Andy LaRoque was a nice surprise, he's a fantastic very original guitarist. Never heard anyone quite like him. He actually reminds me of another guitar player I'd like to see here Chris Poland! I've never heard anything quite like Chris. Hearing Chris play makes it hard for me to believe he was ever in Megadeath. He seems to be something very much outside that genre to me. He's got the most unique bends and vibrato I've ever heard.
@@joehansonguitar I honestly never heard any MD with Chris that I'm aware of. I was watching a NAM video of Chris and I'd never heard of him before that. I was blown away by his style. Very unique
These are really good lists man. I would like to add Barry Bailey from Atlanta Rhythm Section. The live version of 'So Into You' off the album 'Are You Ready' has some awesome note choices. His style is awesome.
Gary Richrath...so tasteful and a great picker. I think younger folks think of the ballads REO put out, but "Roll With the Changes" was a fierce song (in a parade of them). Terry Kath, well Jimi Hendrix admired him and he played with one of the greatest musical ensembles ever, but still rose to the top as "cream of the crop". Everyone should watch Chicago live from Tanglewood.
Still a few omissions… by the way, surprised you went with the later Morse material, I would’ve assumed his Dixie Dregs material would be more iconic and showcasing his amazing skills as a player and composer.
Between 1975 and 1979 I was a 12-15 year old and my biggest guitar influences were Rik Emmett and Ace Frehley then in 1980 my cousin took me to a REO Speedwagon concert and Gary Richrath blew me away and was the final in making me pick and start playing guitar

REO Speedwagon when they used to rock before Cronin's drivel took over. What a pity Gary couldn't stay off the sauce. Tommy Bolin was recommended by Joe Walsh to take his spot in the James Gang pre Deep Purple. Stay away from drugs boys and girls. @@joehansonguitar you are right... One should have a list of your already presented players. I love Saga and Ian! Looking foreward to seeing that! Impelitteri is phenomenal! He is on Yngwie level, I think he is a bit older than Yngwie and was on a ridiculous level on his 1st record. He must have developed this style by his own. Same for Ian Crichton. He played fast neo-classical shred in 1977! Maybe the most underrated player ever. I must say I like your channel, you have nearly the same opinions like myself. Always founded in musical argumentation that can be objectifyed.
Great series, Thank You. But What. Not known or underrated: Terry Kath, Alvin Lee, Johnny Winter??? Gary Moore I understand, being Irish, but the others????? Maybe I'm that old. On the other hand don't know ANY of the country players, since that's mostly an American thing.

Wow great piece with Morse dueling one of the legendary rock keyboard players the late Jon Lord . Jimi Hendrix said Terry Kath was better than him that's high praise right there. Sadly lost both of them way too soon
90% of what I heard here could be played by most other modern guitarists - playing an exotic scale over a set of weird chord changes in a bizzare time signature at 160BPM does not make somebody a brilliant player...and no, I am NOT a Dead Slow Blues purist (that can be just as boring if not more). Ya gotta serve the song, and make the instrument sound like it's talking to you.. Prime example here is Kath (plus Richrath and 1 or 2 others). Both are just as fast as anybody, but they use that to finish off or start a set of phrases.
I try to add a mix of styles to each episode. While I was into the faster technical stuff for many years, I'd rather listen to Kath, Rory, Marino and even Gibbons over the shred stuff.
Just a little curious, has anyone ever heard of Nita Strauss ? I was listening to some tunes while working and it hit me just how good she is. From Alice Cooper, to her own stuff, she can kick it out.
I don't know if he put Glen Campbell on any of his lists or not, but Campbell could flat out play. He wasn't just a singer who used the guitar to accompany himself.

Yeah, Chris is in a different category than Megadeth's stuff. I dug his work with them too though
@@joehansonguitar I honestly never heard any MD with Chris that I'm aware of. I was watching a NAM video of Chris and I'd never heard of him before that. I was blown away by his style. Very unique
IMHO, Terry was the top of this list. So underrated
Since this is a multi-part series, I wasn't thinking that this was a "top 10" list as it's ongoing each week. All these guys IMO are phenomenal!!
These are really good lists man. I would like to add Barry Bailey from Atlanta Rhythm Section.
The live version of 'So Into You' off the album 'Are You Ready' has some awesome note choices. His style is awesome.
Awesome man! I’ve got him on the list now! 😎
@@joehansonguitar rock on brother 🤘
Gary Richrath...so tasteful and a great picker. I think younger folks think of the ballads REO put out, but "Roll With the Changes" was a fierce song (in a parade of them).
Terry Kath, well Jimi Hendrix admired him and he played with one of the greatest musical ensembles ever, but still rose to the top as "cream of the crop". Everyone should watch Chicago live from Tanglewood.
I agree, those cats had the feel and sound that I love. Thanks for commenting!
I don't know if you have mentioned him but I think Doyle Bramhall ii should be there.
Excellent, I haven’t featured him yet
Still a few omissions… by the way, surprised you went with the later Morse material, I would’ve assumed his Dixie Dregs material would be more iconic and showcasing his amazing skills as a player and composer.
Love the Dregs, also loved the phrases he plays in these solos!!
Foghat's Rod Price, Brian Bassett
I’ve got them on my long list for episodes!
Rick Wakeman is a huge fan of Mick Ronson's orchestration and bearing in mind how good Rick Wakeman is that is praise indeed.
Nice!
Between 1975 and 1979 I was a 12-15 year old and my biggest guitar influences were Rik Emmett and Ace Frehley then in 1980 my cousin took me to a REO Speedwagon concert and Gary Richrath blew me away and was the final in making me pick and start playing guitar
What a cool story bro!! Thanks for sharing 🎸🔥🤘🏻✌🏻
Great list as always. I wasn't aware of some of these. Love this channel

