ABOUT ME:
My name is Shelly and I’m a 44-year-old web geek that jumped off the deep end into the makeup and beauty world. I’ve got dry skin, fine lines, and sun spots that I desperately wish to get rid of or cover up! Cameo appearances by my rescue cats Daffy, Polly, Ziva, and Merlin.
I purchased all products used in this video. All opinions are honest and my own. Some links are affiliate links and may earn me commission at no cost to you. I appreciate your support of my channel!

Love your reviews. People say that women are age can’t be happy with any foundation. Blah. Blah. The truth is that OUR kind of skin is not like the twenty somethings doing these reviews. My favorite that works for me is the Maybelline 24 hr. It covers everything (pores, lines, spider veins, dark spots, etc), and stays all day. We are all different, but mature skin is a WHOLE NEW WORLD! I appreciate everything you do for us viewers ! And let me add- I haven’t tried as many as you, but have tried so many drug store and high end foundations and Maybelline 24 hr is the only one (so far) that is my holy grail.
Elle Leary just reviewed this foundation. She added a drop of oil and it looked really nice. This may be the only way dry skin gals can wear this.
I think I'll have to try that, but even when I put down a layer of argon oil before applying this foundation, it still looked horrible. I'm not sure that mixing the oil with the foundation will solve the problem....but since I already spent $15 to buy this stuff, it's worth a try.
Linda Johnson no im tried it and it’s terrible dries down too fast
Elle said that putting oil into it, did not work, I think. I'm also having trouble with ii & thinking of returning, which would be my first time **ever returning makeup. I'll try the oil trick first though.
Ha! I NEVER BOUGHT THIS!! Got it mixed up with ProGlow, I guess🌝
Absolutely fantastic review. Thank you!
Always coming thru with the swatches!! I never know what foundation shade to get so I look up your v video with says foundation and I can see. Thanks for always getting more than 1 shade. 😉
So glad you reviewed it was looking into it with my dry skin... Always so knowledgeable love your reviews ❤
Thanks, Janie! From the name I was hopeful. Sadly, nope.
Woohoo been waiting on this one!!! I love to see your opinions! Love seeing the kitties too!
Ziva says hi! 😸😸😸
Love when you show us your eye looks so yes please. You have great content, you make me laugh, and I appreciate your honesty. 😻
Thanks, Kathleen! Will do! :-D
Thank you for doing the research for all of our benefit! Your eye look is superb
Thanks, Darrele!
You are always coming through with the things I want to see most!
I wish I could say I'm psychic, but totally not 😂
Yes, please do post this eye look, it's beautiful!
Thanks, Kathryn! I will edit it and get it out!
That eye look! Please do a tutorial for us, it’s so pretty! And I love your jumper!
Thanks, Louise! I'll get the eye look posted and the jumper is LuLaRoe!
Thank you so much for these reviews! I'm glad to follow a youtuber than I can trust and that shows close-ups and speaks the truth in how these products perform! It saves so many of us time and money. You deserve so many more subscribers! ♥
Without the close-ups it's practically impossible to see what's going on... studio lights can make almost anything look decent at a conversational distance. Even this one looks a lot nicer on camera at a distance than in person. Close-ups don't lie 😂
So glad that I saw your review! I was on the fence. Since I have very dry skin, I can only handle very moisturizing/dewy foundation right now without getting that tight, itchy feeling. 😫 would love to see you review the new L’Oréal concealer!
I need to grab that concealer! I'm curious about it, too!
Great review. I just notice with this foundation that it looks better and better as the day wears on and my skin gets oilier. I have combination skin. I also wear a ton of moisturizer before I put these type of matte foundations on my face and they look great and control any oil that may appear. Thanks for posting.
Im with you on this one. I HATE this foundation for dry skin. I admire your dedication, i washed it off immediately when i tried it.
.... i love seeing the kitties in the background. Mine sit on my makeup stand too. So cute!
The cats are always in charge around here 😸😸😸
Jess Triplett it made my skin feel so gross I could not wait to get home to take it off.
what foundation would u recommend for dry skin? 😅
Yes, I would like to see you do this eye look. It’s beautiful and your eyes look gorgeous!
Thanks, Andrea!!
I finally tried this foundation and really liked it. I have normal to dry skin, with redness in the upper cheeks. It covered all my redness and I did use facial oil prior to using.
