One of your players in this episode actually reminded me of another great player. Back in the early 80's there was club in my hometown "Rutland VT" that got some great acts we used to go see. I was introduced to Chris Impellitteri there and he was fantastic but another of his brethren used to also come to play there Jimi Bell! Not sure if your familiar with him or ever heard of Jimi but he's another great player and a friend of Chris's. @@joehansonguitar please do he's worth checking out. Just a side note here, he also wrote the song "Master of Insanity" which became a Black Sabbath song on the Dehumanizer" album. great call on barre, we used to know is an amazing lead, and his work on the benefit album is fantastic. Hidden gems all throughout their career, broadsword and the beast album, heavy horses, minstrel in the gallery, crest of a knave
I think Adam Granduciel from The War On Drugs is underrated. Great call on Martin Barre though. I'm sure you have heard Jethro Tull's live album, A Little Light Music, but you should check it out if you haven't already. Barre's playing on that album is downright inspiring. Me and friend saw Jethro Tull live at the Riviera Ballroom in Chicago in 1992 when we were in highschool and it was probably the best rock concert I ever witnessed, besides the Eagles at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin in '94 just after they'd gotten back together from having been broken up the previous 13 or 14 years. Also, great call on Doyle Dykes. I watch Doyle's Sunday String Along on UA-cam every Sunday morning. Muriel Anderson might be the greatest female guitar player of all time, maybe even just guitar player period, but she doesn't get anywhere near the recognition she deserves and is probably not even known by many people except guitar nerds like myself.
I’m not familiar with Adam but I’m going to check him out. There’s been a few new names that viewers have mentioned that I’m really digging! I’m also planning a separate series just on the lady players!
I first heard Bill Nelson in the 80's on pioneering alt station WLIR - NY. Initially it was his more New Wave synth stuff like " Flaming Desire" and "My Acceleration" , then I discovered his Be Bop Deluxe era and saw what guitar chops he had. Definitely a diverse and talented guy!
Got a couple more suggestions for you…. Joel Hoekstra and, speaking of Canadian guitarists, Honeymoon Suite’s Derry Grehan. Dude’s like the long lost love child of Eddie Van Halen and Phil Collen.
This is a great series! I agreed with you a lot regarding the ones that you didn’t like all that much. 🤣… hey don’t forget about Eddie Hazel from Funkadelic, Ernie Isley both awesome influential players 💯👍🏾🤘🏾
How about Barry Baily & J.R Cobb from Atlanta Rhythm Section, both great players that never got the they recognition deserved. Always got tickets for backstage and their recording of a few songs off the Champagne Jam album (at that time), my Mom's first cousin married into Ronnie Hammond's family; a very long story. Their bass player had the number 2 live bass solo (Another Man's Women Live LP) of all time by Bass Player magazine back in the late 70's. He was a great guitar player as well.....
Wow !!! i just watched a Rig Rundown on the Custom Stratocaster Robin Trower Use's to get his sound yesterday and he made this week's list..Cool ..A few on this list could go on your list that Make me want to stop playing Guitar 🤣Outstanding Talent make's me Sick🤣🤣🤣J/K Of Course but another Great List .✌😎
You have to get Jeff Watson and Joel Hoekstra in there sometime. Also, not that he's famous enough (yet) to make these lists, but there's a Canadian band called Leave Those Kids Alone and the lead guitarist just turned 17 and is a great player. Not a bad singer either. They cover classic rock songs and they do it very well. Beatles, Frampton, Styx, Cheap trick, Ozzy....... you should check them out.
My first pick for underrated/appreciated guitarists… Jim West. He’s Weird Al’s guitarist. That guy can not only play any style out there but he can PARODY every player out there. Not just copy them but he has enough respect and ability to caricature anybody. Think about a guy who is such an ace at any style of guitar that we have no idea who is playing that stuff.
That’s like the session guys who had to play guitar on Tom and Jerry cartoons and the like. Incredibly difficult to play the right stuff on a first take since everything was tape back then. Thanks for the suggestion!! 🎸🔥✌🏻
Gifted guitar Ladies? I recommend, originally from Toronto, Donna Grantis; simply awesome! I also would like to put a word in for Colin James, serious blues chops.
James Moginie and Martin Rotsey are the guitar tandem in Midnight Oil, both are great. James is multi instrument talented and one hell of a songwriter.
I had a buddy in high-school who learned to play by ear and was self taught. His two favorite players were Alex Lifeson and Al Demiola. Have you ever done a video or reaction to Al Demiola? I think I probably really butchered the last name.
I’m not a huge country music fan but do appreciate good guitar. I’m not sure if he’s been mentioned but Keith Urban is really good. Check out “Clutterbilly” when was with The Ranch.
Hard to believe it took 6 installments to get to Robin Thrower and Bill Nelson! Loved BeBop Deluxe probably cried when Nelson broke band up in 1977 so he could make goofy industrial music 😢 what a shame!
