I grew up in Russia (I no longer live there). However, I still vividly remember funeral processions going down the street from deceased persons' homes carrying open caskets and being accompanied by small funeral bands. As a child I used to hide as soon as I heard the funeral music. People in procession were dressed in black and were carrying red flowers. This tradition slowly declined over time.
Later, when my grandma passed away at the hospital her body would not be released without bribery. Spaces at new cemeteries were so limited that coffeens were almost touching each other. The old cemeteries allowed more space until they became overcrowded.
Thank you for creating this video!

Love the idea of this series! I found your channel based on last month's video on Caitlyn Doughty. I am a new, loyal fan!

I knew it was historically disorganised, but I didn't realise things were this bad.

This is a well-done video, though I wish you had also touched upon the practices of Russian Muslims, especially during the Soviet period and since the conflict with Chechnya started. Russia has a rather high percentage of Muslims (over 10% at this point), but Islam has very strict and quick funeral practices.

The enemy isn't human. There will be time to mourn once victory is achieved. Until then, Slava Ukraine