Yes show us the eye look please!!! Thanks for reviewing this!
Will do!! Thanks, Jamie!
Hi Shelly, love your eye make up and lip colour 😍
Thank you💜 I appreciate your reviews 💖 I'd love to see a look with that dupe Palette 💜💚💟💙💛
Thanks, Kelly! I will definitely post this look!
You look suuuuper pretty wearing those colors on your makeup. Loved the eye look.
Thanks, Teresa! I need more maroon in my closet!
Yes... eye look tutorial please 💕
Yes, please share this eye shadow look. It looks really nice for your skin tone. Bummer about the foundation, when you first described it I thought I might like this. Dry skin gal here, thanks to you I can pass on this. Take care Shelly💜
Thanks, Cheryl!
I used this during spring and I agree with all said, went over to Anastasias new foundation and I liked it but I think Nyx born to glow is my new favorite.
Found ur channel today, new subbie
Welcome!! I'm loving the Nyx Born to Glow too! Here's my foundation list if you haven't seen it yet - geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/
Thanks for the review, and yes please on the eyeshadow tutorial.
Will do! Thanks, Cathy!
I just bought this foundation. I am 45 with really dry skin. It was really bad on me. I had the same problems you had. It brought out all of my fine lines around my mouth and looked really cakey in areas. It did look good on my forehead and from a distance. I tried it it with Cover FX gripping primer, still gross. So sad, wanted to really love it. I’m going to go buy the new Dior foundation.
This foundation is a dream and super well recommended for those with oily skin mostly (often compared to estee lauder double wear) apparently if you don’t have the skin type for a foundation, you can still wear it with proper skin care and a primer that would make your skin closer to what the product was designed for but, and this is my personal opinion only, I don’t know why anyone would put themselves through the trouble when there are so many options for so many skin types and pockets on the market. ❤
I have dry mature skin and I add a drop of oil and mix, it looks great that way!
I am a new Subbie. I found your channel by looking for a review of this foundation for mature dry skin. Very good and thorough review. Thank you , saved me some money. BTW where did you purchase your earrings , they're adorable?
Thanks, Charlene! Welcome! I got these earrings on Amazon, $15.99 - amzn.to/2TgrRRa and if you haven't seen my foundation spreadsheet yet, I've got all of the foundations I've reviewed ranked and sorted in a searchable spreadsheet on my web site. If you scroll down to the table, you can search in the box at the top right - searching "hydrating" will bring up all of the foundations I thought were hydrating on me. Searching "not drying" will bring up the ones that weren't necessarily hydrating but also didn't dry my skin out. Lots of other things you can search - I put some examples on the page, and you can search for brands too. geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/
Hard pass! Not my cup of tea. So glad you reviewed this one.
Thanks, girlie🍃🌸.
By the name I thought I'd like it more. It doesn't look bad on camera but 99% of my life is lived off-camera 😂
Hi Shelly!! This really goes to show how much skin type affects foundation. I am 53 with a decent amount of fine lines, but quite oily skin still. I really like how this foundation looks and wears on me , and soon after I put it on it is definitely luminous, lol.
Hope you have a great weekend 😘
I've started watching some others' reviews (I wait until after I've done mine to see what other people think) and it seems to be working well for combo/oily! I'm glad it's working for you!! Happy weekend, Linda!
Hi, Shelly! I’d hoped this one was a winner. Oh well. I ❤️ the lipstick color. I wish one day you’d do a video of favorite 90’s-ish colored lipsticks. Literally the only lipstick colors I like. ☺️
hehehe I wore red-browns for like 10 years straight 😂they're still my favorite way to do a vampy lip. I need to do some lipstick videos. I have so many.
Amberger Helper I agree. That would be great.
Great video 💜💚💟💙💛
I don't know if my phone just really sucks or if your camera is just really good, but your skin looked great to me! I thought you looked very pretty today and wow that highlight is POPPIN girl! Wet n Wild-how do they do that?! Have a great weekend! I thought of a foundation suggestion and have completely blanked it 🤷🏻♀️
Btw your sweater is wicked
This one looked good on camera at a distance (sometimes I think I'm being too hard on them until I insert the close up and then I'm like GAH nope) 😂The WnW highlight rivals the Natasha Denona Super Glow in my level of love. It's a tiny bit more of a glitter/sparkle than the ND but doggone it's pretty. One of my students came up to my after class with a question the other day and said, "I don't know if it's the fluorescent lights or what but your highlight is always spot on, even from the back of the room!" and I'd been wearing the WnW all week. I had to laugh (and then I strutted a bit back to my office) 😂😂😂and this is one of my favorite sweaters! I got 3 different ones that I love - they're so soft. They're Popsugar from Kohl's!
