I actually really appreciate that you kept your "failed" first attempt at "plug and play" because that's EXACTLY what I experienced when I went to plug in my LED light. Same as you, I swapped the wiring around (actually tried many other combos too), but kept getting High Beams on all the time, and when flashing my high beams, it turned off... Then searched a bit and found that Toyotas are switched ground, and these lamps assume a more standard switched positive. So we need the relay wiring kit you ordered (or I guess you can wire it yourself, but for $18, the parts and time to do it is worth that much).
Had I seen your video before I started this project, I would have known what to expect and saved some time, but oh well, it's always trial and error with these old Toyotas.
BTW, my car is a 1986 MR2 (AW11), and I also have a 1988 Celica (ST165) and 1992 Celica (ST185): they all had the same issue - pretty safe to assume any old Toyotas with the H6054 7x6 headlights have the same wiring.
P.S. Also got a good laugh about the rusted headlight ring retainer screw. Those damn things are always rusted on every Toyota I had and the Vise Grip method is my favorite method too!

Good video. I went from using one, to using two H4 harnesses. The stock Toyota has redundancy (separate fuses for left and right). This setup only uses one Toyota fuse and has only one fuse going from the battery to both headlights. Either fuse blows and both headlights go out at the same time. With two harnesses, I'm using both Toyota fuses left and right, and now running separate fuses for left and right headlights from the battery. Interesting, the high beam indicator light on the dash didn't work with one harness, but now works with two.
I simply cut off the part of the harness I was no longer using that went to the second headlight, capped off the exposed wire ends with small wire nuts and some electrical tape. I then added wire to the hot on one harness to reach across to the battery. I used the leftover wire and conduit to lengthen the hot and soldered and taped the connections on the hot. Then it's just plug and play.
A good investment for only 17 dollars for the second harness.
Much, much safer to have each side fused separate so you don't risk losing both headlights at once!

Nice video…definitely a big upgrade over the stock H6054 sealed beams. I also ran into the same issue when installing my JW Speaker 8900 H6054 LED headlights on my 1994 Toyota pickup. Toyota trucks use a double switched ground system which causes the issue since the LED’s headlights are designed to work with a switched positive system. After installing the H4 harness all worked perfectly. Light output is excellent with a very clean cut-off. High beams are insanely bright and usable! Yours came out great!👍🏻

You'll need to splice into the factory wires for those lights. I didn't get those kind because I wanted to leave the original wiring alone in case I ever go back to stock.

What year is this truck??? You should mention it in the video, title, and or description. You don't in any of them. I just upgraded mine with the newest 2021 lights like these but with the DRL / turn signal lens at the bottom. I replaced the 4 trim ring screws with stainless steel which are M4 -.07 x 10mm.

Also do you have any preferences for aftermarket accessories such as winches+bumper, led tail lights, etc? Thank you so much for knowledge and time you share with the community. #legend 👍🏾🔥

I've never worked on the 89+ trucks, but I've bought parts from LCE, Low Range, Trail Gear, 22re performance - all good companies. Old Man Emu, Marlin Crawler are a couple more good ones. Just stay away from the cheap stuff made in china and you'll be good.
