoArt that’s not great! I will say that we are told that people who are exposed to it for short amounts of time are typically fine as long as the studio is well ventilated but it gets into the air very easily so if you’re someone doing it for a career it’s dangerous no matter what. For the future if you’re sanding ceramics I would highly recommend that you wear some kind of protective mask and use a vacuum to catch most of the dust for both you and the people around you!
I remember in his old videos he was very safe with masks and respirators. I bet he's taking safety precautions.
@@RamoArtThe English term is probably exactly what you said, art therapy. Even if it has a more technical term or something, it's clear what you're referring to, so no worries.
Next its time to stabilize the firebrick and make knife scales! As always I love your videos!
Definitely
I want to see how well stabilized brick handles heat!
Was gonna' say. If firebricks are this absorbant, it should be possible to stabilise them. Probably be a massive pain to turn, though.
I genuinely appreciate the sounds of the stones rubbing together being so low that they didn't make me want to stuff forks into my ears, I tend to enjoy not being deaf.
I appreciate the escalation from turning the volume down to forks. It gave me a chuckle.
The way the red resin veins through the brick makes it look a little like a bloodshot eye. Super cool Peter!
I was thinking blood with chunks of broken bone
Ha! Yall! And here I was thinking strawberry syrup on shortcake. XD
i was thinking almost watermelon with the juice taken out
Would be super interesting to see if standard red construction bricks could work too!! Awesome vid
I think brownies done differently could’ve worked.
I think you’d need to bake them, then let them completely dry out, maybe even with a dehydrator and then cast them the same way you did the bricks.
Either way your end result looks amazing
Idk how well it would work out, but maybe you could also add some dark chocolate chips to it too?
He could have used a freeze dryer for removing all the water out of the finished brownies before casting.
Or brake up the brownies like Peter did with the firebrick with white resin to make it look like brownies and cream.
Oh, a freeze dryer would make for interesting dip it items
Guys your going the wrong direction. He needed to cut off the yellow end of candy corn and mix it with the brownie chunks.
The fire brick looks kinda like tofu floating in a chilli beef broth
I was thinking tofu in jello... Much more disgusting
@@pioneerAv same here!! That's all I can think.
Better than what I was thinking. But yeah...definitely a suspended organic thing.
@@karl_alanwere you thinking crushed bone in blood? Because that's what I was thinking
@@ettazhead cheese actually, but I get what you're saying
Fantastic singing as always, Peter. I feel like its been a while since weve heard you sing a classic like that. Made me happy to hear it again.
I’ve been watching you since high school (23yrs old now) and I’ve learned a lot of things from you! But the #1 thing I’ve learned from you is that you are a CRAZY man!
First of all, a musical video? THANK YOU! Second, I can't get past that it looks like meat and bone but that is somehow preferable to the brownie handle. Your videos always make me smile and bring such joy.
You'd think after the coffee tamper 1.0, you'd learn about casting brown things in resin!
You would think. :)
At least he's gathered a ton of experience for when he wants to cast a poop tp-holder!
He can’t help it, Brown is in his name! 😂😂😂
Man. That firebrick and red resin looks like it would make an epic chess, or backgammon board.
Wasnt expecting to hear my favorite sea shanty today. What a treat.
For your next project could you do some kind of up cycled piece of trash that would look cool I resin as a handle etc? I like the idea of using things that would have otherwise been binned and turning them into art
Man, it's been so long since I've heard you sing that I didn't realize how much I missed it until hearing it again. Thanks for the audio treat!
would be interesting to see if you could cut up the fire brick, and dye them fire brown alcohol ink and then cast in clear resin and have the brick look like brownies
That slide whistle sound when cutting the fire brick was very satisfying
Peter singing a sea shanty is what my soul needed. Thank you!
I really appreciate seeing someone else that ANY word could prompt a musical interlude. My husband never knows what might trigger a song.
I forgot how much I enjoy your singing when you do these things.
Not sure if you know this or not but I'd be careful about that coloring you get on your HSS tools. The machinists I've worked with have always said that coloring is the steel getting to hot and when it starts to take on color is the same time it'll start to lose it's hardness from being treated.
This is why it isn’t recommended to sharpen on a grinder, they are too fast and then the steel easily gets to hot. (Which destroys the hardening, which leads to softer steel and the user having to resharpen the whole time rather than using a sharp tool and being happy)
Better sticking to a machine with lower rpm like a Tormek or simply do it by hand. In this case he probably didn’t need to regrind the shape of the tool, only sharpen the edge, and that can be easily done by hand.
Although personally I do prefer a low rpm machine. Cause I’m lazy. And there’s great jiggs. But mostly lazy.
HSS will be absolutely fine even turning blue. HSS can handle temperatures of over 450°C dark blue temper is around 300°C. It's a common misconception carried over from carbon steel tool days. Even if the very edge has lost its temper even removing 0.1mm on the next grind would expose properly tempered steel as the heat wouldn't have penetrated very far
i'm glad you still showed the key parts of the brownie handle - maybe something else worth trying is waffle whist handle, or something along those lines. or a pancake - pancake flip handle etc
Have you considered making a jig to hold your blanks for trimming? Cut down on the wander. Yet another fun project.