Yes please, I'd love to see a video about the Unisex palette from Ccolor cosmetics , the dope palette and and any other products of theirs you might have. Also , I'd really like to hear your opinion of the new ELF 16hr camo concealer and their lasting finish finish foundation - since they have just released new lighter shades. I'm curious about the new wet n wild stick foundation, BB cream and their new blush and bronzer shades. I could probably list twenty more things but I'll stop there. Lol. 😉 It's so refreshing to hear the opinion of someone in my age group with similar skin issues. I'm very excited to watch your channel grow. 😊😻
I just grabbed that new WnW stick and I need to get the new Elf shades! I'm overdue for a drugstore haul!
And also yes please post the eye look!!
Will do! Thanks, Kayla!
Ditto. I have dry skin and when I first applied with a brush it looked awesome. As the day went on it started to look like I applied a powder foundation. Super powdery. Then it started to lift where I applied my bronzer and made it look muddy and like my cheeks were dirty. I checked it an hour after that and it had lifted in places and left patches on my skin. I really wanted to love it and thought I was the oddball because everyone else loved it. It also made me itch as well.
I look at how gorgeous it wears on some people and get a tiny bit jealous! lol :-D I tried this one a few times and it's a complete no-go for me.
💯% agree. Tried this 3 days in a row. A week later, my skin is still recovering from dry scaling. Drop of oil trick made no difference. Thank you, next.
Yep exactly.
Love your hair color. ❤️
Thanks, Lexxi! I wish I could keep or repeat any color 😂I've currently got a brown wash-out glaze over permanent bright red dye, so every time I wash my hair it looks different!
I recently bought the new Laura mercier radiant foundation and I love it. I’m 48 with combo skin. I moisturise well and only apply one thin layer and it’s gorgeous! It has a slight radiance and lasts well throughout the day. Maybe it’s one you might like to try.
Mine just arrived! It will be one of the next ones I try (it sounds so promising!!)
Your skin is so beautiful! It looks all glowy with just moisturizer on. So jealous! ;)
Thanks! Is your user name for a tripod kitty? I've got one named Daffy :)
@@goow tbh it's not about a specific one but about all of them because tripod kitties are so damn inspirational, they dont let one less leg get them down (ha!) but instead live their lives like any other cat. I just need that reminder for myself sometimes.
I found the perfume overwhelming and the formula made my skin burn and itch. Took it right back to Ulta. Too bad because 405 was a great shade match for me!
EEe almost purchased this last night. The fresh, breathable part had my attention. Looks like everything that doesn't work for my skin. Thnx! Love the eye. & of course the lip. What a bad influence you are. ;)
The name had me really excited! My skin would say the name is not accurate. :-/ At least the eyeshadow palette is inexpensive! 😂😂😂for once!
Eye look, YES! I have super oily skin, so this might work for me...
It seems to be working well for the combo/oily crowd! I hope it works for you, Laurel!
Hi!
Just found your channel. Thanks for this review. Now I know not to waste my $ on this foundation.
Welcome, Vanessa! This one definitely didn't work for me. :-/
My skin flakes with this product I use artistry and I love it I would never try to change again I did try to change artistry 2 times and regret it
Girl,, there goes your face lmao. No hiding how u feel about these foundations lol. I appreciate that you are always 💯 honest about these product reviews. On the flip side your eye look is fabulous!!! Please do a video on the eye look. Great video my friend
😂😂😂sometimes I feel like my expressions are a total spoiler - that's why I stopped filming the full-face intros for foundations. When I didn't like them it was so hard to act neutral!!!
@@goow I understand what you mean. It's hard to hide it when u dislike something lol I know for me that's the case for sure
Just watched Elle Leary's review on this foundation. She has normal/dry and more dry in the winter skin and added a few drops of a facial oil to this in order to make it more hydrating. Maybe try that if you wear this again?
Yep that will be one of my hopeful strategies on the re-try! Thanks, Katie!
I saw that video as well. Of course if I HAVE to add oil to make it bearable, I'm not going to buy it, but if you need a way to use what you already bought...
