Totally agree that red apples taste better than Granny Smith! One of the reasons why Granny Smiths are used in pies are that they hold up better under longer bake times. It’s so you don’t get a soggy mess when cutting into a pie 🥧
For anyone wondering, in the southern hemisphere, Halloween/Samhain isn't actually until early May. When it's halloween/samhain in the northern hemisphere, it's Beltane in the southern hemisphere. (Basically just looked at the sabbat wheel, and see its opposite.)
I was just thinking that, heard her voice, checked her location just to be sure she was living there, and felt a bit weird because she should be in the peak of Spring season right now but doing autumn content to stay relevant with the season in the northern hemisphere. I mean "you do you, girl", totally fine, I was just like a little taken aback like "what?!", lol
Southern Hemisphere people are very very used to celebrating things like this 'out of season'. So, interestingly I've never seen it as the AUTUMN holiday. Just the spooky holiday. The choice is to have fun with it in spring or ignore it entirely, so I'll have fun with it in spring 😊💛🎃👻
@@aeolia80 All Anglo cultures celebrate Halloween in October thanks to historical ties to the UK and globalisation/US media saturation. She's not "staying relevant" she's just being an Australian.
You have so much patience for all that fiddly baking. If you use just egg yolk for the egg wash it gives the pastry a richer flavour and more golden colour.
You’re one of the people that inspired my to start a channel. The quality of your content is amazing! Spooky season all the way 🎃 keep doing what you’re doing Christy!
I read ‘The Graveyard Book’ for the first time this month, because of your recommendation! I enjoyed it so much. 🧡 I read from the book and also listened to the audiobook, which is performed by Neil Gaiman himself. He has a rich and theatrical voice. I sometimes listened to it while sitting in the old, beautiful, graveyard in my town, which was pretty magical.
I'm Swiss. I like tart apple pies. My own techniques inherited from my gran is to put uncooked apples on the dough. But after ten minutes of cooking, we add a mix of egg, sugar, cream, and for spices cinnamon, four spices, or cardamom. Then, back in the oven until the dough is crunchy.
Your baking techniques are the ultimate way of never giving up ❤ i am proud of your work ethic 👌💕🥹 this is a beautiful video and I looooooove your hair color too~😍🥰👌💯
I'm just Kazakh boy which like reading books, and recently I read "The Graveyard Book" and it was wonderful. And today I watch this video and enjoying about how you celebrate Halloween! Thank you for this video and good luck🥰
I enjoyed this sooooo much. As someone who never experienced a true autumn or Halloween (I'm from India especially the southern part) I could totally understand how you feel.
So beautifully autumnal! The baking looked absolutely amazing. I remember last year - you topped it this year! Must read the graveyard book. Happy Halloween 🎃🦇
Those pastries look so cute and nice! I would like to bake more often but when I do, I usually just make something quick and easy and wouldn't bother to decorate them probably haha :D
As someone who lives in an area where apples are grown, the type of apple makes a huge difference in taste and texture. In my opinion, gala and honeycrisp apples are the best because they are sweet and crispy, and golden delicious and red delicious are the worst cause they soft and mealy. Green apples are sour, so they’re often covered in caramel and eaten in the fall.
Seeing you read and listen to The Graveyard Book makes me so happy because I just remember how delightful it was to have read it, or rather, listened to it. I just listened to it this September so not too long ago. Those were some really fun looking baked goods. I would love to try making all of them. Glad you had a lot of fun making them!
Typically when I make apple pies and such, I really only use one or two granny Smith apples and then use mostly sweeter apples. I find that makes it taste really nice and have a variety. I typically use whatever apples I have around to eat (Often gala) but I like using Jonathan or braeburn apples as they hold together a bit better than gala when cooked. But yeah... Still quite sweet! And you've now inspired me to make apple crisp. Can't be bothered with pastry today!
I figure us in the Southern Hemisphere are luckier, because we get to have Autumn in the first half of the year, and relive it with Halloween in the second half! 💛🌙🌟✨
We love the spooky season! And you can’t go wrong with Neil Gaiman. The Graveyard Book and Coraline are perfect for the vibe, but I would also include his novel “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” it’s one of my all time faves and has that spooky, whimsical style I love him for.
Amazing video! I completely agree with you on apples! I only use red/sweet apples for everything (even caramel apples). I hate green apples. Everything you made turned out so cute! 💗
Everything looks delicious. Thank you for the link to the recipes since I think I want to try them out. I'm a fan of Halloween as well and also watch the Nightmare Before Christmas during the Halloween season 💀👋🏽
spooky season!! i adore this time of year and i can’t wait to dive into this vid! i’m sending you all of western pennsylvania’s autumnal weather :) EDIT: i have celiac and relate with the struggle of gluten free baking SO much
awwh I wish we had that weather hahah It's very difficult to navigate gluten free baking generally! But god, being celiac must be a whole other kettle of fish--you poor thing. It must be so frustrating trying to find decent options particularly when eating at restaurants 💛

Oh my gosh! I don't know if it's Quebec thing, but here, we bake pretty much exclusively with red apples! I don't really like apples (especially Granny Smiths) in general, but I do love me a good baked apple treat.
Maybe it's an Australian thing? I'm not sure! From what I understand, we usually use granny smith apples to bake apple pie which (I've learned bc I googled it just now haha) are actually Australian apples!
The reason people use green apples is red apples don’t have the right flavour punch and are too soft to hold up to the temperatures and length of time a pie takes to cook
I didn't know that people were making apple pie with green apple... I always made them with red ones. Green ones were only for lemonade hahahah But you made me wonder about how they taste with green ones. wow.
Apple pie is my favourite. My family makes pies with our own apples, both red and green, and usually a mix of different kinds of apples--and yes, the red ones make AMAZING pies. Edit: "macabre" is pronounced "muh-KAAB".

IMO, pie fillings MUST be tart(like I usually have to add lemon), and store bought pies are almost always too sweet for me. 😅 But glad sweet apples exist for those who do enjoy them, agree to disagree!
I love your videos and this is one is really great. Unfortunately I couldn’t enjoy it on Sunday because in exact that moment i started to watch you vlog my tea poured over my brandnew gaming Laptop 😭 So don’t worry… you’re not the only clumsy person. There even worse… Now i am hoping that the fluids in the mainboard didn’t further damage to the system… Just today I could get myself to force to watch your beautiful vlog. I’m still in shock…
see that's what I thought.... hahah but I didn't know if maybe it was drawing from latin, not french, and that made the pronunciation different? no idea. Thank you for validating me though haha

Your spooky season treats are amazing! So cute! Also, love him, but your brain is right and Neil is definitely wrong, his pronunciation is neither the correct French nor English nor American pronunciation so I'm not sure where he got it from, maybe a mispronunciation in a song or some other audio medium of art?