Awesome!!
Terry Kath, monster player but it was always about the song first with Chicago with the focus being on the horns. How freaking sick was that call and response between Steve Morse and the late great Jon Lord?
This song Gary Richraft is flying turkey trot live
🎸🔥
Ian Crichton of Saga
Rik Emmet of Triumph
Uli Jon Roth
Shawn Lane
Steve Lynch
George Lynch
Jeff Watson
Tony MacAlpine
Michael Romeo
Vinnie Moore
Mark Reale
Jason Becker
Chris Impelitteri
Jason Becker for sure!!!
Rik is just a flat out an awesome guitarist.
Steve Stevens
Buck (Donald Roeser) Dharma
Warren DeMartini
Jake E. Lee
The boys of Shadow Galery
Hank Sherman and Michael Denner
Michael Lee Firkins
Reb Beach
Satchel
Crichton and Impellitteri are in next week’s episode but Rik and Uli were in episode 3. The others will be later.

Didnt care for Chicago but Terry Kath kicked ass as a musician.
Chicago is at times hit or miss for me but like you said, Terry was amazing
Great series, Thank You.
But What. Not known or underrated: Terry Kath, Alvin Lee, Johnny Winter??? Gary Moore I understand, being Irish, but the others????? Maybe I'm that old.
On the other hand don't know ANY of the country players, since that's mostly an American thing.
Thanks for your comment. Originally this started out as a series for my students to get a clue on players other than Dime and Hammett. Was really just trying to keep these names alive for the younger crowd to discover. ✌🏻
My boyfriend and I watched all of your videos yesterday and while we agreed on some of the ones that were mentioned, I came up with a few that either weren't on your lists or that I think no one else has suggested:
Peter Frampton (and yes, he definitely deserves to be in the RRHOF)
Tom Scholz
Jeff Lynne
John Wetton
Nils Lofgren
Eric Johnson
Tommy Shaw
Lenny Kravitz
Nuno Bettencourt
There's one or two others but I can't remember their names right now. Plus if you use any of these, it will jog my mind to remember others!😂
I was going to also mention Peter Frampton and Tom Scholz. John Wetton is a bass player!
@@aschule5684 thanks for the info. Some of the ones I said I got mixed up and John Wetton definitely was one of those. That's what happens when you're tired and trying to come up with names 🤣
@@gloriawalters1988 hi Gloria, no apologies necessary, I hated to leave that comment and correct you. I never know how someone is going to take such a thing and some people get upset thinking your trying to be a know it all and thank you for not being one of those. John Wetton was an incredible musician though it was nice to see him mentioned all of your mentions were good ones I thought he did Eric Johnson already I guess not take care 🙂👍
@@aschule5684 no worries! Hope you have a good week!
@@gloriawalters1988 thank you, the same to you and yours 👍
One guy that gets forgotten alot that came in with guys like Steve Vai,Dwezel Zappa and Malmstien was Tony McAlpine. 6:52
Tony is phenomenal not only on guitar player but piano as well. He’s on the list for a future episode
Ya know nobody ever thinks about the guy I'm about to mention. I don't recall seeing any videos of him playing and electric or acoustic but could tear a banjo up. From what I understand an accomplished player at that. Dunno how he would fit in any of these categories but Steve Martin, is a helluva player.
Oh yeah!!! He’s a great player! Thanks for the suggestion!!
Tommy Bolin is the GOAT
Definitely
Can i offer a couple more canidates for an upcoming list? Randy Bachman from BTO and Guess Who and any of the dudes in April Wine there were 3 i think, Weeping Widow has some sick lead guitar/vocal harmonies.
Ah yes! Randy is in next weeks episode
Alan Shacklock from Babe Ruth
Nice!!
My favorite on this list: Steve Morse and Ty Tabor.
Killer players!! 🎸
Might I recommend the following: Harvey Mandell, Richard Williams of Kansas & Trevor Rabin?
Great choices!
Wow! Harvey Mandel was the first concert I saw. Probably 1972 or 3. Pretty good, as I recall.
I havent seen Steve Lukather appear on any of your lists considering the number of artists and albums he has featured on
Episode 4!
ua-cam.com/video/N0iRBx30S5o/v-deo.htmlsi=ylrN_onc0UF4Wydf
