Never in a million years would I have imagined, as teen listening to those massive evil sounding slabs of doom that were the 70s Sabbath albums, that all four original members would turn out to be such soft spoken, rather humble gentlemen. Yes even Ozzy in his own way comes across as a gentleman. They certainly scared the crap out of our parents though!
I kneel before my hero...Bill Ward is the reason I play drums. I started playing 7/8/78 Thank God I finally seen him live a few years ago. Such a nice guy!
bil ward is a great drummer who deserves more credit due to him than he has ever recieved! i love black sabbath and as a heavy metal musicianmyself, black sabbath is one of the biggest influences on my life and on my music. i am still a long haired, hard partying, head-banging heavy metal musician after all these years. i'm still a child of the 1970's........and i always will be! long live black sabbath! i'm still listening to them on my phonograph!
bill ward is definetly one of the all-time greatest drummers of all-time he is thunderous and a very versatile drummer which is very rare- a bandmates dream to work with. hail the mighty bill ward
Bill ward is such an amazing drummer hes one of my biggest influences (the other being John Bonham) i just love his style so much he like plays drums like a semi lead insturment playing with the guitar and bass spot on and its just perfect on songs like War pigs, Hand of doom and Nib etc hes so underated
He seems like such a decent human being, I admire him and his humility a great deal, he seems so in touch with his own history and legacy, Good on ya, BilI.
It's good to see some Sabbath rare material slowly but surely coming out. The new Paranoid issue is pretty damn cool. Even though I'd like to hear an uncut tape of Iommi riffs! haha. Bill seems like a great guy.
Bill has always been very frank about his limitations as a drummer and a musician, but has always made up for shortcomings of technique with enthusiasm and creativity (check out his solo albums for a taste of his versatility away from the kit, too). In terms of Sabbath itself, as much as I love Bill, Cozy Powell was, hands down, the most talented drummer ever to play for Black Sabbath.
I think there is no better than Bill Ward its all relative to taste , I am an ardent Sabbath Fan ....I am interested in all things unearthed about Sabbath , and I am going to return the favor in quantims.
Keith Moon is another great example of a drummer who wasn't a technically sound drummer. He had timing issues up the wazoo and was mostly all arms and legs behind his kit, but he had so much heart he made up for whatever his shortcomings as a musician ever were. Point is, if we wanted drum virtuosoity, we'd be talking about Buddy Rich and Joe Marello, not John Bonham, Keith Moon and Bill Ward.
I'm glad that Bill Ward mentioned the "iffy" quad re-release. It's terrible. The Sabotage album cover story is nice too. How in the world do you walk around without pants in public.
Bonham was a more technically sound drummer than Bill Ward will ever be. That being said, Bill Ward could always find a feel for the song and give it the extra oomph it needed. So while he isn't a "musician's musician", there's a lot to be said for his style and overall contribution to Sabbath.
Hello Friends, This is Ronnie Ciago Drummer/Percussionist from the Bill Ward Band. I'm about to teach Percussion & Drum Set live on line via Skype and I'm also developing a Percussion & Drum Set on-line lesson course as well. This means you can take private lessons from me in you own home.
The thing I get a kick out of is when people compare drummers. In all logcal sense....you can't. Even if you took two drummers and had them play the same thing it would come out different.... THAT being said....Bill has always been a raw drummer. That meaning raw in an animalistic sense in his playing. Bonham was a LOT more blues based...even jazz oriented. Is one better than the other? No....just different styles
I disagree. Bonham was a more technically proficient drummer than Ward. Bill is more of a basher than Bonham was. Does that make him a bad drummer? No. Your evaluation of Bill is skewed by an anti-Zep bias. I think Zep was overratred, too, but Bonham could play rings around Ward. Even so, Bill could always find a groove and kick the song into overdrive. Some technically sound drumemrs have no heart, some great drummers aren't technically great. It tends to wash out in the end.
@6ace6frehley6 Are you out of your mind? No way in hell was Bill Ward the superior to John Bonham! Bill Ward is a legend, but next to Bonzo, good golly. Just watch Bonham's "Moby Dick" solo at London's Royal Albert Hall from January 1970.

Bill Ward is absolutely one of the best human beings! I love that man!
I kneel before my hero...Bill Ward is the reason I play drums. I started playing 7/8/78 Thank God I finally seen him live a few years ago. Such a nice guy!

Such a soft spoken man for someone who destroyed the drums in his day.
I fucking love his drumming style its so infectious. Absolutely lethal drummer.
As humble as he is magnificent.
Bill Ward is such a humble guy!!

Would Bill write a book next?
Bill is the greatest* I play the drums because of this man

bill ward you kick ass \m/
Great stuff.
LIVING FUCKING LEGEND
bill ward is fucking awesome!!!!!!!!
How awesome is Bill Ward?
It's crazy to think that Bill Ward is actually a fan of In Flames, and even more surprisingly, Dimmu Borgir.
black sabbath, the old gods, my mom listened to them when she was young and iam listening to them now :D haha
Most influential drummer ever
Its True what Bill says about how many bands have sabbath in them i dont know one heavy metal/Metal band that isnt inspire by black sabbath.
I'm glad that Bill Ward mentioned the "iffy" quad re-release. It's terrible. The Sabotage album cover story is nice too. How in the world do you walk around without pants in public.
This was a good interview. What is the (non-Black Sabbath) song at the intro?
I agree.
Bonham was a more technically sound drummer than Bill Ward will ever be. That being said, Bill Ward could always find a feel for the song and give it the extra oomph it needed. So while he isn't a "musician's musician", there's a lot to be said for his style and overall contribution to Sabbath.
@celticsarebest They did release remasters of those 5 albums (with no bonus material) at the same time the 3 deluxe editions were released.
I Agree with you he is not the best, but his beats are hard and it turns Sabbath's music stronger and for me he is perfect for the band.
true
Can someone write down what does Bill say between 9:48 to 10:37? Pleeease :)
intro song???? whoever tells me gets the biggest internet high five ever
Why don't Thay re-release vol 4 and the others?
I hope Thay re-release all the other 5 sabbath CDs
@Ryanyarb24 At least all of the good ones.

How did he survive Hep C? its deadly !
@HL2Trailers1
dio, butler, vinnie, and iommi are heaven and hell. ozbourne, ward, butler and Iommi are black sabbath.
The thing I get a kick out of is when people compare drummers. In all logcal sense....you can't. Even if you took two drummers and had them play the same thing it would come out different....

No Ward No Black Sabbath.
Bill Ward is the only Sabbath member who looks old.
Haha Dimmu Borgir :D

@jackzabbaththeband Hire a NEW Drummer
Ha ha ha my wife's trousers..

Digital downloads *yawn*
Ward himself admits Paranoid re-release is iffy. I like this band but this is a money grab. I wonder who's behind it?
Bill is a great guy. He lives near me in California and is really cool and a fine drummer...
