That’s correct. Butthurt officers trying to find a way to retaliate against someone that told them know. Running tags without probable cause is information abuse.
That guard really did a trumpist move sidling up to the trooper with the explanation about how HE had already 'laid down the law' to LIA.
They make it so clear that they didn't join to uphold anything; they joined to enjoy the action. It's common knowledge, so when are we going to start teaching The Bill of Rights until every citizen knows it and what it means by heart?

This is sad that just keeps happening whether it is a police officer or guard at a prison or a bunch of rent-a-cops every time a person gets a badge in some way, they think they are the ultimate Authority.
It's the wearing of an official uniform which gives them a self perceived authority and power over people.
Narcissistic people love wearing uniforms and absolutely hate their "authority" being questioned or disobeyed by those they consider to be a lower class of people, in other words, civilians.

They should be charged with impersonating police. Correctional officers do not have arrest or other police powers.

I live in malone and my brother used to be a CO there but the superintendent got a grudge against him because he got covid. I didnt expect these people to be that ignorant. Sad days.
For anyone new to this, the "your car nearby" "how'd you get here" "how you getting back" question is so they can either run your tags and get your ID that way or make up a reason to pull you over

The correction officer started filming him after saying that it was illegal.
"'Illegal"' "without permission from the head of the facility." Amazing how their policies end just past wherever you are standing and doing something they dont like.
Isn't it a crime to knowingly call the police for no reason. Shouldn't the corrections guys be at least fined for wasting the state troopers time and our money? It's a shame the school bully gets a badge so they can get away with being the adult bully.

That whole layout is online. ALL of these places are. And they always go through this song and dance. Simply because they want to arrest someone, or at the very least to assert their authority.

The best scene though was when he showed the prison policies to the trooper.😳🤭 So everyone can write their own policy for their own home (e.g. filming is not allowed on my property) and then enforce it outside the property 😳🤪. Which stupid people actually work in such important and security-relevant institutions? It doesn't take much brain power to imagine that this is simply not allowed. What does the prison do with the companies that distribute satellite imagery like Google Maps? Do they forbid them to distribute these pictures as well? These images show the entire complex in much more detail than it could be recorded from the street.

Giving your id to a CO is like giving it to a security guard, they have no way to check for wants and warrants and they have no training to verify the validity of your identification, the request for id is used to bully and intimidate.
They go on about "FREEDOM," but seem so angry & determined to trample that guy's rights!

I'm tough on police... but the Trooper did a good job. I hope he had a good talk with those correctional officers and told them to stop calling the police over this kinda shit. I think its necessary to compliment the police when they do the right thing.

Its sad that these Law Enforcement officers dont know the freakin Law or people's constitutional rights. My fellow Americans this is a problem that could easily be fixed with better training.

Correction officers and state marshal wants the journalist to show his own papers for his actions on public pathway going passed the state penitentiary.
There’s no crime that has been committed by the journalist.

The first step in a police investigation is to arrive on scene and OBSERVE. Seeing no criminal violation, the call can be coded as unfounded or the trooper can talk to the 911 caller and write a report based on their call for service but there is no need to stop the recording citizen at all if the trooper didn’t observe criminal activity.
So sick of anonymous callers and their baseless accusations taken as facts.
Say this to cops: I have not committed a crime; I am not now committing a crime; I have no intention of committing a crime. Therefore your investigation was complete before you got out of your car. If you need to file a report state: There was no crime and no suspicious activity.

why? Technically its not against the law to ask for ID even when the other doesnt want to show it. Its also not against the law to hold an opinion that turns out to be wrong like the one who had a problem filming there.

actually qualified immunity almost never applies to 1st amendment activities as qualified immunity doesnt cover violations of clearly established rights
It is NOT the job if an officer to protect and serve. The Supreme Court has stated clearly that police have no responsibility for my safety, only the law and constitution

Notice that the posted sign says "except in accordance with New Yorkers right to monitor Act". This act clearly states that citizens have the right to record any law enforcement officer employed by the state, free of harassment. Technically, while standing on their property and filming the side of the building *might* actually be illegal, the second they send out a corrections officer to chase you off, you have the right to film that officer, without leaving, as filming that officer is an *exception* to the prohibition of filming on their property. Legally speaking, the best they can do is come out, ask you to leave, and walk away, and you don't have to actually leave or move until that officer is back inside the building, as you have the right to film the officer walking away.
The auditor was such a calm speaking person I don’t see anybody should ever get upset with him the way he was speaking.