Next time you should include John Norum from the band Europe. His solo work is great! And every solo on the Final Countdown album is a classic.Great melodies and feel. And listen to the solo in"Hold Your Head Up"(Europe)The best tone ever.
Trower is a wonderful player. But, when I hear his name, I immediately think of James Dewars voice! And a big YES on Bachman! He played for the songs, period!
Here's a few more:Shawn Lane, Richard Thompson, Kim Mitchell, Todd Rundgren, Ronnie Montrose, Barry Bailey, Ollie Halsall, Nils Lofgren, Oz Noy, Jimmy Herring, Rick Derringer ,Trevor Rabin, Brett Garsed, Andy Latimer, Zal Yanovsky, and most importantly...SHAWN LANE!!!
Saga,, yes,yes yes.. Martin Barre hell yeah. I was lucky enough to click on this lady playing the blues years ago, Ana Popovic, i hope its spelled right but shes a beast..
@@joehansonguitar Ethan Brosh is one of the best players I've ever seen. Nili played in his band as he was opening act for Yngwie. There is a video on UA-cam in witch he playes with George Lynch. Breathtaking!

Absolutely right on diverse. The guy is truly an underrated gem! ✌🏻
Got a couple more suggestions for you…. Joel Hoekstra and, speaking of Canadian guitarists, Honeymoon Suite’s Derry Grehan. Dude’s like the long lost love child of Eddie Van Halen and Phil Collen.
Awesome!! Got them on the list!!
This is a great series! I agreed with you a lot regarding the ones that you didn’t like all that much. 🤣… hey don’t forget about Eddie Hazel from Funkadelic, Ernie Isley both awesome influential players 💯👍🏾🤘🏾
Awesome bro! I’m keeping the list rolling!!
Yeah man! I’ve got them on my list! What a great story!
Wow !!! i just watched a Rig Rundown on the Custom Stratocaster Robin Trower Use's to get his sound yesterday and he made this week's list..Cool ..A few on this list could go on your list that Make me want to stop playing Guitar 🤣Outstanding Talent make's me Sick🤣🤣🤣J/K Of Course but another Great List .✌😎
Great minds think alike! Thanks for your continued support!!
Watson and Hoekstra for sure soon. I’m really interested to check out Leave those kids alone. ✌🏻
Someone go get Doyle's guitar case - it's the one that says "Bad Motherfucker" on it.
You know that’s right 🔥🔥🔥
Why not show some vintage Martin Barre in his prime..also with better audio quality. One of my favorites since the late 60s!!!
I’d like to eventually do an entire video dedicated to him. ✌🏻
Hey Joe, I posted this on The Blues Rock Experience today. Nice list. Still missing some Boomers, but we're doing ok.
Hey man!! I’m still working through my list. Who would you recommend for next week?
@@joehansonguitar Duane Allman and Dickey Betts are great choices. If you want to go back a bit Hubert Sumlin and Johnny Otis.
Of course the great Peter Green in his short 3 years with Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. He put Eric to shame..
Another great list!!
Thank you 🙏🏻🎸✌🏻
My first pick for underrated/appreciated guitarists…
Jim West.
Excellent suggestions!! Thank you 🙏🏻
Colin James opened for George Thorogood at 16 and for Stevie Ray at 18. He was a last minute opener for SRV and SRV had him back the following summer.
James Moginie and Martin Rotsey are the guitar tandem in Midnight Oil, both are great. James is multi instrument talented and one hell of a songwriter.
Oh man! Great choices!!
I had a buddy in high-school who learned to play by ear and was self taught. His two favorite players were Alex Lifeson and Al Demiola. Have you ever done a video or reaction to Al Demiola? I think I probably really butchered the last name.
I haven’t done a video about Di Meola yet but that’s a great idea!
Matthew Sweet and Brian Eno. Great to see Trower and Tipton.
Awesome bro! Thanks for the suggestions!
Andy Timmons. Awesome. 👍😁✌️
One of the best!!
I’m not a huge country music fan but do appreciate good guitar. I’m not sure if he’s been mentioned but Keith Urban is really good. Check out “Clutterbilly” when was with The Ranch.
I’ll be adding him eventually. I saw him in concert a few years ago and was very impressed!
Greg Howe. Great melodic player and improviser. Unique and very talented.
Definitely! He’s on my list for an upcoming episode ✌🏻🎸
When you said Canadian band I thought "Triumph" and Rik Emmettt. totally forgot about Saga.
Yeah man, Rik was in episode 3:
ua-cam.com/video/fVbaAZaml9o/v-deo.htmlsi=pe79LSjI1f6FnxUn
Steve Rothery of Marillion.
Excellent!
Hard to believe it took 6 installments to get to Robin Thrower and Bill Nelson! Loved BeBop Deluxe probably cried when Nelson broke band up in 1977 so he could make goofy industrial music 😢 what a shame!
Sorry man for the delay, I was literally just going down my list lol
Michael Hedges needs to be on one of these lists.
I agree, he’s in my list!