Even oil couldn’t help this for me, was truly the worst foundation I’ve tried in a while
A drop of argan oil worked for me. I bought this as a summer foundation and found it too drying, but the oil really helped. I won’t buy this foundation again, but at least the bottle I have won’t go to waste. Sigh, the search continues 😔.
I'm a new subscriber and I'm loving your videos. :) Please could you tell me how you get your lovely hair colour and how your eyebrows match the colour so well. Thanks pretty lady! X
Welcome, JPM! My hair is probably impossible to reproduce :-D It was originally the L'Oreal HiColor Intense Red permanent hair color (the one you can get at Sally Beauty), and then I started having the salon do a brown glaze over it. So as the glaze washes out, the red undertone is still there. This was filmed at the very end of 10 weeks after the glaze, so the brown is mostly washed out. (I just had it done again). Eyebrows are luck because they're my natural color 😂I'm too scared to try any sort of coloring near my eyes!
@@goow Hi Shelly. Thank you so much! :D I watched your red hair colouring video and eyebrow tutorial after this one. Should've done that first. ;D The red looks amazing on you, and thanks to your eyebrow video, I went out and bought the Kat Von D No75 brush and powder, and I was not disappointed. :) Keep up the good work!
Hey Shelly! I see that your skin is looking better now that you are back to using your regular skin care. This foundation looks like it would just look cakey on me, I find that the older I get, the more I enjoy foundations that look more natural.
I would love to see the eye look you are wearing. Also, do you ever mix foundations in order to make them work?
Hi Rosalba! Oy finally - those 2 zits would just not quit! The other side of my chin isn't even a pimple.... it's a freakin' whisker that grows as an ingrown hair sometimes, which makes it get all irritated. Aging is great!! :-D lol I'm usually too impatient to mix foundations. There are so many that work without mixing that I just reach for those instead.
@@goow Well... I also have a whisker. Dammit. Aging is kicking our butts. LOL
Geek Out of Water I was just re-watching this review to remind myself why I Soo don't need to buy this despite the hype 😜 and saw this comment. I know it's completely random, but have been dealing with a major ingrown hair issue that has apparently been an ongoing issue that I didn't pay close enough attention to - I am a Georgia girl, displaced in the brutal Pacific Northwest and have lived in beanie hat to stay warm the last 2 winter's and as a result have numerous, layered upon crazy wacky curly layer of ingrown/embedded hairs in my temple/eyebrow area and nothing has worked to help remove the layers of skin to expose and heal them, so it's forever more and inflamed unsightly area on my face that is driving me crazy!! Found a product at Target by Bliss, The Bump Attendant (great ingredients for the most part-not using on entire face though and wouldn't bc it's drying, but definitely for this specific type of problem area) It was Fate, sitting there lonely on a clearance end cap...and OMG!! It actually works! It is gentle enough to use twice a day for my extreme situation and it is absolutely resolving this crazy ingrown hair issue- it will be a staple in my skincare for the rest of forever and I think anyone who has a tendency for Ingrowns would benefit from it. Out of all of the googling and searching for remedies, it was never shown as an option but it's awesome and I think it would help any ingrown - whether recurring or new! Just wanted to share bc I know how aggravating and frustrating it can be to work so hard to have a clear complexion and have one of these spots lingering around they are truly so hard to get rid of.
I think the pro glow has as the alcohol I have that Foundation if you see the ingredient with alcohol on top or at least the third ingredient be where it will dry up your skin
I tried this foundation today and was not impressed. But, after watching Elle Leary’s video, I decided to to try it again tomorrow, using some oil with it. Love your eye look!
Thanks, Karen! I'm going to try it with oil too, to see if I can get it to work. Let me know how it goes for you!
Hi Shelly! I tried the foundation again today, with 2 drops of Tatcha oil and I love it. It made all the difference for me. I’m 61 years old and have dry skin. I’ve had the foundation on for 8 hours and it looks good. 👍🏻
Thank you Shelly, I'm glad you reviewed this one, I would have probably tried it . I have dry skin , ( & in my case a lot of patches, pores & lines to settle into to ) So far ( lately anyway) L'Oréal foundation for me wears off quickly & does not have good coverage . I hadn't tried this particular one though(& wont😉)
The name made it sound so promising!
