This helped so much for my Solo at Class D. I completed mine today and must say that you gave a whole lot of insight and it helped me boost my confidence on radio comms. Thank you :)
Super video!! So calm and lots of explanations. I'm not a pilot but its fun to pull up a landing chart and follow along with your movements and understanding your "Turning right to go into a left down wind. So cool to look at the Flight sectional and see Ocala airport and then Google Earth and see run way 36! Its like a detective game. I'll never fly because I'm no where near a flight school, but I can dream of it. Don't stop filming and giving us lessons. I wonder what will be going through my mind when in 2 months I fly SYR to SRQ!
Thanks -- I have been doing my landing practice in D (KAFW) the last few lessons. Your videos help a lot. a week ago, I would just lock up in my mind. Now I feel at home. also practicing my calls when driving around in my car has been very helpful.
I appreciate the value of cold calling. Here in SOCAL, there is so much traffic that we normally give the controller all the info in first call to reduce radio chatter. I can see the value at a sleepy field. Gives the controller time to put down his coffee 😀
Agreed. I think it all depends on what's customary for the location. I was trained to give full info on first call. I've heard Center controllers scold pilots who cold called. So I think it's best to follow convention for your area.
Great video! I went through Private Pilot ground school a long time ago but because of videos like these I have no hesitation to recommend MzeroA for PPL ground school prep. I fly out of KFMN and it's a Class D airport. It's pretty easy once you know what is expected and what's coming. There's enough freighter, medical, and corporate traffic to keep things interesting but not at all difficult.
Thx Jason, great video! Do have a nit to pick though. Believe the [26] on the chart refers is MSL, not AGL. This makes sense due to the 2,500ft AGL hight of class D plus the 100ft MSL elevation of the airport...
I love your instruction videos. And it's even better because there FREE.NOTHING is free in aviation.I am a private pilot in need of a BFR.Just need money and a 3rd class medical.
Hi Jason! Current Groundschool pilot pre FAA exam. Taking that next month hopefully. So had a few questions about the free trial. Is it going to be available for at least a year if so could I use it for my instrument? Also if you have any links I could use to study for the FAA that would be awesome!
The origin of this is from AIM 4-2-3 "Initial Contact" that recommends using your "full aircraft identification" Using Skyhawk at a tower like Ocala is super helpful for the controllers because at that particular facility they don't have radar. So calling up N23MZ is 10 miles west doesn't help them as they don't know how fast I am. Some people just call up "Cessna 23MZ" which helps some but am I a Cessna 150 or a 206? Big difference in groundspeed.
Hi Kristof! Radios can indeed be tricky and ATC may issue an instruction that you are unfamiliar with. If that is the case, ask them for clarification. They are people and want to help too! :) Thanks for watching and fly safe!
At 14:30 you should show a map of what you are doing to join downwind. I get it because I have ForeFlight but without it I’d need a paper and pen.

Passed my checkride 23 June. Thanks MzeroA -Takeo.
flew two class Delta airports, KHWD and KPAO today.
CONGRATS!!!!!!

Yes he misspoke there. Good video otherwise.
Hi,Jason.A better view from cockpit, runway and yoke both insight.Great job!
As I said you are shorter on UA-cam than in person. Great meeting you at KOSH this year.
MzeroA thanks helps a lot
No problem!
Great Video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!

Thanks so much. Learnt a lot! @MzeroA
Dashed altitude square is in MSL, isn’t it?? I believe you may have said AGL
Yes and yes
Great video lesson sir. Thank you!
Thank you for the info
Ocala looks like a nice place to learn to fly. Any pipistrels or cirruses there?
good info, but I understood that for a class D arrival you should make contact 15 miles out. AIM 4-3-2.
You're correct, however Class D is typically a 4 mile radius, this makes an 8 mile call more than enough.
What do I do if I do not get cleared to land?
Just flew to KOCF today at around 10:30am today , the Control tower was not too happy when i confirmed RWY 18.
Love the channel! You’ve helped me thru my ppl and ir. Wondering if we can get some commercial maneuvers?😊
It is possible to do online the theory part of an PPL ??

Why do you put the carb heat on before you land but not during your flight?
Reduced engine power during landing procedure.
A lot of thanks from (BKV)
Yes. I always make taxi calls at uncontrolled. I don't "clog up" the airwaves. It's a good habit, and it only makes good sense. Why would anyone not?
Lol literally watching this for a trip to New Bedford and was like…wait what? Haha
I missed your usual sign-off.
I know sorry!!!! Since this was a video for our online ground school and there are over 400 of them I don't say the tagline every video hahaha
Why do you say Skyhawk and not November?

All US planes are N numbers. So not really needed. Its assumed, plus if you tell the tower what you are flying, it makes their life easier.
MzeroA Flight Training I see, makes sense. Thank you.
Craig O'Brien normally in the US we drop the N as it is common to all registered aircraft so it is implied.
Also, half the time if I forget to say 'Skyhawk' and instead say Cessna or even November, their next communication is "say type", lol
It shouldnt be 3-152. It should be C-152. C is the 3rd letter of the alphabet so it still works.
My biggest fear is that they’re going to tell me something I will have no clue what to do