Had another thought on lady guitarists. Charo was a great classical and flamenco guitarist. Studied under Andre Segovia for a while.
Yes, great idea!
You gotta check out Jimmy herring! Of Aquarium Rescue Unit Fame! Just blisters it! So underatted its criminal.
Alright, Jimmy should be in next weeks episode!! ✌🏻
Harry K Cody, from Shotgun Messiah
Perfect!!
Great episode
Thanks!
Next time you should include John Norum from the band Europe. His solo work is great! And every solo on the Final Countdown album is a classic.Great melodies and feel. And listen to the solo in"Hold Your Head Up"(Europe)The best tone ever.
Great recommendation! I will definitely put him on my list for a future episode! ✌🏻
Randy Bachman is a great guitarist. Great to see him up here. Great vid
Yeah man! Excellent musician!
How about Thom Bresh and/or Buster B. Jones?
Thanks for the suggestions!! ✌🏻
Trower is a wonderful player. But, when I hear his name, I immediately think of James Dewars voice!
And a big YES on Bachman! He played for the songs, period!
😎🎸🔥
Here's a few more:Shawn Lane, Richard Thompson, Kim Mitchell, Todd Rundgren, Ronnie Montrose, Barry Bailey, Ollie Halsall, Nils Lofgren, Oz Noy, Jimmy Herring, Rick Derringer ,Trevor Rabin, Brett Garsed, Andy Latimer, Zal Yanovsky, and most importantly...SHAWN LANE!!!
Nice! A couple of those are in next weeks episode! 🤘🏻
Killer guitarists all of them. 🔥🎸
Absolutely!!
Don't forget about Captain Sensible.
Wot
Please check out John Cann, from Atomic Rooster.
Excellent! 🤘🏻
What about Buckethead,? A great guitar player that you don't hear much about.
He’s coming soon!
Would be better if you put the title of the song so we can look up and listen to the full version after watching this video.
Will do! ✌🏻
Have you featured Richard Thompson yet?
Not yet!
Gabriela Quintero would be an excellent addition to a list of lady guitar players. Increadible flemenco style rhythm playing.
Excellent! Thanks for the suggestion! ✌🏻
Saga,, yes,yes yes.. Martin Barre hell yeah. I was lucky enough to click on this lady playing the blues years ago, Ana Popovic, i hope its spelled right but shes a beast..
Nice!!! Thank you 🙏🏻
Tony Clarkin, Magnum (RIP) is one for this list.
Girls? Nili Brosh and
Boys... her brother Ethan, a monster!
I agree about the girls. Nili is phenomenal. I haven’t heard her brother yet!
@@joehansonguitar
Ethan Brosh is one of the best players I've ever seen. Nili played in his band as he was opening act for Yngwie.
There is a video on UA-cam in witch he playes with George Lynch. Breathtaking!
Apologies if I missed it, but no Dave Murray? Sweet, sweet legato
Great suggestion! Thanks
I like Robin Trower, but can't help wondering what he would have done if Hendrix never showed up. Same goes for SRV and maybe Frank Marino.
Interesting thoughts!!
How about Bill Kirchen from The Lost Planet Airmen, or Chris Cheney from The Living End? Also as I've mentioned before, Francis Rossi and Status Quo.
I’m adding them to my list, thanks 🙏🏻
Some missing from your list.
Chris Degarmo
Mark Knofler
Devin Townsend
John Petrruci
I’m working down my list little by little! ✌🏻
Also Kenny Wayne Sheppard
Ian Moore
Superb mentions👍
Tommy Denander. Look at his amazing resume.
Yes! Thanks for the suggestions!
Gary Richrath....from REO speed wagon should be on this list.
Yeah man! He was in last weeks episode:
ua-cam.com/video/4KEkrXeJ7p0/v-deo.htmlsi=oepV_1mKmrb87j8H
glad to see Ian Crichton gets nods, here...try playing some of his stuff...very tasty, and a lot of it is challenging...
Yeah man! I enjoy learning some of his stuff and I agree it’s very challenging!
Andy Timmons is a BEAST!💯🤘🏾Killer tone, one of the best in the biz💣🎸🔥🔥🫡
Damn straight!!
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you 🙏🏻
You are welcome also what is your favorite year from the 2010s ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Every guitar player here could easily be a top ten ..... Or top twenty . Great list .....😅
Definitely! Thanks!
Trower ROCKS!
Absolutely!!
Heart warming to see Mr. Bachman on this list.
Such an amazing musician!
@@joehansonguitar Outro on "Shotgun rider" on acoustic guitar. Do not know if it is Randy, but it is amazing!
Larry Coryell
Got to meet him during a jazz clinic when I worked at a music store in high school in the early 90’s and was completely blown away. Super nice guy also.
Vivian Campbell
Excellent choice 🎸🔥🔥
Leo Kottke would be a great addition to this series. One of the best finger stylists of all time.
Absolutely!! Thanks for the suggestion!!
