    Really cool options for turtles. Looking to catch some and needed some ideas. Awesome.

    I dont know if you've ever heard of J clips but we use them all the time for making wire rabbit cages. It would make your cage building so much easier and they're 100x more secure than zip ties, their cheaper too.

      Now I have to get on making a few of these traps after watching huntfishs turtle trapping video...I see you commented on it...Did you get a chance to get out at all bro?

      +Heith Gagnon I did at the beginning of the season. Caught two small ones that were not legal to keep...I've updated the entrance and eliminated the swinging door. I haven't had a chance to try out the new version yet. I'll let you know when I do! I think jugging is definitely the easier method from my experience but I really prefer the trap if I can get it to produce. Good luck Gonzo!

    If your having trouble with the door you can use netting with a hole in the center that is held closed with a bungee chord. If you come the netting in to the middle of the trap ( like the entrance to a minnow trap) the turtle will climb up the netting. The entrance hole should be just big enough for if to fit it's head through it will then push through the bungee and into the trap it cannot get back through as there is nothing from the inside to lead it toward the hole. Big turtles will rip up those wire doors. Good luck with the trapping.

      Thanks for the tip. I have considered the netting but haven't tried it yet! Maybe I'll get around to it one of these days.

      My dad used to buy basketball goal nets. He'd buy em on clearance at the end of the seaon.
      If you use the net make the other end a trap door to make getting them out easier. And don't forget to add a plastic jug or 2 so they don't drown.

    Nice design! I haven't tried the box traps for turtles yet! I certainly like eating them! However, I have not tried them in a soup yet!

      I have not had the chance to use them as much as I originally thought I would but it's always fun using something you created on your own. Thanks for the sub!

      Todd Wittenmyer it is not recommended by the FDA to eat any reptile especially snapping turtles. Their meat is plump full of learning disabilities and cancer.

      So is eating anything anymore. Drinking tap water is bad just breathing is bad. Rather eat a snapping turtle or a rabbit then most stuff from the store. And great video.

      Suddenly, the FDA is completely reliable...lol. I think PETA is in the comments section.

    Where are you in Ohio? How did the trap work after you fixed the door? I'm in Ohio also and was going to make some traps the same way you did

    • @outdoorarmstrong7024
      @outdoorarmstrong7024  8 років тому +1

      I'm in the Dayton area. I have changed the door so that it is now a ramp from the bottom up and a ramp from the top down. The two ramps begin at the entrance and meet in the middle of the trap. There is about a two inch opening where they meet and it expands with pressure. This removed all moving parts so that I don't have to worry about a door not opening correctly. I haven't done a video on it because I'm waiting for some catches. The problem is due to my current work schedule and some traveling, I haven't had a chance to put it in the water to see how it works. As soon as I get some results I'll post a video.

      Work at it, if you really want to kill turtles you wont feel good about it unless every minute of building the trap is focused on murderous turtle thought. Yeah I cant wait to catch a really big one, maybe like 80 to 100 years old and just cut his head off and eat him.

    a gov't permit to use a turtle trap? you've got to be kidding! what do the bureaucrats do all day? push turtle trap permits around on their desks to make sure the public is in compliance with nonsensical laws? Seriously, what do the bureaucrats do with turtle trap permits? LOL!

    FDA's stance on eating turtle. "Someone would have questionable wisdom if they eat this "delicacy"" turtle meat is trash meat.
