My ex wife was seen snooping around my house. I used the cubby snare method and used my wallet as bait. This worked wonderfully, this is a tried and true method.

Scrolling through the comment section and seeing a reply from Clay on nearly every single comment is so admirable. Not only are you such a skilled survivalist, but you're also such a genuinely good person. This is what I consider a true "influencer". Keep being a great person and I absolutely love the content. Very therapeutic for me

Funny how he doesn't show catching anything in these traps. (And yes i do know youtube would not allow some of that), but what evidence do we have that they work?

@@beavisroadhog9629 Seems like you haven't seen much from Clay, at least not enough. He, without a doubt, is a skilled survivalist. Not just basing it off this video alone, which is simply a tutorial...

I live in a small apartment because I work with youth in the city, but I used your video to build a trap out of a soup can, paint stir sticks, and an old wrist rocket band. Got a squirrel outside the window today, and grateful that it's fast and merciful. I've learned a ton from your videos, especially when I started out with archery a couple of years ago. Still practicing towards getting a deer this year or the next. Thank you Clay.

As someone who studied marketing and has found the over saturation of pushing materials and other merch annoying, I found the way you included your socials and book quite nice as it didnt interrupt the flow of the video (until I stopped to write this) and actually made me feel like checking out the book based on what you showed here. And thanks for the survival tips :))

I just finished watching season 8 and I never cry watching anything but I was fighting back tears when they told you that you won. I once fell into homelessness out in the San Jacinto mountains and had to survive with a broken down car way out there for just a couple of weeks out there and all I did was starve, people don't really understand how hard it is to survive the wilderness alone and starving.. everyone comments and criticizes but they've never had to skin their own food in their life. Anyways congrats man, you really earned your fame. You should do another season man, I'd put money on you

You are a very good teacher on survival. That being said you are very thoughtful of the animals so they do not suffer long. That is a admired trait for a trapper to live and work by. Due to the food shortage that is going to be at everyone's front door your traps will come in very handy to put meat on ones plate. Thanks I do appreciate your methods. I will be back to learn more from you.

  • @mikelundrigan2285

The best way to be successful is to set lots of snares…I normally set at least 50 up to 150! Some set hundreds of em! During warm weather you need to check em at least daily but when the colder weather comes you can check em less often. When the snow comes you need to have em flag taped or similar to help you find em as the terrain will look dramatically different now. You also need to adjust the sets as snow builds up or down! After setting your snares check em on the way out…you will sometimes have caught one in short order! Good snaring!

Great Demo mate. I have had the most success using the first method but by setting many traps. When in a survival situation saving your energy is paramount to making it in the wild. The first method requires less energy output and can effortlessly be set up countless times using not only wire but cat gut (nylon) boot laces, or even string made from flax.

I learned how to set up and place many traps and snares from Ragnar Benson/Larry Grupp's books. It's like anything else. Practice, practice, practice. It's damn frustrating at times. Snares seem to be making a comeback among people learning bushcraft and survival. One I have mastered is the Rock Weir trap for fish. Keep in mind that in a survival situation you will most likely expend more energy building and setting traps than you will get from the game. I've been experimenting for the last 30 years, especially with triggers. Great vid here, you got a sub

I was in 4th grade when I read "My Side Of The Mountain" (the first time)...and I became obsessed pretty much with all things survival. Not because I was afraid of catastrophes or anything though. Simply because I loved history and wished I'd been born before the west had been tamed. It did evolve of course. Either way, I'm babbling. I'd have given ANYTHING for videos like this in my youth! Trying to figure out traps and snares and knots and such from usually pisspoor diagrams was torture to this kid! 🤣 And so time consuming that if I'd NEEDED to survive on the knowledge then...I'd have starved to death. Lucky me.
    - Excellent Video - Thank you.

I do not give respect lightly, rarely does someone gain my attention. You Sir, earned both. I spent countless hours tracking and learning to set snares as well as learning to find water in places where many think there is none, all under the watchful eye of my Grandfather. His teaching of hiding in plain sight saved my life. To understand nature you must become one with nature, you have accomplished much. When dealing with nature remember to look and listen with your Heart and not with your eyes or ears.

Awesome. Seems like you could mix and match a few methods depending on your materials, like swapping out the cantilever or sapling for the paracord torsion arm to make a spring trap that'll raise the animal into the air. Or use a cantilever for the baited cubby trap.

Hey Clay, we have a decent amount of snowshoe hare on our acreage. I tried trapping some with my kids last year and I have tried other years as well and never been successful at just planting snares on their pathways. Decided to try the windless snare. Used some vegetables as bait. Had to figure a few work arounds for setting it in the deep snow. I didn't get a picture as it was getting dark just as I finished getting it set and closed in. I will post a pic later on. Thanks for the sweet vids.

Steve Watts would've loved that last one. A windlass with a modified Paiute trigger, what's not to love?
I spent most of my youth learning & practicing survival and wilderness living, and I'm betting today's kids aren't having to struggle near as much since good information is so readily available.
I'm impressed. Very well done. You earned a subscriber.

awesome video brother, a suggestion if i may, this video is great for people that have knowledge on how those traps work, i would suggest breaking it down a little, simplifying it more for people barely getting into trapping specially kids, for example the types of knots that you made and how to tie them, again great video thank you.
