    I work for a US satellite manufacturer, and we use Antonov's all the time to move the satellites from the manufacturing facility to launch base. Every Antonov crew that I have dealt with were true professionals in every sense of the word. Hats off to some of the finest pilots in the world! За здоровье!

    The illusion going on with the propellers is really cool

      You mean that one spins into another direction as the one behind?

      If yes, this is real. :D

      He's talking about the illusion that allows us to see them spinning in the opposite direction here. We can only see that because they appear to be spinning so slow...but ultimately it's just an effect of the frame capture rate if the camera.

      In case of, AN22 has 2 props per turbine and they are opposite rotation...

      EazyNow1 It's caused by the camera framerate. It's closely related to the illusion you are talking about but in a much faster pace

      Kaitydid74 yeah. Makes me question what the hell is Boeing and Airbus are doing on landing. There wasn't even a shack when this thing landed.

    Watching this flight and examining those counter rotating props inspires me to buy a 1/72 model kit. I've got to get one I'm hooked.

    Great landing. I love the sound of those big turbo-props. Are they the same engines as on the Tupolev TU-95?

    Propellers is not an illusion, it's the beat frequency between the prop rpm and screen flickering. This effect will be visible on all screens with periodic updating.

    I must congratulate you for your unique material of the Aviation world, presented in your page. Bad A.s. Never seen something similar, rare and pristine. Counter rotation blades, noisy as suspected, in the sea this propulsion system works very efficiently high torque , high speeds. Thanks for sharing with Mankind.

    In case viewers didn't know, these NK-12 turbines were actually designed by a German/Austrian team which had been deported to the Soviet Union in 1946. After its development the foreign technicans were released since by then Russian engineering had caught up enough so they weren't needed any more

    Very cool but very noisy. Love that noise! Similar to the Avro Shackleton, the Russian Bear Tu-95MS and I think the Antonov An-70 that utilizes the scimitar shaped contra rotating props. Very cool to see and hear.

    If it weren't for extream sound footprint- Technical construct & operational complexities of this type of turoprop propulsion, I'm sure that most turboprop aircraft world wide would be propelled by similar powerplants!.

    I now that this may sound corny but the reason that the plane as 2 sets of propellers on each engine is becasue of the planes size, it probably wouldnt be able to leave the ground if it didnt have those extra sets of propellers, right???

    • @Кукиш-ы5н
      @Кукиш-ы5н 8 років тому +4

      Counter rotation blades engines are the most power efficient of all types. The problem is that they are so noisy, that it is prohibited to use them by the norms of ICAO. You should get permission for every flight. But, there is another plane, An-70, that uses the same type of engine, but the propellers are of special sub-sonic design, that makes them quieter and extremely efficient. There is only one plane built, but it is fully certified.

    • @widg3tswidgets416
      @widg3tswidgets416 8 років тому

      These are two sides of the same coin. Big planes require efficiency in the same manner an olympic athlete requires a lean meal.
      It needs just the right amount of power, over just the rigjt time frame.

    • @Itapirkanmaa2
      @Itapirkanmaa2 8 років тому

      Where did you get that ICAO noise ban from? As far as I know, the ICAO noise classification is for jet aircraft only, and the turboprops are non-classed regarding noise.

      Study about contra-rotating propellers' use. Extra thrust is not the only reason.
