Great trap design. I came over from JoeandZachSurvival channel. I do Crawfish farming down in South La. & Fish heads should work great as Fish is mostly what we use. You can even freeze them as you clean your fish~collect them & use them frozen to bait up. Should work great. You have a great channel starting up. I would love to have bees & chickens 1 day so will check out your videos. I subbed ya. Best of luck.
To Miller17013: Excellent, Outstanding creative, enginutive practice design. You should consider applying your creativity to perpetuate your personal income. In off season time build the traps and offer them for sale, barter etc. Yes the Crayfish as Fresh Water Lobster, are indeed scavengers and your suggestion for Bait is right on; use what you have available. How big do they get in PA? Those Fresh Water Lobster are indeed a gem of a gift to mankind from the Creator.
Todd I can't remember the cost of the wire mesh but I believe it was less then ten bucks so for the cost I build those three or could of built two box and a cylinder. The only issues I have with my design is sometimes they don't land flat on the bottom the cylinder might not but a weight attached to the bottom help it sink fast n stay in place on the bottom or not.
Hi I've tried your way of catching Cray fish and they are good.thanks, one idea for bait I would say road kill IE; dead birds or rabbits that are too damaged to eat.good luck with that.
I have not seen anything about colony traps being illegal in pa when i was reading the laws trying to understand the legal sets for minks, used them once i use my 110s, as for the crayfish trap in part 3 i put into the description that the pa laws state only 2 openings an no larger then 1 inch dia. openings i modified my traps an will be sure to point it out when i set them. also they must be tagged. Thanks
Have you ever painted the traps with brown paint? This will keep the johnny sneakums out of your traps. I do this to ALL my traps including my muskrat traps.
Absolutely wonderful trap. I am just getting into the crayfish trapping at 56 years (young). Also, a video how the trap actually worked would be good. Thanks anyway!! ~Steve from Grand Rapids, MI
The best crawfish trap is what I made for me so far. We all know crawfish climbs up when they are trying to get a hold of food so what I made is Pyramid caught every single crawfish that climbed and they just drop down from a upside down open pyramid and cant ever get out at all. Its Honestly amazing!!!!
I'd line the bottom of the ramp, inside, and a little bit on the sides....with some slippery plastic sheet, so the little bastards can't crawl back up the wire, and out the ramp...overall, a great design
I like this trap allot going to make some tomorrow. Also I thought colony traps were illegal in pa for rats? If they arnt I know what I am using for muskrats this year!
what about a spring loaded door or maybe some kind of float on the top of the door that is enough to keep the door closed but will drop down when the weight of a crawdad is on it? just thinking
Hinge the sides of individual pieces and they would collapse a good deal when Not used? Hmmm? Fold up the bottom One Inch and use it to hinge the sides on? I am getting buzzed on these traps he made.
I have a curious question about these crawfish I’m from northern Ontario and I see these in the lakes where I live and was wondering if they was good to eat and are they like lobster or crabs?
if they are safe to consume give them a try they are more like a shrimp imo there is very little meat to them just behind the head but i like them, down south they are much bigger
Awesome idea!
Definitely leaning towards building this version!
Thanks
Great video!!! Not a lot of needless talk. Great design and thought put into the trap. Good job.
AWESOME !!! Thank for posting. Was going to make a cylindrical one prior to finding your post. Not now
Nice trap, thanx for the vid. and I also would like to see the trap in action for crawfish, when you get the chance.

Good job.
Just realized we got crawdads in this big puddle down here in Florida there's no bag or gear limits needed for them so I'm gonna try this
Great job

Nice work, I need to build one now :)
nicely done!

Would Love to see that design man;

Very smart idea; as I too have had them crawl back up and out.
Galvanised sheet metal is an option too. Paint it with a dark green or gray and it will not look inviting to climb that; about 4-5 inches high maybe?
I like this trap allot going to make some tomorrow. Also I thought colony traps were illegal in pa for rats? If they arnt I know what I am using for muskrats this year!
can you put a video of you using them and the end results
I was just going to put that

Excellent idea on spring-loaded door/ramp. Like that in a Live Animal trap would be very nice. Simple springs like that are available online.
Add a small latch like an L to hold it down; Bent in a loop on one end and a pressure curve on the other.
can it be one slot for the crayfish trap
Baits crayfishermen use: Carp, chicken liver, dog food, cat food, crayfish leftovers, potato, bread, raw bacon.
Where you trapping from

Clip in ramps and pop-out bait tube si it can collapse? Tie them all together with velcro strips I got online?
So; I am really liking his design of two ramps; add snaps like for fishing and add 2-4 OZ sinkers to hold it down and on the bottom.
Like my collapsable crab traps
