I love this and love Neil Gaiman. He is such a talented author and creator. He actually narrates some of his books himself and is just perfect! 🖤

I'm catching up on my To Watch list, so this is a very late comment, but I'm currently in quarantine and your vlog has helped lift my gloomy mood by keeping me company and making me feel less alone, so thank you for that, Christy

I'm currently reading the ocean at the end of the lane, I'm about a bit more than halfway through and loving it so far. It is a speedy read and this copy has a lot of illustrations by Elise Hurst which makes it incredibly beautiful. Thanks for heads up about the ending, I'll be prepared😄

I always save your vlogs for late-ish at night, when I can cosy up and know I won't be interrupted. I love that autumnal top you were wearing. I've only read a couple of Neil Gaiman books so far - Neverwhere and The Ocean at the end of the Lane, and seen a few films. I think I enjoyed Neverwhere more of those two. I wonder if I would have enjoyed Ocean more when I was younger. I admit the wormhole in the foot thing creeped me out, like something that would show up in a weird dream.
I'm so burnt out as well. Burnt out from being a full time patient for 7 years, a slew of rare diseases and several appointments every week still. I had a traumatic hospital admission recently and going through a formal complaints process which is just adding to the burn-out. Book-world is my comfort place. I just want to read books, read about books, watch booktube, write, and stare at the trees. Thank you for making such comforting content and being one of my all-time favourite booktubers

Hy Christy, I stumbled upon your channel recently and absolutely love your content! Keep it up!
I don't know why, but I don't seem to click with Neil Gaiman's books as much as I had hoped to. I DNF-ed Good Omens and now I have 2 chapters left from the Graveyard Book but so far I didn't love it. I liked the beginning and the story with the witch but I didn't care much for the rest.
I still have the Ocean at the End of the Lane and American Gods on my TBR, and hopefully I will like them more.

I read The Ocean at the end of the lane lately and it is my favorite book so far this year. It went round the family and even my Dad, who only recently got into reading novels, loved it. Funny enough we had a chat about who the grandmother really is and both my sister and my Dad came up with the same theory of which I hadn‘t even thought….

There are many people in this world that had very bad and tragic things happening to them and therefore don’t know what to do with their lives going forward. They find it hard to find a new purpose or direction. This book is a good way to psychology understand people or at least try and put ourselves in their shoes mentally. Mental health is still such a “new thing” and should be regarded as normal . It’s very important for us to have empathy with each other and not judge people by their moods or behaviour but think about what they might be going through or have gone through . That would make the world a much better place . Have a happy October everyone 🍁🎃🍁🍃🦇🖤🍁🎃🍁🍃🦇🖤🍁

I've read a few Neil Gaiman books (Coraline, Neverwhere, The Ocean...) but they were all so-so to me (3 stars). Surprisingly, my favorite book from him is Norse Mythology! The audiobook is fantastic! I do have American Gods in my shelves and it will maybe be the last Gaiman I read if I don't like it.

Any company in the business of selling couches should create ads featuring booktubers reading for an hour straight while sitting on said couches and the various positions that are assumed. I'd totally get whatever couch looked the most comfy for readthons. ^J^

100% agree with you! American Gods is my least favorite of NG's books that I've read. His whimsical, fairytale-ish books like Stardust, Neverwhere and Ocean at the End of the Lane are my favorites. Coincidentally, I just happen to be listening to the audiobook of The Graveyard Book now as well. I'm so glad I got the version narrated by NG.

The Graveyard Book and The Ocean at the End of the Lane are among favorite fantasy and horror stories by Gaiman. Coraline is cool too but I much prefer The Graveyard Book a lot more during the summer of fall season. American Gods was okay to me. Not much of a fan of it so didn’t get the hype over it. Anansi Boys is a much better story IMO. I LOVE that one. Neverwhere is also a good one too. I have yet to read his spooky short story books.

I've had "The Graveyard Book" on my shelf since seeing it in your videos, but I haven't actually gotten to reading it. This is the reminder I needed to actually start it! 🎃
Speaking of short stories, you may like Shinichi Hoshi's (星新一) "short-short" stories. My mom has loved his stories ever since she first read them in her textbook for school, and gave me her collection. They're sci-fi/strange things happening in daily life, and they're VERY quick reads. Unfortunately I've never read them in English, but I assume they are just as good!

Always interesting to see how different people get completely different things out of the same book! Really didn’t like Ocean at the End of Lane! Really, really, REALLY! 😆🤦🏻‍♀️ Probably my least favourite all of all his books! Didn’t hate all of it…but when I finished it I was grateful for it being over and glad to move on! 😂The Graveyard Book though…god I love that book! That and Neverwhere will always be my top two…closely followed by Anasi Boys! ❤️❤️

The apotheosis of The Graveyard Book before the ending seemed sloppy to me. Some important characters were lost without much of a plot connected to the protagonist.
I enjoyed the first half of the book much more immensely.

  • @irenegrijalvotarres

Ah, I'm the same about his books. TOATEOTL is definitely my favourite, and American Gods my least favourite. It's odd, beause I truly enjoy his horror short stories, but AG just wasn't my cup of tea.
I'm currently making my way through Sandman, which is the only thing of his I haven't read yet, and it's closer to AG than any of the others, but I'm liking it better.

It’s very confusing when you say the word amount instead of pages, my mind doesn’t want to do the math everytime a book is mentioned ):

    • @circleofleaves2676
      @circleofleaves2676 3 роки тому

I think because the text differs in font type, size, spacing, margins, page breaks, blanks etc, that number count is more accurate than page count. I agree it's sometimes hard to get my head around though as I generally think of books in page count.
