I work for a US satellite manufacturer, and we use Antonov's all the time to move the satellites from the manufacturing facility to launch base. Every Antonov crew that I have dealt with were true professionals in every sense of the word. Hats off to some of the finest pilots in the world! За здоровье!
He's talking about the illusion that allows us to see them spinning in the opposite direction here. We can only see that because they appear to be spinning so slow...but ultimately it's just an effect of the frame capture rate if the camera.
Truly amazing. Anyone know if this plane is as loud as the Tupolev95 bomber? I have heard that it is deafening inside due to the turboprops and counter rotating props...
Propellers is not an illusion, it's the beat frequency between the prop rpm and screen flickering. This effect will be visible on all screens with periodic updating.
I must congratulate you for your unique material of the Aviation world, presented in your page. Bad A.s. Never seen something similar, rare and pristine. Counter rotation blades, noisy as suspected, in the sea this propulsion system works very efficiently high torque , high speeds. Thanks for sharing with Mankind.
In case viewers didn't know, these NK-12 turbines were actually designed by a German/Austrian team which had been deported to the Soviet Union in 1946. After its development the foreign technicans were released since by then Russian engineering had caught up enough so they weren't needed any more
Very cool but very noisy. Love that noise! Similar to the Avro Shackleton, the Russian Bear Tu-95MS and I think the Antonov An-70 that utilizes the scimitar shaped contra rotating props. Very cool to see and hear.
If it weren't for extream sound footprint- Technical construct & operational complexities of this type of turoprop propulsion, I'm sure that most turboprop aircraft world wide would be propelled by similar powerplants!.
Tears in my eyes... Russia damaged this one😭😭😭😭 Sound sends chills down Beautiful plane smiling to me Dang, what a Beauty❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ And who isn't in love with soviet aviation?❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Russians? Yep, there are only 3 nations on the Earth: nation that use cyrillic alphabet are russians, latin alphabet - British people and that use hieroglyphics and other strange symbols are сhinese...
I now that this may sound corny but the reason that the plane as 2 sets of propellers on each engine is becasue of the planes size, it probably wouldnt be able to leave the ground if it didnt have those extra sets of propellers, right???
Counter rotation blades engines are the most power efficient of all types. The problem is that they are so noisy, that it is prohibited to use them by the norms of ICAO. You should get permission for every flight. But, there is another plane, An-70, that uses the same type of engine, but the propellers are of special sub-sonic design, that makes them quieter and extremely efficient. There is only one plane built, but it is fully certified.
These are two sides of the same coin. Big planes require efficiency in the same manner an olympic athlete requires a lean meal. It needs just the right amount of power, over just the rigjt time frame.
Where did you get that ICAO noise ban from? As far as I know, the ICAO noise classification is for jet aircraft only, and the turboprops are non-classed regarding noise.

The illusion going on with the propellers is really cool
You mean that one spins into another direction as the one behind?
If yes, this is real. :D

In case of, AN22 has 2 props per turbine and they are opposite rotation...
EazyNow1 It's caused by the camera framerate. It's closely related to the illusion you are talking about but in a much faster pace
That was a really great smooth landing
Kaitydid74 yeah. Makes me question what the hell is Boeing and Airbus are doing on landing. There wasn't even a shack when this thing landed.
Watching this flight and examining those counter rotating props inspires me to buy a 1/72 model kit. I've got to get one I'm hooked.
The sound of the turboprop engines is fantastic....
Actually the stroboscopic effect makes the illusion of the props going backwards!......best turboprops in the world.
Amazing! Antonov AN22 is the best cargo aircraft in the world in my opinion!
The sound of the props just digging into the air is something else
Great landing. I love the sound of those big turbo-props. Are they the same engines as on the Tupolev TU-95?
Great video of great plane! 528 mph top speed - wow
thank you very beautiful video !!!
I love Turbo props
COOL VIDEO DON T YOU JUST LOVE THE SOUND OF THOSE THINGS HOW COOL IT IS TO BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THAT SOUND WITH A SYNTHISIZER
Jesus...great video and what an incredibly smooth landing.
compare this to that time to present time abu dubai, like omg dubai just chill, dang that progress
Great machine, beautiful propellers ,
IMPRESSIONANTE!!!!!!! SUAS HÉLICES DE CONTRA-ROTAÇÃO FAZEM SOM DE BESOUROS GIGANTES BATENDO ASAS!!!!!!!
O som do NK-12 é lindo.
this aircraft is crazy I love it
Truly amazing. Anyone know if this plane is as loud as the Tupolev95 bomber? I have heard that it is deafening inside due to the turboprops and counter rotating props...
cool how the camera makes the props look like they are hardly spinning

Awesome, fantástico, beautiful

*Great Sound*
This plane is my love❤❤❤❤❤
Nice to hear that I was able to do you are favor with the video :)

awkwarddude an 70 has different props. They break supper sonic barrier. One of the kind.
That landing though!
love that sound to?
Stunning !!!
woooow very good video!
Esse sistema de propulsão é fantástico.
Que Deus abençoe todos vcs e nós também amém 🙏.
can you please explain how the to props are on one engine and counter rotating? !
This is Epicyclic gearing (you can find it in Wikipedia).
Awesome sound sounds alot like a Convair B36
A greaser of a landing. Nice.
I wish if it landed in SHJ which was like an oasis for soviet era aircrafts
Looks like the back propellers spin at twice the speed (rpm) as the front ones do. Just an illusion or was the gearbox set this way?
RPM from twice props are the same: 750rpm
Paradise? Looks like an expensive desert to me
super!

Camera can't catch movements faster than its fps rate.
Tears in my eyes... Russia damaged this one😭😭😭😭
Sound sends chills down
Beautiful plane smiling to me

Yeah I miss it as well it was such a beautiful plane. The props are so heavy and nice, im glad I was able to catch this last video.
good
those props though!
Great Ukrainian aircraft
We used to laugh about the Russians launching a sneak attack because their aircraft are so noisy we could hear them before they came over the horizon.
getplaning It's flat!
Russians? Yep, there are only 3 nations on the Earth: nation that use cyrillic alphabet are russians, latin alphabet - British people and that use hieroglyphics and other strange symbols are сhinese...
Only primitive morons would think that planes are detected by engine noise. Planes are detected by radar, hundreds of miles away from target.
the props appear to be going the wrong way!
Show
Ukrainian aircraft whit russian engine-kuznetsov

Study about contra-rotating propellers' use. Extra thrust is not the only reason.
Due to my 1 like this video got 1thousand likes haha anyways loved it.
225
Damn..what a God forsaken desert...
Very loud
This was my 2nd favourite plane in the world and the russians destroyed this as well
No they didn't destroyed it, but it's damaged and there's hope it will be repaired
first
Fantastic airplane! Russian use to make unique amazing machines!!!