On my dry skin, I love combining the fresh wear shade 400 pearl with the pro glow 201 (which is too dark) and the combination is beautiful on me and lasts all day. Maybe that will work for you?
I'll have to try that combo! Thanks, Carla!
Hi Shelly! I don't know if this is the proper way to request a foundation review for the future, but if it suits you I would love to see a review of Haley foundation (target exclusive) and the upcoming bare minerals complexion rescue foundation stick (available now at qvc and in stores in february?)
Love you're in depth and honest reviews!
It sure is, Adrianne! I haven't heard of the Haley (I love trying new things!) and I'll add the BM stick to my list! Maybe I'll do a Target run and see if my store has the Haley today :)
@@goow If your Target is anything like either of our local locations, they will be hidden on a beauty isle endcap. So of you can't find it in the aisles, check endcap :)
*edit* I just discovered Haleys offers free samples of their original foundation at haleysbeauty.com/collections/samples if you can't find it at target!
would love to see the eye tutorial cause I bought that same exact palette
I will get it edited and post it this coming week! It's a fun palette - I love the color combos.
Try using a very hydrating moisturizer first, then add a drop or 2 of oil to it. I love it like that! I'm 41 with very dry skin. I can't wear it without oil added.
I will be trying it with oil next! Thanks, Rebecca!
It might be helpful if when you swatched the shades you let us know what your closest shade match is for comparison
So glad I found someone with similar experience to me, all these other “dry skin” youtubers had me thinking this could work for me but it was a freaking disaster. My skin was looking nice and dewy after my skincare, applied this and it created instant flakes and texture in areas I’m not normally even that dry. I will only trust your foundation reviews going forward. Tried this with oil, no improvement. Hate it so much! And can we talk about the alcohol smell?! Sure enough denatured alcohol is high up there on the ingredients list, 😑.
Yep this is one I could not get to work and will never try again!
I saw Pacifica just came out with a make-up line, including a foundation. I do like some of their products, so I’d be curious about your thoughts!
I picked up a bunch of their stuff at Target to review and now the Pacifica shelf is almost empty at Target....? Not sure if they're not going to carry it anymore or what - but I definitely need to get around to filming the stuff I bought!
Geek Out of Water Sweet! Well, not sweet that the Target shelf is empty, but I can get Pacifica at Ulta too, so no biggie. Looking forward to your review!
I picked this foundation up at Walgreens today and then put it back down b4 I checked out. I thought I might go back and buy it later but not after watching this review. U and i are the same age, same dry skin, same shade even so if it doesn't work for you its probably not gonna work 4 me lol. Thanks 4 the review.
LOL we need to swap holy grail advice because I still haven't found the foundation that will make me stop searching! 😂
@@goow the newest Loreal stick foundation is really good. Havevu tried it
Have you had a chance to try the new Maybelline bronzers? I'm an NC10 (admittedly, very yellow) and I purchased that new bronzer in the lightest shade, 100, and it is SO beautiful. I know you love that Loreal bronzer (like I do!), but if you're looking for a truly, truly matte bronzer, it's incredibly nice and blendable.
I haven't found them yet and I need to!!
Also, I'm so glad I didn't buy this earlier today. I've been tempted, but I've adamantly resisted, and I am so glad for this. I'm a Tretinoin user and I think this would look dreadful on me.
I have a feeling combo/oily would have much better luck with this one.
I was very curious about how this foundation would perform on you after I tested some of it at the drugstore. To me it had a very noticeable fragrance and the matte finish looked so dry on my hand.
I tested the No 7 foundation drops twice this week, the first time mixing them with a moisturizer and the second time I mixed it with a silicone based primer. I liked the finish it has, very smooth and almost airbrushed in appearance. I preferred the look/feel when mixed with the moisturizer but the test wear with primer lasted a bit longer. Both applications though applied better using a brush as my sponge just absorbed almost all of the makeup. I used my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and it worked very well with this foundation. As for what you decide to mix it with, it's all a matter of preference. I typically don't use primers at all but I do like the finish with foundations that have a silicone base. I will say that these drops are fun to play with! They are so incredibly pigmented that you really only need 1, 2 or 3 drops of them. If the coverage is too thin, use less of the product you're mixing them with. I'm also going to experiment by mixing them with a serum to see what kind of finish I get. If you decide to get the drops, just remember to shake the bottle really well before using. :)
I picked up the No 7 L&L serum foundation at Target tonight :) I almost grabbed those drops but didn't. I might have to go back for them!
