2022 Honda Civic Si vs Toyota GR86 // DRAG & ROLL RACE
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 кві 2022
- The 2022 Toyota GR86 ($31,490 CAD starting, $27,700 USD starting) and the 2022 Honda Civic Si ($33,750 CAD starting, $27,300 USD starting) have lined up for a drag race at Willow Springs. Both are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, and have a similar starting price. In this battle of different powertrains, will the lighter and more powerful rear-drive GR86 be able to claim a naturally aspirated victory? Or will the superior torque in the turbocharged front-drive SI be enough to propel it off the line and claim the win? Things don’t always go as planned during an off-the-cuff drag race! We hope you enjoy the episode! SUBSCRIBE!

@@slappy4braps20 yeah lol. $30k is a lot. More than either of these cars are worth. Peoples willingness to finance vehicles has skyrocketed vehicle prices.

@@hxhabe5795 as you should... tbh the oem pistons/rings in k series engine burn oil if you don't break them in... HARD. mostly on the k20a2, if the owner didnt trash it off the rev limiter a few times during break in, they would burn oil every time at those high rpm's for the rest of the life of the engine. One day I want to understand why the hell that is, but it's absolutely real. Good luck with your si! Throw a bigger turbo on it after break in :)

Need a full comparison. Been waiting for this fwd vs rwd for years! Thanks for a drag at least
When i was car shopping, these were the two cars i wanted. And frankly, i could go either way.
If you want the best driving experience outside something like a Porsche Cayman GT4, get the GR86.
If you want a near 40 mpg sedan with more than enough Handling & Speed keep you entertained when the wife & kids aren't around, get the Civic Si.
P.S since everyone is mad in the comments, i reference the Cayman as i've gotten the chance to experience it in-person.
For sure, pretty much why I snagged the Si over the hachiroku
If the Civic still came in a coupe. I might’ve bought one but seeing as how I’m in my 20’s and love coupes, the GR seems like the way for me
@@omarawilson2853 same, though im not planning to buy one any soon, i really liked the civic coupes and the hatch like the ek series

Comparing the 86 to a Gt4 😁😂😂😁
Been waiting for this one 🤙🏽
Very entertaining to watch! Loved this comparison (even if we all know straight line speed isnt what either of these cars are about).
They are actually the 2 cars I'm cross shopping at the moment, I used to have a 14 Si and loved it. I was a little disappointed to hear that peak power on the new Si was even lower than my 9th gen Si, but all the glowing reviews about the shifter keep this car on my shortlist. On the other hand the GR86 sounds like such a special car, and since it'll likely be my last ICE car that I'll keep for an insanely long time itd be nice to have something little more special than a Civic. If I had the money Id probably dump it on the upcoming Type-R but thats a little too much of a stretch haha.
I’m 2 months into my 11th gen and put ~5,000 miles so far (college student so road trips) and I LOVE it. I get ~34mpg if I drive it like a normal person and ~30 if I drive it hard. It’s not fast but way faster than average traffic. I never really liked the look of older civics but I think this new one is really clean and the interior is very premium. It’s a blast to drive feels just like a miata with back seats and w/ the LSD it really pulls out of corners. Would recommebd
That new motor in the 86 is such a huge leap over the old one
Yeah, the last gen 86 was notorious for getting abused by even non-SI turbo Civics. Now they're actually sports car quick!
30 extra horse power 😆
@@flip90925 Dyno results seem to show around 50 extra horsepower
The old one was ok . Tuned on e85 with breathing mods easy 180kw
I want Toyota to put that 3 banger in the 86
I hope you guys don't change the intro for the track stuff, it's honestly pretty great.
I love your content and car knowledge, identifying the difference and sometimes why two cars truly aren’t on the same level/performance/use. Like these two. One shopping for an Si who wants a real rear seat and comfort, space would not purchase a 86. And one who just would want a coupe would purchase the 86 as it’s more sporty. Miata vs 86 is a better comparison. But none the less this was fun to see.
But what I give you credit and why I love your show… the banter between you too, corny jokes… knowledge and just fun all around. Keep it up guys. Love your stuff!!
My dilemma is that while I enjoy having a back seat for practicality, I also much prefer a RWD car. I prefer a naturally aspirated motor also. Manual transmission is a must for me. I am unsure which of these two cars would be more reliable to own? Other than a drag race, which one is more enjoyable as an everyday driver? And lastly, If I am willing to buy a turbo sedan, How about the new Elantra N ??
Thank you for doing this I have been looking for a video like this for a while
Thank you very much! Liked, subscribed and shared. My absolute favorite UA-cam channel by far.
Important that Willow Springs, CA is at about half a mile of altitude, so the Civic Si actually has a bit of an advantage, being a turbo. So at sea-level, the GR86 would do even better.
also the GR86 gets Michelin's and the Civic gets Goodyears....that's most certainly going to add to any performance difference.

A fun race to watch, but makes sense for the GR86 to win. The weight advantage is huge.
I have a tuned Fiesta ST and I freaking love it.
But I've been so tempted by the gr86 and the Veloster N lately...
I feel like it's difficult to say no to the extra power and sound of the N, but it's also difficult to say no to rear wheel drive and the looks of that gr86...
I had a Fiesta ST and tuned Focus ST. I was thinking the same with the GR 86 and N but, what do ya think about the Corrola GR?
@@gottagofest1610 I love it but it's going to be a limited production vehicle.

Guys, don’t miss on the opportunity of buying a naturally-aspirated, manual & RWD car. That’s a freaking awesome package that is very rare and going to be even more difficult to find, and a bargain at Civic Si’s prices. The Veloster is nice but nothing more than your usual, everyday little FWD turbo car, just like everything else and much less fun to live with and, especially, to drive fast.
@@Juvahh see everybody I talk to says it is an extremely fun car to drive, and its quick af.
The new gr86 premium is for second slower around Virginia International Raceway than the 2019 veloster n.
The other thing to remember is that the Hyundai comes with 3 times the warranty.
There's also the Practical aspect of if I buy the gr86, I'll probably have to keep my Fiesta also because I sometimes need the haul things, and yes there's a lot more space in the back of a Fiesta ST than the gr86.
If I get the N, theres 17k I can put down, because my six-year-old Fiesta is now worth 3 grand less than it was when I bought it new... insane.
But really I don't want to get rid of my Fiesta, it's such a fun car....
I just feel like I need to get something else before the government gets their EV wet dream.

Apparently, with the bigger Subaru engine it now has enough power to beat the Honda Civic Si.