😂😂😂 I absolutely love when Mr Brown sings, he has a great voice 😊😊😊
I would be careful with the dust that comes off those Fire bricks, and or using it in something you'll have near food
Two things. It's now completely sealed in resin, and I'm probably just going to keep it to look at. :)
If you ever did a second version of this, it'd be interested to see if you'd burn the bricks first then casted it, to add some of that burning marks to it. Maybe into a lava version?
I love how outside of the box you think! Creativity at its finest!
Love the colours of this. It looks amazing!!!
Wow what an amazing design. ❤
i love the little snippets of song we get in your videos
this material looks absolutely beautiful
So Beautiful!
Not a fan of the brownie handle, but what a great idea to try again with the brick. The red you chose is really pretty, and it looks very useful. I may have to get my lathe back out and try some projects. Thanks for the inspiration!
if you use fire bricks make sure to wear some Breathing protection like other people in the comments have been saying don't i want anyone to get hurt!
Ah yes, I remeber the fire brick from Grant's desktop furnace. Never thought it would work so well with the resin, I was totally expecting the birck pieces to float.
Love it! Lots of good info.
This is so cool!
This video is in a unique rabbit hole.
That looks amazing
Awesome work! That's a really beautiful piece!
April Wilkerson's laugh gives me the goosebumps!
Love the shape of that handle. Very nice
Mr. Brown singing sea chanties is the next viral UA-cam sensation!
Glad to see the hdpe mallet going strong! Great video and project as always Peter!
The handle looks so beautiful 😍😍
Looks cool.
Peter putting the BROWN in Brownie.
I for one, really enjoy the usual Micro Mesh Monologue
That is really cool!! Nice to see th again😉😉
Very awesome! Love the king of random channel, still watch till this day. It was a nice reference to an old video ❤️ I miss Grant Thompson he was fun to learn from. Great video!
Very nice!
The fire brick one reminds me of carved flesh. Fitting so close to Halloween now.
I just loved the singing today ... Seems like you're in such a good mood doing this handle ... Love it
Love the handle! Looks like strawberry jam and nougat to me! As always it’s a joy to hear you singing while you create 💛
Really Cool Color with the Brick and the Red Resin Mix 😎Cool Mixer
Reminds me of the old school jello molds with the translucent resin and the stark whiteness of the brick. Love it.
Turned out really well! Haha the double purpose for it you mentioned at the end wasn't something I expected.
Kinda looks like chunks of bone floating in blood, and it's honestly perfect with spooky season right around the corner lol
very cool!
OMG peter. i love that you went all Hutson Hawk when mixing resin. love it. keep having fun.
I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing you sing a full song of something. You seem to have a really good voice
Oh a bandsaw will cut refractory bricks all right, but it won't cut anything else after that 😂 it's super porous, that's why it crumbles and cuts so easily, but it's still made of a mineral binder and sand, so it still destroys any steel-toothed blade. There's are special handsaws, but those use carbide inlays.
I definitely enjoyed today's musical episode
Not only did this turn out great, but you actually made a pun. You made a Rock spatula for Rockler :)
It looks like strawberry syrup soaked cake. really nice!
It really warms my heart to see how many people are worried about Mr. Brown's health and warning him not to do this again because of the dust hazards. This is stuff you don't want to be ingesting.
This looks so good. Like sponge in a sherry trifle.
You just played my favorite game: there's a song for every occasion! Cool project!
I for one who love the sound of the brick.
Well now we have it = fire brick for the win! !! !!!
Very interesting that two soft materials made a hard material!
Very cool idea! What about making something with marbles in resin? I've never seen that before and could make an awesome effect with all the different colors of the marbles.
Thanks for the sponsorship, here's a handle I found while walking the dog 😅 I can see why you tried again!
Now that's upcycling!
Fun project! I had been suspicious that it'd end up looking like meat (white and red) but it looked super cool!
he looks great! i have never seen him with a tan
You’re a really good singer.
that first moment, when you grouped the pieces of brick, every hair on my body stood up lol
Love it. A lot nicer than the first try 🤣
Dude, you have an awesome voice!
I like when we see an old make being used in a viedo like the milk jug mallet. It's like seeing a character cameo in a long running show
Cool!
Firebricks usually have a lot of aluminum silicates and oxides in them so they're pretty abrasive, no wonder it was taking metal off your bandsaw and turning tools.
btw, Aluminum oxide is usually what's used in sanding/polishing tools and compounds because of how hard it is.
The singing made my day!
So cool looking peter
I need to remember to watch more of your videos because damn do I love your singing. Paired of course with your content 😊
That's like the coolest looking Peppermint I've ever seen
now you gone got that song stuck in my head.....thanks Peter😂😂😂
Amazing vid, very classy. Cant say I didn't like the brownie handle but fantastic stuff. Love all you do.
I think this would look really cool as a single solid piece of brick impregnated with resin rather than a bunch of smaller floating chunks, specifically because of how well the resin penetrated and how good that texture looks. If you can consistently get the resin to penetrate deep into the brick, ensuring that when you turn it down there won't be any exposed dry brick, it'd make for some really cool surfaces. Maybe a bowl?