Yes...totally get them! I tried the drops again today with a different primer, Smashbox Photo Finish Smooth & Blur Primer. The application was so smooth with the most even coverage so far. Yesterday I used Ulta's brand of silicone primer which was okay but too matte for my liking. I also tried mixing an oil-based serum into the mix but it caused the foundation drops to break down immediately.
Hi Shelly! I am super glad you saved me a few bucks on this one. Now on to my real dilemma, using your spread sheet I found my holy grail, philosophy's Hope in a Jar. Love it for my moderate to bone dry, sensitive skin. I can't find it!!! Only a few places have the deeper shades left. Are they repackaging or discontinuing it? Help!!! Thanks and have an awesome weekend 😊
Gah nooooooo! It's not even on Philosophy's site anymore!! That usually means discontinued 😭😭😭
Well shoot! I was hoping it was just being repackaged. But, on the bright side, I haven't been to Ulta since before the holidays 🛍🛍 And I have the Master List to start researching a replacement. Thanks so much for that, the info there is invaluable!!
Hey i was planning on buying that but won't now. Can you recommend a drugstore foundation with medium coverage but looks natural on skin?
And also do you like tarte shape tape concealer?
Hi Niharika! I like the coverage of Shape Tape but it's a little bit drying on my under eyes. So I don't wear it much. I prefer the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away concealer. For drugstore foundations, check out either the CYO LifeProof (Walgreens), or Revlon PhotoReady Candid, or Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick. I love them all for a natural finish and medium coverage.
@@goow Thank you so much :)
It did the same for my 48 yr old dry skin...just awful! Thanks for confirming
Bummer :( it seems like it's working for the combo/oily crowd. I'm going to try mixing it with oil but I really prefer products that just work right out of the bottle.
Well poo I had high hopes for this one. 🍀🦉🍀🦉🍀
Me too!! The name was so promising!
I would love to see you review the new hourglass vanish foundation when it releases. I think it releases jan 25th. Something like that. But id love to know your thoughts on this.
Yes! It's on my wish list!!
Also wanted to tell you I started using the MD Complete dark spot corrector at Dr Dray’s recommendation, I mostly want to fade a bright red spot my sensitive af skin STILL has from the one pimple I had like 5 years ago (not even exaggerating)😂
I’ve been using it once a day for only 3 days and I’m already seeing results. I think you said you’ve already faded your hyperpigmentation, but if you’re looking for something in the future, I highly recommend. I’ve had no sensitivity or anything from it. It’s a pretty kick ass product!
I picked up that one too from a recent Dr Dray video and it totally started helping immediately! I had a weird patch of spots that popped up over the summer along my chin, and it has almost completely gotten rid of that.
Geek Out of Water I have never tried hydroquinone before, I’m amazed at the results! I’ve heard it’s temporary and that the spots might come back after you stop using it. Have you noticed that at all?
I had the same experience on my mature dry skin. I will try adding the oil next try. If that doesn’t fix the issues, I will toss it!
I ended up passing it along to my friends :-/
I guess that is because you're using retinol. That happened to me too.
Hey Shelly. I was also using lots retinols and Good Genes, etc and suddenly I couldn't wear any foundation without it looking flakey, dry and disgusting so I laid off all that stuff for a while and it has made a huge difference. My skin looks so much better. Being dry already, plus winter, and then retinols and AHAs/BHAs on top, can turn you into a snake. If you use too many drying products it may make it impossible to fairly judge any foundation. It sounds like you might be going through the same thing. For me, in the winter, I will be cutting down on all that and maybe using it just a couple times a week.
Yep I've been rearranging the days I do different skin care things and I cleared up the peeling I was having. (It's been about a week now since I filmed this). Fingers crossed it'll stay this way!
Geek Out of Water used in whatever way your skin likes best, glycolics and retinols can help flaking... I guess because I use relatively gentle acids and retinols, my flaking issues have been cleared up instead of worsened! Have you uploaded a skin routine video lately? Curious what your skincare regime is these days!
Geek Out of Water also, do you have any recommendations for a cruelty-free glycolic cleanser? I’ve been working through a peter Thomas Roth glycolic I’ve had forEVER and I’m starting to run low (finally). I like using glycolics best in wash form, so I’m in the market
I'll stick with The Pro Glow foundation..... Maybe I'll try this in the summer
Yep Pro Glow is definitely a reliable one.