Derry Grehan, Honeymoon Suite
Thanks for the suggestion!
Why would Steve Morse be on a list like this. The guy is a virtuoso.
Find me 5 players younger than us that know his name…
✌️😁👍 Rock on.
Thanks!
I'm surprised Ian Thornley and Dan Huff haven't been mentioned yet lol
They’re on my list!
@@joehansonguitar Sweet hope to see them on the next one! Especially Ian!
Also, Gary Richrath had some of the best Les Paul tones on earth . :)
Holy cow yes he did!
terry was also a really great singer, Hendrix said " HE'S IS A BETTER GUITARIST THAN I AM"...
Terry was very unique with his approach to playing. He had the fire
Most, if not all of these axemen, should be just as obvious as the obvious ones Hendrix, Page, Townsend, Clark and Campbell. Only a few, like Keaggy, are in a class by themselves. Justin Wayward is at least one great that doesn't get the love as a guitarist, and there are others, but the list is getting shorter, thanks to you man. Love and respect, from anothrr songwriter and musician.
Bro, you’re like my favorite viewer! You give great feedback and if I miss something you can call me out on it! ✌🏻🙏🏻
@joehansonguitar likewise, as in Wayward instead of Hayward. You got it going on my man, and I'm happy that my participation and encouragement please you. You are a friend in my book.
i wish you would say what band they are associated with.
Great suggestion. I was actually just thinking about that today as well as add any historical facts.✌🏻
Thanks for Robin Trower. I forgot about him. Don’t forget Canned Heat , Billy Sqiur, Joan Jet! How about Joanne Jett for woman?
Did u listen to Henry Gross (plug me into something yet.Tip, put on u tube Live Southern band from Henry Gross. It will take u 5 minutes, and u will see
Ru gonna do Hot Tuna, Uriah Heep, and UFO????
And Ritchie Blackmore
Look up Blue Ridge Rangers with Fogerty. Listen to Working on a building
Ritchie Blackmore
Listen to Man on the silver mountain. (Ritchie Blackmore- Rainbow
I really like Gary Richrath very underated
100%!!!
Wow great piece with Morse dueling one of the legendary rock keyboard players the late Jon Lord . Jimi Hendrix said Terry Kath was better than him that's high praise right there. Sadly lost both of them way too soon
Thanks for your comment and I agree 100%!
Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush
Episode 3!

Cousin Kenny gets some love!!! Terry Kath was a monster, terrible shame.
Definitely a shame about Terry. What a huge loss
How about Ritchie Blackmore???
Also ru gonna do Billy squires guitars. And also Rick derringer
Yes!!
Absolutely!
Terry is the King of all underated guitarists!
Absolutely
Just a little curious, has anyone ever heard of Nita Strauss ? I was listening to some tunes while working and it hit me just how good she is. From Alice Cooper, to her own stuff, she can kick it out.
Yeah she’s killer! She’s going to be in an upcoming episode!
Mick Roson definitely belongs on this list, but I gotta believe you could have located a much better sample of his talents!! 😞😞
I really dig that piece!
What has become of Jerry Stevenson from B# sharp?
Not sure but I’m looking into it
wht! no al di meola or robert fripp?!?!
Robert Fripp! Do you watch Toyah & Robert’s Sunday brunch? Since the plandemic they do a song from other artists and they’re very entertaining. ☮️
They’re on my list! 🤘🏻🎸🔥
Andy La Rocque!!
🎸🔥monster!
I don't know if he put Glen Campbell on any of his lists or not, but Campbell could flat out play. He wasn't just a singer who used the guitar to accompany himself.
Yes sir he was I. This episode:

I know I'm a broken Record, But Jimmy Herring! Aquarium Rescue Unit. Criminally Overlooked. If you have not heard him, your welcome! Lol
Yeah man, I’m familiar with them. Problem is trying to remember all these names I’ve listened to over the last 36 years of being a guitar player lol
Thanks for the suggestion!!
Check out Alex Masi. Geoff Tyson from T-Ride is awesome too.
Not familiar with Tyson but Masi goes way back to when I started playing in the 80’s
john sykes bloody legend..one of the greatest guitar sounds ever.
Such a great tone!
