Review: 2022 Honda Civic Si - Better Than Expected

Поділитися

  • Опубліковано 18 сер 2024
  • I spend a week with the 2022 Honda Civic Si and come away pleasantly surprised. On paper, the specs for the new Civic Si seem underwhelming compared to the last generation. But thankfully, the car feels much stronger than the numbers suggest and while it may not be the best sport compact value anymore, it still is a solid choice for those looking for 4-door fun under 30k. As-tested, this Civic Si price comes out to $28,710 including destination. Do you agree with the choices Honda made on the 2022 Civic Si? Thanks to Honda for providing this car to review.

    Matt Thank you for the fantastic review! I’ve owned my 22 Civic Si for almost two weeks now and I can tell you that your points are right on the money. The car definitely feels faster than 200HP and that is because they Dyno around 200whp. The motor just builds power all the way to redline. The handling of this car is amazing, it handles like is on rails even with the all season tires. The shifter is a throwback to the Honda’s of the past. This car is really an awesome value, a car that is so much fun and rewarding to drive every day.

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  2 роки тому +3

      I know it's frustrating, it sucks that most dealers are being crappy these days. The reason I don't mention it in the videos is twofold. First, because these videos will be watched well beyond these crazy times we're in, so dwelling on 2022 problems will make the video less relevant in 2025. Second, comparing MSRP is the only fair way to compare cars. Everyone will get a different deal depending on a variety of factors and those dealer prices aren't the fault of the manufacturer either. So I judge and compare cars based on those MSRP prices. It's up to the buyer to decide what is the best deal for them given their circumstances. My advice is to scour the country for an MSRP dealer and make it a road trip if you're up for the work and time that's required. Otherwise, I recommend anyone that can wait, should wait until things calm down. Nobody is getting a good deal right now on anything.

    Another great video review, Matt. One thing to point out for current times. Shopping both this car and an Elantra N will both likely cost you $2k-$3k over MSRP at the moment and dealers will be hard pressed to get them. It’s a sad time to be an enthusiast, as you could buy the last generation Si for around $22k-$23k discounted when new and justifying paying $8k more for the new model after markup is a hard pill to swallow. Such are the times, but maybe will eventually see things return to a more consumer friendly market in terms of supply and demand. 🤞🏼

      I always recommend people travel to get the best deal. I bought 3 of my last 4 cars out of state, and that was before the pandemic. There are decent dealers out there still not doing markups, they just take extra work to find and require a road trip home. But to me that just adds to the fun. But clearly, anyone that doesn't need to buy a car right now should wait until things get back to normal for a better deal.

    "Better than expected" is such an appropriate heading for this car. After the 10th gen there was no telling what we'd get. I'll admit I didn't have high expectations. This car is flat out impressive though. It brings quite a bit of value and practicality to the table for what it costs. It's not exactly slow either. See, that's one thing I love about Honda's formula. They didn't have to breach into WRX/Elantra N level performance in order to make this car competitive. They re-engineered the driving experience in the areas that it mattered so you could feel a new level of performance in something with the same HP and torque it's always had. Seems like a great car so far.

    I like this car and it’s a very great medium, I’d get it over the N-Line and Forte GT. However, the Elantra N blows it away in terms of value. Under 30k, it’s a no brainer. But I’m ponying up for the N. With everything you get and the HP difference and overall fun, you can’t beat the N. Amazing review Matt!

      Too bad it's a Hyundai. Those cars are straight up POS. My wife owned a 2014 Elantra, my Mom and Mother in law both had Sonata's. We all had multiple issues with those cars. Hyundai does a good job at building a crap car and dressing it up as something nice. Don't be fooled. Honda's are built different. True quality.

I currently have a 10 gen Civic EX with 1.5T engine and CVT. I would like to get another SI. Miss the manual shifting. Not sure which way to go because my area Honda dealers are marking up the 2022 SI by $3k to $4k over msrp and the price for a used 10gen SI is also at or above msrp. My friend isn’t really a car guy, but I think an SI will help him be a car guy in some small way that he wasn’t before. The balance of amenities and engaging drive pretty much ensure it will make him a bit more of an enthusiast in the long run.

    • @francostrong202

      Bc they want you to believe they did a whole bunch of chassis tuning and wizardy to make the car better when it's actually power that is doing the most work. Nissan did this with the GTR back in 2007 when it launched. They really advertised the hell out of the AWD system and chassis dynamics and then ran a really great time at the 'Ring. But they severely underrated its power as people later found out. Same with BMW. They underrated the new M3 bc they wanted people to believe it's a small/nimble like the original while putting down better lap times. But in reality the car is just bigger and more powerful than previous generations. Same with your ST. Those little things handle great. And Ford really played into how well they had tuned the chassis. But for a while the STs were spanking the BRZ/FRS twins on the track, even though the BRZ/FRS have similar power numbers, RWD, with an LSD (which should give them a super advantage). People were like: dafuq? When dyno-ed the ST was making like 20-30 extra HP...I think Honda is doing the same thing with this SI so people will buy into the "new" chassis tuning and the few parts they borrowed from the type R.

I will say I think horsepower isn't that important, 200 is kind of perfect, the weight of the car, the handling and the sound of the engine are all more important.