Thats weird ive got sun spots that have popped up this past year on the same side of my face under my eye on the top of my cheek. What do you use for that? I have been using vit c serum and ren night mask. I put conceler there to try and mask it.
Yep I'd do what you're doing. The brutal thing about sun damage is usually when it pops up, what we're seeing on the surface was actually caused a decade or more ago. So even when I think I've got a sun spot beat, another one will pop up. I started wearing sunscreen daily when I was in my mid-30s so I still probably have a handful more of years of old sun damage surfacing :(
@@goow Do I need to wear sunscreen all year? Even now in winter??
I have dehydrated skin and I love this foundation. It might be down to skin prep or primer? 🤔 I'm 42 so it can't be age...
I'm going to try it a couple more times and see if I can get it to work!
@@goow btw I love the kitty at the back 😍😍😍
I'm very curious about the new hourglass...I'm still trying to find that foundation that looks good on all of my smile wrinkles and these sallow patches that have shown up on my cheeks. It sucks getting older...lol. I've found that what looks good before i go to work...doesn't look that good when i get home so I'm on the hunt for that foundation that lasts....you help me mark the one's off that I shouldn't try and I, and my budget, love you for that! :)
I hear you on the getting older!! The one spot on my chin that isn't a blemish is a freaking ingrown WHISKER! I have a whisker like a witch! Popped up right around when I turned 40 😂😭
Hahahahaha me too! Mine is under my chin. My husband was nice enough to point it out to me. I pluck that bad boy whenever I feel it.
Yep me too!!
Hey Shelly do you have a Torrid where you live? I think you’d really like their clothes super cute stuff it’s so dangerous for me to even just go on their websites I spend way too much!!
I order from them online! I don't have one in my mall now but I used to :)
I thought it was going to be a D-. I'm kind of bummed, because I had high hopes for it, but once again you have saved me and my pocketbook. Are you going to review the new Hourglass liquid when it comes out? I trust you implicitly.
Yes I've got the Hourglass on my wish list! I have had some good luck with them.
Please edit and upload the eye look!!!
I have been debating picking this up since loreal products tend to be very kind to me (eek!!! The lumi bronze it is my absolute fav I never see it on yt) but I might have to pass on this because my dry skin will be angry if it dries like a mask!!
My favorite bronzer! I'm almost through my first one and I will definitely be replacing it!
I actually like it better than the Butter Bronzer!
Katie LMT soooo much better. I’ve got a large dent in my lumi and I’ll repurchase too. My butter bronzer I side eye almost daily haha. NO one talks about the lumi bronzer.
Would you do some wet and wild reviews as we have it now in boots in the uk x
Hey Heidi! Yep I have the cushion and the Photo Focus on my channel - and I just bought the new stick foundation to try!
I had same issues
:( It's a bummer for sure.
If you are going to wear powder foundation I suggest you start out with MAC's Studio Fix ,. It's very nice!!⚘This review is almost year old. Time has gone so fast🌠
The older I get, the less I can use drug store foundations. Not exactly sure. I do have dry skin also but even higher end drug store just looks a mess! Thank you for the video!
I find that my skin is pickier the older I get, definitely! And for whatever reason I have better luck with higher end versus drugstore. Of my top 20 rated foundations, 15 or so are high end and 5 drugstore. That seems to be about the average rate for me - for every 1 drugstore foundation that works well on me I've got 3 high end ones that work as well or better.
Yes. Please do a makeup look with the eye palette dupe. Sorry the foundation didn't work. There's always another waiting in the wings!
Always more foundations to try!! :-D
@@goow I just got a new one that Nikki Joy recommended. Inexpensive, but takes a few weeks to receive. Focallure? Have you done that one yet?? I'll keep you updated. Will try it today.
Have you tried Kosas yet? (You have to apply it with your fingers, but it will work with flaky skin.)
Not yet! It's on my list to try! :-D
Prob need a better moisturizer underneath it...this foundation is amazing...
I tried this foundation and didn't like it. First, I couldn't get past the floral scent, and it did not sit nicely on my face. I would love to see you try the CoverGirl active foundation and the CoverGirl full spectrum foundation.
I just saw the new Active in CVS but they were out of the light shades - and now I must find it!
