Love this series Joe. I’ve been on your comments fairly regularly, and you’ve picked some of my suggestions (Bill Nelson, Rory Gallagher) but still resisting Richard Thompson? Also, Kerry Livgren of Kansas deserves a shout out
Thanks for your support, I’m getting to Thompson eventually. I’ve got some other videos I have to do first and will resume this series in a few weeks. 😎
Wow! Keep these vids coming. It’s awesome. Got another one for you, Todd Rundgren… one of the few guitarists I ever thought could dig a little soul out of an SG 😀
Great episode and really enjoyed all of these guys. One suggestion I would make put some subtitles to show the venue, year, and the group that they are playing with as well as the song/ piece the solo is from. So sad to hear about Michael Hedges. Did not know that he had died.
Killing it again Joe! Henry Gross did the sad dog song Shannon drifting out to sea. I had no idea how talented a musician. Learn some new stuff every day
Great selection again. Nice to see some innovative acoustic players, have we had Davey Graham yet? Mostly forgotten today, but he mastered so many styles and wrote Anji (covered by Paul Simon) when he was only 19. And for the electric guitar I'd nominate Zal Cleminson from The Sensational Alex Harvey Band and Nazareth. He gets a great tone from his SG on SAHB's Delilah.
Thanks for the Michael Hedges inclusion that clip really hit home. Very emotional connection to that song. Seen that clip many times. Love Ariel Boundaries great choice for a clip. I luckily got to see Michael not to long before he was taken from us. The show was at a college and I wasn't too far away from him, when he started to play Ariel Boundaries I got so excited hooting I actually made him screw up for a second 😂 LoL it was kinda funny, he quickly recovered but I'll never forget that I actually for a moment affected Michael Hedges, I will never forget that or him and I'll forever miss him 😔
@aschule, I'm a 70 yo Englishman Londoner and mainly interested in electric guitar players/ing. BUT aside from a smattering of Johnny Cash albums in my collection, Michael is just about the only acoustic music I have. It greatly saddened me on his passing as I think I had only just discovered him and his music, I would have dearly loved to have seen him play, 😭😭. One thing that our host never mentioned - why would he, he is focussed on playing - was Michael's INCREDIBLE vocals: I've seen footage of him signing 'All Along The Watchtower' that blows EVERY other version I've seen into last week: I truly believe he was a generational talent all round, signing/composing/playing. RIP MH

Brother Joe. The acoustic players are my favorites in this #7 installment. Good call on the ARS. Is the little red rocker, Sammy Hagar get all the love he's earned? From his conspicuous absence on 1-7 I assume he does. David Pack, a monster guitar player and songwriter from Ambrosia surely does not. Another great effort my friend. I have a lot of fun with these episodes.
I love the fact you are giving love to these amazing and underrated guitarists! With that said, have you featured Warren Cuccurullo formerly of Zappa, Missing Persons and Duran Duran? There's a video of him playing an instrumental version of "Ordinary World" that is off the charts good.
Thanks Chuck! I haven’t featured him yet but as a huge fan of Franks music and Duran Duran, I’ve always dug his playing.I’ll feature him in an upcoming episode! ✌🏻

Not sure how much you delve into metal and I may have left a comment about them before but Matt Bochand and John Donais are an amazing guitar duo that are severely underrated. Every time I listen to shadows fall I end up playing air guitar. Their riffs and solos are just fantastic
Hey Joe, Sorry, had to make the reference there. 😂 So glad to see this first thing in the morning for my 0530 drive to work. Those who know… know. I immediately think of "Steve Hunter" when I hear Dick Wagner mentioned! Probably the most mind blowing thing I ever heard was learning that Steve Hunter was actually the guy that played all the lead guitar parts on Aerosmith's GET YOUR WINGS version of Train Kept a Rollin. For years I always credited that to being Joe Perry's finest work, what a shocker to learn that 🤯
@@joehansonguitar Steve would have never leaked this info but, his wife on the other hand did some years back. I then later heard Steve actually talking about it. He was at the same studio as Aerosmith doing some session work and went out for a cigarette. I forget who approached him if it was their manager or who I don't remember but someone came outside while he was having a smoke and asked if he wanted to play and he and his Les Paul oblidged. Saw Jimmy Herring when he toured with John McLaughlin, playing Mahavishnu Orchestra songs for the first time in so many years. Seeing those two trade licks was quite a treat!
It was an experience I thought I would never have. McLaughlin retired Mahavishnu when I was 18 and he rarely played those songs again. I saw the first iteration of Shakti a few years later. But the Jimmy Herring/John McLaughlin tour in 2017 gave me a chance! I saw them in Austin and was so blown away that I flew to LA to see the final show of the tour. I also just saw the latest Shakti tour in 2023. McLaughlin has looong been a favorite!

How about make a list of all the people who aren't on the list because they obviously get the L&R from the world. Then guys like me won't have to wonder who will not be in subsequent installments. Very good Christian guitarists, (outside of Phil Keaggy), hardly get any attention. Rob Hartman of Petra is a great axe man and song writer, I consider him among the best in the world. I can't say I ever heard you play, but if you can play the black page 1or 2, then you gotta be in the category of people 1-7 (so far).
Lee, if you check out my channel there’s some clips of me playing Howard Leese, Ozzy, Skynyrd, Clapton etc. I haven’t played the Black Page in a while but should dust it off and make a video!
@joehansonguitar my dear brother, I didn't see anything you have done before UGP 1-7. That very first episode I watched impressed me enough to sub to your channel. I'm not going to stop either. Howard Leese of Heart? I always thought that he was just OK, compared to Roger Fisher. But, he is 1000× better than me. I'm a drummer who can play guitar and other instruments, and I also sing. My best skill is crafting songs.
SOOOO glad Jimmy Herring got some love!! I've seen him about 30+X from Col Bruce & ARU to Widespread Panic & many other bands/jams in between. Saw him again about 9 months ago with WP & he was on 🔥🔥!!

@@joehansonguitar He’s not really a shredder but he definitely brings it on Spanish Caravan!
@rrrayrrray he’s definitely musical. Shredders don’t impress me too much anymore

Srry Joe can't believe I missed him.. lol.. definitely one of my favorites seen him a few times here in the D ...
Hedges was good. Had slipped my mind
Very “outside the box “ thinking and playing
Tommy Bolin !!!

SOOOO glad Jimmy Herring got some love!! I've seen him about 30+X from Col Bruce & ARU to Widespread Panic & many other bands/jams in between. Saw him again about 9 months ago with WP & he was on 🔥🔥!!
I’ve not seen a clip where he wasn’t on fire. It’s like he’s from another planet!! 🎸🔥