@@goow As a fair skinned redhead, I have that same problem. It would be nice if all cosmetics companies made a wide color range in at least foundations and concealers to cover the fairest skin to the darkest skin.
I have combo skin so I am torn about trying this one. Maybe if I can find it on sale.
It seems like combo is doing OK with it (now that I've started watching some of the reviews out there). Let me know how it goes!
I'd love to see the eye video
Will do! Thanks!
I actually tried that foundation today for the first time and let me tell you it was a disaster! I really had high hopes since I saw a lot of positive reviews online, but when I put it on my face it itched so bad and it felt so heavy and drying I had to take it off, and I don’t even have dry skin! Weird... but the worst part was after I took it off my face was so red like I had a bad sun burn!! 😳😳 good thing it when away after a few minutes. I do have sensitive skin tho so that could be it but I’ve never had a reaction like that with any other foundation! Anyway it’s safe to say I’m returning it. Also this contains fragrance and alcohol so not good for skin, maybe that’s what caused my reaction or maybe some other ingredient who knows...
I started using cosdna.com and the Environment Working Group's website to figure out what ingredients would be good for my sensitive skin and it's been an amazing resource to help me figure out what will work on my skin and what won't. The lower the number ranking, the better, just FYI.
Yikes that is definitely a return!
Sandy it's may be the SPF in the foundation your reacting to. I wear my sunscreen separate from foundation. Every time I try one especially with an SPF of 25 I have the same reaction.
Beth Schumacher thanks for the info! I actually thought it could be that as well! I tend to stay away from foundations that have SPF but for some reason I decide to try this one since it was so hyped up lol
I still like the video the finished look still looks good
Thanks, Jenny!
@ 9:12 is exactly how I feel everyday at work!
😂😂😂words. meh.
Bummer about that foundation, but yes please on showing us the video of the eye look!
I will definitely edit and post it this coming week!
I feel like the people I've seen who have loved this have been in the 30 and below crowd. I don't know, it just doesn't speak to me, I really, really want to see what Jeffree is putting out. I can make it with my pro glow and conceal and define until then.
@@liafaile1865 I love a good full coverage foundation because I'm still convinced that I will eventually cover my freckles. I feel like if anyone can do a very white, full coverage but still glowy foundation it's going to be Jeffree Star. I'm watching all these Morphe reviews and they're like it's too full coverage, those words don't go together in my universe, to me that is the point of foundation.
Amy Tyler What's your favourite? I love a good full coverage when it's appropriate. And omg *YES Shelly, you must review Jeffree Stars foundation and concealer!*
LOL Amy I am also still convinced that I will eventually cover my freckles! They're not bad really but I was teased mercilessly as a kid over them and I just can't stand them. Thus my equal vengeance against sun spots.
Thanks for saving me $15! You always look pretty darn good, but I definitely wouldn't describe this foundation's effect on your skin as "fresh."
😂😂If fresh means not fresh, they nailed it!
Wow! That's disappointing for us kinds of peoples!
BTW, I bought a Natasha Denona mini blush and glow (which will last me forever)! I love it! It's so gorgeous even on my skin tone which is darker than yours! I'm not too big into glow-y blushes, this one is too good not to use! Gorrrrrgggggeous! Have a lovely weekend!
I was totally looking at her blushes! I'm applying the logic that if I love her highlighter so much, maybe she's really good at face powders. Totally reasonable assumption, yeah? 😂😂😂
@@goow
Yes ma'am! Totally reasonable! The mini, if you only wish to try, is only $19. That's be great for travel and you'd have another highlighter! Smart, considered purchase, imo!
I like how you think!!! :-D
Well that was kinda unfortunate, coz I was kinda curious about this one. A little dryer/matte than I tend to like for myself, and I don't think it'd be all that flattering on my skin - and I've got a few years on you.
It's not at all what I expected from the name. :-/
Ha! That's the foundation I'm wearing right now :)
Jennifer Gaines Do you like it?
Yes do tell! :-D
I've got it on today too!
I love this foundation 💜 I'm 46 with normal/dry skin. Be sure to moisturize well and it looks amazing, very natural on my ageing skin!
@@sweetox_9690 So far, I don't. I'm going to give it a few more tries with different primers. It breaks down and gives me polka dot face.
I'm 53, normal to dry dehydrated skin.
That Pat McGrath lippie is beautiful on you.
Thanks, Bibby!
